One Card A Day Tarot Reading

Day 17

Date: 1-17-25

Deck: The Botanica Tarot. This one's cool, it's based on the language of flowers. Fatefully, I got an email this morning from the Botanica publisher saying they're releasing a new and updated version of the deck and it's PINK!!! AND THERES CRITTERS!! And the tier I want to buy is $120 so I need a new god damn job right now lol. Anyway, it's also the last unique deck! It'll be all repeats from here on in chosen purely by dice roll, unless I acquire a new deck this year, then it'll get its own introductory spotlight.

Intention: What should I consider to figure out what is most important?

Card: Queen of Swords REVERSED

Imagery: I had to check the guidebook for the flower, but it's two stems of red oleander with a crown nestled in amongst the leaves.

First impression: I don't usually read reversals but on like the second shuffle everything sort of fell out of whack so I'm honoring it. Granted, though, that means I have no idea what it means.

Guidebook says: REVERSE - a cutting, unsympathetic person. Someone who has suffered injuries in past relationships, and no longer suffers fools gladly. Every single part of this plant is poisonous, even the smoke it creates from being burned. It's sacred to Durga, the powerful goddess imbued with the weapons of the entire Hindu pantheon. The symbol is Durga's Kiritamukuta with lotus and inlaid pearls.

Second impression: Oh okay. Queen is me. I am fresh out of a job where I hit my absolute limit on the shit I would be willing to take. So, given the choice between a job that's close and I know the people (even though I know the work sucks) and a completely new job where I know no one and nothing and it would be a completely fresh start, choose the option to suffer fewer fools.

Evening reflection: Whoops I didn't mean to post this already. Anyway, I may have found a job that's both confidently located and generally fools-light so here's hoping, but I think that's the direction I'm gonna keep trying to go.

You have ideas and things you'd like to do but are hesitant or conflicted on how to start or accomplish them. Circumstances surrounding you may play a part. Think of what you want and what is causing the hesitation then formulate a plan to achieve your goals and become motivated.

COD: Reversed 4 of wands

Keys: instability, lacking, no support, neglected

This card can be construed as close to home. There may be a lack of support from family. Community instability surrounding you. Lack of understanding and communication with those around you. Don't feel like you fit in or are understood. Now, is the time to focus on yourself and your goals privately. Move forward using your own energy and not those around you. Things will get better but this card says you need to focus on self at this time. Self and the things that are important to you...reading, writing, self care, health, mindfulness, relaxation, hobbies, etc.

Jumpers, I find, tie in with the COD in some way. Today it is obvious, at least to me.

The fool feels neglected and therefore unmotivated and hesitant. They don't feel like they can paint the picture that they see internally or write the novel they dreamt about. Maybe improving their health seems out of reach and they feel they are stuck since they have no encouragement from those around them. Both cards are telling the Fool to trust in themselves, stop worrying about those around them and what they think or don't think, and come up with a way to accomplish what THEY want to do. It may not be easy but it is doable so find the way and move along it.

Deck: Stranger Things Tarot

Intention: How am I standing in my own way?

Card: Three of Dice UPSIDE DOWN. This is the only deck I regularly read reverses in, just because it's thematic lol

First impression: Uhh Dice is swords but I don't remember what the reverse means. Weird that I'm pulling this card again though

Guidebook says: Resentment is weighing you down and try as you might to forget ahead, you are not truly ready. Stop going through the motions, and allow yourself to thoroughly process whatever happened, because until you do, you're keeping yourself in a cycle of agony.

Second impression: My ability to compartmentalize is not necessarily a virtue. At some point you have to actually do something with your feelings.

Evening reflection: I think my deck just told me to get a therapist lmao

The angst potential alone haunts me. How long do you think he waited for Ford?? When did it start to sink in that nobody was coming to save him, that nobody would miss him? Would anybody even want him back? How long did it take for his anger, his heartbreak, his grief to turn into acceptance and a belief that this was divine retribution? How long did he work, how many jobs did he take, how much wealth did he accrue, how many brushes with death did he have until he believed he’d “earned” the right to go home and see his brother?? Many such questions. I need to go deeper
