🌈 (dealer's choice), ☔, 🌤️?
🌈 favorite playbook/class from In The Time Of Monsters
even though she only has 15 HP, the ice witch can create an endless number of arcane wards which grant her the ability to survive billions of points of damage (which is needed in a game that regularly uses exponents)
☔ game idea i dont know i'll ever get around to
game where the rules are explained by an anthropology paper about the weird freaks who invented the game back in the 1920s as part of their cult
🌤️ favorite mechanic from a game i'm workign on
in Prince of Hounds, your three stats are the three laws you're bound to (Thou Shalt Not Kill, Thou Shalt Not Steal, Thou Shalt Not Fall In Love). each of these has a number between 1 and 6, and you roll under if youre taking action to follow a law and roll over if you're taking action to break that law. i'm very proud of the whole system!

Hey there! Could you possibly write a Sandor Clegane x gender neutral reader where Sandor has a soft spot for reader and reader feels the same? He tries to hide it but one day reader get’s hurt and he patches them up and maybe confessions come out?

🦋 Little Bird— Sandor Clegane x gn!Reader
Summary: You get injured in an ambush. Sandor carries you to safety and takes care of you.
Tags: #so much hurt/comfort, #a teensy bit of angst, #fluffy ending, #potentially OOC Sandor Clegane but personally I think he is pretty baby girl, #request
Warnings: Gender Neutral, no use of Y/N, descriptions of blood and injury, mentions of death, cannon compliant threats of violence, no beta and no ‘ragrets' [1,371 words]
AN: This is a request by @agender-wolfie. I really hope that this is what you were looking for! It came out a bit longer than I intended, but I am such a sucker for hurt/comfort tropes I really shouldn’t be surprised lmao. I wrote this all in one sitting and I haven’t done any editing so please excuse any errors. Happy reading! 🦋 Love BB
If you like this work my requests are currently open! So please give me your ideas ;)
You hissed a curse, gravelly and threadbare, as Sandor sidestepped another fallen tree.
A jumble of vulgar expressions that barely registered to you as they left your mouth. Almost all of them taught to you by the giant man holding you to his chest. The hound cradled you surprisingly gently, but his tension was evident. It was written all over him.
His scarred face, which you so rarely got the opportunity to study, was pulled into a broken grimace. The rest of him taut like a wire ready to snap beneath his armour. If you weren’t bleeding all over him, you might have reached up to prod the furrow of his brow. A silly attempt to smooth away Sandor’s permanent scowl.
The thought shattered as another wave pain tore through your ribs. Every bump in the path sowing fresh agony in the ruined skin and muscle.
Sandor ran a calloused thumb over the side of your knee in apology. Uttering clumsy noises of comfort as he picked up the pace.
“We’re almost there. Hold on just a bit longer, little bird.”
His gruff voice was cut with a noticeable amount of panic. Your brow scrunched at the unusual sound. You had gotten used to many things about Sandor as you travelled North with him. His rough sense of humour, bitter attitude, scarred face and huge stature were familiar to you by now. Underneath those things, his kindness and his softheartedness had become apparent to you too.
All the vulnerable pieces of himself that he smothered and choked beneath layers of vulgar humour and recklessness, had been presented to you in glimpses as you got to know him. But panic? Panic was new to you.
The farmhouse that Sandor had marked out in the distance finally drew into view. Up close it was a measly grey thing. The stone masonry looked haphazard at best but its chimney puffed with life. Behind it a barn lay with its doors open and rattling in the freezing wind.
You expected Sandor to head straight for the shelter of the barn but instead he strode to the front door. The family of four, seated around the dining room table inside, scrambled back as he slammed open the door with his usual subtlety. Which was to say— none at all.
You groaned as the sudden movement jostled your wound. Normally you would have chastised him for being so rude but your head was swimming. Too weak to lift your hand, you focused your energy on your eyes. Willing them to stay open, if not for your sake then for the sake of your worried companion.
