Lady Hera is the queen of the gods and goddesses and the shared ruler of the skies, she deserves respect, and I adore her, as a researcher, and as a person in the community, I do not worship her, but she is welcoming, she is a wonderful goddess and kind, and as a mother and a ruler, she is amazing.

His first engagement gift to her was a white gold ring adorned with a pear cut diamond, huge and sparkling, haloed with tiny amethysts. The band twined prettily like strands of Weave, and engraved on the inside in his own hand were the words: ‘I found divinity in you.’ Tav received it via courier, opening the door in her home just off Heapside Strand to see the poor dragonborn woman obscured by armfuls of blooms: blue irises, red roses, massive clouds of peonies and bright purple anemones, even cascades of delicate wisteria.

‘Someone must absolutely adore you!’ the woman gushed, her copper scales gleaming in the morning light. ‘When you’ve taken all these, love, there’s something else for you. There’s a vase here, too- do you want me to help you arrange these?’

‘Oh! That would be wonderful,’ said Tav. ‘Thank you.’ She backed inside for the lady to pass and spied the vase. It was a work of art; a sculptural piece of rose quartz veined with gold. Bringing it carefully inside, she set it by her reading nook, filled it with water, and watched as the courier carefully arranged them. The sight of them brought her such great joy she wanted to cry.

‘And one more thing. I was told to be incredibly careful with this,’ she said, smiling and reaching into her satchel. She withdrew a small box and an ornate letter on quality parchment. ‘Have a wonderful day!’

‘Bye,’ she said to her retreating back, closing the door slowly behind her. With trembling hands, she opened the letter.

My love, I know I proposed in haste. I had to, in truth. I was so terrified it would all be a dream and I’d wake, and you’d be gone. Not that I don’t trust you, of course. It’s more that you are so beyond even my most audacious dreams that I cannot believe you’re real. I hope you like what I chose for you. White gold for your complexion of course, a diamond for the pure beauty of your soul and the endless love I hold for you, and, if you’ll forgive me a little vanity, amethysts for myself. I would say more here but those things are best said in vows. I hope you like the flowers. I’ll tell you why I chose them, but those things are best said running my fingers through your hair, murmured softly into your waiting ear. I wish I could see your face… not long now. Still, being apart from you is torture. Here’s to eternity. Gale.

‘Oh,’ said Tav, blinking back tears and kissing his name on the parchment. ‘Gale, I adore you.’ She reached for the box and gasped at its contents. The most perfect ring, just as he’d described. It twinkled on her finger like a piece of the astral plane. She curled up in her favourite chair and wept tears of joy, wishing she could hold him.

His second gift arrived a week later. Tav opened the door to a cheerful dwarven man holding a sturdy basket in his arms. ‘Hello ma’am,’ he said, eyes twinkling in delight. ‘I’ve a gift for you from Mr Gale Dekarios. He gave me express instructions to deliver his gift to you personally. It’s important it’s opened indoors, in a secure area, and away from any fine furnishings. Ahem. He hopes you enjoy your gift. Blessings, ma’am.’ He handed the basket over and off he went with a cheery wave. Frowning in puzzlement, Tav took it inside and set it down in the kitchen, gingerly lifting the lid. She gasped, astonished. Inside, fast asleep, was a tiny, winged kitten, silver and grey. It had a small, jeweled collar and a letter tucked beneath one dainty paw.

My love, Tara has been my stalwart companion for most of my life. She saved it, in fact, more than once. I cherish her utterly, and I want you to have the same unwavering support when I can’t be there for you. I hope that is a rare occurrence, since if it were not, I fear it would drive me mad to be apart from you for long. Still… this is Calliope. Admittedly she’s only a baby, but I want you to have as much bonding with her as possible. She’ll speak in time. May she be a comfort to you when I cannot be. Forgive my presumption, I put your name down as Dekarios. Selfishly, it brought me such joy to do so that I wept. Be here. Would that time would speed up, just a little, so I could hold you in my arms. Gale.

The kitten stirred in her basket, stretched and mewed softly. Delicately, Tav drew her into her arms. ‘Hello, Calliope,’ she said, kissing her fuzzy little head. ‘I hope you love your dad as much as I do.’ She stroked her soft wings, cooing to her as she showed her the house. Calliope blinked her golden eyes slowly and pushed her head into Tav’s palm, purring. ‘He knows exactly how to make me feel like the most special woman in the world, doesn’t he? Hmm?’ Calliope meowed in agreement, climbing up onto her shoulder and settling around her neck, like she'd always been there.

