Ryan-Posting again! ♡
Otherwise Titled: a stressed Orphan and her protective Guardians.
Ryan gets her Found Family .2 seconds after entering the Armada Ship. Subodai watches her back from the start, and his take is basically: That's a child. She's capable, yeah, and a great leader, but she's a child. I'm protecting her with my life. He effectively becomes her Dad. (As well as her First-Mate)
And then, of course, there's Dead Mike. He's like her uncle. He was the one person who didn't ever abandon her or her parents (willingly) and he swore his afterlife to avenge her family, and now to care for her. He's a big softy, and the moment he realized Ryan was still alive, he swore to be there for her till his second death.
And, as it goes, I also love the concept that Ryan is generally pretty harmless-looking when she first starts her adventures. No name for herself, she doesn't speak, and her actions are sneaky so people rarely know it was her who hit them. Until she becomes more infamous, Dead Mike and Subodai act as her big scary goons. They hit hard and w/o hesitation if Ryan orders it.
(Also picturing Ryan ready to tear someone to pieces, but she's already low on health, and Ratbeard or Steele holding Ryan back with Subodai and Mike roll up their sleeves and go demolish the enemy. And/or Armada coming by in a town, and Ryan ducking behind Subodai and clinging to his hand (hoof?) As she uses him as a wall between her fear and herself.)

TOP GUN 1986
That was some of the best flying I've seen yet. Right up to the part where you got killed. You never, never leave your wing man.

Top Gun (1986, dir. Tony Scott) - review by Rookie-Critic
Tumblr media
Top Gun is unintentional homoeroticism at its peak. I mean, come on, they had to have noticed, right? It's so in your face. Ok, i just had to get that off my (bare) chest. On a more seriously analytical note, the romance between Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis just doesn't work and the volleyball scene, while definitely iconic and very fun (I mean COME ON, they're playing "Playing with the Boys" by Kenny Loggins over this! They had to have known what they were doing! Ok, sorry, sorry, I'll move on for real now), feels like it's from a completely different movie. It's so 80s it almost hurts, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's just so glaring. On the positive side, the acting is good, with Anthony Edwards particularly standing out as Goose. His and Maverick's witty relationship is, to me, the high point of the whole film. That, and anytime there's a flight sequence. That aerial camerawork is just phenomenal. The final dogfight especially was massively entertaining. It's not without some pretty significant flaws, but it is still a very entertaining watch and I can't deny the influence it has had.
Score: 6/10
Currently streaming on Paramount+.
I don't want to discount that this was actually, literally used as a propaganda/recruitment tool by the U.S. military, which is obviously atrocious and the worst kind of horrible. This review is just looking at the film itself.

For Sparta! | Part 11 | Spiteful And Bitter
#FM24 #ForSparta! Part 11: Spiteful And Bitter. The King Leonidas reign at @SpartansFC comes to an abrupt end as, despite being overwhelming favourites to go down, his board gets itchy feet after a record-breaking run of bad form. Read here:
The unorthodox approach of King Leonidas wasn’t for everyone, but it had certainly endeared The Spartans FC to the Scottish football neutrals. Leonidas’ relentless focus on players with high aggression, bravery, composure, concentration, determination, positioning, stamina, strength and work rate in a bid to build a Spartan Army had seen the club rise from League 2 to the Premiership in nine…

P101 oc lore ramble beneath the cut!
Sooo Corwin, right?
He was born a pirate, but escaped to Krokotopia after his parents were found doing magic by the Armada and killed. He's been in Krokotopia learning fighting and magic, but I like to think that he was one of the few students of the Balance school who managed to study there, even before the yw recovered the school for Ravenwood.
Leech chose to spread his balance knowledge with the rest of the Spiral, hense why he was caught and imprisoned by the Armada, but after that point he wants nothing to do with them. He just wants to go back home. To Krokotopia.
He studies under Madam Vadima for a few years (he's lurking around when Ryan and Griffin bring in the Wizard they found) but ultimately he realizes he never wanted to be a Witchdoctor. He was a balance wizard.
So, when Ryan and Griffin have hold of Blueflower, the yw, he insists on trailing them in the shadows, and when the yw returns home, he's left to ponder if he should follow them or not.
For now Leech is remaining as a pirate, his ship is pretty well cloaked and he usually only steps in when he needs to, but his plan is to simply find a way to Wizard City and return to his Balance Studies. Unfortunately, the Armada is always in the way of that progress.
