threw a mermaid!cas art piece into the pot that is the @reversefantasyspnbang and like magic a mermaid!cas fic appeared :00

here's the banner I made for this, (yes another) desk with stuff on it. idk why I draw so many desks as banners either. but yeah this one is pirate flavored and has a spyglass and compass on it as well as a phoenix feather and fancy pendant thing that was inspired by the one from Disney's 'Moana' with a spn-themed pentagram thrown on there, though the pendant kinda looks like a Tamagotchi and I can't get that image out of my brain. the fish in the drawer was supposed to be a placeholder for something else in the original sketch but it was silly so it stayed 🎉

the title is on a pirate map that's supposed to tell its own story or whatever. the dashed line explores all around the area with various scribbled-out x's marking various spots as well as a whirlpool type deathtrap around what would be the 'a' in 'dead'. the only un-scribbled 'x' is on a tiny island called Mermaid Rock (the thing around the giant tail-shaped 't' in 'tails'), but since the pirates go out of their way to avoid that area (as seen in the dashed line where they get sucked into the whirlpool instead) due to superstitions about mermaids being bad luck, they don't know whether there's actually anything there or not and therefore can't eliminate it

this was the original art piece I submitted, featuring Dean holding up Cas, who's tangled up in a net. looking at it now I can see that angle of the boat is...weird (especially that ladder staircase thing) but ehh. I spent a ton of time planning Dean's outfit to be a somewhat historically accurate pirate but didn't realize Cas would be covering the neat jacket and sword holster thing I gave him and everything uh

the goal with this was to have Dean not the pirate captain for once in a pirate Dean/mermaid Cas fic (which I like reading but doubt I can write, hence why I dumped it on somebody else via reverse bang I mean what). I wanted Cas to look like he came from deep within the ocean, so his eyes are slitted to take in more light (think of cats) and his skin is more of a grey to better blend in. ofc Cas can't resist checking out the human world and ended up getting caught in a net but luckily Dean was there to pull him out...only to get in trouble for it. this was the original art idea and I really like the way the author adapted it and made Dean more of a reluctant pirate and Cas even more in love with 'humanity'

I do not like drawing bunk beds. or furniture. but it at least looks like a bed so that's okay. but yeah Dean's singing to Cas here and is kinda embarrassed about it, hence why he's looking away, but Cas can't actually tell what he's saying either way so Dean's just being Paranoid. the marks on Cas are scars from the net, a reference to what actually happens to irl sea creatures who get tangled in nets, if they live at all. those lines are supposed to be ribs to indicate that Cas is pretty thin due to a lack of food (probably due to humans overfishing) but they kinda look like he had top surgery. which...ignore that that's unintentional or I would've made them that same pinkish color as his other scars. also ignore the nipple freckle I had to include it okay

water is really weird sorry it looks so weird. but here's Dean and Cas preparing for some boat kisses because they're Them. I really like how the boat and especially the words on the boat (Riverside Blue, a reference to Led Zeppelin's 'Traveling Riverside Blues,' one of Dean's favorite songs added as per the author's suggestion) came out. the boat was supposed to be blue with the characteristic white underside all boats seem to have but then it was just...too blue and what goes better with blue than green 🤡

there was an idea thing going around where the crew on the pirate ship weren't allowed to wear colors, hence why both of Dean's outfits in the other two pics are so drab (the dull backgrounds don't help). so in this final piece where they're off the ship, I wanted to make it as colorful as possible with that orange sky and brightly colored boat and then Dean's colorful outfit with his shirt being somewhere between blue and green. yay contrast

man I didn't mean to ramble so much sorry about that. just put a lot of thought into these even though it might not look like it

2. What's your total AO3 word count? 645,479

3. What fandoms do you write for? Just Supernatural. I have the brainworms and they are in the shape of Thee One and Only Castiel.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

stay, In Just Saying It, Non Solum, Still Waters Run Deep, Sleeping Together

5. Do you respond to comments? Most of them. I do get kind of overwhelmed (with love and joy) if someone comments on all the chapters as they read, so I'll often reply to their final comment. And if the comments are rude, I ignore them (doesn't happen often, but it has).

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Thee fic that started it all: Empty Spaces. A bold choice for my first posting, lol. At least I wrote a sequel? :-P

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Probably Something Blue. I wrapped that up with a bow. As a commenter wrote, "Holy happy ending, Batman!!!!!"

8. Do you get hate on fics? Mmmmm, not sure I'd call it hate but I did have a commenter who wasn't happy with the direction The Angel went in. Thankfully, they figured out the fic wasn't to their tastes and decided to leave halfway through.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yeah. It's fun to write but, whew, very difficult to edit, lol. As for what kind... somewhat-idealized- romantic-everyone-has-a-good-time-and-feels-their-feelings kind of smut, I think. Most of the time... Murder the World was a lot more angsty.

10. Do you write crossovers? Nah. I don't really have the fic bug for other fandoms.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I'm aware of.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yup! A couple in Russian and one in Chinese.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? No. I don't know if I'd be able to. I don't think I'd be a very good partner :-P. I don't even like a beta to look at my stuff 'till the draft is done and I read it though a couple times.

14. What’s your all time favorite ship? It's the DeanCas of it all.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? The Path of the Righteous Man (my reverse verse fic) is like, my white whale. I keep going back to it and never adding a single word. The block is strong on that one.

16. What are your writing strengths? Introspection and action. Both are sooooo fun.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? Dialogue. UGH. Dialogue. How do people talk? Hell if I know.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? Sure. My monolingual ass won't, though.