Tav was in Waterdeep, finally. It was the night before the wedding, and she stared at the ceiling in Morena’s spare room, her heart like a hummingbird’s wings in her chest. Calliope had tucked her face into the crook of her neck but did not sleep, sensing her excitement. The wedding dress hung on the back of the door, a confection of seed pearls and silk perfect for the summer heat. Tiny flowers cascaded off the shoulders in a froth of lace, putting her in mind of seafoam. She knew Gale was in his tower feeling exactly the same, and drifted off to sleep with his face in her mind, the first time he told her he loved her all that time ago.

The day dawned bright and cloudless. It was a flurry of activity the moment she woke: Morena had called Shadowheart, Lae’zel, Karlach and Astarion to her home early to help Tav dress and prepare themselves.

‘I hope you’re ready, darling,’ said Astarion, kissing her on the cheek.

‘What are you doing here? I thought you’d be in Gale’s party.’

‘Oh please,’ he purred. ‘You know I love you more.’ He chucked her under the chin and winked. ‘You ought to know, I made that delicious dress for you. It pains me to know it’s just going to end up in pieces on the fl-’

‘Alright Fangs, that’s enough,’ said Karlach, clapping a hand over his mouth. ‘You’re making the bride blush and only one man gets to do that today.’

‘Chk,’ admonished Lae’zel. ‘Both of you are children.’

‘For once we agree on something, Lae’zel. It must be a special day indeed,’ replied Shadowheart. ‘C’mon Tav. Makeup first.’

‘If you get even the faintest smidge of makeup on that dress,’ began Astarion dangerously, ‘I will drain you dry, love. So be careful.’ Shadowheart shot him a quelling look and set to work. When Calliope leapt into Tav’s lap, Astarion came to the rescue. ‘Ah-ah, little one,’ he said, scooping her up. ‘Mummy’s making herself extra beautiful, alright?’ He held the kitten in his arms, looking for all the realms like a doting uncle.

‘I hope you don’t take this the wrong way, angel,’ said Morena when she came to check everything was alright a little later, ‘I think Gale may just die when he sees you.’

Lae’zel and Karlach helped Tav into her dress, Astarion hovering anxiously as they did so. Finally, he slid pearl encrusted slippers onto her feet. ‘I think she’s ready,’ said Karlach, beaming.

Her friends were dressed in assorted colours themselves: Shadowheart in midnight blue, Lae’zel in maroon, Karlach in cyan and Astarion in emerald green. Morena wore deep purple.

‘A couple finishing touches,’ said Morena, fastening a pair of diamond studs in Tav’s ears. ‘I wore these on my own wedding day. And these-’ she handed her a massive bouquet of blue irises. ‘Ready?’

‘I am,’ she said.

The wedding party converged on the tower; Tav was hidden from Gale with the aid of a strong invisibility spell, spirited away while everyone took their places, Astarion taking her by the arm. ‘Are you sure you want me to do this for you?’ he murmured softly.

‘I’m sure,’ she said. ‘You’ve become very special to me.’ He smiled, and she could’ve sworn unshed tears sparkled in his eyes.

‘Alright darling.’ He lifted the invisibility spell and threw open the great oak doors before her. She stared; Gale had never mentioned a ballroom in his tower before. It was festooned with what could only be the work of all the florists in Waterdeep, the same flowers Gale had sent her with her engagement ring. The natural magic of the space swirled around them in colourful motes, sparkling and beautiful. At the far end of the room, Wyll and Minsc were speaking quietly with Gale, Jaheira and Halsin murmuring quietly with Morena, who held Calliope in her lap. Astarion squeezed Tav’s arm as music struck up from nowhere, piano and violin and harp. She recognised this. It was the music Gale had played for her in their vision, all that time ago.

Astarion walked Tav down the aisle, his presence calming and steady. She knew he was proud of her, and she would’ve wanted no-one else to give her away. As she approached, Gale beamed, his eyes wide and soft. He took her hands as Astarion took his place beside Wyll and kissed them, unable to stop himself.

‘Hello,’ he murmured.

‘Hello,’ she whispered back, grinning.

‘Beloved, we are gathered,’ said the wood elf priestess, ‘to witness the joining of two souls in eternal love. They will speak their vows to one another, and ritual will be sealed in the ancient magics of Realmspace.’ She gestured to Gale. ‘Mr Dekarios, if you would.’

