random things to watch over the holiday break
happy holidays friends (⸝⸝^ᴗ^⸝⸝)❄️ as many of us have time off from our normal schedules, are taking long-haul flights or car drives, and will be spending hours in broom closets to avoid our terrifying families, i figure this is the perfect time to look back on the year and put together some watch links for over the break ❄️❄️❄️
panel shows
the christmas special of never mind the buzzcocks is always...something else
speaking of, icymi in a panel show miracle earlier this year an anonymous source provided beautiful archival copies of the first 12 series of nmtb — so this is the perfect time to revisit its classic era!!
junior taskmaster just wrapped up its first season! very wholesome, for the whole family (don't forget to check out the taskmaster podcast discussions for each episode, hosted by ed gamble!)
there were some great eps of cats does countdown this year but this one was probably my standout<3
because this series is on sky so we have to be careful circulating it, not everyone got a chance to watch rob beckett's smart tv when it aired this year! some of the panel guests include natasia demetriou, nicola coughlan, david tennant, romesh, and alan davies, among others
idk if this is controversial but i think the australian guy mont spelling bee MIGHT be better than the new zealand version... i'm not sure yet... i need someone else to watch every single episode and tell me what my opinion should be. i also want to thank this show for teaching me how to spell vinaigrette
this, this, and this were some of my favourite episodes of wilty this year!! btw the 2024 christmas episode just dropped!
there were a lot of wild lineups on mel giedoryc: unforgivable this year, but i'd recommend just starting with the first episode of the latest series because..well you'll understand when you see it
this year i made three big lists of random panel show moments that, in my humble opinion, you will love wasting your holidays hours clicking through: part 1 / part 2 / part 3
misc. tv
the royal variety performance 2024
the completely made up adventures of dick turpin was renewed for s2 so make sure to catch up!!! it's SO stupid hahaha
on a similar, less stupid note, ludwig will also be back for s2!
we're all still missing sean lock, who passed away three years ago, so it's never a bad time to revisit 15 storeys high — especially now that we have upgraded rips!
listen jon and lucy may be divorced but that doesn't make meet the richardsons any less iconic and the last two episodes just released!
s2 of alma's not normal is out this year and doing such amazing things for our sophie willan!!
this was a bit under the radar but backstage with katherine ryan was really fun! i love the mostly-documentary concept and it's one of my favourite things to see the backstage culture between these random comedians (judi x ivo killed me)
rhod gilbert's stand up to cancer documentary was really beautiful ;;
am i being unreasonable? (written by & starring daisy may cooper, from this country) is one of my underrated scripted comedies of the year
paddy mcguinness on who do you think you are
in the new jimmy carr-hosted game show battle in a box, pairs of celebs (mostly comedians) are trapped in an empty box for 24 hours, forced to play a series of mental and physical challenges. if you like the lineup then it's worth checking out!
it's christmas. just follow tradition and watch fry & laurie.
standup
ahir shah – ends (2024)
fern brady – austistic bikini queen (2024)
harriet kemsley – everything always works out for me (2024)
lucy beaumont – live from the royal court theatre (2024)
john kearns – the varnishing days (2023–4)
rhys james – spilt milk (2024)
suzi ruffell – snappy (2024)
tony law – the law also rises (2024)
films
monty python and the holy grail (1975) dir. terry gilliam, terry jones
withnail and i (1987) dir. bruce robinson
gosford park (2001) dir. robert altman
the personal history of david copperfield (2019) dir. armando iannucci
how to have sex (2023) dir. molly manning walker
rye lane (2023) dir. raine allen-miller
scrapper (2023) dir. charlotte regan
kneecap (2024) dir. rich peppiatt
youtube
been enjoying the dish podcast this year!! some of my favourite episodes include claudia winkleman, jordan north & william hanson, saoirse-monica jackson, gordon ramsay, sandi toksvig, richard e. grant, matthew macfadyen, and stephen fry
sandi toksvig hugging guests (2024 edition)
obsessed with this house tour with richard e grant
phil wang was on jolly?? it was fun to see his house
don't sleep on the taskmaster outtakes content!
