Naturally ruminating more on the implication of the piece I wrote today - on Mino and Regill's 'ending'.
After his tragic death in battle, she fully ascends to the Inevitable Paradox (a lawful protean lord) after Jesyll is fully grown and leaves to take on the world. Given Mino's status as lawful protean lord, I doubt she'd be welcomed in Axis among other Inevitables/Axiomites, and she wouldn't fit in the Maelstrom either. Given Ssila'meshnik's own "wild card" role in the Boneyard and relationship to Pharasma, Minovae to me is prime Psychopomp Usher material.
Her unique characteristics, devotion and reverence of mortality and mortals, and of course the familial relation leads to Pharasma asking her to accept a Court of her own, to which she tentatively accepts as she realizes she has no real place for her (and Regill!) to go. It ends up being exactly where she needs to be, a perfect afterlife where she gets to work, fight for what she's passionate for, and also spend it with her favorite person (heh). Her court specifically deals with souls wronged in the name of the divine: anyone killed by an outsider that has left them particularly distraught in death; those who lived miserable lives shaped by the machinations or actions of a greater power that would've been completely different otherwise; those that died cursing their own god in death feeling wronged or abandoned by them; etc.
She doesn't see a lot of cases, but it fulfills a niche that neither Mrtyu, Phlegyas, or Saloc cover (of which she works closely with and finds great kinship with in their shared concerns over souls).
Thinking of her 'divine' form, she looks mostly the same save for some key differences:
Her protean crown is always active
Her tail has an illusion of infiniteness - it always seems to be growing and shrinking, twisting unto itself for eternity yet also perfectly contained about her space. She has no throne either for when she's arbitrating cases; it grows long enough and coils to be a suitable enough throne for her.
The crackling, fracturing pink constellations are near constant around her eyes, and spark furiously around her when her emotions are flaring. They also constantly flit about subtlety in the facets of her scales.
Her feathers have a slight chromatic aberration about them at the edges.
Any Hellknight iconography on her armor is replaced instead by her own symbol - a stylized version of her crown over a shield
Regill's own 'herald' form is that of a spectral looking owl with glowing, wispy, piercing yellow eyes; the horned kind of owl that always looks like it's glaring. His feathers are pale, especially at the tips, and he has strangely white talons instead of black. Mino can peer through his vision by manifesting the central prong of her crown above his head - the one that contains the single protean-like eye. He usually takes this form when out on 'herald' business and is known simply as The Old Owl, but back at home in her Court he assumes his mortal form without issue (and so can she).
Just imagining stylized divinity artwork of them now - The Inevitable Paradox with her infinitely shifting tail behind her, crown flaring and the eye in the center seeing through to the truth, intimidating ghostly owl perched on her arm...

So ppl have actually followed this blog which I did not expect dhfhfhfhfh so imma write up a small bio for my lad
Name: Nym Delakov (he/him)
System: Pathfinder 2E
Class/Archetype: War Cleric/Champion
Deity: Nocticula, the Redeemer Queen (formerly, Saloc, the Minder of Immortals)
Ancestry: Fetchling - a humanoid people that emigrated to the material plane from the Shadow Plane a very long time ago. He learned to speak Aklo, a language spoken by natives of the Shadow Plane, before he learned Common. This has resulted in a strong accent and mild speech impediment.
Description: Nym is just under 2 meters tall and, as described by his coworkers, built like a brick shithouse. He prefers to stick to the back and not speak, often coming off as a silent hulking shadow with glinting eyes lurking behind the party. Despite being a vicious melee fighter, he has a gentle nature. He is fiercely loyal and trusting to a fault.
Backstory: Nym is currently the oldest of eight children. As a teenager, he became a mercenary to help support his family. He ended up getting mixed up with a thieves’ guild, and worked as hired muscle for them for some time. At some point his conscience caught up to him, and he joined the church of Saloc, a figure of redemption, in an effort to change his life for the better. More recently the goddess Nocticula reached out to him, and he ended up converting to follow her.
Creatures killed by the party typically end up being cooked and eaten by Nym, or used as craft materials. He Does Not Waste. (not magical crafting, mind - more fiber arts, carving, mending, other mundane practical skills)
The events of our campaign have taken him and his cohorts on several excursions to the First World (Pathfinder’s Feywilds basically). Taking in the inherent magic of the First World is causing gradual physical changes in him. Currently the most prominent changes are working gills and opal scales on his nape. His physiology continues to be open to change basically as long as he keeps swimming in the waters of the First World and eating every tasty fey plant and critter he finds.
He has also encountered several fish that worship him? Or at least they’ve been calling him God. And telling other fish that he’s God. He has stopped correcting them.
This is a veeeery incomplete intro to the lad but I hope it helps put some of the vibes into context c: I’d be glad to tell more stories about him if y’all want - there is a TON written about him outside the campaign, and the campaign itself has been running since January, so the lad’s got a lot to talk about ^^

Btw when I talk about my Pathfinder cleric or I tag something “Nymposting”, I’m talkin about this lad:
Tumblr media
This is Nym Delakov. He’s a fetchling cleric of Saloc, a psychopomp demideity associated with death, change, and redemption. His chosen domain is Change.