Tav felt tears sliding down her cheeks, giggled when Gale brushed them away gently with his thumbs. Taking a breath, she responded, ‘Gale. You are the most special man I’ve ever known, magic or not. I’ve never known someone so generous, so open and kind and wonderful. You saved me as well. I was so lonely. So lost. And you took my hand and led me out of the dark into your world of beauty and wonder. Wherever you are is consecrated ground. I will cherish you forever. I love you.’

Dimly aware that everyone around her was weeping into their hands, Tav could only just hear the priestess telling Gale to kiss her; he drew her to him by the waist and kissed her with such tenderness it made her feel faint. Only when they needed to breathe did he pull away, pure adoration on his face. He pressed his forehead to hers as their friends and family cheered, and she felt at home- with her husband- for the first time in her life.

Autumn Traditions

Summary: Just a little blurb about Eris' thoughts on some Autumn Court courting traditions. @erisweekofficial Day 4: Traditions

Author's Note: There are many fanarts out there of both Lucien and Eris that show them with some type of braiding in their hair. What if the braids actually symbolize something? For instance, they could be a quick way to visually determine a male's relationship status (provided their hair is long enough for braiding). For example:

Short Hair/No braid= single and not looking for marriage

One braid on the right= single and looking for marriage

Two braids on the right = courting, but not yet engaged

One braid on the left = engaged

Two braids on the left = married

Three braids on the left =widowed

I think females would show their relationship status more through jewelry rather than hair style. For Autumn Court I could see gold and rose gold as the primary metals. For those in higher standing red gemstones (Garnets and Rubies specifically) would be used as the focal point of the piece. Diamonds, darker amethyst, and darker emeralds could be added to enhance the piece. For those that are in lower classes, less precious gems such as Carnelian, Citrine, and Smokey Quartz could be used a focal points.

I feel like the Fae wouldn't be limited to rings either. (If I remember correctly, it was mentioned that Tamlin only gave Feyre an engagement ring due to her previous human life). Therefore, I feel like the Fae would also use necklaces, earrings, or bracelets in addition to rings for engagements. The type of jewelry could even be an indication of how the engagement came to be.

Rings = traditional love matches

Earrings/Bracelets = arranged marriages

Necklaces = mates (because it is close to the heart)

Eris glanced around the ball room, completely uninterested in the spectacle that surrounded him. The social season had begun in full swing in the Autumn Court. One of the oldest of Fae traditions for making marriage matches for the females of the court. One that had also been fully adopted by the Humans over the centuries. At least according to his youngest brother's letters about his travels along the continent with his mate.

For centuries Eris had lacked any interest in attending these functions. He had much rather get a few hours of nightly training with his hounds, making sure that their senses remained sharp under any circumstances. However, this year his Mother had absolutely insisted that he at least make an appearance.

While he had the capability to be as social as expected of an Autumn Court Lord, Eris just didn't have the energy for pretense and painful small talk. So, he found himself standing to the sidelines. His long hair down, cascading in a river of crimson down his back. He had to try and refrain from poking and prodding at the itching pain the single intricately woven braid along the right side of his head caused. Another damn nonsense tradition in his mind, but who was he to deny his Mother in the end.

He knew perfectly the well the game that she was trying to quietly play for Eris. The single braid signifying to all the Ladies and their Fathers that the High Lord's eldest son was finally back on the marriage market. After the termination of his engagement to Morrigan centuries ago, he was certain that his Mother had managed to convince his Father that it was high time some grandchildren were produced.

Eris scanned over the room again. Males of all ages had braids in their hair. The location and number each signifying those available from those that weren't. He noted that the Father's of eligible young ladies now seemed to add charms to their marriage braids. Perhaps a new tradition was beginning to form.

While it was easy to spot every intention of the Male's filling the space, it was always more difficult to see which females had already become spoken for. Rings were often difficult to spot from a far. Earrings even more so. But it was the presence of necklaces that many males were fearful of finding around the neck of a beneficial match.

Eris' deep honey hued orbs snagged on the one female who sported such an item. Out of the hundreds that filled the ballroom, there was at least one pair of mates. A true reminder of the scarcity of mates. Though, the Night Court seemed to have a considerable amount of luck in that feat.

