Text rendering once again with vulkan + sdl3, this time implemented and put together how I wanted originally and much much better.

The material/shader is reusable, the only unique data per text render is the text content and its underlying mesh.

Turns out you CAN run Quake 4 as a native Wayland client, and thanks to SDL 1.2 -> SDL 2 -> SDL3 compatibility layers (lol) you can get audio via PipeWire. And OpenGL -> Zink for Vulkan.

It's like the game wasn't released in 2005 at all.

Another iteration of vulkan+sdl3, and once again in c# without a garbage collector in sight. This time the renderer is actually decent to look at haha, now theres proper materials, shaders and sprites working woo.
