#Referenced the style of one of my favourite artists for this

Can I ask a question? I like your sanders sides a lot and you give them a lot of personality in their designs! How do you make them like that? Or I guess I mean, what inspires you to make them the way that you do? I want to draw the sides but I'm not sure how to start other than their canon designs!

Oh my goodness I LOVE this question! For me, it's all about the feelings you get when you see them and the vibes I want to express. The Sides embody, to me, more than an aesthetic it should also encompass personality, role, and intention. In other words, I match their aesthetics to their function and the intent of what I feel like Thomas originally intended for them for their first short videos before they were actual sides.

Let us pick Roman, because even though people say he's not, he tends to be everyone's favourite to reblog fro me because he's pretty.

So I started by drawing him exactly as he was and to me he felt flat- in the show he's exactly as he should be but I am an artist and to me he feels more than what he looks like- it's dreamy, it's romantic, it's like he's giving childhood favouritre Disney Prince vibes, you know?

Inspiration 1: Prince Phillip

Hands down the biggest inspiration comes from him because he IS my favourite disney prince. Just looks a the hair swoop and the eyelashes- perfect. So I went ok my favourite Disney Prince is Phillip, let's start here. Before the CGI movies, there was such a romantic feeling about classic Disney princess movies and I've always loved the romantic feeling of Sleeping Beauty. The backgrounds are stunning, the way she's animated makes my bi ass give heart eyes and I loved that he was the only prince at the time who had a personality (until Beast but that's a whole other can of worms because he started out as an asshole/grumpy). I feel like modern Disney movies miss a lot of the romantic dreamy feeling of the older 2d movies because there was such care into the painted backgrounds being LESS realistic and more a fabulous idea of what a background should be and AHA! MORE INSPIRATION~! Let's make Roman a fabulous romantic idea of what a prince should be!

Inspiration 2: Faerietale Knights in Shining Armour

Our ideas of medieval knights are nothing like actual knights which are more reminiscent of hired military and enforcers. Our ideas of faerietale knights in shining armour are brave knights who would go off to kill a dragon to show their devotion to the one they love. Sword fighting heroes- is that not Roman if not an idealized romantic "royal knight wants to win the heart of the love with courageous deeds, acts of chivalry, selfless devotion" etc. Prince Phillip is a good model of this. Defeats a dragon and true love's kiss saves the day. A perfect romantic dream isn't it? Realistic? No of course not, but Roman isn't realistic he's creativity and romance which absolutely ignores practicality for the dream.

So we have this culmination of dreamy romantic disney prince and faerietale influence.

Now it's about aesthetics- Roman is reds and golds and whites, all royal colours typically associated with bravery, lineage, and strength and purity etc.

Inspiration 3: Media referencing

So let's find some movie or media equivalence I can reference. They came mostly in the forms of Narnia and Once Upon a Time.

So some aesthetic inspirations for belts and textures, missing the epaulets.... so to military garb!

Inspiration 4: Russian royals

Let's face it no one does embellishments like this any more <3

Inspiration 5: Lions

Roman's colours being red gold and white give me lion inspiration too so I looked up royal lion iconography as well (which ended up with a lot of lion king in the search because this was before AI but like.... it's not incorrect and the wavy flowy mane acted like hair. If Hamlet with lions is inspiring then use it, right? that have some AMAZING lion king-style artists on deviantart to get inspired by, it's a whole thing, mad respect) But ANYWAYS it gave me some cool stuff to be inspired by too.

Inspiration 6: Classic Golden Age Hollysood Leading Ladies (Note that this isn't femme fatales, because for Janus I used femme fatales as inspiration)

I knew that I just HAD to give Roman that Marilyn Monroe beauty mark, yes he paints it on every day yes it's in the same spot every day yes it's necessary.

Ultimately this culminated in a checklist of things that I wanted for him:

He must give the feeling of Prince Phillip in disney prince style

I wanted him to have flowey hair that makes him look softer and romantic and can be pulled up into a ponytail if necessary.

Must have a beauty mark and eyelashes that go on for ages reminiscent of old hollywood ladies, and let's throw in nail polish too.

