hey i’m new-ish to tumblr so idk how this works but i think you mentioned you had star trek ocs and i’d love to hear about them!! :D

HII THANK YOU FOR THE QUESTION!! I do have star trek ocs but to be honest their lore has been on a bit of a hiatus since February, but yeah these five are hold a position aboard the USS Nirvana (NCC-2445), which was built a little while after the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-C) was destroyed. They're a really strange group of aliens tbh. Their Captain, Fennr, is a pretty antisocial J'naii who keeps to themself and is very strict on their crew to be 'perfect', so they set a good example for the new life they encounter and to ensure that the ship gets into as little damage as they can manage. They have a character arc at some point after having an epiphany and just becomes a very sassy old person after a while. They're also a military mastermind for some reason, and they're incredible with combat and commanding and negotiating and mediating and everything.

Under them is their first officer Xienna, a Chameloid who sort of took the identity of a dead starfleet officer after she crashed on the planet they were hiding out on and went missing. The old Xienna was really social and loved by her old crew, but the new Xienna is pretty emotionally stunted and has to deal with the guilt that she's a fraud every time she looks in the mirror.

Then there's Quella, the Chief Engineer... who claims she's from a Mars colony and has a strange knack for keeping the ship in tip-top condition all the time. She's ALSO lying about her identity and is actually a part of the Q Continuum, but got bored and decided to make up a backstory, lie about going to Starfleet and taking a post on the ship. She has no idea how to fix the ship manually, but uses her powers to keep it in good shape. Then there's Killian, a Trill and their chief of security. His symbiont, Nyro, has lived for only four lifetimes, one of their former hosts being an old starship captain who recently passed away. Killian was given the symbiont during their time in starfleet academy, which gave him enough starship experience to graduate top of his class and immediately get a spot on the Nirvana. A lot of people still associate him with Nyro's former host, which annoys him a lot. FINALLY there's Zaeln'olor, who's the chief medical officer. I actually don't like him very much and I plan to redo him at some point, but right now he's supposed to be a runaway jem'hadar. Nobody had any idea what kind of species he was until people started going into the gamma quadrant, after he graduated from Starfleet, but nobody really bothered to ask. He had been sent to the Gamma Quadrant after he was due to be killed as a child for his albinism, which hindered his eyesight quite a bit (so he doesn't have supervision... just 20/20 vision). I have no idea how he got sent away yet but he did aight. But he smuggled QUITE a bit of white with him, enough for him to live for a few years if he rationed it out. I believe he runs out of it for a while and tweaks out, but then the Wormhole is discovered and he manages to buy some off of a Ferengi living in a space station near the gamma quadrant (...) so he's alright. OKAY THAT'S ALL I HAVE RN. They sort of do TNG things and explore the alpha quadrant (and then the Gamma Quadrant later on), but since Fennr is a military mastermind they're often called on to aid with combat. I plan to make more, but I'm not in the mood right now. When I decide to fixate on them for a week again I will don't worry about it. But their Unvale pages are linked for anyone who wants a more in-depth description of them because I didn't do a great job of it here haha

Took me about 60 hours which is CRAZY,, I call this one The Quark Family when I’m talking about it (which seems apt) and I’ve literally crammed so many references and details and hours into this my life feels so empty without it. Tumblr is butchering the image quality but that’s just what it is ig,,, I’ve tried and I can’t seem to fix it

Are there any other Kirby fans on here who are also fans of Star Trek? I know of a couple people already, but I’m trying to see if there’s anyone else. I personally see a lot of parallels between Kirby and Star Trek, and some of my Kirby fanart is Star Trek-inspired, so that’s why I’m asking.

Nothing prepared me for how insane Quark and Odo are for each other. The entire popularion of the deep space nine refers to them as archenmies but when Odo is the last official person left able to operate the during an epidemic Quark shows up immediately like "you need help?" Odo gets falsely accused of murder and Quark starts investigating immediately. Odo's quaters get trashed by anti-shapeshifter racists and Quark is the first person there to be with him. Meanwhile Odo is complaining about Quark's dubiously legal business practice while also spending his entire free time in his bar. Yes what Garak and Bashir have going on is cute but it's nothing on whatever the hell is happening between these two old men. Forget romance true love is about being ride or die for your nemesis.

the eightfold word/way

Why Jod Called It That

(spoilers for The Locked Tomb up to & including Nona the Ninth.)

So I was desperately trying to get a grip on quarks for unrelated reasons, and to my utter shock:

The Eightfold Way????

Okay, so the obvious referent for the Eightfold Word in TLT is also the Buddhist Eightfold Path. The Lyctoral Megatheorem is an eight-step process pitched to the Lyctors as a path to ascension, so it seems super likely that's the allusion Jod is making.

However!

As much as Jod's propaganda & image is so spiritual/religious, he and the Lyctors were, at heart, theoretical scientists trying to crack the fundamental energy relationships between the components of soul & body.

How like Jod, the megalomaniacal scientist, to co-opt the term Eightfold exactly like a real-world physicist already did when studying elementary particles. (Also Jod would probably know what a quark is lmao.) An allusion to an allusion, maybe?

Some notable similarities:

^^ The real-world eightfold way was an almost-there model, short of the complete solution--just like the Lyctoral Megatheorem that produced the Lyctors, but failed to achieve the mutual immortality of a Grand Lysis or whatever tf Jod and Alecto had going on! Speaking the Eightfold Word is actually where Jod claims Anastasia tripped up, when in fact she was so close to achieving perfect Lyctorhood that he had to stop her.

^^ the eightfold way is an incomplete model in which one of the key failures was not incorporating a NINTH particle into the meson organizational scheme!! Instead, they were arranged as a group of eight and one isolated meson. There's something there about Anastasia being the only failed Lyctor, (and maybe a missing ninth step), but just in general, come on, the Ninth???? Underestimating and neglecting the Ninth House is like, a lethal oversight over and over in the books.

Now, if I were Tamsyn this would all be more than enough for me to use the term, but if anyone who knows more about physics can think of any other similarities I'd love to hear about them!!
