How I Saved $1,500 in 31 Days!

So these computers will be mostly be used for CAD but also video editing. The time we are looking for is in the next few months. It will be running autodesk fusion which at minimum needs 2 cores, recommends 8 for cpu, needs 8gb of ram recommends 32gb, and needs aleast some sort of gpu and something like a nvidia quadro is recommended though I am mostly sure we would do fine with a 40s or 50s series GPU.

This is very funny to me because this is actually quite similar to the conundrum I had buying computers earlier today. Workstations are currently a bitch to get (and also that means that $1500 per device is somewhat unrealistic in the opposite direction of what I was initially thinking, especially given the graphics card)

Thanks for the details! We're beginning to see some stock availability issues with hardware so I'm not finding anything that's a perfect match out-of-box for your needs but I believe I've found a solution that should be comfortably within budget as long as you've got in-house IT or an affordable contractor to help with the build.

What I've found is a Lenovo ThinkStation P3 Tiny that comes with a 20-Core, 14th gen i7 processor, 16GB DDR5 5600 MHz RAM (SoDIMM), and an Nvidia T400 4GB graphics card. The workstation includes an upgraded Lenovo Premiere warranty with next-day onsite service. The ThinkStation has one RAM module soldered to the motherboard but two free slots and can handle a max of 96GB, so I'd recommend purchasing this device and adding 16GB Crucial modules.

Just to be sure, I did verify that the graphics card with this device is on the list of compatible cards from Autodesk.

I'm finding the workstation available from a number of vendors at about $1200, and the RAM is available for around $50. With tax, that brings your per-unit cost to around $1400, leaving just under $100 per machine to account for the labor cost of installing the RAM.

Let me know if this sounds like a solution that works for you, or if you have any further questions.

Given your timeline, you could choose to place orders from vendors who are not carrying the full 30 machines right now, but considering the possibility of scarcity I'd recommend making a decision sooner rather than later.

Part of what I was struggling with on my quote today is that my employer doesn't want our techs mucking around with desktop hardware; we're not supposed to be ordering and upgrading before we send things out the door but that is not a limitation that an end purchaser has to live with so you (reader or anon) have more options and more flexibility when looking for computers than I do *IF* you make sure to check that you can do upgrades. It's not hard to add RAM to a desktop unless the RAM is soldered to the motherboard with no free slots, in which case it's impossible.

You can save a ridiculous amount of money on buying machines and have a LOT of options for dealing with scarcity if you know what kind of hardware is easy to fuck with.

In this instance, I wouldn't upgrade the GPU or by a card separate from the workstation (this computer has a 300W power supply and the computer itself is the size of most power supplies, so I wouldn't want to try to find something teeny tiny to work together), especially because there's a budget-friendly option that will allow the necessary programs to run available pre-built, but literally it would cost like five hundred dollars more to get something with more RAM. So save yourself a few hundred dollars by getting a fifty dollar RAM module and paying someone to install that in the machine or doing it yourself.

I don't think we're going to get to a point of completely empty shelves, but I do think we're likely to see fewer options that exactly match what we're looking for without doing some extra work. Large Bastard has been vaguely making noises about getting a new computer for the last two or three years and he's still on the fence and my comment to him was that I'm sure there's always going to be something available at a high enough cost, but there are going to be fewer choices if he has to replace a computer quickly (which, given the age of his desktop, he might have to at some point).

VnC timeline

I’m mostly an artist in this fandom, but sometimes inspiration strikes and leads me in completely weird directions, such as… figuring out dates of every event in VnC!

With the invaluable help of @retracexcviii, who has created timelines for VnC events before (thank you forever and ever💜) and helped me to avoid some really silly mistakes, I’ve done… this monstrosity of a text, which includes every important canon event I could think of.

— All events are distributed by centuries, starting with XVI and finishing with XIX, and after listing all the events of each century I will put screens of the same texts with correlating manga pages. Additionally, there are numbers of chapters for most of the events.

— Some dates are marked with ~, which means that this date could fluctuate a bit (could be a bit earlier or later). 

— Events that I couldn’t put anywhere specifically are in “UNKNOWN MOMENT” category. I still tried to differentiate them between centuries.

XVI CENTURY

1493-1500 — creation of an engraving; plague, cataclysms, Paracelsius is looking for a way to save humanity.

But looks like an adult in 1650, so he was most likely alive in 1600. He is also younger than Chloe: when she calls him a “child”, he doesn’t correct her.

Even earlier, someone gave Luna the name " Vanitas", which is also reflected in the title of the books.

Before 1702 — Ruthven joins the Oriflamme family, becomes one of the Queen's advisors and a senator. The Queen is still alive, but she is also active as Naenia. Luna sees Jeanne in battle.