I wanted him to have an outfit that would be his original but embellished to hell that can be like Narnia or OUaT in terms of texture and added stuff. It needed more gold, 100% needed epaulets (the shoulder things with the dangly rstuff), and it needed a belt where a sword could be attached. Danglies not always necessary, but look really good when done and is reminiscent of old fashioned military garb and Russian royalty.

He needed to look like he's used to wearing this outfit every single day and going out of his way to do so.

Ended up with this:

So yeah that's how I got to his design!

a hades and persephone myth retelling in which hades is a skeleton, stripped of his godhood and powers, and persephone is a newly bloomed wife in search of her missing mother.

it was nearly impossible for me to keep this under wraps, but i'm so IN LOVE with this gorgeous artwork i commissioned from one of my favourite artists: @silkanide! not only was she a dream to collaborate with on this project, but she put in so much research to ensure everything was accurate. from referencing ancient greek styles of dress, bone structure depicted in statues, and even enduring both my writing & personal blog to ensure she matched the aesthetic of the story.

it's very exciting to see hades and persehone as i pictured them in my head! i really recommend hiring @silkanideart if you'd like commissioned artwork of your OCs too! i can't wait to work with her again in the future.

Warmth leeches to him, hellfire a mere shadow in place of darkness, but he craves the intimacy of touch, of skin. When his skeletal hand cradles her thin, frost-kissed cheek, he can feel neither the bite of cold nor the tenderness of her beauty. 

“Persephone,” he says more strongly, the words urgent and shielded from his limitless anger, “I meant what I told you. What transpired in that forest will not happen to you. Whether I perish in this world, whether you rule alone, I will do anything to protect you. My servants will pledge their entire existence to guard you. You will never hurt, nor will anyone you love. No matter where that love goes, or who it passes onto. Now please… enough crying.” 

It kills him, such a thought, of another man keeping her tears at bay and whispering pledges into the nape of her throat. When Demeter’s magic succeeds, he’ll be nothing but a memory, the same as the stories the elders murmur of titans. He’ll be a gravestale, no more frightening than that skulking shadow Thanatos. No one dwells on the fury of a titan, grave-sent and near-forgotten. No one will dwell on him either. Not even her. 

Yet part of him wishes so desperately that she always will. 

He tilts her head back, thoughts greened by swirling envy. The teeth of his skull brush against the plain of her forehead; then her cheek, then her lips. She caresses his teeth gently, mimicking a kiss. 

“She hurts because of us.” 

“She grieves because of me.” The blame belongs on his shoulders alone, burdenless to carry when she tries to adopt some of it. “She can’t see beyond her despair, which is why it’s so prudent that we find her. That she… knows that healing is possible.” 

“How, Hades? How will this get better? If she thinks I belong to you once this curse resolves, she won’t stop. She’ll end the entire world to get me back.”

“I sympathize,” he notes demurely. 

“Be reasonable,” Persephone says, sighing as the tears slow down her cheeks. 

“As reasonable as I can,” Hades agrees. “We share a vision of the world, Demeter and I. To lose you now that I’ve called you my own?" Her turns away instinctively, still cautious of any anger trying to take shape on his faceless skull. "What matters to me—the only thing that matters—is that you want your mother. It's simple, darling girl. Your mother you will have.” 

He feels her slacken in his arms then.

In the end, all Hades can hope is that Demeter will see reason and justice, not a memory sharpened by her brother’s trickery. Disgusted that such antics seemed to belong in Zeus’s realm, yet it was Zeus who comforted Demeter and brought her the child—now Hades' wife, his undoing.

Persephone, her hair kissed by Helios, glimmering and haloed, attempts to wipe away all evidence of her tears with the back of her dirt-smudged hands.

“I don’t want her to think that you would do such a thing.” 

“You’re not to clear your mother’s misunderstandings,” Hades says firmly. “Whatever resentments she carries for me are for me alone. For me to challenge myself. You’re her daughter, not my forsaken lawyer.” 

"But she's not going to want to listen to you! Just as my father wouldn't listen. And those wretched twins."

