First artwork of 2025. I tried to retain the expressiveness of my pixel paintings but also clean it up and make the clusters at the edges reminiscent of impressionistic painting where there are abstract blobs of color that slowly get representational towards the center.

This has been amazing and nerve-wracking to watch! Luckily, the game didn't break and only one tutorial lesson was really bad (as I already knew), so I think it was a success?

Does anyone have experience with using other controllers with a Retron 5? I hate the base one and would really like to use an 8bitdo snes Bluetooth controller I have, but apparently the controller no longer has basic Retron 5 compatibility.

I've been told that I can get a Bluetooth controller adapter for one of the ports (such as snes) and play with it like that on something like a gba game. Should that be possible?

This is it! I can officially announce that my game Pixel Art Academy: Learn Mode will launch into Steam Early Access on August 5!

It'll be the 9th anniversary of the Pixel Art Academy Kickstarter that day and about 1.5 years since I decided to take the educational core of my adventure game and release it as a standalone, downloadable Learn Mode that focuses just on the educational parts without the story elements.

The reception of Learn Mode has been great so far and people seem to enjoy learning digital drawing and pixel art fundamentals through a video game. Whew! I'm far from done though, but the first chapter focusing on lines will be getting released now before I finish the other 6 out of 7 elements of art throughout Early Access.

One of the weirdest things I'll see as a game collector is people who are like, super pro emulation also want to tear me to shreds with their teeth for my sin of using a Retron 5 to play my NES, SNES, Famicom, Genesis and Gameboy games. Like im sorry theres an unnoticable degree of latency for me and that I have a better chance of beating Ninja Gaiden with save states.

I got this lunk when I was first getting into retro games many years back, when finding old consoles was difficult for me and i didnt have a lot of money. It was cheap and it let me play games i wanted to try. Now I have a Famicom, and a rare combo unit with the disk system built in, except it doesnt like working. And I now have an NES and it screams at me every time I plug it in.

like im not sorry that im playing these games on an hd tv through HDMI, its still just a reliable thing for me. i can save games that dont have built in saves, OR have a dead battery, its great
