Challenger's Path: Spiramonster

I wanted to go balls to the wall and make a whole sprite, but I think I'll have to settle for drawn if I want to be able to do anything w/ Zero for this event, so! His spiramonster is an orange creature that resembles a Brachiosaur mixed with Zero himself. It's roughly the size of a horse, but refuses to be ridden. Reference under the cut.

Behemon Abilites

Dash - It runs forward and lashes out with it's tail like a whip. Roll - It curls up in a ball and rolls at it's target. Throw - It pulls a random item from... somewhere and throws it with it's tail. Redo - Once per battle when it would suffer a fatal wound dealt by an enemy it instead restores to full health. Damage dealt by status effects will still kill it.

Challenger's Path: Spiramonster

Just like Vash, Knives has a little fluffy chicken for a Spiramon. You can see an example of what it looks like here. It's quiet and has a look that could kill, if it wasn't so cute. It's the size of a chicken, but it can puff up it's feathers to appear twice as big when startled.

Abilities

Feather Fury - it pulls small knife like feathers from it's fluff and throws them. Wing Scythe - It's wing shifts into a long scythe-like appendage that cuts real good. Fly - It flys real high then dives. Resonate - In a double battle, it can buff it's partner. the effect is even better on a copy of Vash's spiramon. Absorb - Absorbs some of the target's life to heal itself.

There's a similar shift in attitude when the other man introduces himself as Aurelius Vane-Tempest. It lacks the same warmth, but it isn't hard to sense that's just because Knives is not one who can be described as particularly warm. Instead, he seems to relax and regard Aurelius with a more genuine sense of respect only slightly dulled by an air of suspicion. Praise on either count came at a time when Knives and Legato's relationship was different and the plant can't really be blamed for regarding anyone who might react so warmly to the man he was with caution.

"Ah, yes. I do recall Legato mentioning he met an Aurelius during that trouble with the islands," Knives nods, retracting his hand to clasp both behind his back. "I take no offense, of course. The majority do disappoint."

"It's good to have the chance to put a face to the man. You've been well?"

「✧」 That's a shame, Aurelius thought, even as he readied himself to politely refuse the handshake. Though the stranger wears his arrogance with a charming sort of carelessness, it is still pride at its core, a trait he has too well in himself to share nicely with another. Hearing that the man never saw Ardere gave them even less excuse to stick together. He could consider his intel a work of pure charity instead of a loss, though it was a shame that—

The name gave him pause.

Inside his mind the dots connect, eyes visibly brighten as the sight of dark hair and blue eyes harken to blue and gold he'd met somewhere else. The stiff formality and pretense of cheer fell away from the angel's features, giving way to a natural warmth that eased out a genuine smile. Subconsciously or not, he'd defaulted to his attitude when speaking to Klaus.

"Is that so? Then forgive me for my impudence."

"Aurelius Vane-Tempest, though you may also call me as you wish. I've had the fortune of meeting your man and hear him speak highly of you."

He paused, and then in an unusual display of frankness, admitted his thoughts.

"I'm afraid I've developed a habit of dismissing others in this island. The majority do seem primed to...disappoint."

Random Mario headcanon: while Peach does have powerful magic, she actually doesn’t know how to use it, at least not by herself. Basically to use her magic she needs to trigger a “spark” of sorts, but has no idea how to do so and as a result can’t use it unless someone else triggers that spark for her.

Explaining how it works in the games’ canon and giving some more details on my Toadstool magic hcs (spoilers for pretty much all the RPGs + Showtime’s ending; 1k words below):

- In Paper Mario 64, Kammy calls Peach’s action “wishes from normal people”, meaning she’s not using any particular magic.

- In Thousand Years Door, she uses healing magic upon regaining some control from the Shadow Queen. Considering the Shadow Queen is using magic, possibly Peach’s magic, it means Peach could have been able to access it in the moment.

- In Mario and Luigi Partners in Time, the Cobalt Star could have been the one with the magic to imprison Elder Princess Shroob, or it triggered Peach’s magic. Though the fact Peach can summon stars at the end kinda shows she can use magic on her own.

- In Bowser’s Inside Story and Dream Team, Peach only uses magic when Starlow is using her own magic as well, meaning Starlow could be the one triggering hers.

- Ok I’ll be honest I can’t explain it for Super Mario RPG other than “she’s not actually using magic” or “Geno is a spirit of the stars so his presence would unlock her powers”, though in that second case it doesn’t even fully work since the whole point of the team looking for stars is that wishes can’t be granted anymore.

