Challenger's Path: Spiramonster

I wanted to go balls to the wall and make a whole sprite, but I think I'll have to settle for drawn if I want to be able to do anything w/ Zero for this event, so! His spiramonster is an orange creature that resembles a Brachiosaur mixed with Zero himself. It's roughly the size of a horse, but refuses to be ridden. Reference under the cut.

Behemon Abilites

Dash - It runs forward and lashes out with it's tail like a whip. Roll - It curls up in a ball and rolls at it's target. Throw - It pulls a random item from... somewhere and throws it with it's tail. Redo - Once per battle when it would suffer a fatal wound dealt by an enemy it instead restores to full health. Damage dealt by status effects will still kill it.

Challenger's Path: Spiramonster

Just like Vash, Knives has a little fluffy chicken for a Spiramon. You can see an example of what it looks like here. It's quiet and has a look that could kill, if it wasn't so cute. It's the size of a chicken, but it can puff up it's feathers to appear twice as big when startled.

Abilities

Feather Fury - it pulls small knife like feathers from it's fluff and throws them. Wing Scythe - It's wing shifts into a long scythe-like appendage that cuts real good. Fly - It flys real high then dives. Resonate - In a double battle, it can buff it's partner. the effect is even better on a copy of Vash's spiramon. Absorb - Absorbs some of the target's life to heal itself.

Replaying some SPM to eventually get back into writing mode and the cut scene with Luigi in Bleck's Castle is SO INFORMATIVE.

The Goombas, Kevin and who I would like to call Gary, have his number, his checking account, and his home address in terms of manipulating him. The foreshadowing to the Mr. L persona is just delicious. That overblown ego tied with deep insecurity about not only his skills, but his comparison to his brother didn't come from nowhere, and it doesn't look like those issues weren't such a closely-kept secret in the Darklands.

"I was saving Princess Peach, but I screwed it up..."

And doesn't that just tug at the heart strings? You didn't screw it up, Luigi. You just happened to stomp on a trillions-of-years-old cosmic force of destruction and unleash chaos throughout the dimensions. Hell, he even put a wrench in Bleck's plans by doing that. Doomed by the narrative, our boy is.

"A daring defender? ...Me?"

He doubts their words (and well he should, not because they're necessarily untrue but meant to manipulate). But he both doesn't believe he's worthy of that appellation and yet desires it so badly.

"My fans need me!"

The commentary by Gary here spells it out. It was way too easy.

"Must...stroke...ego."

There it is, laid out for everyone. They know Luigi has overcompensation issues. The inversion of this, the low self-regard turned outwards - manifests in Mr. L.

The killing blow, so to speak. Gary and Kevin are acutely aware of Luigi's secondary status in relation to his brother. I wonder how many others caught onto this. No wonder Mr. L built Brobot. No wonder he's always calling out Mario's style. He may love his brother, but the insecurity is real.

In hindsight, there's nothing all that shocking about Luigi's transformation into Mr. L. It's all laid out right here in this beautiful cut scene.

Waaaah Im glad you like it 🥹 i havent got too much on it as of right now but I have plans to develop it more once ive finished my uni project !!

as right now though here are some of the details/character roles:

Mario - Kirby Luigi - Bandee Bowser - Dedede Peach - either Tiff/Fumu (from the anime) or potentially Adeleine I haven't decided on that yet, originally i went straight for Fumu but i got a comment saying Adeleine would be a great fit too !! it all depends on whether i wanna include anime characters or not

Count Bleck - Meta Knight Tippi/Timpani - Galacta Knight (its their love story bc metagala forever 🫶) Nastasia - Sailor Dee O'chunks - Mace Knight Mimi - Javelin (the other meta-knights would be present too but have less of a role in the story as those 3)

Dimentio - Marx ^^^ originally i was gonna have vul as dimentio as i wanted all of count bleck's minions to be the meta-knights, but it also makes sense for the one non meta-knight character to be the one to betray them and marx just fits perfectly thematically >:)

as a little extra Merlon would be Morpho Knight which is my explanation for why Galacta Knight appears as a pixl butterfly, Morpho having the butterfly motif is my justification for the sense around galacta being their own butterfly that isnt just the morpho butterfly :)

okay now with characters done with,, the general narrative is the same destroying the world after galacta/tippi is "gone" but more fit around the ancients and heroes of yore lore being the driving point for meta and galacta meeting and forming a bond which then leads to the events of the game:

Meta's family (the tribe of darkness) were responsible for trying to end the world before using the dark prophecy (to make their own world and have the power to govern it) - meta being younger at this time had no say in what happened, Nightmare is the head of the family and the one who attempting to end the world (but thats not too important as nightmare plays no role in the main story anyways its just context).