radio & podcasts
green wing came back for a 6-part radio series and warmed all of our hearts<3
some of my favourite episodes of off menu this year: elis james, john robins, sam campbell, frankie boyle, lucy beaumont, jess knappett, joe wilkinson, tommy tiernan, ardal o'hanlon, huge davies (one of the all-time clips), danny dyer (this one is truly crazy on the ears can't recommend it enough)
the horne section podcast was back for a few episodes!!! if you've never listened before, start with this classic episode you're welcome
susie dent and phil wang have adorable chemistry on this new radio game show
david o'doherty and max rushden started a new podcast about what people did yesterday that has had lots of fun guests! start here if you need to give it a taste
a few RHLSTP episodes worth giving a listen: lee mack, bob mortimer, armando iannucci, rob brydon, peter serafinowicz, ade edmondson, fern brady, among others. if you find your patience waning, he's doing a couple of 'best of 2024' eps! richard's really been focused on his book podcast this year
books
frankie boyle & charlie skelton – a short history of the apocalypse: the vital guide to your future survival (2024)
miranda hart – i haven't been entirely honest with you (2024)
richard osman – we solve murders (2024)
i could go on forever but i've got to stop somewhere heh... looking forward to big fat quiz and more mindless telly in 2025! have a wonderful holiday x sarah

BRB... just upgrading Python
CW: nerdy, technical details.
Originally, MLTSHP (well, MLKSHK back then) was developed for Python 2. That was fine for 2010, but 15 years later, and Python 2 is now pretty ancient and unsupported. January 1st, 2020 was the official sunset for Python 2, and 5 years later, we’re still running things with it. It’s served us well, but we have to transition to Python 3.
Well, I bit the bullet and started working on that in earnest in 2023. The end of that work resulted in a working version of MLTSHP on Python 3. So, just ship it, right? Well, the upgrade process basically required upgrading all Python dependencies as well. And some (flyingcow, torndb, in particular) were never really official, public packages, so those had to be adopted into MLTSHP and upgraded as well. With all those changes, it required some special handling. Namely, setting up an additional web server that could be tested against the production database (unit tests can only go so far).
Here’s what that change comprised: 148 files changed, 1923 insertions, 1725 deletions. Most of those changes were part of the first commit for this branch, made on July 9, 2023 (118 files changed).
But by the end of that July, I took a break from this task - I could tell it wasn’t something I could tackle in my spare time at that time.
Time passes…
Fast forward to late 2024, and I take some time to revisit the Python 3 release work. Making a production web server for the new Python 3 instance was another big update, since I wanted the Docker container OS to be on the latest LTS edition of Ubuntu. For 2023, that was 20.04, but in 2025, it’s 24.04. I also wanted others to be able to test the server, which means the CDN layer would have to be updated to direct traffic to the test server (without affecting general traffic); I went with a client-side cookie that could target the Python 3 canary instance.
In addition to these upgrades, there were others to consider — MySQL, for one. We’ve been running MySQL 5, but version 9 is out. We settled on version 8 for now, but could also upgrade to 8.4… 8.0 is just the version you get for Ubuntu 24.04. RabbitMQ was another server component that was getting behind (3.5.7), so upgrading it to 3.12.1 (latest version for Ubuntu 24.04) seemed proper.
One more thing - our datacenter. We’ve been using Linode’s Fremont region since 2017. It’s been fine, but there are some emerging Linode features that I’ve been wanting. VPC support, for one. And object storage (basically the same as Amazon’s S3, but local, so no egress cost to-from Linode servers). Both were unavailable to Fremont, so I decided to go with their Chicago region for the upgrade.
Now we’re talking… this is now not just a “push a button” release, but a full-fleged, build everything up and tear everything down kind of release that might actually have some downtime (while trying to keep it short)!
I built a release plan document and worked through it. The key to the smooth upgrade I want was to make the cutover as seamless as possible. Picture it: once everything is set up for the new service in Chicago - new database host, new web servers and all, what do we need to do to make the switch almost instant? It’s Fastly, our CDN service.