In the Pathfinder universe, mortal souls are judged and sent to their afterlife by Pharasma, Lady of Graves. In Pharasma’s court, Saloc acts as defense counsel. They have a firm belief that the intentions of a person matter as much as their actions when judging their soul, and that given the willingness to change, no soul is irredeemable.
Nym grew up in a slum of a large city. As a teenager, he ended up getting involved in organized crime, becoming a mercenary for a thieves’ guild to help support his family. After a particular incident, he felt the need to leave this life and make up for the harm he’d done.
Since then, he became an assistant professor at a school that was linked to the Pathfinder Society, and then ended up joining the Pathfinders himself after a few years. His time with the Society has been tumultuous, involving lots of fey dealings, mysterious fiendish influences, and vampire drama, among other ongoing issues. But it’s all been a great learning opportunity lol~
The creature on his shoulder is a nosoi - a tiny four-winged messenger of the dead. He often communes with them, and also has collected several fish and plants from the First World (the fey realms). He is a weird little critter and also loves his weird little critters 🖤

G/t July : Thief
Mark is not a fan of dirty lil feral tromping around in his food. Its unhygienic.
---
I love the idea of a human who can’t stand borrowing. Not because they care about stolen crumbs, or the invasion of their privacy, but just because the idea of someone handling their food is gross.
Do you let your human friends grab food off your plate with their bare hands? Would you eat food that they stepped on?
No. Of course not. Because its UNHYGENIC.
Also bonus points if anyone spies the lil reference.

Spiritual Spotlight: Saloc, the Minder of Immortals
Tumblr media
True Neutral Psychopomp Usher of Agency, Bronze, and Education
Domains: Knowledge, Liberation, Repose, Strength Subdomains*: Education, Freedom, Psychopomp, Self-Realization
Concordance of Rivals, pg. 16
Obedience: Spend at least 1 hour observing a crowded public place and help the first person you see fail or err. This may be mundane, such as assisting a shopkeep in her accounting, or dire, as in helping a failed pickpocket escape the town guard. Benefit: Gain 5 temporary ranks in a skill you do not currently have any ranks in. These bonus skill ranks vanish after 24 hours.
(*IMPORTANT NOTE: The Subdomains are my best guess; Subdomains are not listed in Concordance of Rivals.)
A rare Obedience that forces you to take part in civilization, making it incredibly awkward if you’re stuck somewhere outside of civilization for a while. Saloc isn’t a god for wanderers, unfortunately! Fitting, considering they’re more or less a cosmic defense attorney and encourage their following to be the same; awful hard to form a case if you have no evidence, and how are you supposed to gather evidence if you’re traipsing around in the wilds for days on end?
Saloc is therefor very campaign-dependent, almost to the point of being given the dreaded NPC-Only designation in a frightening percentage of Adventure Paths. Even a single day outside of a population center can potentially deny you your benefits and Boons (to say nothing of the abilities granted by the Proctor), unless you plead to your deity (and DM) for some leniency while traveling between settlements or through unsettled territory. And this isn’t even touching the second half of the Obedience, which can make you anything from a beloved public figure known for helping anyone you see to a criminal accomplice!
At the very least, however, it will make you look like a well-meaning criminal. Saloc believes a mortal’s decisions must be taken into account when assigning their ultimate fate, often outright ignoring the results of said decisions, and therefor so must you ignore context in favor of will. Yes, the person you’re helping has just stolen something or killed someone, but why? That is what you must find out in the window of the hour you’re required to serve Saloc’s view and defend them, and a DM can thus use this Obedience as the setpiece for countless plot hooks if they really play into it. When you’re divinely required to provide help to the first person you say, no matter what, you--and thus the party, by extension--can be sent on dozens of different missions!
The benefit, however, is quite worth it. Saloc’s gift grants you what is effectively a +5 in any one skill you don’t already have ranks in, which is disappointing in that it cannot bolster an already-existing skill and thus boost something you’ve put a lot of work into... but it makes you a decent Jack Of Some Trades if you put it into Knowledge, or Craft, or Profession, or something like Handle Animal or even lesser used skills like Ride or Appraise. A +5 to any one skill gives you a decent chance at meeting middling DCs, so if the primary skill monkey or specialist in a particular field cannot, for whatever reason, do their job, you can probably take a decent shot at it. More importantly, though, the language of “putting temporary ranks” in also means you can gain access to trained-only skills like Use Magic Device and Disable Device... and, significantly more importantly, the illusory ranks mean that if you slap it into a class skill, that’s an immediate +3 on top of the +5, for a nice round total of +8!
... also, technically, with the rules as they’re written, if you have no ranks in Linguistics, this benefit gets you five new temporary languages immediately. If nothing else, it makes you a polyglot of the local dialects!
