Publisher PQube and developer Long Way Home have announced RESISTOR, a narrative-driven car racing RPG coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC via Steam. A release date was not announced.

Comparing to similar models suggests there's a carbon pile rheostat inside that yellow box, and if I have any trouble I now know how to open it up & make adjustments, but I won't do that until I can actually try sewing on this thing.
A rheostat, I just learnt, is a resistor (thing that makes it hard for electricity to get through) that's adjustable, with resistance increasing & decreasing along with a change in X condition. In this case, that condition is pressure, but there are styles that physically slide a connection point along so current goes through a larger or smaller distance of resistive material, for example, and other types exist as well.
Basically it's a stack of pressed carbon discs, and when you step on the pedal it applies pressure to the stack. This makes the individual disc contact each other more, but also compresses the material they're made of, all of which lowers their electrical resistance. When the pedal/button is all the way up, no electricity flows. Put a little pressure, get a little current, and so on up, and thus the motor spins faster and faster as you press down harder. With the button all the way down, the copper leaf springs should be touching the matching plate by that central screw, which shorts the current around the piles, so you get max power, max speed. Idk why mine doesn't get all the way there, or if it'll really matter.
Where does the extra electricity go? It turns into heat in the carbon piles, so this & other resistance-based speed controllers have a tendency to get hot with extended sewing, especially at low speeds. That's one of the reasons they don't make them this way any more, but they're not dangerous under normal use conditions.