All traffic to our service runs through Fastly. A request to the site comes in, Fastly routes it to the appropriate host, which in turns speaks to the appropriate database. So, to transition from one datacenter to the other, we need to basically change the hosts Fastly speaks to. Those hosts will already be set to talk to the new database. But that’s a key wrinkle - the new database…
The new database needs the data from the old database. And to make for a seamless transition, it needs to be up to the second in step with the old database. To do that, we have take a copy of the production data and get it up and running on the new database. Then, we need to have some process that will copy any new data to it since the last sync. This sounded a lot like replication to me, but the more I looked at doing it that way, I wasn’t confident I could set that up without bringing the production server down. That’s because any replica needs to start in a synchronized state. You can’t really achieve that with a live database. So, instead, I created my own sync process that would copy new data on a periodic basis as it came in.
Beyond this, we need a proper replication going in the new datacenter. In case the database server goes away unexpectedly, a replica of it allows for faster recovery and some peace of mind. Logical backups can be made from the replica and stored in Linode’s object storage if something really disastrous happens (like tables getting deleted by some intruder or a bad data migration).
I wanted better monitoring, too. We’ve been using Linode’s Longview service and that’s okay and free, but it doesn’t act on anything that might be going wrong. I decided to license M/Monit for this. M/Monit is so lightweight and nice, along with Monit running on each server to keep track of each service needed to operate stuff. Monit can be given instructions on how to self-heal certain things, but also provides alerts if something needs manual attention.
And finally, Linode’s Chicago region supports a proper VPC setup, which allows for all the connectivity between our servers to be totally private to their own subnet. It also means that I was able to set up an additional small Linode instance to serve as a bastion host - a server that can be used for a secure connection to reach the other servers on the private subnet. This is a lot more secure than before… we’ve never had a breach (at least, not to my knowledge), and this makes that even less likely going forward. Remote access via SSH is now unavailable without using the bastion server, so we don’t have to expose our servers to potential future ssh vulnerabilities.
So, to summarize: the MLTSHP Python 3 upgrade grew from a code release to a full stack upgrade, involving touching just about every layer of the backend of MLTSHP.
Here’s a before / after picture of some of the bigger software updates applied (apologies for using images for these tables, but Tumblr doesn’t do tables):
Tumblr media
And a summary of infrastructure updates:
Tumblr media
I’m pretty happy with how this has turned out. And I learned a lot. I’m a full-stack developer, so I’m familiar with a lot of devops concepts, but actually doing that role is newish to me. I got to learn how to set up a proper secure subnet for our set of hosts, making them more secure than before. I learned more about Fastly configuration, about WireGuard, about MySQL replication, and about deploying a large update to a live site with little to no downtime. A lot of that is due to meticulous release planning and careful execution. The secret for that is to think through each and every step - no matter how small. Document it, and consider the side effects of each. And with each step that could affect the public service, consider the rollback process, just in case it’s needed.
At this time, the server migration is complete and things are running smoothly. Hopefully we won’t need to do everything at once again, but we have a recipe if it comes to that.

It's really weird that I'm primarily an application developer, but I'm on the side of the library developers on this one.
Because you can't find a good potato peeler out there, you spend time to make your own. And in the spirit of sharing, you make your personal potato peeler FOSS. But then a small handful of people start using it to peel carrots and apples. There were some hacks you used that you couldn't completely hide so you documented them as internal. Those are of course what people are using to peel their carrots.
After years of iterating on how to improve your potato peeler, you find that you can no longer avoid getting rid of that internal code that allowed carrot peeling if you want to make your potato peeler better at peeling potatoes. So for the next 2 years before you release 4.3 the internal carrot peeling code is marked as deprecated. You add documentation explaining why it's deprecated and what a good workaround is and to reach out to you if the workaround isn't enough. Also from usage stats, you can tell that a much smaller percent of developers use your potato peeler for carrots than for its intended use as a potato peeler.
