Ukraine’s president stresses importance of focusing on path to victory
Tumblr media
Kyiv (The Times Groupe) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday that society and Kyiv’s partners should not lose sight of the path that must be followed in order to defeat Russia.
“Compared to last year, it’s quieter in many places now. But this does not mean that somewhere you can ignore the war or be less focused on helping the state,” Zelenskyy said during an evening address.
“We have managed to do a lot together with our partners to protect people. Ukraine and the whole of Europe. But that doesn’t mean it’s time to rest on our laurels. We have a long way to go. The movement is forward. It’s something for which we need unity no less than before. We must be no less focused than before,” he said.
“Just as before, our positions at the front, all our soldiers at their positions must be supported by Ukrainian positions politically and in terms of information, by the power of weapons and the power of our social unity, our internal stability and the strength of Ukraine’s ties with the rest of the world.” TIMES OF OCEAN
Zelenskyy also said that this is the task of the state and its people, both on the domestic and international level, who value “a free life and an international rules-based order.”
“It is foolish to just passively hope that someone else will bring victory, the one who is now in the trenches, the one who is now performing assaults. This is a joint task. Everyone wins. Those who fight for it, and those who provide weapons. Those who reduce the capabilities of the terrorist state, and those who increase those of Ukraine,” he added.

A handful of congressional Republicans met Tuesday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a signal of continued U.S. support even as hard-right members of the party vow to block future aid to the embattled country.
The newly appointed chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee led a small delegation to Kyiv to meet with Zelenskyy for the first time since the start of the war a year ago and since Republicans won the majority in the House of Representatives in November.
Chairman Mike McCaul and four other Republican lawmakers said they discussed at length what Ukraine’s military needs to fight off Russian aggression. Zelenskyy provided them with a list of weapons, including longer-range artillery and air-to-surface missile systems.
The meeting came one day after President Joe Biden made an unannounced trip to Kyiv to reaffirm U.S. support for Ukraine as the war heads into its second year.
Biden has been trying to keep the allies unified in their support for Ukraine as the war is expected to intensify with spring offensives. The biggest hurdle facing the President is House Republicans. McCaul’s visit Tuesday is the latest in a series of efforts by the Texas Republican to make the case to his party for why the U.S. should continue spending billions of dollars on the war effort.
“We have seen time and again the majority of Republicans and Democrats support our assistance to Ukraine. But the Biden administration needs to layout their long-term strategy,” McCaul said in a statement. “There are some Members who would be more supportive if they saw a long-term strategy that was based on a Ukrainian victory rather than sending just enough support to prolong the war but not win it.”
A spokesperson for McCaul noted the delegation has been focused on oversight and ensuring there are guardrails in place for any future aid to Ukraine.
A far-right faction of the Republican Party has been expressing its opposition to continued U.S. support to Ukraine since last spring. That campaign intensified this month when a group of 11 House Republicans led by Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida put forward a “Ukraine Fatigue” resolution. It stated that the U.S. “must end its military and financial aid to Ukraine” and urged the combatants to “reach a peace agreement.”
“America is in a state of managed decline, and it will exacerbate if we continue to hemorrhage taxpayer dollars toward a foreign war,” Gaetz said.
Thus far, the U.S. has provided four rounds of aid to Ukraine in response to Russia’s invasion, totaling about $113 billion, with some of the money going toward replenishment of U.S. military equipment that was sent to the front lines.
Congress approved the latest round of aid in December. While the package was designed to last through the end of the fiscal year in September, much depends upon events on the ground.
For his part, Zelenskyy has been working with both Democrats and Republicans to ensure their support once the country runs out of aid, likely to happen in late summer. “It’s really very important. We’re thankful for the U.S., for its people,” Zelenskyy said in an video posted by his office after the meeting.
In comments later on social media, Zelenskyy added, “Thank you, American congressmen, for supporting Ukraine and understanding the importance of stepping up aid to help us achieve victory over the aggressor.”

By HANNA ARHIROVA and CARA ANNA VINNYTSIA, Ukraine (AP) — As Russian troops pressed their offensive in Ukraine’s east, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy fired his state security chief and prosecutor general on Sunday, citing hundreds of criminal proceedings into treason and collaboration by people within their departments and other law enforcement agencies. “In particular, more than 60…