"I suspect she'll lose respect for both of us if I hide behind you to clear my name of something you weren't alive to witness."

"Just because she doesn't carry lightning bolts, doesn't mean she won't cause you immeasurable pain—"

Hades tilts his head down, as if to study his body.

"You needn't worry about me ever making such a mistake again," he agrees.

His young wife smiles then, the sight still unfamiliar to him. Like it should be reserved only for portraits or the attention of anyone else.

"I love you." They're the only words he can think to say in that moment, even if she doesn't answer them. Where they once stayed safely hidden, refuged in the deep, strangling darkness of his bones, now pruned free the more the worst of him rots away.

“Have we laid this to rest?” Hades says. "We should go. Lest we run into another damn monster who's forsaken his king."

Persephone takes his green, mossy hand between her warm, pearled fingers. Deep in the grave of his rib cage, a strange pulse drums against his bones.

How often do you read fics/browse fanfics? And do you have any favourite fics?

Do you have any particular artists you look to for inspiration or learning from their style?

i am a 🔥 hardcore 🔥 fanfic reader 🔥 Jokes aside I'm one of Those people who will clean out the tag for a show/media i have never, and will never, ever see.

I successfully (accidentally) gaslit a group of my friends into thinking I played p5 via my foolproof method - reading tons of fics and cross-referencing the consistencies~!

(fear not i have actually played p5 (royal!) since then sjkdkfja) My favorite fic of all time is indeed marigolds by colbub. It's no contest. My other favorites are usually gen ff7 time travel fic. Naruto fic also. Those authors are always going insano style and I love that for them.

Naturally I've been elbow deep in ISAT fic lately through! As evidenced by the massive rec list I just put out jskdfjks ---- For artists, my inspirations are very many and change very, very fast.

To avoid not giving any answers at all though, I will mention that Sevenchiart was very inspirational to me a few years ago (and now too of course!) when I started drawing seriously.

I am not the greatest at explaining things or giving advice. These tips are just what many artists have already said and points that *I* personally agree with or have helped *me*. The reason why I am putting emphasis on myself is because everyone is different so what helps *me* might not help you. These things you will have to figure out yourself, BUT there are many MANY art tutorials from different artists with different styles so maybe you can find something there! Anyways moving on-

Don‘t think too much and just DOODLE DOODLE AND MORE DOODLING

I am serious, turn that brain off and start doodling. I had this mental barrier for sometime (that I am still struggling with) where I just didn‘t feel confident in my art and didn‘t even wanna START drawing, bc I felt like everything sucked ass. But just turning that brain off and mindlessly doodling is so SO great because it doesn‘t have to be perfect or anything AND through the repeating motions of sketching you‘re training your hand to become better at making nice smooth strokes. Sketching mindlessly is honestly very theraputic for me, cuz I just get to have silly fun. There‘s no pressure in doing things. AND sometimes doodling mindlessly can lead to great ideas.

Tracing/Referencing

Ik there‘s lots of discourse about tracing and referencing in the art community, but I can only tell you that this has been extremely helpful for me and getting my anatomy right. While tracing helps getting the placements of body parts and lines right, referencing really helps train your eyes what to look for. You‘ll start to recognize familiar shapes that are prevalent in almost all body types or certain things that are almost always there in nature. Tracing can also help you get more familiar in the way that you draw certain things. These techniques are all about familiarizing yourself with whatever you‘re trying to draw (bodies, faces, landscapes etc) and engraving it into your mind. Ofc if you decide to post something where you traced or referenced something it‘s always good to show your sources, but this is mostly something to do in private.

Take breaks, treat yourself with something nice :)

Art can be tiring, so be sure to always ALWAYS take breaks when you feel like its about to get frustrating and maybe eat something, do something else to replenish that art juice, yeah? Breaks can last however long you want. Whats most important is that you won‘t start hating the process cuz this shit can be mentally taxing so breaks are super important. Even if the break takes a year or something, art can always wait and its not like you‘ll immediately forget all your skills that you have gained yk? Maybe you‘ll get rusty but muscle memory is one hell of a thing. You‘ll get the hang of it in no time!