So 4.3 drops and you start seeing tweets like this
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A tweet by Randall Koutnik (@rkoutnik) that says:
Why programmers like cooking: You peel the carrot, you chop the carrot, you put the carrot in the stew. You don't suddenly find out that your peeler is several versions behind and they dropped support for carrots in 4.3

hii alice! i'm very slowly trying to teach myself html/css by making a neocities, (what i have so far can be seen here, it's not much i know) and i was just wondering if you had any useful tips/resources? :0 your neocities is very cool (i was reminded by that other person that asked about it yesterday) so i thought i would ask <3 i'm already using mozilla webdocs and w3schools, but do you have any other recommendations?
i don't really know a lot about html/css yet, (i don't have a ton of coding experience, most of what i've done has been in python) and so i don't really know how html/css should be "structured", if that makes sense.
any help or pointers are appreciated! ty in advance <3 peace
Your neocities looks great! Especially for a beginner!
Things to look into:
For learning, I'd recommend learning more about semantic design- w3schools
Also, do some studying up on the box model! this website I found seems to have a lot of good information- box model
I'd also look into CSS classes- w3schools
Also, the fastest way for you to learn coding is to... look at other people's code! Go onto neocities, scroll till you see a page you like, and then inspect element the shit out of it >:3c Even if it doesn't make sense at first to you, looking at a lot of code can help you learn new ways of doing things!
blogs u should take a look at: Drakul78, moonview, twelvemen, and nyaa!
OK so for code analysis:
Overall: I like your website a lot! It's simple, it's cute, and it's functional. These are tips for when you want to "upgrade" your site, but as is, it works great :3c
I like to avoid putting traits other than background onto "body", since it severely limits what you can do with your website. (If you wanted to have multiple boxes on screen, for example, you can't do that...)
Also, the contrast between the background and the text is a little too low for my liking, but your text is nice and large so it's not too much of an issue. If you are going to make your text smaller though, you'll need to change those colors.
You already are using semantic design elements in your website, which is really good! Also, using style.css instead of putting it into the page itself is also really good practice.
Ideas for the future:
This is very subjective, but I feel like you are using your website like someone might use a caard. It's pretty, but each page is static, and links to another static page! You can merge a lot of this information into your index- such as credits/links :3c
FONTS! FONTS! FONTS! there are so many beautiful fonts in this world, and with google fonts, you can easily apply them all to your website!! ( •̀ ω •́ )✧ google fonts
also, since you mentioned you were a coder- I'd recommend setting up a way for you to use vscode to edit your page! One of my friends wrote some git code for me that makes it so I can edit my page without making a billion changes to it in quick succession. I'll ask them if I can share it with you if that would interest you, and I could make a separate post on my visual studio code layout if you are curious :3c

Thursday 31st October 2024
Today, we left our glamorous glamping for pastures new. It seems incredible that the week has gone by so quickly in Kakadu. But we have managed to do so much in that time. It was time to pack up shop and head off to Pine Creek and then on to Katherine. Final check to ensure there are no crocodiles hiding in the suitcases.
Now the reason we wanted to call into Pine Creek was that it was the subject a few years ago on our favourite ABC program, Backroads. The presenter Heather Ewart travels around Australia, meeting very small communities and finding out what makes them tick. One such town was Pine Creek. We drove up and down the Main Street looking for signs of life. We thought it would be nice to have a coffee, bit all the possible places appeared shut. There was the old station and museum shut. An exhibition of the old gold mine and subsequent Uranium mine, shut. Not a soul on the streets, and then we came across the Lazy Lizard Tavern. Considering this was the only place with any signs of human habitation at all, it was packed with interest. Firstly, they had a coffee, and they appeared to be serving delicious looking food to a small collection of tourists. Then, at the rear, there was a huge barn filled with restored classic American and Aussie cars and motorcycles. The smell of engine oil and leather was quite beguiling. What an excellent collection. Old metal advertising signs abounded, and a lifetime's collection of registration plates exceeding those of the dvla no doubt. Then, just as you are thinking that the whole place is a little oasis of genius, you notice a small scruffy bloke in the corner playing with a four-foot python which he claims to be perfectly harmless; well at least it's never bitten him he said! He continued to stroke the snake until it becomes apparent something was not right. Hang on, he said, I just have to move his back end slightly. With that, he moved the tail end over the edge of the table just in time for the snake to go about his ablutions. It had never occurred to me that this was an affliction open to our reptile friends, let alone an issue that needs such close attention. However, job done we enquired, as you would after such an event, what he fed said snake with. Oh, rats, he said, I buy frozen ones. It's OK. They only eat one every 3 weeks or so.
