Anyone talking yet about how Elon fired someone right after publicly mocking him, and for what? Asking Elon for some contact after being ignored for days?

Meet Haraldur Ingi Þorleifsson. Born in 1977 with a genetic congenital muscle disease that forced him to use a wheelchair since age 24. That didn't stop him, though. In 2014 he founded the company Ueno. Ueno was a company that designed digital brands for various companies. The company was pretty successful, since it won various awards and Haraldur was named Icelandic businessman of the year in 2019. In 2021, Haraldur sold his company to Twitter. Not just that! He sold it as a salary so that he could pay higher taxes. He ended up paying the second highest tax in Iceland for that year (for an individual).

Outside of his company, he also aided in a project called Ramp Up Reykjavík, the intention of which is to help in installing wheelchair ramps around the city for better wheelchair access everywhere. After the success of the first project, a second one called Ramp Up Iceland was launched, with the intentions of building 1000 ramps around the country. This seems to be the site for the project - https://www.rampur.is/ - it would be great if someone who knows Icelandic can help with explaining how to donate to it?

He also created Bueno, a project that, by his own words, "a non-profit that donates money to good people doing good things". He was given The Order of the Falcon by the president of Iceland, the Icelandic medal of chivalry for contributions to social issues. He was Person of the Year in Iceland in 2022. Honestly, there's probably even more.

And this is the person Elon Musk decided to take the mick out of.

Attachment to the second tweet: A YouTube video named "What would you say...you do here?". The video depicts a conversation between two men, presumably higher ups, and a third man, presumably someone who works at the company. The conversation is condescending towards the third man, implying his job (a type of customer service) is useless. The video ends with the third man outbursting "What the hell is wrong with you people!" before he leaves the room - based on his body language (looking down when he almost bumps into a colleague), it is implied that he was fired.]

There are other threads with the two conversing, this one is the most notable though as this seems to be when Haraldur learns he is fired. Musk later attempts to imply that Haraldur didn't work, saying that Haraldur "claimed he had a disability that prevented him from typing". As I mentioned above, Haraldur has a disability that forced him into a wheelchair. This same disability is slowly forcing Haraldur to lose strength in his upper body and arms. Not to mention, you don't need to type to work, mister "Lines of code matters". Newsflash, people can do work without typing. Musk thinks he's the only one who can do work without typing, I believe.

It's unknown (to me) if Haraldur was fired during this exchange or before it. At any rate, don't forget that Haraldur was on a "Don't Fire" list, yet Musk still laid him off.

And definitely don't forget that Musk seems to be avoiding paying him.

Crater Collapses in Iceland's New Volcano Spewing Rivers of Lava

Iceland's newest volcano, located in the Reykjanes peninsula, began erupting in early July, 2023. Now it's throwing "spatter bombs'" of molten lava.

In Iceland, the world's newest "baby" volcano is throwing a temper tantrum: It's overflowing and spewing "spatter bombs," or blobs of molten lava, into the surrounding crater.

The volcano formed on July 10, when an underground eruption opened a 1.7-mile-long (2.7 kilometers) fissure in the ground of Iceland's Reykjanes peninsula, southwest of the capital, Reykjavík. Leading up to this event, the region experienced a "seismic swarm," during which more than 7,000 earthquakes shook the area starting on July 4, according to a statement from the Icelandic Met Office. Lava trickled from the fracture in the ground, and seismic activity decreased for about a week after the eruption.

On July 18, however, "there was a major shift in the vent activity overnight," according to a post on the Facebook page of Rannsóknarstofa í eldfjallafræði og náttúruvá (the Laboratory of Volcanology and Natural Hazards), a research group from the University of Iceland. At around 11:30 p.m. local time, "the crater filled up to the brim with lava and the fountaining began to throw spatter bombs well beyond the crater rims." Roughly three hours later, a small opening formed, allowing lava to spill over the crater, the post added. By early morning, a section of the crater's rim had collapsed, releasing a river of lava to the north and west. The lava pouring from this crater is roughly 2,192 degrees Fahrenheit (1,200 degrees Celsius), the scientists said.

"The crater became unstable and collapsed," Ingibjörg Jónsdóttir, an associate professor of geography at the University of Iceland and member of the lab, told Live Science in an email. "It had built up quite fast and it was filling up with lava on the inside, causing pressure to the walls. Not unusual as such but spectacular and of concern since there were people quite close by not long before it happened (in a closed area though)."

On the opposite side of the volcano, lava flowing south stalled and eventually crusted over, the post said. The area around the eruption site is uninhabited, and the eruption does not currently post a risk to infrastructure, according to the Icelandic Met Office. Firefighters in Grindavík, a nearby Icelandic town, have already contained the potential spread of fire from July 18's lava spill, and they no longer believe it is a threat, according to the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service.

Scientists will continue to monitor the volcano's behavior because future lava flows could ignite wildfires and reduce air quality in the region, according to the statement. Watch a livestream of the volcano on the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service's website here.

📺favorite tv show? This answer is likely to change, and while I do love Shameless (and feel like that's the anticipated response lol) it is not actually my favorite tv show. It's up there (especially seasons 1-4), but I think the dedication of fav tv show as of now has to go to The Queen's Gambit. Nothing inspired me the way that show did, I obsessed over it for over a year, I have approximately 4 billion pins on Pinterest of it, and the track for the Mexico City Invitational 1966 got me through one of the hardest exams of my life. I am going to answer the rest of the questions with Shameless though because TQG doesn't really have a lot of what these questions are asking.

