Some art inspired by the final chapter of attrition by @festivating that came out last week! If you haven't read the fic already, I HIGHLY recommend it.

I tried out a more painting-y kind of colouring style for two of these and I feel like it has potential but you can definitely tell I'm not quite used to it yet. But still, it's always good to experiment I suppose. Hope you enjoy them!

Some thoughts about PADDs

I had a thought that began with this scene from Lower Decks.

T'Lyn just...tosses it out the window, the modern day equivalent would be to chuck my phone out of a car to delete a google doc.

Its obvious that PADD were designed 24th century visual metaphor for presenting hard copy information between characters, like envelopes or reports, or ancient scrolls in period dramas.

Because they were fictional, the user processes hadn't yet been developed (TNG premiered in 1987, iPhone first release in 2007, iPad in 2010). Nobody knew to forward files from one device to another; if you notice, in TNG/DS9/VOY often someone, like Riker or Geordi, will physically hand their PADD to Picard so he can read their report.

This scene in DS9 is the equivalent of they're the same picture meme

So Trek carried on the metaphor further by having multiple PADDs on someone's desk to show accumulated paperwork:

Then there's Jean-Luc's challenges with organizing and prioritizing in Insurrection.

My personal head canon is that between now and the 24th century, it was found that having multiple tabs open on a device was somehow harmful to one's mental health.

His cheeks, too, were streaked with red, making the scar that ran across the bridge of his nose look a shade lighter than usual. The way his hair feel seemed almost purposely tousled to hide as much of himself as he could...

the other night, I finished writing a ~12k oneshot set a few days after thrawn and eli moved onto the chimaera. eli's mood has taken a downturn since his promotion; thrawn is set on uncovering why (and how to help).

as he does, they decorate a room and do a lot of talking. we go in-depth on lysatran culture (from thrawn's art analysis perspective), toss in some hurt/comfort, and it might've ended up being a getting together fic accidentally? here, eli is also portrayed as having a good relationship with his family and lysatra.

update: the laptop my dad found for me has a horrible screen where the colors are inaccurate and the display settings cannot be fixed in any way so now i am stuck with a computer that can't be used for any form of art or digital editing because there's no way to know what my project actually looks like and I've just spent $300 on a piece of absolute garbage that I will not be able to use.

i love games that take agency from the characters and give it to the player. i love when the playable character is stuck in their body being controlled by the player. i love when the game makes the player know who that youre the one who took the characters agency. youre the reason theyre stuck here. youre marching them to their death over and over. you are killing them. they dont have control over whats happening, but you do. you have their agency in your hands and youll do nothing good with it