Well, moving on, I had to ask about the program. I said Pine Creek appeared on Backroads. Do you remember them making that episode. Oh, I love that show she said. No I didn't know they came here. I'll ask Shannon. She knows everything. She didn't know either. So, there we were with no further leads, and as far as we could tell, the remainder of the town had escaped for the rest of the millennium. The trail was not cold, but dead.
Onwards then to our goal of Katherine. Stopping briefly to admire a buffalo grazing near the roadside we carried on.
Our home for the week is in an apartment on what seems to be a small farm and riding stables. The outlook is very rural and we appear to enjoy unfettered views of a field of cows that enjoy sitting in a small pond to keep cool. We, on the other hand, have air-conditioning to achieve similar aims.
We are still forming an opinion regarding Katherine. First impressions are that it clearly, sadly, has its social problems associated with a high population of indigenous peoples. Once more, we had to be checked before we were allowed to buy a couple of bottles of SB. Small groups of Aboriginies hung around Woolworths and a bit of shouting and lying drunk was occurring, but unfortunately, this can be quite normal behaviour, and it isn't threatening in itself. We made our purchases and returned to our new digs with baramundi and chips. Lovely.
ps. The ABC news showed an article about what they referred to as Pollie Perks. Apparently, politicians, including Prime Minister Albanese, have been accepting gifts, flight upgrades, and pop concert tickets! Shocking. Now, like the UK, there's to be a tightening of rules!
pps Happy 35th Birthday Liam

Hello everyone!
I finally have the courage and time to post about a project my partner and I are working tirelessly on!
It’s no secret that I hate my job. It’s also no secret that I love reptiles with my whole heart. Well, these factors have combined into a project we’re calling Jewels of Bacchus.
We’re going to start breeding ball pythons on a small scale, with the goal to eventually do this as a full-time job!
Here’s the idea: We’re going to start fairly small (10-15 snakes) and sell locally to us at first. Now, I do NOT want to use breeding bin setups for these animals. I want them all to have 4-foot enclosures, as is recommended! This will require a lot of DIY shelving and wiring and such. Luckily, my partner is very handy!
The only bins we would be using would be for the babies temporarily before they’re adopted or given a larger enclosure if they’re hold-backs for the project.
Full transparency: our current snakes are all in 3-foot enclosures, but all of them are babies or juveniles. They will all be upgraded in order of size and age.
Unless we obtain any adults this next expo, we won’t be able to produce a clutch in this first year. And that’s okay! Our babies need to grow up and get their adult homes before they become parents.
I’m honestly really afraid to post this. This is something I really care about, and I know how harsh online communities around this sort of thing can be. But Im passionate about raising and making happy, healthy snakes. These animals create so much joy and wonder in the folks who love them. I hope my friends and mutuals on here want to see the progress and follow along. I may make a side blog for just that content alone, if there’s any interest.
I may also share our Amazon wishlist in a reblog or a reply to this post (ew, Amazon, I agree but for our purposes it is convenient.)
I’ve loved reptiles my whole life. It would be an absolute honor to care for them and spread the love for them as my career.
Thank you for reading! Here are a couple photos of our baby snakes, who will hopefully produce some pretty babies in the years to come!

Hello! Long time no post. I know I rarely pop in here as I'm most active in my discord server for herp keeping, but I did upgrade Apollos Bioactive. :) Im very happy with how nice the background came out in this one, I put this together using a 4ftX2ftX2ft Dubia enclosure. He has a ton of Dairy cow isopods in there with him, no reason other than they're my favorite pods <3. I guess Ill throw some fun facts in now. Apollo is on a Avian/Rat Diet. He is a Lesser(Morph) Ball python. He eats a mix of Chicken, Quail, and Guinea fowl chicks as well as Small rats every 2-3 weeks. Hes a bit tubby still, but he came to me morbidly obese so his journey to health has been a long one. I feed variation in order to maintain his weight and provide him different nutritional Values and as enrichment. I feed Frozen/Thawed, it is a misconception that picky animals that will only eat live are as common as people make them. They are not. The majority of food strikes and feeding responses are directly tied to husbandry and improper keeping. There are **Very** few snakes that will eat only live, very few Species(Like Vine snakes) who may require eating live. **All my snakes eat Frozen/Thawed**.

