Astrology (part1) Astrology is a true science, though only an intuitive and spiritually developed person can rightly interpret a horoscope. Self-Realization Fellowship teaches that all things in the heavens and on the earth are interrelated; the whole cosmos is one unified structure. But SRF does not teach astrology. Our guru Paramahansa Yogananda pointed out that the highest science is meditation on God — the One who created the stars and planets and who gave them their characteristic influences. Each of the twelve astrological (zodiacal) signs has a good side and a bad side. The qualities of each sign can be used or misused. Each sign has distinctive virtues and faults. However, it is not an astrological sign that determines one’s character, it is one’s stage of spiritual advancement. A good man will make the best of whatever sign he happens to be born under. A man who is low in spiritual evolution will make the worst of even an auspicious zodiacal endowment. Every man has been or will be born many times under each of the astrological signs, so one should feel impersonal about the matter. As one becomes more universal in outlook the less his particular zodiacal sun-sign affects, restricts, and defines him. God made the heavens and the earth and God made the soul of man. The soul is not subject to any limitation or condition of the phenomenal worlds. The wise man strives for knowledge not primarily of creation but of the Creator. Many students of astrology tend to become fanatical about it and to miss the point of the spiritual path — the search for God alone. If we strive to do His will we shall be in tune with the Infinite. That goal is far better and more spiritually rewarding than to seek to analyze ourselves and others astrologically. hi, i hope you are well! i was looking thru royals' fashion, and was thinking, on a practical note, where do they keep all their clothes, theres just so much! HMQEII for example has probably worn thousands of dresses, cant possibly keep them all, what happens to them? not just her tho, most of them just go thru so many outfits i wonder if they donate them after or smth. (except uber practical princess anne, she seems to be keeping ALL her stuff and wears again in 30 years or so lol). pt2 ->
pt.2. so where do the royal ladies keep their stuff? they are obv not lacking for space so? a set of rooms (but must be so many!) in their apartments? or storage facility? small country castle turned wardrobe? what about air conditioning for preservation. like, where was bea's dress wore stored for 60yrs and what else is 'there'? also, do maxima and mathilde talk about matching soo much lol? i dont expect you to have all the answers, just wondering if you thought about it and have theories. thx
Honestly it’s an interesting question which I don’t have a good  answer for. Angela Kelly wrote a book on dressing the Queen and would be the best source on this but I don’t own it so if anyone can share, that would help!
In a documentary on the SRF they showed you the wedding dresses which are kept in their vault with their tiaras and such. They’re boxed up and have tissue paper separating the folds in the gowns to make sure they don’t get damaged (I don’t really know how that helps lol). The room is temperature controlled and I think has lighting controls as well. I imagine it’s a similar situation for other royal families where they probably keep things in their vaults either in palaces they live in or ones they have but don’t stay in themselves. I found an article that said “all of the Queen's clothes and accessories are kept and archived at Buckingham Palace. They are stored in boxes and cotton bags inside mahogany wardrobes with airtight doors.” But no source for that so pinch of salt. They have people whose jobs are to maintain their artefacts and historical fashion is probably included in that. I’d imagine the iconic pieces and older pieces are possibly even put in the Royal Collection for the state. But I’d also imagine that for everyday wear they probably have large wardrobes at home. Paul Burrell - who is not the most reliable source but did have close access to the family - said the Queen’s day time outfits that are in current circulation are kept on a specific floor of BP. Another source said those rooms are temperature controlled. Brian Hoey said that when she’s done with an outfit she gives it to her dressers to be sold or worn, we don’t know if that’s true and part of me doubts it. We do know that some outfits are modified so what we might think is a new piece is not.
In terms of the matching I would love to have some insight on that! I always wonder if the Queen’s Private Sec sends a message to KP or whoever before an event and says “the Queen is wearing this so wear something complementary/don’t wear the exact same shade/whatever she wants.” Or if it’s more casual, a WhatsApp group for fashion lol. In some cases - like Maxima and Mathilde - I could honestly imagine it’s entirely coincidental because they shop at so many of the same brands (burn all the Natan in their wardrobe please) and both wear a lot of Benelux designers

Image file extension types and when to use them - technical
1 - JPEG (or JPG) - Joint Photographic Experts Group
JPEG, is a “lossy” format meaning that the image is compressed to make a smaller file. The compression does create a loss in quality but this loss is generally not noticeable. JPEG files are very common on the Internet and JPEG is a popular format for digital cameras - making it ideal for web use and non-professional prints.
Compression: Lossy - some file information is compressed or lost
Best For: Web Images, Non-Professional Printing, E-Mail, Powerpoint
Special Attributes: Can choose amount of compression when saving in image editing programs like Adobe Photoshop or GIMP.
