Let's build an Autobot team!
"The Dark Horse" is to refer to a character that fans weren't expected to be familiar with that the creator is trying to give some limelight to or a brand new character! Like Bulkhead in TFA or Flamewar and Geomotus in IDW2019! There are some lesser known characters throughout the poll, but let's have a guaranteed. So!
The other polls: Leader, Kid Appeal, Medic, Scientist/Engineer, Warrior, "The Girl", Brute

Who are your favorite characters from the TF Marvel comics, and why?
SHIT OKAY
1. Ratchet my beloved. He's tragic and deserves happiness, and I love him so much. He deserves better. He cares so much, but god he suffers. They do so much for him with writing and linking his character to both Megatron and Optimus. I love him so much he deserves a few parties.
Tumblr media
2. Optimus. DEPRESSED MAN! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH! STOP DYING PLEASE! He also cares so much, but he is so mentally ill. This Optimus is so depressed and gets major trauma from the early run of the comics. He's not the best in this one leadership wise, but he's still Optimus and I love him.
Tumblr media
3. Bumblebee. Yes yes it is cliche for me to love Bumblebee. Yet another yellow robot. But I love him so much. He's a little guy who gets himself in trouble a lot. He starts off with the worst self esteem issues known to man but, we can see his character grow and develop, and he really comes into his own. He also yells at god, so that resonated with me a bit because of my own personal struggles.
Tumblr media
4. Shockwave. MENACE! HE IS A MENACE! He's on par with Megatron with villainy. He's a certified threat. Honestly, he's a bigger threat than Megatron sometimes. He's written so well, and I like how he insists on his logic, yet we can see his emotions clash with this insistence with later issues.
Tumblr media
5. Starscream. Pathetic asshole. Tries to be god. His hubris is his downfall.
Tumblr media
6. Blaster. Coolest dude there is. Good leader. He honestly should be in Transformers more. He's confident and level headed and so well written.
Tumblr media
7. Roadhandler. Autobot Micromaster. Becomes a pro wrestler. Great with kids. Good role model.
Tumblr media
8. Skullgrin. Decepticon Pretender. COOL NAME! Becomes an actor. He's the best.
Tumblr media
9. Grimlock. BASTARD! ASSHOLE! He's so funny to me. He's on par with Starscream in treachery. He's the stupidest guy I ever met. And he's stupid. (He's not that stupid.)
Tumblr media
10. SCROUNGE! Scrounge, I love you. You were in one issue.

Premiere Pro crashed. Lost all the work on...Roadhandler and Swindler.
You know, we really should appreciate Autosave more often. Could've been a lot worse otherwise.
Still, beeg project. Haven't had a crash like that since Zeta Superitron.

I won’t lie, the wiki really endeared me to Roadhandler. Helps that he got a new toy a few years back that was articulate for its size. Plus, heroic wrestler is like two degrees off superhero, and I am obsessed with the latter
Tumblr media
Sir even if we assume you are right. That not a single superhuman villain would have had any cause to hurt people without superheroes around, which is bullshit in itself. Most of the biggest threats are outside context problems that do not give 2/10ths of a SHIT about human politics. Action Comics 622

