KHSFYITESFJKHKSD ok i DO understand the point being made and how the immutability of comics canon events seems to depend largely on how much a reader liked a given plot more than anything else, but Jason is like the WORST example you could use. Yes! The fans did literally kill him it was put to PUBLIC VOTE! Writing always involves the creation of conflict but Jim Starlin did NOT make that call unilaterally the crowbar IS in the reader's hand (or at least the voter's). Especially as modern comics increasingly lean on the 4th wall and include metatext as a plot point, YES there is ABSOLUTELY a reading where the writer and audience are as much "characters" as the city of Gotham itself even if we never show on-panel.

idk if it’s just me but i feel like this final arc was stretched for so long but lately it’s felt so rushed, like deku getting his arms back immediately, this chapter as a whole,, i feel like we’ve had longer chapters of not-as-important moments idk, thankfully it’s not actually that deep for me😭😭 i just think horis brain so interesting lol
oh definitely, but i think that's less horikoshi's writing style and more shonen jump's inhumane schedule like that man is probably overworked, so i'm not criticizing that, it is what it is

made these guys bc they're monsters of the week in s1e04 that i realized i could check off my list quickly
the Sparkbots are cute, compact little drones created by Principal Shockwave to serve as custodians, guides, and maintenance assistants for Teletraan, the JAAT's computer system. they're very nifty little things, obviously well made considering their inventor, and oh so useful... until Bludgeon gets his hands on them with a copy of the Unicron virus.

“A stunning new Western series, “The English," is elevated with authentic Pawnee culture and history.
The six-part series, produced by the BBC and Amazon Prime, is set in the 1890s American West, not long after the removal of the Pawnee from Nebraska.
Echo Hawk was involved with production from the initial script readings, and Pawnee historian and museum curator Matt Reed advised on props, costumes and tribal history.
“This was such a special project because I am Pawnee,” Echo Hawk told ICT from New York City on Nov. 11, the day the series premiered in the U.S. on Amazon Prime.  “I think the last time we had representation was in ‘Dances with Wolves.’ We've been partners with Amazon now for three years. They approached us in early fall of 2019 about this project.”
The series features Emily Blunt as Cornelia Locke, an Englishwoman seeking revenge, who meets Eli Whipp, an ex-cavalry scout of the Pawnee Nation played by Chaske Spencer, Fort Peck Tribes.
“You could knock me over with a feather when I heard that there was not only a significant Pawnee storyline, but that Emily Blunt’s lover/co-star was going to be a Pawnee and a scout,” Echo Hawk said.
“My great-great-grandfather, from where our name Hawk came from, was a Pawnee scout,” she said. “On so many levels, it was deeply personal. It just was very emotional to help ensure that this story was told in a really authentic way.”
Echo Hawk says that bringing in Pawnee people to ensure authenticity is also “about how we're building power as Native peoples in ensuring that we have a place throughout every aspect of that storytelling process...”
“The tide is shifting and there can no longer be stories about us without us,” Echo Hawk said. “When we got the call and first met Hugo, the writer-director, and his entire team, they were just so lovely and warm and welcoming. Our team did the initial reviews of all the scripts and were able to really talk to them about what we thought about storyline characters, where we thought there were potentially some issues or some things that might not be accurate.”
Echo Hawk said the [show’s] team was open to IllumiNative's notes on the detail and the authenticity to ensure that everything that made it into the film was something that the tribe was going to feel comfortable about.
“We've oftentimes dealt with production companies and writers or directors who just don't want script notes. They want you just to come in and rubber stamp the production,” she said.
“I think it's changing times,” she continued. “That was so important, that through IllumiNative’s advocacy, research, the work we've done in the industry, that we were able to create space within this production to have our Pawnee people have agency and partnership with the writer-director and the production team and Amazon.”” -via Indian Country Today, 11/21/22

