sooo i've been reblogging so much darkest dungeon recently it's finally time to commit acts of bothering people about it. and by people i mean fic writers. and by fic writers i mean the person behind an ongoing 85k words long reymas fic that i am extremely normal about

it was kinda a bumpy road, not gonna lie. lots of ramblings below

thy hast been warned

my SO was playing DD1 for a while, and i've caught a glimpse of them playing. however, while the art looked incredible, i had other hyperfixations, it didn't hook me straight away (i do remember, tho, vividly, that my first glimpse of DD was the fight against the Flesh). since they're not the person to look up wikis or guides, my SO struggled to understand why you'd need Anti and PD (they didn't know blight stacks and didn't know that anti adds loot), but i really liked PD's design and wanted them to take her on a mission and started to look up the game and what PD can do. i kinda loved the aesthetic, and the idea, so my SO gifted me a copy. i tried the game myself, and everyone died horribly (on Radiant, goddamnit, how'd i even managed to do that??), which made me feel really bad, so i dropped out for the time. besides, i was hyperfixated on ME and Hades, back then, and wouldn't quite shift interests

fast forward a couple of years, the DD2 dropped, and i decided to check the hype. the problem was, my graphics board was dying at the time, so DD2 kinda boiled my pc alive. thus, i remembered i still had DD1, it was much less demanding, so i decided to boot it. and it was okay, kinda alright to kill time, but i noticed that you always get the same guys at the start. and truth be told, i'm a lore junkie. i'm the kind of person who would spend 16 hours digging through game dialogue to get one obscure detail no one in their sane mind would care about. so i went to check out if there are any theories and fics about the two guys you start with

and io and behold, they were. and they were plenty. so i fell into reymass hell, and it was so cozy in there that my hyperfixations took a sharp turn, and i've been in DD ever since, fixated on the thing. i swear i feel like i've read everything there is on ao3 with reymas tag xD therefore, since last november, i'm working on a huge project called "Restructured, Refractured, Recalled" which is currently 65 parts and about 260 pages long, and is, of course, with reymas at its core. which might sound kinda petty - being in the fandom just for the pairing - but i need an emotional connection to the characters to function in the fandom, and those two old redemption husbands give me the anchor i need to do so

Without much thought, Dismas grabbed the front of the jester's mildewed tunic and dragged him out of the town's square, further from the commotion, prying eyes and spying ears (still most likely birthing a new rumour that they totally fucked – as if he needed more sour looks from Rey), before pinning him to the nearest wall in the darkest alley he could find at such short notice.  It was harder to do than it should have been. There was a glint in the slits of his mask that wasn't supposed to be there. He was still squirming and jittery. The symptoms were all there. The highwayman was sure of what he saw.  "The hell, Jingles?" the rogue growled lowly. Sarmenti stopped struggling to get away and sighed before shrugging. "Should've expected you to notice," he voiced, oddly picking at the hem of the rogues' sleeve. "You've always noticed."

I'm interested in Baldwins and Sarmentis relationship in RRR, will more of it come to light in later chapters?

Or could you give us a quick run down on how that came to be? How did they meet? Who caught feelings first and who made the first move?

and sorry for the late response. this shitstorm made me so depressed and angry i didn't know how to gather my wits to answer.

unfortunately, we don't get to see the whole story of Baldwin and Sarmenti since they're not exactly the focus of RRR, but let me assure you that we'll have a chapter where they will be heavily featured and we'll get to see more of them, their attitude and their interactions ^^

there won't be a full history since RRR isn't exactly about it, and we only see from Rey's perspective (who doesn't know them) or Dis' perspective (who's mostly interested in the present), but there will be an inkling of their relationship and how they are now. and, well, RRR isn't exactly straight and explains everything either, so it would've been weird to just... infodump about those two ^^'

i'd like to tell more but... frankly i don't feel like posting any of my stories or writing on tumblr after all the shit that had happened in the last few day and the fuckup they're making with ai and selling data...

do say, if i posted it on pillowfort, including their backstories, would you be interested in reading it?

