Paleontologists discover fossils of new crocodile-like reptile species that lived 237 million years ago in Brazil
Tumblr media
Paleontologists have discovered a new species of ancient crocodile-like reptile that once roamed the lands and waters of Brazil.
The fossils, found in a fossiliferous locality named "Linha Várzea 2" in southern Brazil, have now been dubbed Parvosuchus aurelioi, a new ancient species of small predatory reptiles that date back approximately 237 million years ago, according to a paper published in Scientific Reports on Thursday.
The new species belongs to a group of crocodile-like reptiles called pseudosuchians and are the first "unequivocal" gracilisuchid, an extinct genus of tiny pseudosuchians, Rodrigo Müller, a paleontologist at the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria and lead author of the paper, told ABC News via email.
Before dinosaurs dominated the earth, pseudosuchians were a common form of reptile during the Triassic Period.

SpaceTime -- A brief history
SpaceTime is Australia’s most popular and respected astronomy and space science news program – averaging over two million downloads every year. We’re also number five in the United States.  The show reports on the latest stories and discoveries making news in astronomy, space flight, and science.  SpaceTime features weekly interviews with leading Australian scientists about their research.  The show began life in 1995 as ‘StarStuff’ on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) NewsRadio network.  Award winning investigative reporter Stuart Gary created the program during more than fifteen years as NewsRadio’s evening anchor and Science Editor.  Gary’s always loved science. He studied astronomy at university and was invited to undertake a PHD in astrophysics, but instead focused on his career in journalism and radio broadcasting. Gary’s radio career stretches back some 34 years including 26 at the ABC. He worked as an announcer and music DJ in commercial radio, before becoming a journalist and eventually joining ABC News and Current Affairs. He was part of the team that set up ABC NewsRadio and became one of its first on air presenters. When asked to put his science background to use, Gary developed StarStuff which he wrote, produced and hosted, consistently achieving 9 per cent of the national Australian radio audience based on the ABC’s Nielsen ratings survey figures for the five major Australian metro markets: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth.  The StarStuff podcast was published on line by ABC Science -- achieving over 1.3 million downloads annually.  However, after some 20 years, the show finally wrapped up in December 2015 following ABC funding cuts, and a redirection of available finances to increase sports and horse racing coverage.  Rather than continue with the ABC, Gary resigned so that he could keep the show going independently.  StarStuff was rebranded as “SpaceTime”, with the first episode being broadcast in February 2016.  Over the years, SpaceTime has grown, more than doubling its former ABC audience numbers and expanding to include new segments such as the Science Report -- which provides a wrap of general science news, weekly skeptical science features, special reports looking at the latest computer and technology news, and Skywatch – which provides a monthly guide to the night skies. The show is published three times weekly (every Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and available from the United States National Science Foundation on Science Zone Radio, and through both i-heart Radio and Tune-In Radio.

While crocodiles rely on the element of surprise for ambush hunting, it turns out they also like a good chat, says honours student Sonnie Flores of the University of the Sunshine Coast. "We know that crocodiles are the most vocal species of reptile," Ms Flores says. For her honours research, she's attempting to decode what the grunts, booms, growls, slaps and body vibrations of the Australian saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) mean. While there has been a fair bit of research done on American alligators, there isn't so much in the scientific literature on their Australian counterparts, says Ms Flores' honours supervisor, aquatic ecologist Ross Dwyer. "Crocodiles do this amazing thing: they pump up each of the little osteoderms — the little scales on their backs — like a piston. That creates a really low frequency which travels really far in the water. So we know they make this amazing selection of sound.”

for the abc ask game : energy, gear, involuntary, unusual, yuck, and zoo with pandora tce2 hehehe
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
E - What are their energy levels like while they're regressed?
Honestly? I don't see it as too different. Maybe a little bit higher, but Pandora I imagine is still very solitary and favors like, doing little activities by herself like stacking blocks or coloring flowers and stuff. She's not gonna be running all over the place, basically.
G - Do they have any regression gear?
Probably not? I'd imagine Pandora is very, very secretive about her regression, so she wouldn't be the type to buy things for it in case anyone found out. I'd imagine even in Redo, she'd be kind of scared to get caught with anything. Post-canon, I can see her looking into getting like, a blanket or something, but it would be very slow steps on her part.
Involuntary- Is their age regression through choice?
Generally not IMO. I'd imagine it's something that sort of ambushes her when she gets overwhelmed, whether for emotional or sensory reasons. I think over time, with a supportive enough environment, it's something she might be able to voluntarily slip into, but I'd imagine it's more on the involuntary side for her.
Unusual- What's 'different' about their age regression?
The wording on this one is vague so I am going to presume "different than when they're not regressed" and I think Pandora is a lot more expressive, generally! Insofar as I think her sort of reserved persona is, well, just that. An outward act she puts on, and I'd imagine while regressed she just... Wouldn't be able to maintain that and so she'd be a lot more emotive and fussy as a result.
As a side effect of that I think she'd be... A lot more willing to express discomfort with stuff than she normally is? Less bottling up her feelings so she's more willing to just. Say Things. She's very silly basically I love her :)
Yuck- Is there any part of their regression that they don't like or feel embarrassed about?
Tying into this I think Pandora is... Uncomfortable, with the vulnerability of it. I think she often tries to act Bigger than she is and prove that she's independent and a big kid a lot and is reluctant to accept help from others. It annoys her when she Can't Do Things, because she's used to doing most stuff on her own and on some level thinks of relying on other people as shameful.
I think that's probably something she'd also be able to improve on, but that would require a degree of openness from her that I... Don't see her easily coming to on her own. She's generally a very distrusting individual even while regressed.
Zoo- Any animal they like? Are they also a pet regressor?
I don't see her as a pet regressor, but tbh she would love cats. And also I think she'd like reptiles, like lizards and stuff too. She would love to have a book full of Cool Lizard Facts. She would find Cool Lizard Facts so compelling. And probably the same with Birds too. I think she just likes creatures tbh, in a sort of, enjoys memorizing weird trivia about them kind of way.

See You Later Alligator . . . Large Reptile on the Loose in New Jersey
When you think of animals that live in New Jersey, alligators certainly are not top of your mind. However, residents of Middlesex Borough have been on the lookout for one large gator in the area of Victor Crowell Park in the North Jersey town.
youtube
Experts believe that the alligator was originally a pet that was released when it became too big to care for. The alligator is estimated to be 3-4 feet long, according to ABC News.
The alligator has been causing trouble in the park since Friday, August 25, when it was first seen attacking a duck, according to a park visitor. Individuals who saw the duck attack described the events as “traumatic.”

On Saturday, police made an attempt to neutralize the alligator by firing shots into the water. Officials say they are unsure whether the attempt was successful or not.
According to Lt. Thomas Falk, local police are working with New Jersey’s Department of Fish and Wildlife “to develop a further plan of action.”. The alligator has not been found as of Wednesday morning. Victor Crowell Park has been closed and taped off to ensure the safety of local visitors.
Officials have asked residents of Middlesex Borough to avoid the park and not to try to capture the reptile. If anyone does see the alligator, they should contact the Middlesex Borough Police Department at 732-356-1900.