Get shiggy wiggy with it

What I mean by this is to just have fun. Art is supposed to be enjoyable, so I say go crazy, go stupid with it. Like who gives a shit if its stupid or cringe? Just have fun! Don‘t let someone ruin the fun in art for you, okay? These people stink anyway smh my head… they just don‘t understand the joy of creating a beautiful art piece about ur favourite charaters doing dumb shit or kissing each other. (Just uh… don‘t get illegal with it)

Get obsessed with something. I am very serious about this

Unironically, getting obsessed with a character or franchise has helped me a lot to keep being motivated to draw. Like a character that just makes you so so happy that you just keep drawing them (I mean, look at me 💀), which goes back to the first point. Being obsessed with something can keep you drawing something for a long time. And it gives you a big ass serotonin boost. However-

Try something new!

Drawing the same thing over and over again is great, but it can get stagnant really quick. So sometimes you have to try something new, stuff that might be difficult or things you aren‘t really confident yet (like hands. Yeah I know, its a nightmare). Doing this will make your skillset much bigger and may deepen your understanding on how stuff works cuz this art stuff is really interconected. Like, if you know one thing then maybe you can also do the other.

Take it slow. Be easy on yourself

There is ALWAYS this constant need to improve. Especially on social media, where artists are expected to improve in lightning speeds or post the perfect art pieces (and tbh some of these might be self imposed too). But you really, you don‘t. Just enjoy it at your own pace, be proud of the stuff you made. Save it, keep it and look back on it to see how much you‘ve improved. Don‘t view art as something you need to be perfect at, but just as something that makes you happy. An outlet for your feelings. Something to do when you‘re bored. Or stuff like that, cuz it‘s really not that serious UNLESS you want it to be like a job or something. So be patient, because art is a marathon, not a sprint. There is no need to hurry.

Aannddd if you wanna be able to draw Sin specifically then channel your inner whimsical creature, become jolly, be silly and get shiggy wiggy with it :)))

five favourite painters? thank you!! <333

Gustav Klimt. Basic answer I know, but he was the first painter baby me recognized as having a distinct style that I fell in love with and wanted to emulate and I've never stopped loving his art into adulthood. My favourite painting of his (The Kiss doesn't count) is Judith and the head of Holofernes <3 I inherited a couple of tea-tins with his paintings on them from my eldest sister and they're some of my most prized possessions.

Edvard Munch. Part of it is definitely nationalistic pride, but Munch's paintings resonate with and move me regardless of the fact that he's one of the world's greatest painters AND Norwegian. For years I've had a goal of aquiring decent quality canvas prints of Vampyr and hanging them in my apartment, but it's something I'm saving for THEE apartment iykwim. His Madonna is framed in my bookshelf <3

Christian Krohg. Not only a brilliant Norwegian painter but writer as well, and a true pioneer and bohemian. Him and Amalie Skram are my favourite artists within the Norwegian Naturalist movement (apropos nothing, one of his paintings is referenced in one of my favourite Norwegian films: "Syk Pike".)

Augustus Edwin John. Seven Pillars gang will know why <3 I love his oil portraiture but it's his pencil scetches that I love the most, one T.E Lawrence one in particular. He had a gift for capturing characters and essences with very few strokes of the graphite.

Harald Sohlberg. His series Vinternatt i Rondane is the most beautiful and evocative series of nature-paintings ever made and perfectly captures the feeling of a dark, starry, ice-cold night in the Norwegian mountains. They're sensory and nostalgic and his greatest work.

the first ideas for his "modern design" (he's been around and recycled for a loooong time). the pose in the top right hand corner is taken from @/hiraethminds! they are a very cool artist and inspire me a lot. though the grey-ish tones as the major colour goes away I still really like the centipede tattoo, centipedes are rad as fuck and you can't tell me otherwise

I started to play with the idea of a goat design for him here! which is strange because like. that's not even his main design or motif or anything, I just really liked the idea I guess LMAO also Aurelai belongs to my mate of the same name! she's not on tumblr (yet) but you should still like her because she's cool and awesome

a treat for my qsmp enjoyers!! an unfinished short comic I sketched on the day tallulah lost her first life. the other characters in this are my old ocs, don't even worry about them

I straight up just have the image that inspired me in this one. its by @/sss-eriema and it was a gift from GOD. I was trying to sort out the colours and wanted to incorporate both orange (my favourite colour) and green (my close second favourite colour) but wasn't having much luck. eriema's artwork showed me that it can work in a more muted way and it was very very helpful!!