pd piercing hcs :) there are no piercing shops in deadwood. william got his double piercings done in a school bathroom with a sewing needle and an ice cube. they look mangled as hell, but they work. during the skip after turning 18, he got a nostril piercing (that he picks at constantly, having it healed is a distant hope), triple helix on the right, and an industrial (that will also never heal bc he keeps wearing headphones over it) and a helix below it. he wanted a tongue piercing as well, but he's afraid he'd eat it or something on accident. he usually has plain silver jewelry, but has novelty halloween earrings as well dakota got standard lobes when he was very young (and was a brave boy about it) and never thought about getting more until he got his powers. he started getting migraines soon after. he got a right-side daith as a form of acupuncture for it (still being brave about it) which made them at least a little better. it's a simple gold ring that it usually hidden in his hair. also the (canonical) navel piercing holding a chain across his waist unless he’s expecting combat elf ears means more room for jewelry!!!!!!!!! vyncent has 4 lobe piercings, a triple helix on the left, and quadruple helix on the right. well. had a quadruple helix. the top ring was torn in a fight while on an adventure, but at least he has a cool rip there now? theres also a flat and a rook on the left side. he got most of them just for fun, but similarly to prime, having a lot is a sign of toughness. the idea isn't conveyed much with vyncent though since his jewelry is gold/crystal and looks rather regal (my beautiful elf prince)
ashe winters can not go through metal detectors. she has a fully stacked ear from her lobe up to the tips of her ears on both sides. her lobes are 0 gauge/8 mm (puts hoop earrings through them for added swag). double tragus on the left. the other inside of her ear was unpierced, but she got a daith on the right after she saw dakota's (not in a gay way tho. definitely not.). she has a forward helix on the left to put a chain across because they don’t have the anatomy for an industrial. they used to have glasses, but switched to contacts to get a bridge piercing. double nostril + septum combo. snake bites that she likes biting at the inside of. before she got the daith, she got an eyebrow piercing on the right to balance the tragus. she has jewelry grouped into full stacks so it always matches. wears both gold and silver, but mostly black jewelry (it stands out best against the white hair)