various headcanons that i forgot aren't actually canon pt. 3
the draw sword guild team, who definitely aren't my favorites
Firstly, I don't know why, but I made the jump of headcanon-ing Hoshino Minoru as Goto Ryuji's nephew. This isn't canon but I refer to it a lot, so I just wanted to clarify straight away this is not part of the manhwa!
Reiji had a really long lasting emo phase. It kept going even when he was a hunter, and only stopped when he was promoted to vice guild leader. But he still has tattoos and piercings from back then, and it drives the team wild (they figure out he has his tits pierced and he never knows peace)
Tatsumi was in university to become an engineer. He tends to do random things whenever he gets bored. As in, dismantling the communal kitchen dishwasher and trying to "upgrade it to maximum efficiency," or taking apart various devices to try and "create a homemade roomba," and so on
Ryuji's lockscreen is an old, fat cat, and his homescreen is that same cat with kittens, and a rather excited young child. This has sparked rumors within the team that he has a kid (the kid is a very young Hoshino Minoru, his nephew)
One of Tatsumi's better hobbies is the trumpet, much to everyone's dismay. However, they realize Minoru is a heavy sleeper when Tatsumi attempts to play the Megalovania theme and Minoru just. Sleeps entirely through it
Kanae was going to be a tattoo designer/artist (I think being a tattoo artist requires a medical degree in Japan... but she would not care) and she still doodles designs in her spare time
Kanae also wants to have every inch of her tattooed, as a goal of hers, so she takes suggestions from the team (Kenzo and Tatsumi aren't allowed to suggest anything because they keep advising onigiri)
When Reiji created the team, he first hired Kenzo, Kanae, and Tatsumi. A tank and two fighters. He hires Mari, a ranger, and Akari, a healer after Tatsumi nearly dies doing stupid shit in the gates
Mari was a sheltered rich kid. The team takes it upon themselves to educate him on the wonders of 60 cent ramen packets (and other things as well)
When Akari moves in with her pet bugs, Kanae goes back to trying convince Reiji to allow her to have a pet python. Reiji doesn't budge, and for her birthday, Kenzo, Tatsumi, and Minoru all band together to sneak a python to her room (it goes about as well as you'd imagine, which isn't well at all)
Kenzo is terrified of bugs. At some point, Akari's millipede escapes. This is where their little rivalry begins
Ryuji doesn't really interact with the team a whole lot (at first), doesn't even attend the trainings. He's moved out of the offered room that comes with being a Draw Sword Guild leader. The kids are a little disappointed, because they've heard a lot about the Goto Ryuji, and barely get to see him outside of dungeons or gates
At some point, the Annual Guild Conference is held in Las Vegas. The entire team begs to go, because it's Las Vegas, and Reiji relents. Even Ryuji goes
Ippei and Mari are tied for being the shortest two on the team. Kenzo uses their heads as elbow rests a lot
Everyone tends to distance themselves from Atsushi a lot, since his fighting style is... dangerous. Kenzo is the only one who is really friendly with him, since he's so confident that he's stronger than Atsushi, so he can't ever kill him
Ippei is prone to insomnia, so it becomes a thing to just. Walk into his dorm room to bother him if you're up at 4 am, because he's most likely up as well
Kei isn't an insomniac, but they are a night owl, so they tend to run into Ippei in the communal kitchen a lot, and they become really good friends when they start playing Minecraft together
Akari discovers Ippei's old streamer videos. Even though he deletes them immediately, it's too late. She's clipped several videos of him getting jumpscared, or rage quitting, or doing something stupid, etc. They become reaction images in their groupchat
Tatsumi challenges him to speed-running Minecraft and loses terribly, but now they know Ippei didn't fake his speed-running videos. Tatsumi always challenges him at least once a month
Reiji urges Ryuji to participate in the team, which prompts Ryuji to choose Atsushi, Kei, and Ippei as potential hunters. Reiji recruits them immediately, but Ryuji still doesn't interact with the team much, to Reiji's disappointment
Ippei accidentally microwaves a fork one time in the morning after not getting any sleep. His expression did not change a single bit as the microwave caught on fire. "Oh no," has become an expression throughout the group
Atsushi, like Yoonho, is capable of shifting powers. He turns into a brown bear, but it's a really unstable shift. He's working on controlling it
(I chose bear because I think Kuma = bear in Japanese, so little brown bear boy!!! He's not little hes like 7 feet tall but you know what I mean)

Progress in the pet room!