I started to get the colours down in the bottom right corner!! I really like this sketch page honestly. some bonus self portrait sketches because I wanted to try and put some more of my own features into his design as my sona! also in the notes I was debating between the two eye shapes and I'm still thinking about it. I think the bottom ones fit his personality more and are way more expressive but I just like the Vibe of the top ones

then I realised. nimbus-BUGS. bugs! what if bug? this was a really fun study for using more creature features that I wasn't used to! loving the mandibles tbh

my most recent sketch as of posting! I might update this later, but this sketch page is probably the most gratuitously referenced, the expressions in the bottom left and top right were basically ripped from @/microwavablesquid so if you like those please check them out! the basic design structure of the full body was referenced from @/aresonist, retroactively I realised a lot of my design choices. uh. they also made LMAOOO so if my design in General tickles your brain, follow them!

as for his lore and basic information for what he actually Is, uhhh. ??? I don't know HAHAHA he's a little guy! he's creature! is he human? probably not but no one could say for sure! is he bugs? is he 1000 bugs in a trenchcoat? sometimes he's goat I guess??? I can never decide on a design and I think that aids his cryptid-like habits. he shows up sometimes, vibes and can't die in a way that matters! he has a running motif of my fake-God-thing, the centipede ouroboros, so I was like "what if he was a harbinger of the ouroboros, what then." and I like to imagine he has video game logic where when he dies, he basically respawns. also weirdly it's worked out in a way where he has lots of biblical motifs, like my name is literally nimbus, like the halo, and he's a messenger of a god like some fucked up blorbo angel. also lily of the valley is my favourite flower and I like drawing him with it, it also has lots of symbolism in the bible?? wild.

I sincerely doubt it but if you guys have any questions about nim or want to draw him or anything I would Die. I would just keel over. you'd take me out.

🥺🥺😆! Thank you so much! This was honestly one of the nicest asks I have ever received. I am not lying when I say my eyes were watering and I nearly squealed (despite being on public transport at the time!)

So... I've never really thought about my art process much, but to try and explain/ explore it, I recorded a time-lapse of a drawing of Midna I was doing.

So, the way I draw is quite paint-y, which is my favourite way to draw digitally, and I use primarily the oil paint brush for the painting, with pen and more defined brushes - round mixing brush or turnip pen as an example - for bits I want to add on top (eg, eyes and jewellery). More recently, I've been using a pencil tool (like pencil or charcoal tools) to pop lines over the image to define it a bit more.

I would advise - as I did not do here! - to choose where the lighting is coming from, because it results in a far more coherent image, but I rarely do that... 😅

Trying to figure out the planes of the face was a massive help to me artistically, so referencing images from Arcane and stuff like that, where the parts of the face are really emphasised has been useful when trying to learn how to do the paint-y style.

For backgrounds, I am ordinarily a plain colour/ suggestion of a setting with the subject of the image as the main focus.

Sometimes, as I did with this one, I use a layer of black to point the attention to one particularly area. I liked the eyes, and wanted to emphasise them most.

I've never drawn Midna before, hence the sketches at the start trying to get comfortable with her vibe!

The Invincible Iron Man #17

(spoilers!!!!!)

This is an issue I've been looking forward to reading ever since I saw the cover.

And the preview had got me even more excited because the first page paid homage to one of my favourite issues of iron man ever (Iron Man #232). I was also filled with some amount of trepidation because when a writer/artist references something that's nearly perfect and got it wrong, it has the power to change our feelings about the thing they're referencing. I'm relieved to say that that hasn't happened due to today's issue. Much like when Iron Man #182 was referenced in issue #8, Duggan actually succeeded in making a reference while adding to and not subtracting from Tony's life story.