The heroes of Yore (which includes Galacta as the hero of heart going off of my own personal hcs) were the ones to stop the family and strike some sort of deal that prevented them from using the dark prognosticus, saying if they were to try such a thing again then the heroes would be less merciful and banish the entire tribe away, knowing the heroes were more than powerful enough to live up to their threat the nightmare gave in, and the dark prognosticus was hidden away by the heroes to prevent the dark prophecy from being initiated once again.

Years down the line (much like in the original story) meta ends up getting injured and galacta comes across him, nursing him back to health. Meta didnt know about the heroes of yore and their threat to the family so wasnt aware of who galacta was, vice verca with galacta they werent aware meta was part of the tribe of darkness at the time. the two bond and eventually fall in love <3

Eventually nightmare finds out about and becomes enraged about his son and the enemy in such a relationship. He scolds meta and tells him not to go near Galacta again as the heroes 'ruined everything for them' and 'befriending them will only ever bring trouble to their family' in attempt to protect his son from them. however, meta doesn't listen as he's head over heels in love with Galacta at this point. In retaliation, Nightmare uses all of his magic to produce a strong spell to seal Galacta away in a crystal, in a far off dimension so Galacta and meta cannot meet again, as a way of protecting Meta and stopping any trouble from coming to their family.

Like in the original, Meta becomes devastated but enraged by the loss of Galacta, thinking they're dead and not seeing worth in a world without them. finding minions through the meta-knights and tracking down the dark prognosticus, Meta decides to bring about the dark prophecy and spawn the void, starting the beginning of the end.

Morpho comes across the crystal with galacta sealed within it. The amount of power needed to unseal them is a lot, and so Morpho not being powerful enough by themself, inwardly uses galactas life force alongside their own magical ability to unseal them, though this results in galacta becoming very weak and in order to save them, Morpho turns them into a pixl, and like tippi in the original story galacta loses all memory of who they were before being a pixl.

thats the main stuff i have for now which when looking over it,, is quite a bit 😅 there are still some aspects i need to adjust/change, the main one being the formation of the chaos heart bc if i have tiff/adeleine in peach's role i am not having them get forcefully married to king dedede 💀 for obvious reasons

^^ my initial thoughts are just having the chaos heart form from meta's pain and emotions, we will see i will be developing and thinking about it more once i have the free time :)

The themes of love are so good! This isn’t canon at all, but each Pure Heart can be loosely connected to a specific type of love. Red - from Merlon, paternal love for Tippi and/or love of life for the whole universe Orange - from Merlumina, romantic love, as she talks about how her love affairs could influence fate itself Yellow - from Merlee, kindness and aid shown to strangers Green - from Tippi! friendship and gratitude after being rescued, also she got a little crush on Mario then I think Blue - from Squirps, maternal love from his mother Squirpina XIV, although it must have pained her to leave her son, she ensured that he would be part of a better future Indigio - from King Croacus IV, material love, love of self Violet - from King Sammer, love of country and citizens, initially destroyed but restored by Jaydes, the Sammer Kingdom is also later restored by the Pure Hearts White - from Luvbi, familial love, love of parents to child and child to parents

And then when they’re restored at the end of the game, it’s not from the romantic love of Tippi and Count Bleck, but rather from O’Chunks’ and Mimi’s love for their boss! That’s some found family right there!

Fun fact! It was Dimentio that saved Peach from being brainwashed, if you listen closely you can hear his signature pinging noise as Peach is teleported away. I also like to think that he did care about the other minions, there is literally no explanation for how O’Chunks and Mimi got into Dimension D and he dumps Count Bleck and a (probably) unconscious Nastasia in there out of the way so maybe he was going to bring them all along since the dimension is his creation and should be attached to him. I’m also like 90% sure that he saved Bowser and Peach at the end there, it makes zero sense for Peach to have landed on Bowser, those rooms are nowhere near each other, unless Peach got teleported again. And the floor supposedly went out from under Bowser but he also could have been teleported. And while he needs Bowser and Peach to defeat Count Bleck for him, he didn’t need to save O’Chunks and Mimi while he was at it unless he cared a little bit in his cold, emotionally constipated heart.

That’s a whole headcanon that I really love and hold dear, in part due to the irony of him causing his own defeat by caring about his teammates. He doesn’t understand love to the point that he didn’t expect the Pure Hearts to be recharged, and while they could be recharged by any kind of love, it was specifically the love of the people he saved for the person he betrayed (yet didn’t kill on the spot) that recharged them. And he likely enabled them to all be in Dimension D at the same time. 