- In Showtime, Peach’s magic ribbon comes from Stella, same for the outfits. Her Radiant transformation also comes from the hopes and dreams of the Theets fused with Sparkles and Stella. I could also see Stella triggering Peach’s magic in the case of the ribbon + Radiant.

- In Super Princess Peach, you could imagine that the Vibe Scepter is basically letting out “particles” of emotions in the air, and when one touches someone, it affects them. For Peach, her magic would protect her by absorbing those particles, but it also causes her magic to accumulate them.

Because of that, whenever she feels a strong emotion, all those particles her magic gathered get released at once, thus giving her those powers. So the powers wouldn’t come from her using her magic willingly, instead her magic does its own thing and she has to realize it and work around it.

As a result, she can control when the powers get triggered by keeping calm as much as possible and thinking of happy/sad/angering things when needed (or other methods like pinching herself to cry or asking Perry to insult her to get angry, dumb funny things like that).

This could also explain why there’s a timer that then needs to be refilled when using emotions or even why emotional enemies don’t get powers like she does but instead just move faster or in a different pattern, as they would have less emotions in them since the first particle that touches them would influence them.

- In case it needs to be said, everyone in the sports games have special abilities so I don’t consider those to be her using magic.

So yeah, while there are obviously instances of her using healing magic that negates this idea, it still holds up to an extent. And it’s especially interesting to headcanon when you consider how many RPG villains know how to exploit her magic for themselves (Cackletta, Fawful, the Shadow Queen, Antasma tried before turning to Bowser, I like to think the Chaos Heart was born from an exchange of two widely different magics with the wedding being the ritual needed to create the heart specifically).

Going deeper into this idea, I hc that in the past all Toads had magic but the Royal Family eventually discouraged everyone from using it aside from them. History books would say it’s to protect the population, the truth is that the Monarchy wanted that power for themselves and/or were afraid of the people taking over the throne if they can be more powerful than them (especially since I hc that it’s common for rulers to marry citizens, as long as said citizen is able to handle the work that goes with becoming royalty; this is also why each kingdom still has a ruler the same species as them after centuries of those kingdoms existing).

There would still be some Toads who kept their magic (like the doctor from Bowser’s Inside Story) but they would be incredibly rare on top of trying to keep it a secret just in case them having it is forbidden as there would be no written law saying what is and isn’t allowed on that front.

As such, the knowledge of how to use these powers is told from parent to child, with sometimes another person being given the info in case the rulers die before their heir is of age to learn. In Peach’s case, her parents’ death was a complete surprise, meaning no-one had that knowledge.

So for the longest time, she didn’t even think she had magic. And when the RPGs happened, she would’ve tried to use it herself but can’t find the thing triggering its use, taking a while to come to terms with the fact that she could never use it by herself, but that doesn’t mean she can’t be a hero in a different way.

And for those asking why doesn’t she use a Koopa wand, this goes into this idea of the Chaos Heart being born from mixing Koopa and Toadstool magic. She’s afraid that trying to learn the Koopa ways of using magic might cause another catastrophe, which it probably would.

Last small thing, outside of angst the main reason for this headcanon is to justify both Peach never using magic outside of RPGs and the fact she goes from being able to yeet Bowser out the window in one game to being completely helpless against two paratroopas holding her in the very next game of the same series. Basically it’s to explain the inconsistencies with it.

It can also justify the Mushroom Kingdom not falling into the hands of Koopas, Goombas etc before Mario and Luigi were around despite Toads being unable to defend themselves in the present time (basically the Toadstool family was able to use their magic to boost the strength of their army, which Peach can’t do).

It would be a lie to say that Knives isn't a little bit jealous that this Zwijo seems to have an entire dragon as a Spiramonster. Meanwhile, his is perched on his shoulder looking like a ball of feathers. It makes a soft cooing noise at the other man, and Knives crosses his arms.

"Millions Knives," He answers curtly. "I do. What do you plan to do about it?"

Having a monster to duel with again immediately lightens Zwijo's spirits, so the first thing he does, naturally, is go out seeking other people with these spiramonsters to battle. It's not the same as a Rush Duel, but it's better than nothing.