The theme in today's issue was guilt, same as in the issue it paid homage to. The cause of Tony's guilt is the same, too, but I'm also glad to say that it wasn't a facsimile of im #232, which makes it feel real, like this is something Tony experiences quite a bit and isn't just the writer writing whatever for nostalgia.

I love that Zhong Wei was the one to talk to him about the death Tony left in his wake. While he is a very new character who was only created during this run, I feel like he's one of the most important, not only as a person who always tried to do the right thing or as someone tony trusted with his company (something that is so personal to him) but also, this is the first time in forever that we got to see Tony being a good boss, a person who wanted to make a difference and kept people who also wanted to do that around. It gives me hope for Tony starting a company again and actually running it and treating his employees with respect and all the things he was supposed to do but didn't since 2008 or so.

And while I'm still not fully sold on Magneto being a part of Tony's life, I have to admit that this was pretty good.

And about Howard: I can practically see all the posts about how this run is treating him too well and everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I really liked that Tony's first reaction to seeing his father again was to explain himself, to feel badly about himself & talk about how he has done better. Tony, who never cares about what people think about him or whether they approve, reduced to this:

I also love that Howard started out being nice and reassuring (the first thing he said to his son being "Boy, you're a lot of work", though.....I have thoughts and they aren't generous at all) and then, without warning, becoming this scary, inhuman being who buried him alive makes so much sense when we remember that this is what Tony thinks about him - not his anger or his harshness or anything else: his unpredictability was what bothered him the most, what literally made him see human beings differently from most people.

Also, Tony coming to his senses at exactly this moment was interesting.

The next part of this issue was great, too, in a different way. The armour looks so much better in this art style and without the helmet on and I really liked the invisible shield and tony's dialogue during fights has been a highlight of this run for me, as weird as it sounds, because he actually sounds like himself (the righteous anger!!). I was hoping that he'd mention Zhong Wei and Marielle Marcus and wasn't disappointed. The twist towards the end was....how did Orchis not see that coming? (Selfishly, I'm hoping for Hank to somehow get involved in this storyline).

Magneto is in the next issue but I'm more excited about this:

what does it all mean?? is he going to have a heart problem again? Is something somehow related to Mike Grell's run going to happen?

~I design my own clothing and this particular garment took a lot of planning, rare and precious materials, and my best tailor to fully manifest it. In the future I may share more of my wardrobe/designs that none of you have seen.

~As for music where to even begin…. There’s a lot of music native to the Underground I’m very fond of but none of you will know what I’m referencing…. As for Aboveground music there’s so much….. I’ve heard as of late Kate Bush is popular again. She’s an artist I’ve admired from the beginning. Harry Styles has taken me by surprise and I’ve enjoyed his recent work. Caroline Polachek, LP, and Florence + The Machine are a few more contemporary artists I’ve been listening to a lot as of late. But my list of musical interests is vast and very long.

TRANSFORMING THIS INTO A FASHION ILLUSTRATION

Challenging myself to reflect on this style and input it into a fashion illustrative style, I created this illustration primarily in the style of Jamie Lee Reardin and Meadham Kirchnoff. I really enjoyed the unfinished look which both illustrators use within their style, using a messier effect to generate a beautiful outcome. Using facial features from Jamie Lee Reardin to experiment with facial elements, I then used the colour scheme from my bed designs in the style of Meadham Kirchnoff to demonstrate this clear link between the inspiration. Additionally, I used lots of green tones using pro marker to emphasise the link to the “pea”, as well as using colours relating to my illustrations. I then decided to incorporate elements of my original artist, Julie Rouvierie, through using fine liner to outline pieces, however I interpreted this through a messier style to compliment the other artists work I have referenced through my work. Overall a very fun illustration which also quickened my pace using pro markers, as i typically use them in a more detailed way, therefore it was great to experiment using a messier style whilst still using elements of shading. Probably one of my favourite fashion illustrations I have generated so far, due to it being so diverse and unique from all of my previous illustrations.