After that, the general belief is that Chloe is the master of the mysterious nonexistent Beast and both are the culprits. Her human family is killed. A few days later the Chasseurs (Vampire eradication fraction?) and Ruthven come to Gévaudan. Jean-Jacques becomes a Cursebearer to protect Chloe. Jeanne, now the Hellfire Witch, finds Chloe. Chloe tries to jump off a cliff, but Naenia comes to her again. Chloe also becomes the Cursebearer. Jeanne kills other hunters, but Ruthven saves her, makes her give him an oath (she tries to resist) and puts her in deep sleep. The Beast stops attacks. Conspiracy between Ruthven and the Chasseurs presumably continues.

He meets Johann and Riche. Absence of his glasses and bandages indicate that there could be at least a few weeks or months between the two events.

Before or early 1881 — Roland and Olivier move to Paris. Roland is injured, but it’s unknown how it happened. Olivier’s hairstyle may indicate that it happened earlier than the time when Roland almost died.

Olivier definitely had a title of Obsidian by the time of Granatums’ murder, so some time passes between the day Astolfo met a vampire and the day of Granatums’ murder.

Vanitas and Misha inherit the Books, but are separated, and Teacher takes Misha.

*@torterrachampion mentioned in reblog that Noé is officially 12 years old when Louis’s died ang provided an image from a booklet for the Blu-ray of the anime. I completely missed that fact, so thank you for bringing it up! I’ve decided to change the time range for this event to 1881-1882 for better accuracy.

*It is likely that Noé witnessed Louis’s death around the same time Vanitas and Misha were saved by Luna; bonus card features Noé in the same outfit as on the day of Louis’s death together with Vanitas dressed in his lab clothes. 1881 or 1882 is a possible year for Louis’s death and salvation of Vanitas and Misha. In this scenario Luna dies later than Louis.

UNKNOWN MOMENT (not earlier than 12 years?*) BEFORE 1888 — “death” of Faustina at the hands of her Beasts and Rusven. Luka replaces her on the throne, but the Senate controls him. Strangely, he isn’t even officially presented yet. It’s unknown how old he was when he assumed his current position, but it’s unlikely that the Senate and Beastias would “kill” the Queen without choosing a suitable successor first.

*Alternatively, it could happen earlier, if Loki, Luca’s older brother, was supposed to inherit the throne prior to becoming a cursebearer as well, but was replaced with Luca. But this is a pure speculation.

Northen Israel situation is messy. The Jihad and Hezbollah on one side and the IDF on the other are attacking each other with gunfire and missile fire were exchanged. A missile launcher that was directed toward Israel was found and dismantled by Lebanon’s army. Yesterday there were warnings of a few unmanned drones that crossed the border into Israel. There are definite tension there.

Syria is apparently trying to stay out of it.

there are still regular attempts to enter Israel by Hamas operatives, most are killed immediately. Unconfirmed reports from social media claim that Gazians that try to flee are presumed as Hamas operatives and are shot. No official confirmation by any side.

The west bank is getting more and more tense. Settlers are using the opportunity to attack Palestinian civilians; Hamas supporters are encouraging Palestinian youth to preform attacks; there confrontations between the IDF and Palestinians in the Palestinian and mixed cities.

In the past Few days Israeli and Palestinian groups have been arranging a community peacekeeping groups to help protect each other from extremists.

Yesterday evening Israel has declared a unified war cabinet with several opposition members. Israeli coalition members were met with anger and disdain by the Israeli public, blaming them for the situation.

A semi detailed list of as many ways to get Rainbow Cubes as possible:

Aka I'm saving Rainbow Cubes and want to keep a guide somewhere in case I decide to stop playing for a bit. Plus there's a chance that Eternal Sugar (and maybe also Hollyberry) could get a costume

Coupon codes: We get them every once in a while and while not every code gives cubes, when they do they usually give about 1500 (aka 5 pulls) or 3000 (10 pulls)

Daily ads: Each day you can watch 5 ads, with each ad giving 30 cubes so 150 a day. If you watch all the ads daily you'll have a pull ready every 2 days, or a 5 pull every 10 days

Arena rewards: when you play a certain number of arena battles you'll get 500 rainbow cubes. You can also get more cubes if you manage to get a high score in the arena... but that's hard to do (I myself have yet to get past Master 3)

Guild rewards: If you play in the Guild Battle at least 15 times, you'll be able to earn that season's rewards. And if you're Guild's ranking is high enough one of the rewards you can get is rainbow cubes

Events: One of the rewards you can get most often in events is rainbow cubes, and usually a decent amount too. For example, the current Cake Hound Round up Event can give either 300 cubes to 1200 depending on how high your total score is

Mileage shop: If you have a lot of mileage points saved up after pulling on the Cookie and Treasure Gachas (You can also get mileage via the guild gacha if you pull a treasure or Cream Puff Cookie) then one of the things you can get in the mileage shop is Rainbow cubes. It's not a LOT of cubes, but still pretty good in a pinch (Plus it's like the only thing I use this shop for)

Monster Menace: MM has three chests you can collect, one for Beaquits, one for soulstones and one that gives one of a varying assortment of items including Rainbow Cubes (100-300). It's luck based, but the odds are decent (plus you can get other useful things such as Fateful cutters). You can only get 2 of each chest every 12 hours (aka 4 a day and approximately 120 chests per month). You can also get 800 cubes if you beat a certain number of monster menace stages during the update.