As it happens, the first person he finds on the app is Knives. Zwijo approaches, Requiem behind him. "Hello, I am Zwijo zir Velgear," he says, dipping his head with a hand to his chest. "I see you have one of these spiramonsters as well."

So I'm going through the quotes from Super paper mario and everything and casually wander over to the tattles that tippi makes when assessing the NPCs in flipside and some idea just smacked me in the face:

Tippi was an outsider to this town before she met Blumiere, right? What if, every time she talks about knowing the people of flipside... it was only a matter of reciting what blumiere knew or had previously known about the people of flipside.

In their past, maybe Blumiere and Tippi went out on a date and they went people watching. Blumiere decides to tell her everything he knows of the residents while they sit on a park bench watching them walk by.

Then, in turn, every time she recounts those convos when telling Mario who the people are, her memories gradually start to become more vivid and this is how she eventually remembers Count bleck or Blumiere...

Remade my Mario references. Again. Again. I did Luigi too but he's gonna be in a different post so I can talk about the Mario stuff.

Not shown here is the fact that during SPM, Mario got a pretty nasty scar on his chest thanks to Mr. L snapping at him and launching it at him.

The stitches on his buttons are green, to match Luigi's. Similarly, Mario has green and white striped socks (not pictured because this isn't a fullbody)

The drawstrings on his hoodie match Luigi's star earrings

He has a cut in his eyebrow, which also came from SPM. I like to think he got it during the same incident that gave Luigi his eye scar, so after one of the Brobot fights

After the events of Odyssey, Mario's hat reverted back to a small piece of fabric, since Cappy only temporarily fixed it by turning into the hat. As a thank you for everything, Cappy and the Bonnetons fixed the hat up for Mario, incorporating the single surviving piece of it, since that hat is very important to him (he was born in that hat!!!)

I understand why people voted how they did on a surface level + not many people knowing about Reclusa in comparison but if im allowed to have a category 5 autism event for a second- I genuinely think Dimentio is one of the LEAST evil characters here

but hear me out.

At the start of the game when Team Bleck are talking about their ideal worlds, O'Chunks makes a comment about removing war and strife- and Dimentio agrees. Of course he could be bullshitting- He's not exactly the most honest character- but if we take this at face value, I don't think Dimentio's ideal world is torture murder land.

He only goes behind Blecks back at the revelation he wanted to leave all worlds in ruin- Which Dimentio seems to object to, heavily. If we dive even deeper into the autism hotpot here and follow the Dimentio = The Master Magicians survived son theory, he would have even had a family, and would have spent time with a mother, given Carson states they suffered an accident together.

Destroying all worlds is terrible, yes, and he delights in squeezing the life out of Bleck near the end of the game, but he's fairly polite otherwise? He even engages in pointless fun like stealing Mimi's diary. I think theres alot more to him than "psycho who wants to rule and torture the universe." Is this an unpopular opinion?

Childmentio AU, which we made for fun.

After the events of SPM, a child version of Dimentio is found despite the fact that he's supposed to be dead. Dimi has no idea what his older self did, nor does he recognize anyone his older self met. As far as he's concerned, he abruptly woke up in an unfamiliar town (that being Flipside) full of people who look like they're going to have a heart attack when they see his face or hear his name.

Dimentio in an ancient-style fit (Mermentio? Mertio?) + 12th pixl

in my lore post, i talk about how i think dimentio was merloo’s mentor. I like to imagine he was very lowkey and his presence was lost to time, deliberately overshadowed by his student. He mentored merloo so as to get him to write the light prognosticus as a means of countering the dark one and creating a vulnerability in the prophecy for him to exploit later in the events of SPM. I additionally talk about dimentio's mask originating with the dead pixl who died during the events of the pixl war. these are just designs going off ideas from that post

-ancients have this really obvious gendered way of dressing, and i wanted dimentio to blur those lines, hence giving him the robes and headpiece of a man but the face veil and headpiece adornments of a woman. hes slaying

-speaking of facial decorations, dimentio isnt wearing his mask yet here. I hc he only starts wearing it around when he starts interacting with bleck (along with the jester fit as a whole)

-i decided to turf the stripes on his fit since it made him look too much like the dimentio we know as opposed to an ancient, as well as there was no ancients with similar patterning.

-to be real dimentio’s canon design is already very reminiscent of an ancient, particularly in the context of the rest of SPM’s designs and how crazy they can get. The basic shape of his hat already looks like a plausible ancient headpiece (like a combination of merlimbis and merlight), and merlumina has similar decal placements on her headpiece. theres also centre brooch that male ancients wear; dimentio’s diamond is similar. They both even have yellow eyes.