I know that they say something about Nastasia telling them to come there but once again, it’s Dimentio’s dimension, how did they get in, and why did Nastasia not warn the count earlier if she knew Dimentio was planning something, her taking a hit for him seems really last second. It’s all really suspicious, and Dimentio setting them all up to come with him just like how he’s been manipulating everything else the whole game is how I like to fill those plot holes. Makes him less of a flat “because i want power” villain to a “we are all going to fulfill our dream together like we planned and if you won’t do it I will” villain.

wanted to start off by saying Holy Shit!! spm was a video game me and my sister also played growing up!! we never beat it back then but recently she came home and got me hooked on it again and we played it all the way thru. we also did fun little voices for each character I got to be dimentio so that was very fun ^__^ i think Objectively its not a very hard game (which is why we were able to beat it LMAO) but what it lacks there it makes up for in STORY and super strong characters and i adore it so

first of all themes of love being the answer make me wanna bawl my eyes out and i gotta be real i did tear up at the end of the game when blumiere and timpani have bounding through time ost playing and then walk out of frame. CHEFS KISS. lovely. i like how each chapter the gang goes thru has its own unique little set of townspeople and even thru little bits of dialogue u are left wanting to defeat the chaos heart even more because you dont want any of them to die YK? HEAVENS TO BETSY! THE DIALOGUE OPTIONS FOR RIGHT BEFORE CHAPTER 8 FOR ALL THE PEOPLE IN FLIP/FLOPSIDE?? SHIT HURTED. npc reactions to all the shit going on were so good

one thing i WISH happened tho was. mario and luigi Sibling Love (i mean this platonically i want to specify Just in case there are any weirdos out there) Helps Save The World. i get the whole count bleck mansion part where everyone started sacrificing themselves to save the others which means they care for one another n whatnot which is good great and fantastic However i think it wouldve been COOL to see the whole gang esp the two opposing forces of Mario (prophesized hero color red) and luigi (prophesized Man In Green to contain the chaos heart and destroy the world) contribute to the reformation of the pure heart like some sorta balance between light n dark . BUT ITS FINE i love the game anyway because its probably the longest bowser luigi mario and peach have ever been on the same team

and completely unrelated, the entire premise of luigi being the harbinger of a great world ender is ALWAYS a joy. a fun little recurring gag if you will. like i cant believe this is not the only time he was the vessel for a great evil like what is up with that. every day i think abt that one luigi post abt how he's Doomed By The Narrative TM to be the Evil Twin Brother but he just chooses not to be. never not thinking abt that ever. hes so haunted by like literally everything got separated and brainwashed fought his brother aided in the destruction of the sammer guy world Died went to hell KOed spm satan got revived became GOD then saved the world. and he is some middle aged man in striped socks

MR L. GOD. that fucking guy. hes so lame. i like him so much. his theme goes SO hard in the silliest way imaginable. and i also like how even when he is brainwashed its kinda obvious he still wants mario around (see: brobot, the replacement brother). they fr tapped into luigis need to be useful and used that as is motivation to work for the count. yeowch. mr l to me is just luigi but Lots of parts of him just locked up and forgotten (plus a little minor bit of oh i dont know straight up brain manipulation, nastasia is a force 2 be reckoned with fr) Duno if im making sense here . anyway mr l is so so so hilarious to me because his one liners are so so dumb and i think the gag abt no one recognizing him is FUNNY (EVEN IF i think at least mario SHOULDVE recognized him but WHATEVS).

all of count blecks minions are . SUCH a fun little group. and while dimentio didnt give a fuck about them i still love his dynamic as the court jester whos a little bit of a bitch. the origins of them joining the group are very interesting because ochunks mimi and nastasia had been at their lowest when bleck recruited them and dimentio was like. let me in your emo band. ochunk's warrior code is something i think about a lot. he doesnt got a lot behind the eyes but hes got values he sticks to and i like that a lot in a character. him and mimi do spa days

bleck as a character makes me wanna chew through my walls. in a good way. guys who are slipping and dont want to get back up and bringing everything else down with them are fun and that is all. bonus! he still gets to be Somewhere quiet after the story's over