Now that the deep clean on the rat cage is done, the single at the bottom of my triple stack is empty (my boys were staying there while I deep cleaned because it took a while)
I am going to take the 12 inch acrylic bedding bin and give it to Sprocket & Rimshot the degus, so they can have full bedding instead of fleece and then a dig box.
The bottom of the bottom unit will get a cement mixing tub instead. Then I will move my 5 sanctuary rat girls in there. Currently they’re in a Prevue 528 as I have worked my way through getting all the rats settled after the big intake.
I have two more upcoming adoptions- one for a pair and one for 8 girls. After that, I will have only a few groups of adoptable rats left. 2 girls, 4 boys, 3 boys, and 3 boys. They should all be able to go into critter nations (most are already) and I will be done using prevues until the next emergency mass intake! They are great short term but not ideal long term for rats due to being small.
Charlie the foster ball python will get a 4x2x2 nearer to the end of the year if she still hasn’t been adopted. Currently she’s in a 40g, but as she’s already 3ft, she’ll need a 4ft tank if she’s staying long term. I have the enclosure but it’s going to take a lot of rearranging to make it fit. Charlie was also from the mass rat intake, no one even knew there was a snake until we showed up.
I am picking up the grids for the guinea pig upgrade this weekend and will hopefully be able to set it up by the end of August.

last song: Mr. Blue Sky by ELO (while on nitrous at the dentist!!! Fun fun fun)
currently watching: gonna be honest I have Journey to the Microcosmos (YouTube series documenting microscopic life) on right now because my cat enjoys watching it. Also so do I, it’s very interesting. But mostly I’m just trying to distract him while I fold laundry.
currently reading: The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul by Douglas Adams. Def not as engaging as Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy and I keep forgetting about it so I’ve been reading it for a while, but it’s not like. A bad book, just not as good as Adams’ other works
current obsession: Elden Ring!! It has so so so many pathetic old men and terrible women and divorce it’s like if George R. R. Martin created a daytime soap opera. Real talk tho I do have so many well thought out analyses and thoughts on the story and characters. I swear im not just getting online and saying depraved things about senior citizens to my followers, I have thoughts about said senior citizens.
Also in terms of non-media obsession I’ve been really getting in deep with bioactive terrariums and just generally planning future tank design upgrades for my ball python Zorayas. It’ll be a long-term project, but I want to build a 120 gallon bioactive pvc set into a nice wood frame with cabinets and hood on top. I’m thinking 24 hour CHE and a day cycle jungle UV for the plants. I’d also like to modify the tubing on my humidifier/hydrometer so that the vapor gets evenly distributed throughout the tank. I’ve heard mixed opinions on belly heat, but she has it in one of her 3 hides, and tends to use that one most often, so I think I’ll keep it. Gonna go with sturdier plants like Snake Plants, Calathea, Pothos, etc. since she’s a heavy girl and bulldozes things. The smaller fern and spider plants didn’t last more than a week with her lol but the other plants are doing great. Just started a second white dwarf isopod colony and will do the same for the springtails soon! God I could go on all day about this shit,,
Feel free to ignore if you don’t wanna do this but imma tag: @ramtiger @tropiyas @glamemeon @valen-dreth @hellobendykitty @knightskaii @sonderingtrashcompactor @sophie-baybey @thecutestdragonslayer
