The cutest little ooky-spooky thing just happened, for those who enjoy such things:

I was doing a little morning reading with my favorite deck, for the first time since November because I've been traveling, and was shuffling and talking aloud about how I missed it because it always read with such compassion and wisdom...and then the Page of Cups jumped out and landed face up on the table.

I instantly went AWWWWW, because here is what the lwb for that deck says about the Page of Cups, verbatim:

"The sensitive, intuitive Page of Cups is there for you when you need her most. If you need a shoulder to cry on, she will be there to listen and to offer advice."

That's just such a lovely thing to happen, I think.

legitimately going insane trying to code a local storage key for both collapsed navigation bar and dark mode and half of this i copied from some other dude whose code i also couldn’t get to work when i typed letter to letter as per the tutorial video

also just have to revamp the whole navigation bar because said collapse menu has a button chevron that just rotates and honestly kinda just want to use flex boxes so that clicking around is made easier & you don’t have to click on just one button

Major problem is that every class is worded differently and now I gotta go through not only fixing the navigation but also sizing for the main content. This will also affect the god damn dark mode switch that just loves to not work.

What do you do in your free time besides art?

Well, art does take up a lot of my free time, but besides that I watch A LOT of YouTube video essays and gaming videos. I also am learning to knit and have a few projects I’m tackling right now (I consider this an actual hobby of mine, but technically it’s an art form). Hmm,, currently I dance and go for walks with my cats outside because it’s warm and year round I read (usually fanfiction). Uhhh, I also chip away at different chores or cook when I procrastinate other projects :3

Do you have any advice for writing with brain fog? I've always struggled with putting my thoughts into words, but it's been getting more difficult lately (and so has thinking tbh)

Brain fog, unfortunately, is not something you can work yourself out off. Whatever the cause, your brain needs time to heal, and that can be a long, frustrating process.

But you don't have to assume you will never write again. People can and have written books while dealing with head injuries, recovering from long covid, and more.

Find those periods of productivity. Brain fog saps your energy, and trying to push through a lack of energy is only going to make it worse. Before you force yourself to sit down and write, take a week or so tracking the moments of your day when you feel like you have more energy. If you can, carve out those moments to sit down and write.

Rest when you need to rest. Don't beat yourself up if you got an hour of writing done one day, but only fifteen minutes done the next. Energy comes and goes, and being willing to listen to your body and being flexible will work much better than trying to force yourself to a rigid schedule.

Leave a lot of gaps. Can't figure out a scene? Write down your goals for it and keep going. Can't work out that complicated fight scene? Note the results and move on. You can tackle these parts when you have the ability to focus on them. Don't let the hard parts paralyze you from making progress.

Change the medium (and/or environment). Staring at a screen could be part of the issue. Try drafting by hand. Hell, get a typewriter if you can afford it and see if that helps break through some of the slog. You can also try switching up where you write as well. If the weather's good, try writing outside for awhile. A public library might have quiet rooms you can reserve to use to write. Some people get much of their writing in the bathroom. Whatever works!

Use the rubber duck method. The "rubber duck method" is basically having something to talk through your plot problems at. It can be a buddy, a teddy bear, or your cat. Talking out loud about something allows your brain to think about it in a different way. You can also try recording your plotting thoughts while writing or walking.

Please feel free to try the above one at a time, and give yourself some time to adjust to see if it is working for you. You can do this!

Have a rubber duck on your desk just so you can verbally explain your problem, which could help you solve it by actually hearing it out loud. But a side effect of this is now Red Son will talk to himself while he works, even if it does help it still freaks his parents out hearing him mumbling to himself when they pass his room. Arthur Weasley’s fascination with Muggle inventions knew no bounds, and as Charlie’s partner, you had long since accepted that part of your relationship meant answering his father’s never-ending stream of questions. Today, you found yourself in the Burrow’s kitchen, explaining two very different, yet equally perplexing, Muggle objects to Arthur—airplanes and rubber ducks.

Arthur sat across from you, eyes gleaming with excitement, as he eagerly leaned in. “Now, tell me again—how does a plane fly? There’s no magic involved, and yet it stays in the air?” His voice was filled with pure wonder, as if the concept itself was more impossible than dragons breathing fire.

You smiled, exchanging an amused glance with Charlie, who was barely holding back laughter. “Right, so airplanes rely on something called aerodynamics. The wings are designed in a special shape that helps create lift. When the engines push the plane forward, the air moves over and under the wings at different speeds. This difference in pressure makes the plane rise.”

Arthur gasped, gripping the edge of the table. “Fascinating! The air lifts it? But… how does it stay up? Surely it should fall at some point?”

“Well, as long as the engines keep providing thrust and the wings keep generating lift, it stays in the air,” you explained patiently. “Of course, when it needs to land, the pilot reduces the speed, and the plane comes down gently.”

Arthur’s mouth opened and closed, his brain clearly working overtime to process this completely non-magical feat. “Incredible. Utterly incredible! And you say Muggles travel in these all the time?”

Charlie finally spoke up, grinning. “Yeah, Dad. And they don’t even think twice about it.”

Arthur shook his head in pure amazement before his expression shifted into one of equal seriousness. “And… what of the rubber duck? What function does it serve?”

You stifled a laugh, having expected this question at some point. “Well… it doesn’t really do anything. It’s just a bath toy for children. You know, something to make bath time fun.”

Arthur frowned deeply, as though this answer troubled him on a profound level. “So… it has no purpose?”

Charlie groaned playfully, rubbing his face. “Dad, you’ve asked this for years, and the answer hasn’t changed.”

“But surely,” Arthur insisted, eyes darting between you and Charlie, “there must be some hidden use. Perhaps a clever storage device? A method of detecting magical interference? A secret message carrier?” He looked utterly scandalized at the idea that Muggles would create something purely for fun.

You chuckled, reaching over to pat his hand. “I promise you, Arthur—it’s just a toy.”

Arthur sat back, still looking dubious, as if he refused to believe Muggles would make something with absolutely no practical function.