An old man stepped forward to speak but Sandor cut him off, “One of you better be a healer, because if they die I will mount all of your heads outside on sticks.”
It was an ugly threat and they paled. The youngest boy whimpered looking suddenly ill. A younger woman with dark hair and a generous smattering of freckles stepped forward. She gestured a slightly shaky hand towards the table before him, before turning to her family.
“Clear the table, quickly. We can lay them down here,” her attention shifted back to the massive man standing in the doorway, “I’m not a healer by profession but I’ll do everything I can.”
Sandor seemed pleased enough by this answer. The rest of the family had been wise enough not to put up a fight and so Sandor stepped forward. He eased his grip and lay you down on the hastily cleared surface.
He moved to step away and let this stranger do her work but you whimpered. Fingertips clutching at air until he shifted back into reach.
A leather belt was stuffed between your teeth as your tunic was torn up the side. Unfamiliar hands grasped at your arms and legs. Holding you down with a bruising grip. All the while, Sandor brushed his bloodied fingers over your forehead and through your hair. The warmth of his skin a small consolation for the pain you were about to endure.
The woman lifted a needle and thread. With a glance at Sandor and his affirming nod she began to count down and you closed your eyes, unable to look.
Three.
Two.
One.
Fire. Your body was on fire. You arched off the table. Trying to escape the agony, the needle slowly piecing your flesh back together. The table shook as you thrashed but the hands holding you down didn’t falter. Sandor’s gravely words of comfort were the last things ringing in your ears as the world went black.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
The first thing that you noticed when you woke up was the lack of pain. Your side still ached, the wound tender, but it was a dull throbbing now. No longer, the screaming torture it was as Sandor carried you away from where you were ambushed.
The second was the warmth. You couldn’t remember the last time you had been this warm since you and Sandor had journeyed across the border into the North. Sandor.
You opened your eyes slowly. The lighting was dim but from what you could tell you were inside the barn. The door was closed now though and soft orange candlelight illuminated the space.
You lay on your good side underneath a thick layer of blankets, and next to you lay the man your eyes sought for. His arm tucked you to him, large calloused hand resting somewhere on your lower back.
His heart thudded rhythmically beneath where your head lay on his chest. His even breathing and faint snores filled the quiet. Despite your inner protests it was the most comfortable you had been in years.
You gazed up at him, not wanting to wake him just yet. Sandor didn’t sleep nearly enough and you were content to watch the way the candlelight danced across his skin. It caught on his scarred cheek. Shadows flickering on the panes of his face.
Unable to resist you lifted a hand to his cheek. Your touch was featherlight but his eyes snapped open. Sandor’s gaze flicked to you immediately. Scanning you for distress and finding none, his body relaxed.
“Seven Hells, I thought you were going to die. Never do that again,” he said gruffly. His cheeks were flushed but he made no move to shift away from you.
Your voice was cracked from screaming but you still managed to mumble, “M’Sorry.”
Sandor sighed, “It wasn’t your fault, little bird.” He reached into his pack and pulled out a water-skein. Unscrewing the top he held it out towards you.
“Here, drink. Then you can go back to sleep,” he said.
“Thank you.”
The moisture eased the pain in your throat and soon you were snuggled back up under Sandor’s arm. The wind howled through the rafters and you both sat in silence for a little while.
Your thoughts broke the quiet, “Thank you for carrying me here. Thank you for staying.”
Sandor’s eyes met yours, they were unguarded and soft in a way that seemed reserved for you. Reserved for these conversations in the dark.
His voice was low as he replied, “I would have carried you to the ends of the earth, little bird.”
You studied him, the scars that mottled his skin, the cut on his brow and the curl of his mouth. Something deep within you settled, like a cat stretching out on a rug.
“You’re a good man, Sandor Clegane,” you said.
The conviction in your voice hit him harder than any blow on the battlefield ever had. The tidal wave of emotions that followed threatened to take him under but he swallowed them down.