dimentio has to be my fave of the goons (not counting mr l). not surprising because hes just. so. ...... He is the Way That He Is. his little similes are so stupidly funny for no reason and i think being a Silly Guy and also a Guy With Ulterior Motives are the two funest traits a character can have. His ambiguous past is so interesting like yes bitch hide behind the mask keep cards up your sleeve dont let them know your next move!! something interesting i read somewhere was that. even after luigi the chaos heart and dimentio were separated that there were bits still mixed up between them, linking them not only prophetically but on the atomic level is a headcanon im tucking close into my heart . terrifying as it is super fucking rad !! luigi cannot escape the harbinger of doom allegations

dimentio and luigis entire dynamic is the best thing ever. because dimentio is a goddamn weirdo and luigi is. and i cannot stress this enough. JUST a fucking GUY. luigi is like "ill stop you you ne'er do well!" and dimentio responds with "im killing us both<3ciao!" why does every luigi villain wanna be no children mountain goats with SO BAD. they should keep doing it

god. the way mario is the mc and barely has a role in most of the story other than being The Hero of the Light Prognosticus is both a little annoying and also kinda sick /pos. annoying because mario is one of my faves and i want him to participate in the story more (not really a diss on the writing i just like him) but also kinda sick because . the way everyone in the game talks abt the hero from the prophecy is so. soooooooooooo. god. like everyone in favor of all worlds Not Ending preparing THOUSANDS of CENTURIES in advance just for mario to arrive. Pixls were locked in boxes and hidden away WAITING for him and its like. if he could talk back. i wanna know how he thinks abt all this. because throught the entire story You as the player kinda fuck things up for people in pursuit of the pure hearts. and mario cant rly SAY anything abt it cus its not Really his story, but MAN. what i would give for a little development on his end of the lineup during a few points like 'wilting' king croacus, figuring out squirps is now orphaned because he had to stay alive long enough to help the heros, Luvbis Entire Deal, and figuring out mr l was luigi all along. SIGH

i dont know much about the pixl war, but all of that lore is so cool to look into. ive got like surface level knowledge. even then i only rly care abt the history when im thinking abt the personalities of the pixls themselves. cus like they get their little moment in the spotlight and then they Never speak Again. dottie and cudge and fleep are some of the more memorable ones for me and i wish it was possible to hear more of them. but alas

squirps. :( in my heart. in my heart and soul. bowser takes squirps under his wing. forms an alliance with his kingdom (assuming. squirps takes over from where his mom left off). peach would of course also form an alliance with him. IDK. squirps is the Only One out of every major side character in the game who didnt really get a happy ending. while not everyone NEEDS one i think he deserves one. and in my perfect world he is being guided by two more experienced rulers (bowser isnt doing much in terms of teaching him good diplomacy but he sure as hell is getting him to hang out with kids his age like Jr).

bowser was so funny this whole game. love when evil guys get domesticated a little. thats all about him

Me, continuing to plot out the events of my Kirby AU: “Welcome back to another episode of Meta Knight Has A Really Not Cool Day!”

I think what makes Super Paper Mario stand out from many of the other plot-based Mario games is the motivation of the villains. (And no, I have not played all of them, but I'm familiar enough with the major titles to take a leap with this idea here).

You can write a laundry list of bad guys who have wanted to take over the world: Smithy and his gang want to reforge it (literally) in their image. The Shadow Queen wants to rule over a dark, new reality. Cackletta wants the Beanstar to fulfill her crazed wishes of destruction and power. Antasma wants command through the Dream World. Princess Shroob wants, and maybe even needs, to a degree, to siphon off the life force of the Toads in an interesting twist on an alien species' resource issues. In fact, one of the few antagonists we encounter who is not 100% fueled by power-lust is King Boo, who walks a tighrope between a pedestrian desire to rule reality via ghost army and a need to exact revenge, a tightrope he eventually falls off of decidedly in the direction of bloodthirsty vengeance directed specifically at Luigi. (He built, bought, or at least took over a whole-ass, multi-level hotel for this express purpose, not only luring Luigi into this trap, but roping his brother, his friend, and some random Toad acquaintances into the whole ordeal, as well - which is categorically insane and the topic of another rant for another day).

But Count Bleck doesn't want power for power's sake. He merely wants to use the Chaos Heart to end reality. There's no throne he covets, no crown he searches for - he desires only utter annihilation of everything, including himself. It's such a nihilistic goal and is so striking in comparison to the other enemies we encounter in and around the Mushroom Kingdom. Even Dimentio, whose initial plan was to seize power and reshape the world in his own corrupted image - even Dimentio chooses this final destruction over the promise of false power in the end.