Jubilee
Tumblr media
First thing first, Jubilee shows you the realism of the Bombay talkies era with an interval by building huge and royal studios, cinema reels, crew chairs, hand painted posters, an ambitious producer with business acumen, smoking pipe, outfits, and so much more. The series in itself is quite symbolic for the purpose of depicting the golden era. Yes, I call it a golden era. I read the show is pretty much inspired by the life of Himanshu Rai and Devika Rani. Let’s kickstart.
Praise worthy angles from the entire series that are responsible for the story:
Blazing journeys of 5 characters Roy, Binod, Jay, Niloufer, Walia
The unparalleled fate of 2 studios Khanna studio and Roy studio
The transformations, transitions, and evolving cinema with a blend of crime, love, conspiracy and fame.
Beginning, Rise and Fall
It is commendable to see how the makers combined the most essential attributes of the black and white cinema - Dialogues, Music, Drama and great frames.
The 3 compelling dialogues that summarize Cinema which are crafted beautifully in the film with the scene,
'Power is within this weapon of cinema.'
'Cinema can raise a level by giving the audience a taste of poetry, photography, music and aspirations.'
'Cinema can empower people.'
Let us put the stars on the shoulders of the team. Vikramaditya Motawane, Atul Sabharwal and Soumik Sen are the names. I should say, a gorgeous job on the series by all the teams.
Supposedly it has to be one of the most expensive projects as it costs a fortune to build a city entirely. Especially a city which used to look a certain way but not any more. It is bound to attract criticism, comparisons and judgements. Hence applause for the art department.
Moving to the title, Jubilee. Good one. The word Jubilee was significant in the non-bollywood era. It marked a big success of the film if it reaches Jubilee unlike the crore club where films are less than 2 stars but box office is 200 cr.
Vikramaditya Motawane has created a web series that is uncommon among current subjects. Lots of makers tried to recreate the golden era but most of them went unnoticed. I am fond of Khoya Khoya Chand for the infamous vintage era. However, reaching everybody through OTT through Jubilee with a 10 episode series of 50 minutes is a master thought. That breathing space to judge the success with an olden times ‘interval’ but of a week is outstanding. However, such a big risk.
Mentioning positives of the show to move with. It has a decent Star cast that is not very glittering and glam. Subtle and real. When you cut on the star factor you can actually see through the show and its potential. So I liked the cast to portray that era. Apararshakti Khurana as one of the leads is huge. Names to mention: Wamiqa Gabbi and Prosenjit Chatterjee. I am all praises for Wamiqa Gabbi. Simply Wow. She is a complete package of dance, acting, nakharas, ada and reality. An actress who very clearly takes you to the era of queens like Waheeda Rehman, Mala Sinha, Nutan and the list goes on. She does not imitate anybody. Prosenjit Chatterjee, an innovative and ahead of his time producer who wants to make a mark but probably wishes to stick to what sells on screen with a traditional cinema perspective. The curiosity that both Roy and Niloufer go on building in their own way is really good. Sidhant Gupta’s energy matches the character’s but his acting felt an over-do at times. But when he walks as a star is one act you can’t miss but notice. It shows a mix of stardom and simplicity. Great work there. He is the Guru Dutt effect as a one man show with actor-director qualities. Aditi Rao Hydari is just being herself, a beauty. Ram Kapoor, Shweta Basu are names known for good acting just like that. All the supporting actors have done a celebrated job in their roles. Amazing to watch Arun Govil in a web series. The casting decisions are appreciable. The character Govil plays as a calm father is peaceful for the eyes and ears.
Music is magnificent. Thanks to Amit Trivedi for giving one more album that can be put on loop. The compositions of jubilee prove that even today a melody is possible with sensible ‘Hindi’ lyrics which are louder than the music and each word, chord and instrument is heard and worth a praise. Kudos to Amit Trivedi and Kausar Munir for creating songs that calm people like us can humm. My personal favourites are Voh Tere Mere Ishq, Dariyacha Raja, Na Koi Mera and Saare Ke Saare Akele. Rest you would not like to skip as well. It has the sound of the period it belongs to. The lyrics bear to our usual spoken Hindi language - simple and understood. I can’t put this more straight. Those days were about melody and dialogues that hit the audience.
Dialogues as expected are filled with drama and conviction.
Favourite frame from the series is Jay and Nilo sitting on the road drenched in the rain in front of a theatre under the poster of Baiju Awara. Splendid! You do not have to show intimacy by stripping down and making love. Sometimes it's just the way you sketch love on screen. Quite a romantic frame. Other Mesmerizing frames:
Binod first in front of the fire that also marks the end frame of Roy in front of fire.
Sumitra sitting in front of the mirror in the train.
Roy, sitting in his private screening theatre, calls the man to project the reel.
Jay Khanna in his own studio on the first day against the Taxi cut out.
The last shot of Roy studio with lights dimming symbolizing the fall.
Jay Khanna’s cabin with Taxi Driver Poster of Jay and Nilo.
And the favourite of many, the RK inspired Jay and Niloufer umbrella scene.
I am glad to see one series with no skin show, no kissing at every alternate shot and most importantly close to no violence. Every other show today is either lust or violence with litres of blood flowing. This series is like detox.
Some curiosity creeps in. Was Phone tapping really a thing? Would the show not be as captivating as it was if tapping was not a part of the show? Mysterious.
Coming to an end resembles a Guru Dutt film with a song like Dekhi Zamane ki Yaari. Saare ke Saare Akele went on flipping pages and how heartbreaking every page was!
Looking at Jubilee overall,
What’s remarkable is the tragic ending given to all the characters like most of the yesteryear actors saw. It is not a fictitious act of drama. We have heard stories where either people disappeared from the industry or their demise was not a very pleasant one or some love stories were not as happy as their film’s or their stardom just vanished with a flop. I admire the way fiction was weaved with the inside stories from the film industry. But across 10 episodes we saw a lot of screen time invested in long pauses. Not sure why the typical fame was not shown like ordinary fans gathering around Madan or crowds at the red carpets of premieres. No premieres at all actually. But the pre-independence period, partition and its effect on the cinema industry was precisely connected. The makers very smartly keep awards at bay as filmfare started in 1954 and this story wraps up by 1953. Also, the details that were very well shown were salaried crew, technicians and even actors associated with the studio, the refugee camps, international interventions and the editing on negatives of the reel. What is incredible to see is the grey shade every character gets with situations. It's meticulous writing.
All the characters had a closure but I wonder what happened to Shamsher Walia.
I was waiting for the last ‘The End’ or ‘समाप्त’ after we saw Interval post the 1st batch of 5 episodes. But that did not come. Another season in making? Giving benefit of doubt as the glorious era of cinema has just started in Jubilee. But I must say first is the only first. What follows is to piggyback on the popularity of last success. It loses its charm. I hope the makers continue the legacy if they plan seasons.
To end this I would say Jubilee gives you the pictorial version of the tales and accounts narrated by the legends and insiders. I will not deny that the series seems stretched or sluggish at times but I think establishing the actors and an entire past generation will take its own time.
Jubilee is a must watch for people who believe in the essence of cinema and Hindi film industry of yesterday. It is for obsessed film lovers who have not yet fallen prey to Bollywood’s faux stardom.