Research of Contemporary Artists and Artists relating to this project:

For the first one I found this post on DeviantArt about limited colour palettes. A person called Riemea wrote about the uses of different colours and also referenced a few artists WITHOUT GIVING THE CREDIT OR LINKS TO THEIR WORK. I liked the pieces they were showing on their post but I don’t think they actually drew all of these but I cannot for the life of me find the original artists.

I found these rather funny drawings that Ringo Starr from The Beatles has sold for millions. I like them because they are funny but interesting. I honestly had no idea that Ringo had delved into the art world but he has since 2005.

I also found this artist named Stanley Chow who created limited colour palette pieces of different celebrities. I quite like the angular shapes of his style and thought it might be useful to use in my stamp set. Quite a nice simplistic style that I may use for my stamp set.

I decided to look at artists that have illustrated stamps and came across Leonard Fryer who illustrates these limited colour stamps with different crosshatching and stippling methods. I put this here because it is interesting to see the way he has illustrated stamps and gives me something to refer to when creating my own set with an aesthetic theme.

I then discovered Stephen Fowler who creates his own rubber stamps with lino printmaking and prints them on paper. He has made quite a lot of books showing his process. I quite like the colour scheme he uses, very primary with red, yellow and blues.

Next I had a look at the contemporary illustations by Damien Hirst to get a sense of different styles I could use for my stamp set. I think Damien’s work would also work as a stamp set but that is up to him, not me.

This next artist is from Ireland and he creates stained glass illustrations that I think are just really stunning. His work has a very final fantasy concept art feel to it.

David Hockney is one of the most influencial artists of the 20th century who has a very cubism/pop art style. I always loved the pop art movement. I think David’s colour palettes are so vibrant and eye catching especially for me who’s own eye is extremely drawn to things that are very vibrant.

Sean Scully is an American painter, printmaker and sculptor who creates these bizarre block colour paintings. I find them quite interesting and I might use this as an idea when I create my set of stamps. I like the way he makes sure the colours work together as a palette.

One of my all time favourite artists for good measure. Gu Zheng Wei, a Chinese artist who creates gorgeous and in-depth digital art pieces for Ghost in The Shell and other major movie/motion-pictures. He is more of a concept artist and designer which I want to be rather than contemporary illustrator. He was inspired by anime and his art looks like Final Fantasy.

When Minghao said the location for your next date was a surprise, you didn't hold many expectations, preferring to keep it a complete mystery until the day arrived. But as you stared out the car window and recognized the route to the museum a city over, you realized you probably should've anticipated this from the way your boyfriend was so excited for the date last night.

You quirked an eyebrow his way, which he caught in the corner of his eye, smiling sheepishly in response.

"Weren't we just here a few months ago?"

"Yes — but! One, there's a new exhibit that I'm sure you're going to love and two, they added a section of paintings and I wanted to see them with you." He replied eagerly, guilt seeping into his voice.

"Okay, okay," You conceded, placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "I wasn't complaining, I can't wait to see what you have in store."

"I promise it will be amazing."

You knew Minghao had a plan in mind, but you couldn't help getting distracted along the way, especially when you're always finding something new that you haven't notice before.

He never uttered a word of complaint, and simply followed you with a small smile on his face.

Walking in a room full of statues that were much taller than you were, you craned your neck as you examined the small details put into their beauty.

"Hey, this guy looks kind of funny," You pointed out, gesturing at a statue that pictured the final battle cry of a famous warrior. Moving into a similar pose, you put on your angriest face and tried to recreate the statue. You paid no mind to the other museum-goers passing by.

Minghao stifled a laugh. "Wait, stay like that, I want to take a picture of you." He said, pulling out his phone and swiping to the camera.

"Okay," You said through gritted teeth, trying to keep as still as possible.

"But move over a little to the left."

You did just that, shuffling to the side stiffly.

"And make your face even angrier." He called out a few seconds later.

Though your cheeks were getting sore and it already felt like you're being the angriest you could possibly be, you did your best to furrow your eyebrows even further. The corner of your lips tugged downwards.

"No, even angrier!"

"Minghaooo!" You pouted, stomping your foot in frustration. "I'm doing my best!"