Joining us in the Allspark Studios today is the strongest and wisest of all Autobots, Optimus Prime!  Will he fulfill his role of protecting all the life on your toy shelves, or will he split into three autonomous modules and spend the day watching Nextflix with himself?  Tune in after the break to find out!
At this point, you could basically fill a small museum with all the different versions of Optimus Prime.  Each one has its own personality of design, with high points and limitations of the era within which they were created.  Having been a fan of the franchise for most of my life, I have owned nearly all of them, minus G2 Go-Bot Optimus Prime, which still leaves a void in my collector’s heart.  Every time I buy an Optimus figure, there has been a moment of reckoning, as I look at the new figure and compare it to the Optimus Prime in my head; the spirit of the character, as interpreted by my once 7-year-old’s mind as he watched cartoon Optimus in awe every Saturday morning in the 80’s.  While each figure is essentially him, none of them have ever truly come close to glory of the cartoon aesthetic of Optimus Prime while maintaining the ability to transform.  While we may be getting an official MP (and some 3P) that will do just this, finding a figure at the average collector’s budget just didn’t seem likely…then Hasbro dropped Siege Optimus on us.  Let’s see how he measures up!
Vehicle Mode
There are a lot of really good things going on in this vehicle mode, even if it does not perfectly embody G1 Prime’s cab mode.  It has the right basic square cab shape, clear-ish windows, tires on metal pins, and a nice amount of red, blue and silver with just a bit of white thrown in.  From a bit of a distance, it comes really close to getting things on the G1 dot, but there are a few elements that break the illusion.  Most of the non-slavishly G1 elements come out of looks versus function needs, and I am OK with that.
The smokestacks are not the “right” proportion, and if they were, they would get in the way of transformation and posing/play. The “overcab” light section that also contains the grill, headlights, and bumper is needed to turn a heroic torso section into a flat-faced cab front.  All things considered, the only design element I find a little off-putting is the grill, which is covered in the same translucent blue plastic as the windows and lights.  I would have preferred for this section to have been grey or silver, but that is easy enough to correct with some touch up paint if it really starts to bother me.
The paint ops are nice enough on this mode, with the exception that the “battle damage” was not clearly designed with this mode in mind.  There is a little bit on the front just under the windshield, and the shoulder damage is still in view, but aside from that the rest of the vehicle mode is devoid of this random detail.  I understand budgets come into play, and perhaps this was the best medium between all or none in both modes, but it leaves the vehicle mode with random markings that just seem out of place.
One feature of the Siege line that I love on this figure is all of the 5mm ports.  Between the deluxes like Cog and Six-Gun, the Micromasters and Battlemasters, a creative young (or old) fan can turn Optimus into a veritable “battle convoy”.  It is even possible for Headmasters and Titanmasters to get in on the fun, if only as pilots for the added weaponry.  This is a great move on Hasbro’s part, and I think most fans will love it as much as I do.
  Robot Mode
Truck Mode was great.  Robot mode is where Siege Prime really shines.  First off, he has the right look.  Except for the wheels at his sides, the “overcab” panel (which could be looked at as a jetpack) and the panels on his forearms (which are way less obtrusive than the panels on Classics Prime), he is basically cartoon Prime.  Get rid of the battle damage paint and swap most of his greys with his whites, and he’s there despite those other details, all for the cost of a voyager (local pricing policies may apply).
One of the things that really pushes this Prime to the top of my personal list is the insane amount of articulation.  He has:
  Ankle tilts
Knee joints
Lateral knee movement
Lateral thigh movement
Hips on rotating swivels
Waist movement
Backward shoulder swivels
Shoulders on rotating swivels
Lateral bicep movement
Elbows
Swivel fists
Swivel neck
Partially moveable head on ball joint
He can do lots of awesome poses, such as the classic scene from the ‘85 movie where he transforms and blasts Decepticons from the air as he leaps above them.
This is truly one of the most iconic Optimus Prime figures ever, especially at anywhere near an affordable price for most fans.  If you throw in the added fun from all the 5mm ports and the ability to add weapons and other figures into the mix, he is well worth the cost.
  Transformation
While I was able to transform this figure back and forth without the instructions, the first time through was a bit of a learning curve to get all the parts in the right place.  While I enjoy a mildly challenging transformation, this might make Prime a little difficult for younger fans.  Don’t be surprised if you gift him to one of the kiddoes and find yourself being asked to switch him back and forth.  At least he’s not as frustrating as Car Robots were back in the day.
    Recommendation
I give Siege Optimus Prime 9 blast effects out of 10!  He is a packed with fun in vehicle mode, ready for action posing in robot mode, and very close to the ideal Optimus Prime with a price tag that won’t kill your wallet.  While he may still need some assistance if gifted to younger fans, I still think they will love him as much as the G1 generation will.  Make sure to keep your eyes peeled and pick him up as soon as you have the chance!
    Firedrive
During my review of Megatron and the Wave 1 Battlemasters and Micromasters, I lamented slightly about how HasTak ditched the Japanese Targetmaster molds from Legends in favor of newly designed Battlemaster molds.  Since then I have spent more time with Firedrive and Blowpipe and they have grown on me because of their designs.  There is a certain amount of curve or puffiness in the techno-organic, Cybertronian style that the Legends figures just don’t have.  Once you look at Firedrive’s shins and shoulders, you will see what I am talking about.  There is something very classic to their look, and I am happier now that we got new figures because of it.  I still wish Firedrive had a slight bit more articulation, but I will keep buying Battlemasters because they look great and come with blast effects.
    Lionizer
Lionizer is a Cybertronian lion whose tail becomes a back-mounted blaster, and who can also transform into a sword/blaster (Qualta blade, #farscape).  He comes with a slashing effect that also looks nice on Megatron’s sword/blaster.  I think he is my favorite Battlemaster so far.
    Race Car Patrol
This is a neat set of mini-figures.  Both Roadhandler and Swindler maintain vehicle modes that look close to their G1 forms of a Trans-Am and a DeLorean.  If that wasn’t cool enough, they have decently articulated forms for such tiny robots, and they can combine into a blaster (of sorts).  The only knock I will give them is that they don’t stand very well on their own if you do much more than a vanilla standing pose.
    Battle Patrol
These were the Micromasters I wanted as a kid (who was considered too old for toys by that time).  Topshot and Flak are great recreations of half of the original team.  There is something cool about tiny Cybertronian tanks and missile launchers, especially since they are a bit more in proportion to the city bots.  Due to the way their feet are designed, the Battle Patrol is more stable in standing and action poses than their Race Car Patrol brethren.  They also form a much more convincing blaster, which is almost as cool as having a DeLorean on the team.
      Siege Optimus Prime
  Lionizer
  Firedrive
  Autobot Race Car Patrol
  Autobot Battle Patrol
Siege Optimus Prime, Wave 1 Autobot Micromaster and Battlemaster Gallery and Review! Joining us in the Allspark Studios today is the strongest and wisest of all Autobots, Optimus Prime!