Boons are gained slowly, gained at levels 12, 16, and 20. Servants of the Monitors, though, can enter the Proctor Prestige Class as early as level 8. If entered as early as possible, you can earn your Boons at levels 10, 14, and 16. You MUST take the Monitor Obedience feat, NOT Deific Obedience. Monitors grant only a single set of Boons.
Boon 1: Disciplined Educator. Gain Forbid Action 3/day, Bestow Insight 2/day, or Remove Curse 1/day.
Some days, you’re going to need Remove Curse. Thankfully and also unfortunately, most curses work slowly enough that you won’t need it every single day (hopefully) AND the spell is on practically every spell list there is, typically negating your need for a free version and giving you the opportunity to make use of this Boon’s other spells: Forbid Action and Bestow Insight.
Forbid Action is a one-round shutdown of you enemy’s most dangerous ability, more or less, and is incredibly powerful if used right. There is a wide variety of uses for a spell that can shut off a target’s ability to communicate, move, attack, draw weapons, or cast spells (among many other possible applications), even for a single round... But as a level 1 spell (making the save 11 + Charisma), and a mind-affecting, compulsion, AND language-dependent effect, it’s unlikely to stick to a target you’d really need to hit with it. If it DOES, though? It’s a phenomenal spell. There is also the out-of-combat uses, as well, shutting off someone’s ability to shout for help or move for 6 seconds comes in very handy more often than you’d think (even if you already think it’s very often).
Bestow Insight, though, is probably what you’re going to be packing for lunch each day. It’s a very boring spell, but that makes it very practical, and it combines forces with your Obedience benefit to make it even better. It simply grants a target a minute/level buff of +2 (which increases as you level up; it will be +4 at the point you first get it) to one skill that you have ranks in, and you can end the spell early to roll twice for one skill and take the higher result (which does benefit from the +4, mind). Extra skill-monkeying is pretty much always welcomed in any situation, but the limiter in that it’s something you have to have ranks in is fairly harsh, especially if you’re a Proctor with your pathetic 2 skill points a level... or, it would be, if Saloc didn’t grant you 5 ranks in a different skill each day. Even if it’s a skill you’d never personally use, you can still slap ranks in it just to take Bestow Insight and cast it on someone who will use it frequently.
Boon 2: Elder's Insight. While preparing your spells, you can treat yourself as one age category older than your true age for the next 24 hours, temporarily gaining all the ability score bonuses and penalties associated with your emulated age.
wow, fantastic.
a -1 to all your physical ability scores for a +1 to all mental ability scores huh
saloc, you shouldn’t have
no. really. im serious. you should not have, this should have been better.
If you’re already middle age, mind, those benefits suddenly become a -3 to all your physical scores for a +2 to all your mental ones. And if you’re old? Enjoy a nice, juicy -6 to your physical scores for a +3 to your mental ones. If you’re already venerable? You get nothing. You’re already an elder, so this Boon is now blank for you.
Since the Proctor is a caster class, the bonus mental ability scores is welcome because you want those to be as high as possible at all times... but it’s up to you on if the loss of your physical scores is worth the extra +1 or +2 when items that give roughly the same bonuses can be relatively easily obtained and slapped on without your body falling to pieces. I’m incredibly glad this ability didn’t actually age you, lest a single Sands of Time reduce you to sand.
I have a feeling this Boon will be well received by people who already really want to be old or venerable for those ability boosts, but in my own opinion, the loss of physical scores (and thus your AC and 2/3rds of your saving throws) is too steep a price. At least Saloc says “may” be treated as older, so it’s not being forced on you if you don’t want it.
Boon 3: Cosmic Appeal. You can cast Raise Dead 1/day. You cannot use this ability on the same creature more than once.
I desperately wish this was Resurrection to put it on the power level of other third Boons, but Raise Dead is still useful enough. Normally I would freak out about the potential uses of a free resurrection spell, but Saloc only gifts his followers with the power to bring back the dead once. This forces an awkward ultimatum on an adventuring party if someone ever dies: Do you use this power now, or do you wait for a more important and desperate moment in the campaign and instead spend gold and spell slots? This can end up creating a potential scenario in which this power is never used on the party themselves for the Just In Case situations, and only ever used on NPCs. Don’t get me wrong, that can be fun or dramatic in its own right, but most people look to Boons for the ‘what will this do for the party?’ possibilities.
That it can only affect a specific creature once puts a very, very harsh limiter on this ability that I wouldn’t mind so much if it was Resurrection or even True Resurrection, or at least had an additional effect such as restoring the body to perfect health or being able to work on Outsiders, Undead, Constructs, and the like, all buffs I recommend that DMs consider because it’s both in-character for Saloc and because the restriction is strong enough not to let the ability go completely hog-wild. The fact it’s Raise Dead, the second weakest resurrection magic, and a spell you may already have in your pocket with access to for close to seven levels now, is just a kick in the shin. I normally NEVER spit on free resurrection magic! And I’m not now, because it’s still useful, even if it’s not always useful to the party... But I am shaking my head in disappointment.
You can read more about them here.
