Date: Thursday May 16th Album: Rat Taxi Artist: Louie Zong Released: 2024 Genre: Funk Review: Bops all the way down. Listened to this bad boy on the way to work, backlit but the rumble of subway ambiance. Got to watch a rat brawl with another over a bagel at the station, which feels incredibly appropriate all things considered. Zong has a delightful bounce to his music despite the genre, a playful quality that persists throughout his forays into other, jazzier genres. Here, that brings to mind a hard-boiled cartoon character, just serious enough to get you intrigued without sacrificing the silliness. Favorite Track: Dumpster Disco

3 ships / First ever ship: So this is an awkward one - I don't think I really have shipping impulses? That said, Terra Ignota's Carlyle/Dominic dynamic managed to capture my obsession like nothing else ever did, so I guess that's as fine an answer as any.

Last song: For increasingly strict standards of what counts as a 'song' we've got Neuchatel from Mad Rat Dead, I Expect You To Die 2's opening theme, Louie Zong's Wizard Disco, and Carpenter Brut's The Widow Maker.

Last movie: Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise, a 1987 anime movie by some of the people who'd later work on Evangelion, set in a fictional and lovingly worldbuilt universe that's going through its own space race.

Currently reading: Just finished reading Convenience Store Woman and going to head into either Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth or Auel's Clan of the Cave Bear next.

Currently watching: I don't watch a lot of tv but my partner has introduced me to Futurama, and I'm having a blast so far.