In the midst of your small outburst, you heard the faint click of the camera shutter and your boyfriend tucked his phone away with a smile. "I know you were, just wanted to tease you."

You stared at him, mouth agape as you tried to comprehend what just happened. "Are you saying I did all of that for nothing?"

"Don't worry, I got the actual picture too, so your efforts didn't go to waste I promise." To make up for it, Minghao came over and planted a kiss on your forehead. "You're really cute, you know?"

You squinted your eyes at him, still suspicious. "If you say so..."

He smiled and gave you another kiss, trying to prove his good intentions. "I would never lie about that. Let's continue, shall we?"

There were many reasons why you loved the museum.

It was the first place Minghao took you to after he (finally) mustered the courage to ask you out. Things were awkward and shy and blushy, but memories were made and you left with a kiss on the cheek that you wouldn't forget.

Now, everything was familiar, it was like a second home to you, with how often Minghao loved to visit for inspiration. There were so many little things that simply made your mind at ease.

It was the way your footsteps echoed in the large room. The sense of peace and comfort. The smell of old paper and faint traces of flowers. The intricate patterns etched into the white walls and marble flooring.

But most of all, it was Minghao's hands gently laced into yours.

He walked ahead of you, tugging you along as he steered from one artwork to the next. Although you had happily followed him along on this museum date, you knew he was the one who was enjoying it the most. He's been here many times now while you have only visited on a few occasions — enough to be familiar with the building. But you didn't mind turning the same corner multiple times or reading the same passage over and over again. Because no matter how mundane the activity may seem to other people, a sparkle of excitement was constant in Minghao's eyes.

And seeing him happy made you just as happy.

"It's extra quiet in here." You whispered, feeling the need to match the atmosphere of the room you just entered in.

The walls were covered in paintings, surrounding a statue in the middle. The multitude of artworks screamed talent as they made their presence obvious, and yet there was an eerie sense of loneliness. Aside from the two of you, the only other people here was an old woman, silently reading the description of the statue and one of the staff in the corner.

"It is," Minghao agreed, taking in the sight. "I think that's why this is gonna be my favourite section to visit. Come."

He pulled you to one of the nooks where a small canvas hung. It was covered in hues of pink, bleeding into the charcoal sketches that were left unkept. Then there were streaks of yellows that contrasted the pice and yet blended perfectly into the medley of colours.

It was, to put it simply, beautiful.

"I did some reading about this artist before," Minghao said. "They said that they painted this with a heart full of love."

"Is that so..." You hummed, rocking back and forth on your heels as you examined the painting. You paused when it suddenly felt all too familiar.

"Wait a minute. Weren't you painting something similar to this when we first met?"

As with any other story, there was a time where the two of you were mere strangers, randomly passing by each other on a busy day.

You had a feeling Minghao was purposefully guiding you to this conclusion, but he still blushed after being called out. "Yes it was, I was trying to recreate their style. But to be honest, I didn't know what to paint until I saw you across the street one day. Better yet, you were always there when I went to the park to paint, so it felt like the perfect piece to make. You showed me what love meant."

"That's so cheesy, but I love it." You giggled.

The grip on your hand got tighter. "You really saved me on that day, you know? I don't know where I would be if I hadn't met you."

"But we're here now, aren't we?" You replied gently, pressing yourself closer to his side. "That's all that matters, we don't need to care about the could haves."

"You're right." His gaze on the painting softened as the two of you stared at it in awe for a while longer, simply taking in its beauty and the memories it carried along with it.

When you finally left the room, hands still glued to each other, you poked his arm and sent him a teasing grin. "Next time we visit, I'll be seeing one of your paintings on here, right?"

"Maybe," he nodded thoughtfully. For once, Minghao did not deny that possibility — a small change that warmed your heart greatly.

"Only if you could be the inspiration."

1. my birthday was (holy shit) a month ago tomorrow! march ninth and i always like to spend some time out with my friends for it! one of my fave memories is having a bonfire with all of them bc it was so simple and easy (except for when we lit things on fire that should not have been) but so fun