Talk About Sensitivity In The COD Fandom **Important.**
THIS IS NOT A DEBATE POST. DO NOT BOTHER.
Hey, everyone. After the reveal of Makarov in the trailer (as well as general concern), I think a chat about sensitivity is important. Since the trailer’s release, I have seen a major increase in simping for Makarov posts as well as genuine romanticization of Russia and/or Russian Soldiers. First, I want to talk about the romanticization of Russia and/or Russian soldiers because it’s seriously getting out of hand. I need you guys to realize that Russia is an ultranationalist country and yes, maybe not everyone who lives there believes what their government does, but it’s important to know a big portion of their population does. I have seen multiple posts and edits of this man right here (pictures below).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THIS GUY IS NOT SOMEONE YOU SHOULD LIKE, AND PEOPLE NEED TO UNDERSTAND THAT HE DOES NOT LIKE YOU. This is one of the most popular Russian Soldiers amongst the internet due to the way he wears a mask, gear, has an accent, and is buff. He makes videos teaching soldiers how to kill people—innocent people in Ukraine who are just trying to survive. I have seen people straight up ignore when someone tells them what this man has done, so let me put it this way—he does not like you. He wants you dead. He is racist, a homophobe, transphobe, antisemitic, etc. He absolutely hates The West, and he does not like you unless you are a cis, straight, white 100% Russian. Even if you’re a woman, he DOES NOT LIKE YOU. If you American, HE DOES NOT WANT YOU ALIVE.
[This part is not targeted; just a general statement.] Second; there is a serious problem with how you guys address Makarov as a character. There is absolutely no problem enjoying him as a villain because I do too, but you guys have to realize that Makarov is an ultranationalist—which is exactly what Russia is right now, an ultranationalist terrorist state. “But he’s fictional, it doesn’t matter! it’s not that deep!” It actually is that deep. I keep seeing content for Makarov and I can’t force anyone to stop making “fluffy fics”, but I need y’all to have some fucking decency towards victims and people affected by the war. I know people who are affected by the war who feel ill seeing posts painting Makarov in a good light. If you are going to write Makarov, do NOT romanticize him as a character—do NOT paint him a decent or good light, because you can’t. Write him like the bastard he is. And no, this isn’t a “let people write what they wanna write” situation. You can do that, but please be expected to be judged and blocked by me and many others. Makarov is quite literally the characterization of everything that is wrong with Russia, and what HAS been wrong with Russia. Makarov is not a bad boy, a rebel, etc, he’s a fucking terrorist. Please be for real. “But the military in general is bad, so why does it matter specifically around Makarov?” Please see above my previous reasons. Thanks.
The overall message of this point is to be fucking respectful. There are actual people dying and slaughtered for no reason other than ruined pride and a lot of Ukrainian folk seek comfort and distractions in the internet and their fandoms. This ruins it for them and quite frankly, sometimes how Makarov is being written? It’s completely insensitive. Anyway, below are a few links where you can directly support the efforts and the people of Ukraine. Peace and love, and please write with critical thinking.

During Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Canada last Friday, House Speaker Anthony Rota introduced Hunka as a Canadian-Ukrainian war hero, prompting a standing ovation from parliamentarians.[...]
In a letter to Poland’s Institute of National Remembrance, a body that researches and investigates past crimes against the Polish nation, Czarnek asked it to “urgently examine” whether Hunka is wanted for crimes against Polish people of Jewish origin, adding that “signs of such crimes are grounds to apply to Canada for his extradition.” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told media the situation was “extremely upsetting” and “deeply embarrassing” for Canada.

Scholz, Macron, Draghi and Johannes meeting Zelenskyy in Kyiv
In a historical event, German chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Minister President Mario Draghi and Romania's President Klaus Johannes visited Volodymyr Zelenskyy for the first time since the beginning of the full-scale war in Kyiv.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Welcoming them in an official ceremony in Mariinskyi Palace, Zelenskyy held negotiations with them. After that, there was a joint press conference (start: 30:07).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The most important points from the negotiations, the press conference and the press statements afterwards:
announced their support for granting Ukraine "immediate EU candidate status"
Germany said Ukraine is "part of the European family", adding that this also applies to Moldova, and they should be granted a candidate status too
Germany also said that other Balkan countries should make progress so they can be included in the EU
should EU member states approve Ukraine's candidate status, it is expected to be subject to strict conditions → status will be accompanied by a roadmap and will also involve taking into account the situation in the Balkans and the neighbouring area, notably Moldova
France said that they will stand on Ukraine's side for as long as necessary and will help them to defend their sovereignty and freedom
several new weapons from France and Germany; Germany promised to support Ukraine with several weapons as long as it is needed
no Minsk 3 → there will be sanctions as long as Russia is waging war against Ukraine; there will be no dictated peace for Ukraine; peace only with Ukraine and their approval
Scholz finally chooses sides and makes a clear statement that he supports Ukraine and is on their side (even ending his statement with "Sława Ukrajini!")
Italy and Romania condemned the lies about the blockade of the grain and called out Russia (Gazprom) for lying about the reasons for the reduced gas delivery over the past few days
Germany and France condemned the "barbarism", "unimaginable cruelty", and "senseless violence" they had seen after visiting Irpin before they met with Zelenskyy
Italy vowed Ukraine will be rebuilt with European help
France said they will do everything so Ukraine can decide its fate
Germany announced a trilateral agreement with USA and UK to provide Ukraine with weapons and help them
Zelenskyy gave them a list of necessary new sanctions and hopes they will be implemented in a seventh sanction package against Russia