You pretended not to notice his watery eyes and he lifted his spare hand to stroke your head. “Go to sleep, I’ll keep you safe.”
You nodded sleepily, too tired to fight it off any longer. A few seconds pass before you feel it. The soft press of his lips on your forehead. They linger there for a while before he pulls back, the warmth that they leave behind searing like a brand on your skin. You smile as you drift off, lulled to sleep by his warm embrace and steady breathing.
“Goodnight, little bird.”

Slight spoilers for Spirit Oath, but only slight because I don't feel like checking my accuracy this post is going off of memory.
I love Miranda so much.
When I first read her mini novel I was slightly disappointed with her having an "arranged marriage I don't want to get married I want to run wild in the woods" story. This was when I was like 14 probably, so it's been a while since that first opinion.
Since then I've suffered through several fantasy fiction in which the female protagonist is forced into something like a marriage or "being lady like" and in most of those the MC "hated being in those situations and wanted to get out" but then didn't for whatever plot reasons and just instead suffers.
Miranda doesn't do that. And it's one of the reasons she's one of my favorite heroines of all time. Because while *with in the story* all woman are valid (even a badly written female character is still a valid person within the context of the story), I particularly like the ones that don't take any and all bullshit thrown at them and then rise above it with their own prowess.
I hate stories where the MC is powerful beyond comparison, strong and a natural leader but then everyone treats them like they are fragile just because of their gender.
Miranda doesn't follow this trope. Part of that is the Spirit Series isn't a romantasy, they characters have relationships but they aren't tied to the genre of being romance. But part of this is Miranda is explained in the books to be a headstrong stubborn character who doesn't take shit, and she's also shown in the books that she doesn't take shit.
And a great point to the showing not telling is how she handles her family in Spirit Oath.
Enjoyably so with cursing, yelling, grand larceny, epic amounts of property damage, and setting of firm boundaries.
We also get a glimpse into her chosen family. Her elder sister who she understands still is in contact with their abusive parents but also sets boundaries with how they act with Miranda, her parents being cut out, and her adopted father/mentor Banage. Who we also get to see a kinder side too. Banage understands Miranda's personality and views much better then he does his son's, and he's shown to have a strict but caring demeanor just as he does in the main series. And while he's strict, it's kind of obvious that Miranda craves the structure he gives her.
Miranda own father Simon is also strict, but he's not to figure that is trying to train or educate her as she grows into an adult, he's only shown to be controlling.
Which I also think fits well with Eli and Banage.
Banage was controlling with Eli, he wasn't just strict. And while Eli isn't like Miranda at all, and definitely needed a different parent then just a strict one even without the abuse, Banage manages to grow a bit by the second try.
In the series, we see two versions of Banage, the controlling father of Eli, and the strict mentor of Miranda. And it is mentioned several times that Miranda and Banage get along well (most of the time it's so Eli can feel jealous that he obviously cares more for Miranda then him). And in that way it's more or less loosely implied that Miranda is better because Banages parenting style works better on her then Eli
But in Spirit Oath, we also see that Banage has actually changed over the years. He's gotten better at being a supporting guide.
I say this because of two scenes with Banage in Spirit Oath. The first being when Miranda says she will just run away from home, because she doesn't want to be there.
Banage tells her "do not run away, do not make your parents worry about where you are, even they don't deserve that".
Obviously this is a reference to Eli, but in this moment Miranda describes Banage as being strict and no nonsense, she is not allowed to do this under his mentorship.
But at the end of the book, when Miranda has infact run away from her parents after doing everything she could to endure and make them happy, after they've crossed her boundaries over and over, he supports her full heartedly.
He has his beliefs, but understands she's an adult who can make her own decisions, and he doesn't try to control that.
This is growth for him. And while he's not the best person, he's a great character because of this.
My second point of enjoyment is this is a 20 year old Miranda, and while she's just as much a running through the wilds, makes her own path, sleeps in the woods character in the series. She's especially wild in this book because it's her first shot at full unsupervised freedom.