-the only real differences are dimentio’s leg and hands, both of which are monochrome and lined with white instead of black, almost emphasizing that they do not ‘fit’ the rest of the look or were added on unnaturally.

-his mask is also monochrome but not lined with white. My reason for this is since I think his mask is what remains of his old pixl, it’s not alien with respect to the ancients (hence not being lined with white), but not an authentic part of him (hence being monochrome)

Mom!Tippi

Wouldn’t it be so tragic if Timpani had been that much closer to Bleck this entire time? If potentially Luigi were to meet and befriend her, neither having the slightest clue who the other is, prior to the events of SPM? And by the time they do all realize who everyone is and fully reunite, they only have like 5mins max to cherish it before two of them have to sacrifice their lives to save the third :)

Then on the other hand it’s also lowkey kinda hilarious?

Tippi is just kinda going through the motions with the prophecy. No memories and very little sense of self, she’s putting all her focus on the Pure Hearts and stopping the Void. Very… clinical-like. And gradually she starts to open up more to Mario & Co, grows a bit more lively and starts remembering things.

Like her lost love.

So imagine her surprise as things are starting to click and she’s piecing things together, and for the latest piece to the puzzle, there’s her exchange with Bleck when the group’s confronted by the Count in Sammer’s Kingdom. And then he not only mentions the name “Timpani”, which is very familiar for some reason, but also mentions a son.

There are many questions once she’s got her full memories back. At least she thinks so, but she certainly doesn’t remember having a child with Blumiere before they were torn apart and she was cursed to wander dimensions forever! Who IS this child? Where did he come from? What does this mean? Does this make her a mom? Will the child want her as a mom? Can she be a good mom? This was way less terrifying and complicated when it was just saving all reality from violent oblivion!

At first she thinks it’s Mr. L based off observations from the heroes’ fights against him. But then surprise! It’s actually Luigi! The sweetheart boy she’s known and befriended a few years prior to the adventure… how they were this close to have preventing it altogether had they figured it out sooner.

Picture the final thing that confirms for them both without a doubt their shared connections to Blumiere with the MOTI song that’s the duet to the Memory/Bounding Through Time track. A cherished melody between the lovers when they were together, that was also used as a lullaby for Luigi as a kid when he had nightmares.

Btw Luigi and Tippi being amnesia buddies throughout Ch7 Underwhere and Overthere segment is super cute. Criminal that this wasn’t capitalized on in the game either, like c’mon! Amnesia Buddies! Just supporting each other and helping the other get through the more intense flashbacks when they hit in addition to quest/adventure stuff.

Makes Luvbi’s teasing comments hinting that Tippi’s got a crush on Mario, Luigi or both a lot more awkward, tho.

That awkward moment when you accidentally call your mom friend “mom” out loud to their face, but it later turns out she was your actual mom the whole time.

It’s hard to hug on account of Tippi being a butterfly Pixl, but she carries the intent when she sits on Luigi’s nose and stretches her wings out across his face as best she can.

…I have far too much to say on potential relationships between characters that barely interact canonically.

i think the funny thing about that, too, is that even though tippi and luigi don't get much together, tippi does have some VERY strong opinions on mr. l (calling him greasy, saying he's weak, and her tattle on him specifically says he has 'no other outstanding features of note') so if she thinks mr. l is bleck's son (instead of luigi) i'm sure her first reaction would be... Interesting... LMAO

Just imagine, Mr L pierced his ears during the events of spm. (It’s not a phase mom) And Luigi coming back to is trying to figure out last time and hella confused why his ears are pierced. Like he never drinks during missions what the heck is going on?!?! Luigi just slowly accepting after the events of spm that his ears are pierced and he has a cuff. 😂

Mr L would probably get something very loudly his brand, like, you know, a cuff shaped like an L

Hey bleck had you try to apologize to Luigi for brainwashing him and well for everything else to everyone?

Blumiere's apologized thousands of times to Flipside and other towns/people, they just tend to angry mob up whenever he's around. Blumiere's new business is focused on hospitality and giving back to those he hurt.

Even though SPM events definitely affected Luigi, he's a pretty forgiving person. He probably doesn't care much anymore seeing how his Bro & Peach are chiller with Blumiere now as well.
