Secretarybird (Sagittarius serpentarius)
The Secretarybird, also spelled Secretary Bird, is known for its remarkable appearance, and strange feeding habits: it stomps on its prey repeatedly to kill them, a method most commonly applied to lizards and snakes. The Maasai people call this bird 'ol-enbai nabo', meaning 'one arrow', in reference to its crest feathers.

Creature Awaits #204
Each week I plan to feature an amazing creature, admiring God's fantastic artistry.  Hopefully it’ll brighten someone’s day to see something new and interesting if they haven’t seen it before. : )

The Secretary Bird
Scientific Name: Sagittarius serpentarius
Region: Savannahs and Grasslands across much of central and southern Africa
Size: Up to roughly 4'3" (~1.3m) tall with a 6'9" (~2.1m) wingspan!
Interesting Notes: There are several theories behind this beautiful bird's name, the most popular being that they are named for way their appearance resembles the grey coat, mid-length black pants and quill tucked behind the ear commonly worn by 19th century male secretaries.

The Secretarybird (Sagittarius serpentarius).  It is unique in the bird world in that it stomps its prey to death with its long legs (<-- fascinating POV video of being stomped)—it spends most of its day on the ground, stalking for prey, and only flies sparingly.  It is native to African grasslands.

oh shit a dergon based on the secretary bird for Uni, one of the gender birds ever
It’s name is already so metal ( Sagittarius Serpentarius ) and made me think of dragons, so here we are. Their name means “Archer of Snakes,” and much like the bird they are based off of, they are largely terrestrial, their wings smaller than other dragon breeds and used less for flying than leverage for climbing and running. Though they appear more lithe than their stronger western dragon counterparts, Sagittariidae are a lot stronger than they look, being able to easily smash their prey and smaller dragon species with their armored paws.

Really, @geezerflakes, have you ever thought to make cartoon series on mtcpt? 🗿 I guess the animation industry is hell, but still, the idea is overt, the humour is dire, the characters are evidently taken from the fokin streets around and, all in all, there is so much crime happening there
I mean, it deserves a full film🤷🤧
...A faraway storm about to come. Distant rumbles of thunder. Four people in black, standing over a fresh grave: a mysterious man with a censored face, an model employee in an old-fashioned suit, a huge sagittarius serpentarius and a little girl.
— Today we are here to say goodbye to our colleague, Jock.
— <Sobbing> He was so middle-aged...
