Lord Ravenhurst, The Court Jester (1955)
Portrayed by: Basil Rathbone
"You know how much of a joy it is to watch the one human person in a story full of muppets? That’s Ravenhurst. A delightfully camp villain trying desperately to win his political intrigue movie not realizing until far too late it’s been infiltrated by (literal) clowns. Also the way he’s so down bad for Hawkins before realizing Hawkins is not a dashing suave assassin who will help him get what he wants? -chef’s kiss- I could watch their sword fight all damn day. Ravenhurst is just so delightfully evil in comparison to Hawkins’s bumbling heroics that it makes both of them an absolute treat to watch. Have you not seen Court Jester? Go watch it. Get it? Got it. Good."
“The Player”, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (1990)
Portrayed by: Richard Dreyfuss

Ravenhurst vs. Hubert Hawkins Full Swordfight
“DILF RIGHTS!!!!! look at his nose. look at his vile expression. he was 60 somethin’ in this movie, and I’d still go down on him any day”
(+ Bonus Hubert Hawkins)
“Every time I watch this beloved movie, I find myself thinking: "Good god, look at Basil Rathbone's CALVES." Also, from a meta standpoint, I think it is extremely sexy of a man to play a role that is essentially spoofing the roles he was famous for 20 years earlier (and to still have calves like that.)”
"The "Socratic approach" is what you call starting an argument by asking questions. IS there an ESOTERIC ALLEGORY concealed in the apparently innocent legend of Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs? A religion based on The Goddess of Confusion? Is that the answer to my question?
This purple doublet is an excellent example of how costumes are altered and adapted for new productions.
The costume likely originated with the 1955 film The Court Jester, where Basil Rathbone wore it as Sir Ravenhurst, though it is possible that it came from an earlier production, as The Court Jester did recycle some of its costumes.
The piece was used again in the 1961 film Snow White and the Three Stooges, where Guy Rolfe wore it as Count Olga. The costume underwent alterations to give it the look of having slashed sleeves.
For my wonderful following who began their journey with me by reading my first fic "you kissed the clown"; the most of you know I was inspired by my favourite childhood movie: The Court Jester.
Plot: A former carnival performer, Hubert Hawkins (Danny Kaye) and maid-captain Jean (Glynis Johns), are assigned to protect the infant royal heir from tyrannical King Roderick I (Cecil Parker).
While Jean takes the baby to an abbey, Hawkins gains access to the court by impersonating the king's jester, unaware that the jester is really an assassin hired by scheming Sir Ravenhurst (Basil Rathbone). When Princess Gwendolyn (Angela Lansbury), falls for Hawkins, a witch secretly aids him in becoming a knight.
Tropes: friends to lovers, failing forward, clueless blumbering idiot man x strong forward-thinking woman, hopeless romantic, witchcraft, humour, sword fighting.
Mid-writing, I expressed that I had the intention of getting a tattoo to express my love for the movie, and my love the pitiful black-fox jester played by Danny Kaye.
This was the clip I showed my beautiful artist (who is a one-piece fan), and he interpreted it so wonderfully.
It's still very raw and it'll soften a touch over time, but I adore it 🥹. It looks like a d&d module, and I love it.
He also tattooed me beneath an emotional support Luffy, so that was beautiful.
Happy New Year 🖤

"The whirlpools that swirl in a direction opposed to the main current are called "enclaves". And one of them is life, especially human life, which in a universe moving inexorably towards chaos moves towards increased order."
Das ist die Geschichte von Wednesday Addams - einem Mädchen, das zwar im Schatten wandelte, aber das Licht in den Herzen derjenigen entzündete, die bereit waren, hinter die düstere Fassade zu blicken;
Unordinary Court Jester AU. Is this anything. Isen is Hubert Hawkins. Giacomo is John, Griswold is Blyke, Ravenhurst is Cecile, the king is Arlo, Gwendolyn is Remi, Jean is... idk, Sera? Elaine? (tho Elaine as Griselda... but then relationship wise it would make more sense that Gwen is Sera), and in the end it's revealed it was just Isen making up crack in the Safe House while Blyke tries to interrupt all the time.