2 - PNG - Portable Network Graphics
PNG files are a lossless image format originally designed to improve upon and replace the gif format. PNG files are able to handle up to 16 million colors, unlike the 256 colours supported by GIF.
Compression:  Lossless - compression without loss of quality
Best For: Web Images
Special Attributes: Save Transparency
3 - GIF - Graphics Interchange Format
GIF files are widely used for web graphics, because they are limited to only 256 colours, can allow for transparency, and can be animated. GIF files are typically small is size and are very portable.
Compression: Lossless - compression without loss of quality Best For: Web Images Special Attributes: Can be Animated, Can Save Transparency
4 - TIFF - Tagged Image File
TIFF files are lossless images files meaning that they do not need to compress or lose any image quality or information (although there are options for compression), allowing for very high-quality images but also larger file sizes.
Compression: Lossless - no compression. Very high-quality images.
Best For: High quality prints, professional publications, archival copies
Special Attributes: Can save transparencies
5 - PSD - Photoshop Document
A PSD is the default format that Photoshop uses when saving data. This file format allows the user to work with images’ individual layers.
Within Photoshop, you have the option to flatten the image into a Jpg, Gif or TIFF, et al. Once this happens, it is no longer possible to convert it back to a PSD. The best way to work with these files is to create a PSD file, and subsequently flatten file formats when needed.
6 - PDF - Portable Document Format
PDF stands for "portable document format". Essentially, the format is used when you need to save files that cannot be modified but still need to be easily shared and printed. Today almost everyone has a version of Adobe Reader or other program on their computer that can read a PDF file.
7 - EPS - Encapsulated Postscript
EPS is a file in vector format that has been designed to produce high-resolution graphics for print. EPS files can be opened in many illustration applications such as Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW.
Compression: None - uses vector information
Best For: Vector artwork, illustrations
Special Attributes: Saves vector information
8 - AI - Adobe Illustrator Document
Adobe Illustrator is the industry standard for creating artwork from scratch. The image format most preferred by designers and the most reliable type of file format for using images in all types of projects from web to print. Illustrator produces vector artwork, the easiest type of file to manipulate. It can also create all of the aforementioned file types.
9 - INDD - Adobe Indesign Document
NDDs are files that are created and saved in Adobe Indesign. Indesign is commonly used to create larger publications, such as newspapers, magazines and eBooks.
Files from both Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator can be combined in Indesign to produce content rich designs that feature advanced typography, embedded graphics, page content, formatting information and other sophisticated layout-related options.
10 - RAW - Raw Image Formats
RAW images are images that are unprocessed that have been created by a camera or scanner. Many digital SLR cameras can shoot in RAW, whether it be a .raw, .cr2, or .nef. These RAW images are the equivalent of a digital negative, meaning that they hold a lot of image information, but still need to be processed in an editor such as Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom.
Compression: None Best For: Photography Special Attributes: Saves metadata, unprocessed, lots of information
There are a lot of raw image file format, below some examples:
IIQ (Phase One), 3FR (Hasselblad), DCR, K25, KDC (Kodak), CRW CR2 CR3 (Canon), MEF (Mamiya), MOS (Leaf), NEF (Nikon), ORF (Olympus), PEF (Pentax), RW2 (Panasonic), ARW, SRF, SR2 (Sony).

Mostly Mezzo Mondays: DiDonato, Lezhneva, Alder, Hallenberg, et al.
Mostly Mezzo Mondays: a recurring (though not weekly) feature where, on Monday nights, I blog a list of the upcoming broadcasts that have caught my eye on World Concert Hall. My interests: baroque vocal music, art song recitals, and a list of favorite singers.
Joyce DiDonato joins the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique for an all-Berlioz program at the BBC Proms. Wednesday, September 5 on BBC Radio 3.*
Julia Lezhneva sings baroque arias by Handel, Vivaldi, Porpora, and Graun, interspersed with instrumental pieces by Torelli, in a concert with the Kammerorchester Basel. Thursday, September 6 on SRF 2 Kultur.
This Theodora from the Proms looks promising: it’s got Louise Alder in the title role with Ann Hallenberg as her friend Irene, plus Iestyn Davies (Didymus), Benjamin Hulett (Septimius), and Tareq Nazmi (Valens). With Arcangelo and the Arcangelo chorus, conducted by Jonathan Cohen. Friday, September 7 on BBC Radio 3.*
* BBC Radio 3 generally makes concert broadcasts available for listening on demand for about a month afterward. I’m not sure about SRF 2 Kultur—on a brief browse of the site, I couldn’t find any archived concerts.