19. First fandom you wrote for? Posted? SPN. Written on loose leaf paper as a tiny child, which has been lost to the ages (thank goodness)? Final Fantasy VII.

If I have any specific art goals for 2023, it’s to hopefully have the chance to work on some more different characters within the SPN ‘verse. I also want to find the time to do some more pieces in my trueform series and character portraits - probably for MomentoCon and wherever else I might see some of the actors I haven’t had the chance to see at a convention yet.  I’ve been working on updating my Teepublic shop with more of my art, so you can get prints, bags, cases, mugs, and of course t-shirts with a lot of these pieces there. I may be opening a redbubble shop soon as well for some of the merch they offer that Teepublic doesn’t (as much as I love Teepublic’s quality and pricing.)

Crying Castiel | SPN Fantasy Bang

And here I am for my second entry for SPN Fantasy Bang. I've made an embarrassing dolphin noise when @dwinchester1979 claimed my second art piece and I'm glad no one heard it XD. I'm soooo happy I was finally able to work with them because Max paints with words!

I tried to be sneaky with my art fir claims, trying out something new so people who know me for ages don't immediately recognise me but I think I failed haha. So here is my art:

1,233,238 words 🙈 (I’ve been posting stuff regularly on AO3 for 4.5 years)

3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?

Technically, four fandoms if you count the one odd Megstiel SPN fic that I wrote in reaction to S08E17. But on AO3, my main fandoms are Shadowhunters with 85 fics, The Untamed (陈情令)/MDZS with 24 fics, and Word of Honour (山河令) with 3 fics.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

1) lovers be lost (but love shall not) | 2,678 kudos | rated T | The Untamed (陈情令)/MDZS Horror casefic set in 1910s Jiangsu, Wei Ying agrees to a ghost marriage with the recently-deceased Lan Zhan. Angst with a happy ending. I actually drew a whole blueprint of the Lan family’s siheyuan estate for my own notes lol.

2) All Realms of Where and When Beyond | 2,286 kudos | rated E | Shadowhunters Fantasy AU. Magnus, the youngest prince of Edom, is forced into a political marriage with Alec, the former crown prince of Idris. This is my longest fic at 106,491 words and I also drew art and maps for it.

3) No Refunds, Satisfaction Guaranteed | 2,272 kudos | rated E | The Untamed (陈情令)/MDZS Wei Ying is mistaken for the sexbot that he was supposed to deliver to Lan Zhan. The premise is inspired by the Korean manhwa 너와 30일.

4) Monsters | 1,829 kudos | rated E | Shadowhunters SPN-verse AU, the Lightwoods are monster hunters and Magnus is a Prince of Hell.

5) burning bright | 1,641 kudos | rated E | The Untamed (陈情令)/MDZS When the Yiling River rages out of control, Lan Zhan is offered to the dragon in the river as a virgin sacrifice. (I just really wanted to write a proper Chinese dragon where we treat our dragons as more like gods than evil monsters.) A fill for a kinkmeme prompt.

5. Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

Yup, I do! I set a rule for myself that I could only post something new after I’d answered all the comments in my inbox (so if I start replying to comments, it usually means I’m ready to post my next chapter haha). But I do like making friends with my readers and I love it when I spot a familiar username!

6. What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

I’ve written a few fics that have made people cry 🙈 But I usually like happy endings so I think the angstiest endings go to The Lighthouse on Lightwood Island (Shadowhunters), which is a horror/eldritch tentacle monster ficlet that started out as crackfic and just took a sharp left turn into angst, and The Kingdom by the Sounding Sea (Shadowhunters) which is a everybody-dies sort of deal.

7. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've ever written?

I don’t write crossovers but I have written one SPN-verse AU and one Star Trek-verse AU for Shadowhunters.

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Not really. I did get one of those crazy Jiang Cheng haters on one fic, but it was just one nonsensical comment and I simply deleted it.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yeah, at least half of my fic is rated E. Porn with feelings is my jam, and I feel like I should tag most of it “what is all this plot getting in the way of my porn?!” because I’m apparently incapable of writing porn without plot LOL.

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yes, someone on Wattpad stole a bunch of fic from a few authors but we reported the account.

11. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No. I did do a lovely collaboration series with rebel_ren on AO3 called Sensorium where we prompted each other with one of the senses and gifted the fics to each other, and the MDZS Reverse Bang with @lordvoldemortsnipple ❤️

12. What's your all time favourite ship?

I don’t think I have one. I’m currently in Wenzhou (Word of Honour) mode but I’m still writing MDZS fic and I occasionally read fics from my previous fandoms like Shadowhunters, Supernatural, Sherlock, etc.

13. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Ranma Nibunnoichi 😆 There wasn’t even FFN at that time, I posted fic on my geocities site and there were all these fandom webrings...

14. What's your favourite fic you've written?

Oh no this is a hard one. I am proud of most of my fic – I like to challenge myself with new tropes or techniques, and I enjoy writing and researching for them. If I had to choose, I’d pick three. All Realms of Where and When Beyond because it was my life for six months and I will always love the world and lore that I built for it. Lost & Found // 有缘千里来相会 (The Untamed/MDZS) because it was an exploration of the complicated concepts of belonging and family in the framework of my culture and my identity as Chinese diaspora. And our love is a harsh chord (Shadowhunters) because it was the most structurally complex thing I’ve written because of the non-linear narrative and the fandom was so lovely and supportive with a bunch of people livetweeting their reactions when they were reading the fic.