On September 7th, 1978, British Labour Prime Minister James Callaghan confirmed that he would not be calling an early election, despite the precarious stability of his minority government.
"…The government must and will continue to carry out policies that are consistent, determined, that don’t chop or change and that brought about the present recovery in our fortunes…We can see the way ahead…"
Opposition Leader Margaret Thatcher was not best pleased, referring to the government as chickens and stating;
"…The real reason he isn’t having an election is because he thinks he'll lose…"
Even Liberal leader David Steel, whose party had propped up the government through the Lib-Lab Pact, wasn’t happy, stating that the country was due for change and that an election was the only way to breathe life into the four-year-old parliament.
Callaghan had succeeded Harold Wilson in tricky circumstances in 1976. Inflation had peaked at 26% and unemployment was heading toward 1.5 million, a devastating figure in the context of the time although it would more than double by the mid 1980s under the Tories. Callaghan was forced to make unpopular cuts in government spending to comply with terms set out by the International Monetary Fund, after a financial crisis precipitated by the plunging Pound had necessitated an emergency loan. But it wasn’t all doom and gloom, the balance of trade was improving on the back of growing revenue and production from North Sea Oil, which was expected to make the country self-sufficient by 1980.
In the autumn of 1978, the government proposed that trade unions moderate the following year’s pay claims to 5% as a key part of the ongoing fight against inflation, which was by then hovering at 8%. The unions, however, rejected any limits proposed by the Callaghan government and vowed to pursue their right to free and unrestrained collective bargaining. The first major employer to concede over and above the government’s proposed ceiling was Ford Motor Company, which granted an increase of 17% after an initial ambit claim of 25%.
That December, the government received an unwanted Christmas present, when a motion in the House of Commons was carried condemning;
"…the arbitrary use of economic sanctions against firms and workers who have negotiated pay settlements beyond a rigid limit which Parliament has not approved…"
The Civil Service unions, now isolated under government control while private sector companies were free to set their own wage negotiation benchmarks without risk of sanction, prepared for militant action. The ensuing Winter of Discontent strikes created shortages of a number of essential commodities. NHS hospitals, ambulance services, rubbish collection, schools and even funeral and burial services were caught up in transport and related stoppages that created nationwide chaos.
Tumblr media
At one point 200 000 workers were temporarily laid off, and rubbish piled high in the streets. By the end of January 1979, the strike ended with employers conceding to almost all of the various unions’ demands.
Into this chaotic atmosphere returned the PM from a summit with US President Carter, French President Valery Giscard d’Estaing and the West German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt. The meeting had been held in the sunny Caribbean Island of Guadeloupe. Callaghan, looking relaxed and unconcerned according to some reports, rather unwisely stated,
"…I don’t think that other people in the world would share the view that there is mounting chaos…"
Tumblr media
He was rewarded by the famous What Crisis? headline in The Sun.
Tumblr media
With an election looming, the government and Trades Union Congress finally made an attempt to publicly reconcile. The new Concordat, issued in February 1979, spelled out guidelines for a new cooperative approach toward dispute resolution, called for restraint in wage demands and set a joint ambition for an inflation rate of below 5% by 1982. It promised more measured picketing and more liberal union control over workforces. Callaghan called this a great step forward, while the Confederation of British Industry, unsurprisingly, said it was too little, too late.
Opposition Leader, Margaret Thatcher, soon seized a golden opportunity to take command of the agenda. She steamed in with motion of no confidence against the government on March 28th, 1979. The motion was passed by one vote, the first such successful motion since 1924. The subsequent general election paved the way for 18 years of Tory government.
Following the inevitable election loss, Jim Callaghan stayed on as Opposition Leader until 1980 when he was succeeded by Michael Foot. He subsequently served in the Lords as Baron Callaghan of Cardiff and passed away in 2005, aged 92.

The Warner Bros. Decision cancels Coyote vs. Acme Movie
February 9th 2024    Entertainment / Streaming / Film
KOSAMA
| Writer and Recovering Anime
The movie was originally going to be cancelled on November 9th, 2023. In response to the uproar, Warner Bros. decided to backtrack on its initial decision. Rather than axing the movie altogether, the studio opted to give the filmmakers an opportunity to pitch it to other studios. If another studio expressed interest in picking it up, they were welcome to do so.
But now several months, and Warner Bros. had reached a breaking point.
Now according to TheWrap, industry giants like Amazon, Netflix, and Paramount eagerly viewed for the opportunity to snatch up the rights to premiere Coyote vs. Acme, following Warner Bros.' reversal of stance. The studio graciously allowed the creators of the live-action/CGI hybrid project to explore other avenues, sparking a bidding war among the titans of entertainment.
Despite each studio reportedly presenting enticing offers, including Paramount's ambitious plans for a theatrical release, none managed to meet Warner Bros.' lofty expectations of the $75–$80 million range.
No one's 100% sure what lead to the decision though the likely explanation seems straightforward: there was a potential tax write-off of $75 million or more if the project were scrapped. Therefore, for Warner Bros. to forgo this tax advantage and allow a competitor to reap the benefits, the sale price would need to match or exceed that figure. Decision-makers likely crunched the numbers without even needing to watch the movie.
While it's evident that accounting laws should be revisited to discourage the abandonment of completed projects, it's understandable that executives would utilize the tools available within the current legal framework to maximize profits for their shareholders.