Literally the first thing this woman does after several years essentially boarding school is spend a month camping in the mountains trying to catch a fucking wind. And she succeeds. Like in Spirit Thief and onwards she's described as pretty and girlish and proud, in Spirit Oath she's got a deep tan and short chopy cropped hair and too much energy and she's forgotten how to be polite to men. I love her.
Third point of enjoyment, Durn.
In the main series we see Miranda using her spirits in crafty and quick ways. And I could make a whole nother post about how spirits are used in this world (since each one is different), but in Spirit Oath Miranda is shown to be especially crafty with her spirits.
And also fucking Durn. Her stone spirit is used a handful of times in the main series, but in this book he's a main contender, but what I love is how she's shown to use him. He doesn't just erupt from the ground as a hand or wall, she doesn't quickly summon him in a fight like a pokemon.
Spirit Oath is one of the few times we get to see a wizard fully lean into the magic part of their craft. Miranda summons Durn quietly and slowly over the course of like a full day, feeds him power, and not even the normal strength for obedience type power, she slowly feeds him like she's building a hot fire. Until he expands to fill the entire property, and then she uses him to create and earth quake and uses him to escape. It's beautiful but also very scary. Because Miranda has to actively plan and execute this with so much purpose outside of just her will.
It truely shows how much power a trained spiritualist can have. And yeah that's a lot of damage.
Also,
Miranda, after hearing about how Josef and Adela were married in absentee: damn glad my parents didn't fucking think of that
Also Miranda: couldn't be me 😎
#legand of eli monpress#the legend of eli monpress#miranda#spirit oath#miranda is anti capitalism#its still technically larceny since she stole Gin#like gin is his own person and no one can own him#but whats his face had to transport him over several boarders before even making it to Zarin home to the fucking Merchant Prince#he had to have had proper documentation for the ghost hound#so like she freed him and bound him by oath as a spirit and friend#but like im sure there was paperwork involved afterwards#im sure it wasnt complicated since the spirit coart probably has laws that let them confiscate abused spirits#but like technically on paper she did steal him

⛅️ and 🌈 for the ask thing! For favorite class could you answer for Beneath Pirate Flags if you’ve heard of it?
🌤️ favorite mechanic from a game i'm working on
In the Prince of Hounds, one of my favorite oaths is The Beautiful, who is considered a Sellsword oath, basically one of the fighter/warrior subclasses. The Beautiful's main weapon, instead of a powerful sword or magic arrows, is the ability to instantly kill anyone who grants them trust.
🌈 my favorite class/playbook from Prince of Hounds
i don't know Beneath Pirate Flags so i'm gonna talk more about the Beautiful if that's quite ok!
i love being able to psychically know someone's romantic weaknesses because i've transformed myself into a beautiful weapon

Reading update

Light Up the Lamp by Kit Oliver - 5/5 stars
Kit Oliver can do no wrong, I guess. I figured I'd like this one a lot given that I loved her other two novels, but hockey books usually aren't five star reads for me. Along comes this book! Unrelentingly lovely, and even though I knew it was going to have an HEA, I still found myself worried that Gil wasn't going to figure shit out.
The Faerie Hounds of York by Arden Powell - 5/5 stars
Gorgeous book that read like a dreamy, dark fairy tale. The first book by Arden Powell I read was really funny, and this was like the complete opposite. Powell has range! This one is sad, but still has a happy ending. If you like Emily Tesh's Greenhollow Duology, I highly recommend this one. They're definitely in the same vein.
Deosil by Jordan L Hawk - 4.75/5 stars
I was SO SAD to get to the end of this series. Whyborne, Griffin, Christine, Iskander, Persephone, Maggie, Niles...I could go on, I love them all. It's hard to say good-bye but they all got a wonderful ending.