not gonna lie, i had to read what all those even are. Commander or Executive for MBTI and 5 for enneagram, maybe? Heiress is logical to a fault (we'll see more of that later) so she has to be someone logical, lacking empathy, goal-oriented and lax in breaking the taboos. not sure if such people would even do those tests xD

🔺 RED TRIANGLE POINTED UP — does your oc know how to use any weapons?

she has a sword of black metal, and it looks too used to be ceremonial (despite being notably cared for, it's visibly damaged) but no one had ever seen her wield it

🚫 PROHIBITED — does your oc drink/smoke? do they do it regularly, or is it more on occasion or for special events?

no one ever saw the Heiress consuming anything. occasionally, there's a silver goblet and a crystalline decanter on her desk, but no one ever saw her take a sip. likewise, no one ever smelled smoke on her

🍎 RED APPLE — where was your oc born? do they still live in/around their place of birth or do they live somewhere else? how do they feel about their birthplace?

she was born in a place far away in both time and space. but she is too practical to miss it more than a minute once a couple of years or so. she knows she cannot go back anyhow, so she abandoned the memory, mostly. in her head, there's no point to grieve something which will not be back

💘 HEART WITH ARROW — what and/or who do(es) your oc consider the most important to them?

efficiency. she is utterly, completely, absolutely dedicated to perfecting efficiency of slaying HoT. you can call her speerdunner for trying her best to shave off weeks of time and even single gold coin off each week to make it better. luckily for inhabitants of Hamlet, she knows that healthy and mentally stable (or at least relatively stable), fed people fight better than starved, sick and dying ones, and money spent on gear is the money she's not getting back if they die down there.

RRR!Reynauld:

🐈 CAT — does your oc prefer a wide circle of friends or a few close friends?

Rey believes he has a big social circle, and that he's close to a lot of people but the key word here is "believes". In actuality, he's clammed up and all those people see what he tries to sell as the "ideal version" of himself, instead of actual him. Rey is actually extremely lonely, and is in an uphill battle of trying to convince himself that he's fine on his own. Dis was probably his closest confidant, and knew a lot of dirt Rey wishes he didn't.

can't say it's all on him, though. he was close to Barristan and now is close to Sir Jolland and "proper" heroes. he's also close with the abbot, to everyone's detriment, and the abbot saw the amazing potential of isolating him and making him an attack dog on all "improper" in the town

🧡 ORANGE HEART — does your oc tend to prioritize family or friends?

since Rey doesn't have family (in his own head), friends win by default xD hell, the man admits, he loved his horse more than his son. my Rey ain't a good dad...

😥 SAD BUT RELIEVED FACE — is your oc prone to getting stressed out, or is it easy for them to keep their cool?

Rey is all about appearances, so he would try his damnest to appear cool, collected and composed even when he's yelling and losing his shit on the inside. it takes a lot to crack his mask. but he's an increddible worrywart underneath it

RRR!Dismas

🎶 MUSICAL NOTES — what type of music does your oc like? do they listen to music very often?

Dis likes ditties and "silly" music - what we would consider burlesque, cabaret or the like. he wants to have a good time, not to feel too dumb to listen to a song

sea shanties and rhytmic, repeated music makes him fall into melancholy and quietness because it reminds him too much of prison "call&response" songs he had to listen for way too long and even be a part of to not be torn apart by chains

🔱 TRIDENT EMBLEM — can your oc swim? do they enjoy swimming?

as someone who had too many people attempt to drown him, Dismas can swim, and swim rather well. what's more, he's more used to swimming in clothes and with added weight than naked. he enjoys swimming but usually too busy to do it for fun, not to mention, he hates cold water, so it limits his options

💛 YELLOW HEART — how many languages does your oc speak? what language(s) are they learning, if any?

he knows his native tongue, and whatever equivalent of english anyone in DD are speaking + shards, bits and pieces of the languages from the countries he travelled through (mostly the most basic of levels and cussing)

🍸 COCKTAIL GLASS — what is your oc's favorite alcoholic drink, if they can drink?

any alcohol he doesn't have to pay for :D