🕴️ favorite character? (I am so excited that @mybrainismelted mentioned Sheila, because I LOVE her in Shameless, she was one of my favorite characters, too). My other favorite is Ian. He is a sweet boy who is always trying so hard, and my heart kind of breaks for him all the time (In TQG, my fav character is Beth Harmon, gotta love her).

💋favorite relationship in the show? Ian and Mickey.

👯‍♂️fav sibling relationship in the show? I adore Ian and Fiona. I feel like Ian was the last one who was her "baby brother," and not as much "her kids" (though they all were) and I think the way they saw each other was so sweet. I just -- when Fiona asks how her "sweetface" is doing I wanted to CRY. Fiona with any of her siblings (except maybe Debbie in later seasons) though is always fun to watch.

🎨favorite art form? Probably music.

⚡️a talent you wish you had? Digital art. I've tried, I want to be good at it, but I'm terrible and it feels weird, so I stick to pen and paper for drawing.

☀️what is one thing that can always make your day better? music. particularly hearing someone play the piano.

🎬favorite fictional character of all time? Of all time??? That's so hard. Probably Link from Legend of Zelda. I've followed many iterations of him over the years and he never fails to make me happy and entertain me for several hours.

🌅dream place to travel to? Also Iceland, haha -- I always wanted to see Reykjavík.

🎈you’re planning a huge party, what’s the theme? Unlikely to host a huge party, but if it was like a gala I'd try for a Night Circus Theme? that'd be cool. With my actual money threshold, though, something that makes me laugh. My friend hosted a Golden Girls party and it was a blast. Or honestly, Twilight never ceases to entertain.

👖how would you describe your style? I dress very farmery midwest, and admittedly a little camp counselorish. Lots of jeans, graphic tees, henley style longsleeves and tanks, flannels/oversized button downs, crew neck sweatshirts and three-quarter-zips; lots of layers.

31 Days Rammstein Challenge - Day 9: Favourite Remix

Rammstein has so many remixes that I thought this challenge would be more difficult than it was. But once I went through the list, it became obvious to me which one I had to pick.

Zeit RMX by Ólafur Arnalds.

This remix is simply beautiful. The arrangement is incredible, it lifts up the already touching song and turns it into a timeless classical piece that highlights the melancholy and beauty of Rammstein's music.

I love what Ólafur Arnalds wrote on his own Facebook page after the remix was released:

When I was 15 years old Rammstein came to Reykjavík. This was going to be one of the biggest shows in Icelandic history. Me and my friends went and headbanged our teenage hearts out. 20 years later I was asked to rework their latest single.

What an absolute treasure his remix has become.

Reykjavík has always been on my wishlist due to its beautiful landscape and vibrant design. I’ve never thought I could explore the place with my beloved baby sister, Elle!

We took our time to explore the city first while deciding what we should be doing. It’s not long until we decide we’re going to ski! We went up the snow-filled hill and had a great time there. The snow was so thick that when I fell butt first to the ground, it felt like landing on a pillow. I’m so glad Elle was there to help me up, and we had so much fun and laughter together.

After the ski, we went back to the city and dropped by a cute cafe. The place smelled like bread. It made me hungry. So I got a cup of coffee and two breads for myself. That was a lot, and I was so full, even after Arielle helped me eat 1/4 of them. It was so good, though; no regrets at all!

Iceland Erupts

The waiting is over. After weeks of ominous earthquake swarms and warnings from geologists about the possibility of an eruption, lava began to pour from a new fissure on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwestern Iceland late on December 18, 2023. The eruption is located about 4 kilometers (2 miles) northeast of the town of Grindavík and about 50 kilometers (30 miles) southwest of Iceland’s capital, Reykjavík.

The eruption began with fountains of lava shooting dozens of meters into the air along a 4-kilometer fissure and flowing laterally from five vents. The brightness temperature image above (right) was acquired by the VIIRS (Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite) on the NOAA-20 satellite at 4:00 a.m. local time on December 19, after the eruption had begun. The other image (left) shows the same area early on December 18, before the eruption. Brightness temperature measurements are useful for distinguishing the relative warmth or coolness of features on the land surface and in the atmosphere.

“What you’re seeing in these images is the very high temperatures of the active lava flows compared to the surrounding land and clouds,” said Simon Carn, a volcanologist at Michigan Technological University. “The darker lower-temperature areas appear to be some topography that the lava is flowing around, but these could also be areas where the eruption fissure is not active and has cooler lava, or where gas plumes or clouds are obscuring the surface.” Topographic maps of the area show three hills to the west of the eruption fissure that reach heights of roughly 200 meters.

Reports from the Icelandic Met Office indicate that lava is mostly flowing east and north, which poses minimal risks to Grindavík, the Blue Lagoon, and other nearby infrastructure. “However, this could change if the lava accumulates and starts flowing in different directions, if the active fissure extends southward, or if new fissures open up," Carn said. "If lava continues to flow north, it could eventually reach the key main road from Keflavík airport to Reykjavík."

Icelandic authorities have emphasized the type of eruption that is occurring—a fissure eruption—does not usually result in large explosions or significant production of ash lofted high into the atmosphere. As of December 19, there were no disruptions to flights to and from Iceland, and international flight corridors remained open, according to Icelandic officials. Officials also noted that the nearby town of Grindavík was evacuated on November 10 as a precaution, and that the current eruption does not present a threat to life.