The Inside Edge by Ashlyn Kane - 3/5 stars
The Taste of Desert Green by Kim Fielding - 4.25/5 stars
Your Lonely Nights Are Over by Adam Sass - 1/5 stars
Crushed Ice by Ashlyn Kane and Morgan James - 4/5 stars
Roustabout by Morgan Brice - 3/5 stars
Prince in Disguise by Tavia Lark - 5/5 stars
Loved this one just as much as the first in the series. I expected the Draskorans to be...idk, like stereotype fantasy barbarians, so it was extremely refreshing that they weren't.
Old Time Religion by EH Lupton - 5/5 stars
Ahhhhhhhh I love this series!! I really really enjoyed the first book, and I loved this one even more. Really good, really original. I can't recommend this one and Dionysus in Wisconsin enough!
A Thief and a Gentleman by Arden Powell - 3.5/5 stars
The Devil to Pay by Katie Daysh - 4.75/5 stars
If you like Patrick O'Brian but find yourself thinking, surely this could be more gay? Then Katie Daysh's books are for you. This is the second in the series and I was delighted to learn yesterday from her newsletter that she's working on the third, because I definitely am not ready for the series to end! The first book was from Nightingale's POV (there might have been some bits from Courtney's POV? But not many), and this one is entirely from Courtney's. Courtney and Nightingale didn't actually get to spend much time together in this one so I hope they catch more of a break in book 3.
Lord of Eternal Night by Ben Alderson - DNF at pg 6
The Engineer by CS Poe - 4/5 stars
The Larks Still Bravely Singing by Aster Glenn Gray - 5/5 stars
If you're not reading Aster Glenn Gray yet, why not? Why not??? Seriously, if you like Cat Sebastian, PLEASE give Aster Glenn Gray a try. I have yet to read a book by the woman that isn't gorgeous. This book is set right at the tail end of WWI and into the interwar period and is about two young English men who were injured and invalided out of the army. They're both disabled (Robert, the POV character, is missing a leg, and David is missing a hand) and have PTSD.
Also recommended if you like KJ Charles's Will Darling Adventures trilogy. The Larks Still Bravely Singing is just straight historical romance, not romantic suspense, but it deals with similar themes.
Guardians of Dawn: Zhara by S Jae-Jones - DNF at pg 24
Mr Warren's Profession by Sebastian Nothwell - 4.75/5 stars
LOVED this book. I think it's the only historical romance I've read that uses the Industrial Revolution so heavily in the plot, which I really enjoyed. Plus, gorgeous cover.
Honey Mead Murder by Dahlia Donovan - DNF at pg 5
A Market of Dreams and Destiny by Trip Galey - 3.25/5 stars
String Theory by Ashlyn Kane and Morgan James - 3.75/5 stars
One Night in Hartswood by Emma Denny - 5/5 stars
I honestly don't know why, when I received this book in like, November, I didn't immediately put it on the top of my TBR pile. I knew I was going to love it; I was super excited to get my copy. Every time I've shuffled my TBR (like, my actual physical TBR...it's a whole thing...it's actually been mistaken for my full book collection but haha no that's just 200 books I haven't read yet sitting on my stairs...), I've lamented that it's not closer to the top. And then I realized, this is literally my TBR and my own weird fake rules that I've made up about it, so I can actually just pull it from the stack and read it now. So I did!
And yeah, I loved it. So much. Raff and Penn will probably live rent free in my mind forever, not to mention Ash and Lily. I loved the medieval setting (another setting you don't see much in queer historical romance!) and how it really felt like a different world than ours. Plus I'm a sucker for road trip romances. And daddy issues. And horrific scars.
And ugh, the training scenes. The sexual tension. The PINING. Masterfully done. Chef's kiss.
Also we're going to find out who Oliver was, right? RIGHT??? And what happened to Penn's brother?
Out of Touch by Michael Sarais - DNF at pg 7
The Long Call by Ann Cleeves - 4.25/5 stars
Always enjoy a mystery that's well-paced and well-written. I've never actually read anything by Ann Cleeves but I'm going to pick up the rest of this series.
The Death I Gave Him by Em X Liu - DNF at pg 284