He sighed, one of his Father's underlings finally decided to descend upon him. Closing his eyes to prepare his mask as the cold and indifferent heir. Oh, the things he did for his family.

Chapter 3: boxing match

Sally: are you sure that you can do this?

Kim: yes i am sure sally we need that money for tobor

Sally: ok be careful you haven’t fought in a while

Kim: I know I will

Sally drops Kim off the studio and Kim goes to the dressing room

Gabby:* cracking her fingers* I will break all your f***ing bones You’ll be in the hospital longer than your son!

Kim: I like to see you try you filth b!cth!

Gabby: man do you have a death wish?

Kim: it seems like you do because you don’t know how to give up!

Gabby:* spits out her gum* your dead hard to destroy lizard!

Kim: your funeral dusty bubblegum!

Meanwhile, with tobor, talus and Sally

Tobor: where is mommy?

Sally: she is at a boxing match

Talus: when will she be back?

Sally: once her match is done * turns on the tv* oh it looks like the match has started

Talus: look its mommy!

Sally: that’s right!

Tobor: if I ever recover will I be as strong as mommy?

Sally: yes you will

Tobor: yay!!

They watch the game for a few minutes but them Kim took a punch to the face and it looks like she broke her jaw but somehow Kim kept fighting but tobor didn’t see it he had to get more chemo treatment

Talus:* starts crying* no mommy!

Sally:* hugs talus* hay hay it’s ok mommy will be ok I’m sure

Talus:* crying* o-ok

15 minutes later Kim is brought to the hospital for a cast

Tobor: what’s wrong with mommy?

Linda: your mommy got very hurt

Tobor: will she be ok?

Linda: yes but she won’t be able to talk for awhile

Tobor: can I see her?

Linda: yes remember that your mommy can’t talk

Tobor: ok grandma

Linda takes tobor to Kim’s room

Tobor:* hugs kim* mommy!

Kim:* pats tobor on the head*

Tobor: when will mommy be back?

Linda: she won’t be out for two or so months but you can visit her regularly if you want

Tobor: ok grandma did you win your boxing match?

Kim:* picks up tobor and nods yes*

Tobor: so I can get more medicine?

Kim:* nods yes*

Sally: that’s great kim!!

Talus: hay I want to be pick up to!!

Kim:* picks up talus*

Sally: awww

Two months later Kim goes to dreamers and marcelines castle

Kim:* bows down* you’re majesty I need to talk to you

Marceline: yes what is it?

Kim: well I want to propose to Sally and I don’t have any money for a ring and I know that you like making jewelry so… I figured I ask you

Marceline: yes I will help just give me a drawing of what you want and help me get materials

Kim: do I need to pay?

Marceline: no I said, just give me materials and give me a sketch of what you want

Kim: ok i need some paper and pencil

Marceline and Kim go to marcelines craft room and hands Kim a paper and pencil and Kim sketches out a ring that looks like a sakura

Marceline: that seems simple go get me some rose quartz and silver

Kim: ok

Kim:* gets the materials and bring them back to Marceline* here when should this be done?

Marceline: next week, the 19th

Kim: ok thank you

Kim goes back to the apartment and finds Sally in the living room reading a book

Kim: hay Sally do you want to go on a date to the beach next week?

Sally: sure it’s been a while since we had gone out! When are we going?

Kim: the 19th

Sally: is this going to be a date on the beach or dinner and then a walk on the beach?

Kim: whatever you wanna do sweetheart

Sally: I want to get dinner first and then walk around the beach

Kim: ok we should go in the evening so we can watch the sunset

Sally: oh you know what I want to see you strong romantic lady

Kim: anything for you princess

Meanwhile with tobor on the hospital playground

Ace: how long have you been here for?

Tobor: a few months

Ace: why?

Tobor: I have cancer

Ace: oh will you live?

Tobor: my mommy’s say I will why are you in here?

Ace: I broke one of my legs

Tobor: oh so you would only be here for a little bit?

Ace: yea

A week later

Marceline:* hands the ring to kim*so I finish the ring a little bit earlier than expected and I talked to dreamer and you and sally can have your wood in our backyard

Kim: really do I need to pay for anything?

Marceline: no you guys should just deal with invitations and food and stuff

Kim; thank you!

Tobor: where are you and mommy going?

Kim: to the beach

Talus: ohh can we come?!