There’s a new Transformers line hitting stores, and I was even able to find a few of them! No Siege Megatron at my local Targets yet, but I was able to get the Deluxes I wanted plus the Micro- and Battle-masters. So let me take a quick look at the line, less figure-by-figure and more of a broad analysis of how the toys work and what I think of ‘em so far.
So the Deluxes I grabbed were Cog and Skytread, since I’m not feeling yet-again versions of Sideswipe and Hound (nice-looking though they are, I admit). So right out the gate there’s a theme in both of these guys coming apart for their gimmicks. Well, in Skytread’s case it’s because he’s a recreation of Duocon Flywheels, splitting into a jet and a tank for his altmode, while Cog just pulls apart into a bunch of guns that can be rebuilt into what could be charitably described as a vehicle. Skytread is quite cool, being a delightful clamp-together pair of vehicles that still make for a very cohesive, posable robot (god I love that ankle tilts are apparently going to be standard on this line). He scales right with the previous line’s Battletrap and can even swap pants with him, though his components don’t do the separate-robot-modes-gem-fusion-husbands thing that Roadtrap and Battleslash did. I’m actually okay with this! The idea of the Duocons being a trio of dudes that work kinda differently from each other makes for an amusing team dynamic, and I’m still tickled at how it solidifies the joke that Battletrap was two dudes all along, and no one, not even his partner, thought to ask until last year.
Cog, meanwhile, is much less impressive and interesting as an action figure on his own. The fun part comes in how his components work: It really is simple and satisfying that you can just yank off his arm or leg and have some other dude use it as a weapon. And he can even fully separate and connect to any other toy in the line to Brute-Mode them up! Cog, and his forthcoming fellow Weaponisers Brunt and Six-Gun (named on account of his six guns) are the driving force of the play pattern in this line, and really make the whole thing come alive beyond the base ‘Transforming robots’ thing.
The other, smaller toys feed into that. The Battle Masters are little dudes that basically function as DLC for previous releases, but can also assist with any adjacent toys. Firedrive and Blowpipe are proper transforming Targetmaster guns, while Lionizer gets to be a sword. They’re all pretty simple, lowest-price-point fellas, but in a line all about adding on weapons no one’s gonna complain about extra guns. What’s really special about them is the effects parts: They’re all packing in laser bursts or a slash-effect in Lionizer’s case, that can attack to them, or peg onto places on the larger toys to look like they’re getting hit by gun-fire! They’re even compatible with any other weapons that appear throughout the line, further expanding on the myriad cross-compatibility that seems to drive it. Lionizer’s probably my favorite: His kitty mode is cute, the sword is unique, and that slash effect is so keen.
Meeting halfway at the weapons and robots intersection are the Micromasters. These are direct updates of guys from the 1989 series, with some tweaks. You get two in a pack instead of four, and they can combine to form bigger weapons for others to use. The Race Car Patrol of Roadhandler and Swindler is probably the weakest of the bunch, having simply expected car and robot modes, and some utterly daft weapon configurations. The Battle Patrol with Topshot and Flak fares better, with really cool, distinct military vehicle modes and distinct transformations to robot modes (Topshot is one of the more complex ones for a Micro). And I’ve always had some odd affection for Flak. Their weapon mode is decently cool too, especially if you finangle it around to make Topshot’s head less visible and shorten it up a bit. The Air Strike Patrol with Visper (a less-cool-named Whisper) and Storm Cloud is best of breed though. They’ve got great little vehicle modes with effective transformations to genuinely great robot modes (Storm Cloud even has elbows! And he can mount the effects parts on his gun-hands!), and their decidedly Star-Saber-ish combined-plan sword mode is a treat. It’s compatible with Lionizer’s slash effect! Overall, I understand there’s some gnashing of teeth over how retreaded some of the larger figures in Siege seem to be, but don’t sleep on these Micro-mans; They’re a boon to the line and a great set of TF toys in their own right, and they aren’t dudes who’ve been done-over to death!
So I think Siege is off to a fun start. I love the way the line is all cross-compatible and the more you get the more fun interconnected stuff you can do, between the extra combining bits and bonus weapons and effects parts. It feels very…living, I guess? Having multiple around makes me want to pick up and fiddle with combinations and options between them; the modularity of the weaponisers like Cog is especially engaging. I won’t be getting all of them, as outlined, but I’m definitely excited to see what other cool stuff I do want comes out of this new series.
So that’s all for tonight, everyone! Take it easy, Tumblr, and I’ll see you again!

I draw a pen doodle every day until I forget
Day 29: Micromaster Mosh Pit
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Today’s drawing isn’t a single character, but a bunch of micromasters in a Mosh Pit! I’ve never moshed, or pitted in my life, but I do like the idea of a bunch of tiny transformers raiding a metal concert! Kinda like that one marvel comic where skids, bumblebee, hoist, and some others helped out at a Bruce Springsteen concert! But only the robots get to enjoy the whole show!
What should these guys be moshing to? Maybe I’ll think of an answer for tomorrow, since I’ll need to do something special for 30 days of drawing, right? Maybe a Soundwave concert? Nah, too cliche…
