Cartoon Network Friday Spotlight: "Rabbit Rampage"
Chuck Jones made "Duck Amuck" in 1953, possibly his opus, one of the cleverest and most creative cartoons of all time. Despite man vs creator being a common theme in the years since, the short feels as fresh as it ever did, not to mention entertaining.
While Jones loved to experiment, he knew what paid the bills and wasn't afraid of treading familiar water in between more unique projects. Hell, it's a famous bit of trivia that he sped up production on a Road Runner short to allow his crew the extra time needed to perfect "What's Opera, Doc?" So it shouldn't be much of a surprise that he returned to the concept of "Duck Amuck" a couple of years later with "Rabbit Rampage".
There are two notable differences here, however. First of all, instead of wily every man Daffy, the traditionally much calmer Bugs is the one having his feather (or I guess fur) ticked, and this time, he knows the instigator, while Daffy couldn't quite look up. Although the gags are largely different here and Bugs is subjected to less pain, the beats are similar, as Bugs does everything he can to stop the rogue animator from making this short subject hell.
The problem here is that as great of a character Bugs is, at the end of the day he doesn't have the versatility Daffy is known for. We watch Bugs Bunny to see the oppressed fight back, while Daffy is an agent of chaos noted for being anything he wants to be. I think that's why Daffy feels more like Bugs' equal in recent years than anyone, especially as the hype for Tweety and Taz that made Warner billions in the 90s have died down. Seeing Bugs struggle to punch up doesn't land as well.
Also, the twist at the end, as cathartic as it initially seems, doesn't quite work. But hey, if this appeals to you, I highly recommend picking up the second Looney Tunes Collector's Choice Blu-Ray, as the cartoon looks stunning!

The thrones in Starry Love are interesting - Kazuma's sitting in a throne of swords, Hokuto has a prominent broken clock face behind him, Riku's seems to be a sun with fire motifs, Shogo has a bookshelf, Takahide is surrounded with musical instruments and gear, etc.
Maybe when I'm less exhausted I can ramble or something.