How do you fight against someone who seeks death as their ultimate goal? It's such a depressing and fascinating concept in a Mario game, of all things, and is one of the reasons I personally see SPM as a kind of climax to the events of many of the preceding games, including SM: RPG and Thousand Year Door, which you can see as the "prequels," as it were, to SPM, if you look at these games as existing along a timeline that began with the creation of the Pixls and the Tribe of Ancients and ends with Bleck and Dimentio's defeat at the threshold of apocalypse.

Anyway, I'm starting to come up with some lore ideas that would possibly tie these three games together in a slight AU where the Bleck gang would show up in 7 Stars and Geno's role is extended past the restoration of the Star Road.

okay look. i know we're all super happy about spiderman goin back to sony and having a movie that actually focuses on peter and not like. everybody but peter- but i do! i do think that it could have been done so much better if it had been directed by taika or someone who actually cared about the character!

the thought of peter dealing with the loss of a father figure is a really really dark topic that can be explored and told in a way that is much more nuanced! not to mention the fact that they completely ignored the 10 years of character development of tony, who yeah! was not a good person, but realized it and grew from it and spent every waking moment after that trying to make the world a better and safer place. so THEN you just had tony give peter, a CHILD, this actual war crime of a weapon and completely destroy tonys development and character arc. but the movie isn't about tony! its about peter.

so THEN you have nick fury have this fucking MINOR reveal his secret identity to complete fucking strangers, the one thing you never goddamn do? nick fury king of secrets is just gonna let this child endanger himself and his family by reveal himself? and THEN (i felt so fucking vindicated in the after credits) he stars tearing this CHILD apart for wanting to maybe take a beat after watching his father figure die in front of him, the trauma of coming back after five years (which was barely even mentioned, like HOW is the movie not focused on that) and nick fury says you're the only one who can save the world from this avengers level threat that would be much better to have a team attack considering spiderman's powers do NOTHING to! i get that this is in the comics, but its just stupid!

AND THEN! the main fucking villain is, AGAIN, purely focused on hating TONY STARK!!! we couldve had a movie about fuckin SANDMAN but NOOOOO we had to have this band of villains who are angry at tony stark for essentially, nothing! beck is an actual fucking psychopath who is hellbent on having the world see him as a hero (what was the plan after that?) and he just happens to know about edith that coincides with his plan perfectly???? also. when, praytell, did tony design this shit for peter?

also, quick tangent, but that one guy that basically works with the robots, the one that obediah stane yelled at? why the fuck was he mad at tony??? literally the only person he should have been mad at was stane? what a major fucking plothole lmao

so back to my point. look, i liked the movie as a movie. there were moments that made my heart clench (i.e peter on the jet and the cinematic parallels! i straight up bawled!) i loved the scenes with MJ and ned!!! the special effects were insanely good! but honestly? when the most memorable scene of your movie is the post credits, you didn't make a good fucking movie.

what this movie should have done, if anything, was have peter keep his identity a secret. either you go dark and have peter exhibit the signs of ptsd and depression and anxiety of going through all that shit, have him fight someone who will make sense with whats happened in the universe, have them fucking stay in nyc, because he feels obligated to help, because it makes sense that this is where he fights as it wont immediately give away his identity like it did in europe. have him fight norman osborne (the green goblin), a man who has so much money and spends it on nefarious purposes. have there be parallels between norman and tony- the difference between two men- one who made his money off war, and one who made his money off of science, and how their paths ultimately merged and then diverged in the opposite. tony focusing then on science and norman starting to become greedy, selling chemical weapons and of course trying to recreate a superhero, who hoards his wealth and experiments on innocent people. norman, who in his greed and obsession and mania, experiments on himself and becomes the green goblin. peter who is desperately trying to get norman back to his normal self, who tells him he has good in him and he can change. but norman is too far gone, and peter has this dilemna of how he can defeat him without becoming a monster too.

CASTIEL AND HIS SACRED OATH - 12x10, 12x12, 12x23

This scene here. This split second glance is so so important. I don’t know why people aren’t talking about it (I couldn’t even find any gifs of it and had to take pictures coz I’m computerly incompitent). But I wanted to give my own analytical response to this millisecond glance, because I think it demonstrates properly why Cas has never done anything about his feelings for Dean. 

First, some context from my behalf: I always assumed Cas had never admitted his love for Dean for one of two reasons, 1) he was an angel, therefore not quite understanding his feelings himself - perhaps confusing them with familial love, Dean style. Or 2) he was afraid his love may not be reciprocated. But after watching 12x10, 12x12 and 12x23, I can thoroughly rule out reason 1. 

Now, I’ll be talking a lot about 12x10 as that ENTIRE EPISODE and THIS LOOK are so closely correlated.