Kim: oh I’m sorry boys but this is something just for me and mama but grandma Linda and grandpa John with you

I want to - I need to see the kids one last time.” Rigantona nodded and stood up too. “May the Sun bless you with light, and the Earth give you strength to stand.” She hugged him tightly. “Drag them all with you to the purgatory.” Her whisper was ripe with fury. “As many as I can.”

"Opera Beneath Aperture": Where the Geekenders version is vaudeville, mine is more pop-opera in the style of "Phantom" or "Wicked". Basically just remixing the soundtrack and adding lyrics. There will be comedy, but at the end of the day, playing the melodrama of "Portal 2" straight is just easier. (Progress 30%)

"Rat Race": An homage to the US "The Office", but one by one the characters are axed off as Aperture becomes a more and more dystopian place to work. (Progress 10%)

"Portrait of a Lady: A Romanticized Horror": Prequel character-study on Caroline, obviously. She's preppy like Kim, but being born in the 1930's she's more sexually repressed, and therefore even more of a manic-pixie-nightmare-girl. She blacks out and murders her gynecologist for malpractice in Chapter 3; yeah it's that kind of a story. Also she's pretty racist? To the extent that any person from that era running a dystopian secessionist megacorporation would have to be. (Progress 50%)

Better Call Saul:

"Sheepdog": A traumatic event causes Kim to question the nature of her own reality. We the fans love Kim... but we do not respect her. (Progress 50%)

"Slippin Kimmy": This is my SERIOUS entry for what I think should happen next in the story. Basically a lot of white-hat Heisenberging around. She stops a shooting at a Planned Parenthood in episode 2; yeah it's that kind of a story. If that's what "WYCARO" ends up being, I'll be happy. If not? Hey it's free money, Vince. I'll just leave it on the table 'til you're done being done again. (Progress 5%)

"Last Clear Chance Doctrine": In 6x05 Jimmy calls Kim to say he's going to be late; Howard wants to fight him in the ring. Kim says she'll be right over. (Progress 0%)

"Just Take the Money": Parallel "Breaking Bad" timeline, where Walt accepts Eliot's hand-out. It'll make you wish he had stuck to cooking meth. I'm probably going to include a subplot where Saul bangs Skyler cus it makes me smile. (Progress 0%)

Crossovers/Other:

Steven Universe: "Warp Congestion": Steven figures out how to remove his gem and live as a normal human for extended periods of time. And if you think this sounds like a contrivance to write Rose Quartz back into the story... it is! Pearl was supposed to hold onto the gem for the day, but as the administrative headaches of helping to keep Little Homeworld organized pile up, Rainbow Quartz starts to revert back to v 1.0. (Progress 5%)

Steven Universe: "Roughhousing": You ever have those moments with your spouse, where one minute you're joking around and everything seems fine, and then one little comment gets taken wrong and suddenly everything gets a bit ugly? Even Ruby and Sapphire have those moments. And it made for one hell of a night at Beach City Underground Wrestling. (Progress 100%... but it's in the format of a Torts practice exam. Yes really)

Barry: "A Plan for Sally": My OC, Rita, has been going around to various netflix shows and selling life-insurance and family planning policies to the love-interest characters in crime dramas. Well, Rita will call them "insurance policies"; what they really are are Faustian bargains. If you thought the ending to "Barry" was weird, rushed, or maybe even a little saccharine, Rita is why. (Progress 0%)

Midnight Mass: "The Girl Who Ate the World": Erin Greene wakes up lying in the grass to find herself - not just alive - but sparkling in the sun like a million little diamonds. It's a miracle! Second only to the bad-miracle of news that the Angel survived and is transforming people in the Portland subway system as we speak. Rita is in this one too. (Progress 50%)

"Crack Fic: Torts and Torts": Kim Wexler, Dolores Abernathy, and Love Quinn attend a mobwives convention in Napoli. After a few drinks, Kim and Love get into a tense conversation about dead brothers, and more specifically when/how a spouse is at-fault for the death of a brother-in-law. Kim forgets the argument after she sobers up, but Dolores warns her to watch her back. Sure enough, Love attacks Kim with a katana and they must battle it out as frenemies. (Progress 2%)

"300 Million Cowboys": I re-write Better Call Saul as a pulpy beach-read about vampires. With enough changes to the plot that it can be legally sold on Kindle. Kim is now named Jean Troy. Jimmy is now named Sammy McCormick. Mike and Chuck have been merged into one character. Kevin and Howard have been merged into one character. (Progress 2%)