Emerald Fossils: Like Monster Menace chests, getting cubes (50-200) from these is luck based, but the odds are also pretty good. Unlike Monster Menace, you can get quite a few emerald fossils a day, mainly depends on the ore vein cards you find. There's 6 mining slots, and depending on the rarity of the vein you can get either 1, 2 or 4 fossils per vein. (though the rarer a vein the longer it'll take before you can actually claim the reward)

i'm dense with history and emotional baggage, and i fucked up when i was younger, and i'm older now, but that doesn't matter. not here, not like this.

i've got keepsakes in a box, and it's shoes, and hats, and jackets, and things i loaded onto my small, teenage frame as i got in the car and was driven 1500 miles away, and i remember the text messages dwindling down to nothing, and the calls going unreturned, and so yeah, i wasn't at the weddings, or the reunion, and why would they tell me anything at all?

just need to vent about my day real quick

we found a cat, a stray, decided to call him Jeff. he's been lurking by our place for like a month. he comes by Sunday and he has a massive gaping wound right near his eye. it fucking stinks. clearly infected. we decided to take him to the vet bc he might get worse. cleaned him up best we could and try to make him comfortable.

fast forward to today. we are trying to be careful so the stupidhead (Jeff in the cone of shame), doesn't escape.

i didn't see him follow me. didn't see him zip between my legs and take off toward the brush behind our place and out of sight.

it's a high stress situation. he's injured and we don't want him getting stuck somewhere and not being able to free himself. search the woods but we both have to go to work. we're both upset but there's nothing we can do.

i reach out online, trying to do something while I'm stuck at work. i'm posting descriptions of him and even offer my phone number in case someone finds him and needs to let me know ASAP.

huge mistake.

get a call around 11:30 and it's some guys who are telling me they found Jeff. they claim to be part of the county's animal service. they tell me that Jeff was handed over to them after a woman struck him with her car and his legs were damaged. i'm trying really hard not to burst into tears on the phone bc the worst has come to pass. this small animal trusted me enough not to bite and scratch and hiss at me as my sister and I fuss with his wound, trying to clean it so it doesn't get worse.

they say that in order to help Jeff they need a deposit so that the vet can start the surgery to essentially save his legs.

first sign something is off: the number was listed as private and then when I asked for some kind of confirmation, bc something in my gut told me it was weird, the number changed to match the county number.

second: when I asked if I could go down and see Jeff, I was told I couldn't, something about needing to get him in surgery as soon as possible.

third: the place they claimed to be calling from isn't open on Monday - weird, but they claimed to be the EMERGENCY county animal services when i questioned them.

fourth: i asked if i could go down to pay the deposit and i was told no, it could be done over the phone. when i asked if they could take a card, I was told that I didn't need to pay with card, and then that I couldn't pay when I pressed the issue. i was informed that it was simple, i could pay with ApplePay or Zelle or CashApp or etc... a county office cannot accept card? i was told that the machine was down - UNTIL DECEMBER.

if it wasn't already clear, these men were trying to scam me out of 1500$. they were trying to take advantage of my fear and anxiety over a missing pet (reminder Jeff is not my pet, but I hate to see animals suffer). the payment thing was really where I was questioning everything and, although the department they claimed to be calling from was closed, I figured that the county office that that department would have to answer to wouldn't be.

i called the county office. tried to explain everything as best I could, just trying to be sure this wasn't the real deal. the people at the county agreed with me, they would never ask for pay like that.

i hung up on these dudes multiple times bc I was getting bad vibes but kept getting reeled back in bc they kept calling me back and reiterating that Jeff was injured and needed help now.

i just want anyone who reads this to know that scammers are scum, but they prey on bad situations BECAUSE they know there are good people in the world. pet owners especially will do anything for their pets. Jeff wasn't even mine and I was prepared to get a fake surgery underway so he didn't suffer.

scammers will lie bc it's all they know how to do well.

if you ever get into a situation like mine, take a deep breath, and just try to think. make people answer questions, keep asking until you get an answer and, if they don't, ask yourself why they won't.

Jeff is safely back at my place, still adorned with his cone of shame, and looking no worse than when he slipped out this morning - the little bastard. i cried all day bc this fucking cat escaped on my watch and I nearly got scammed bc his dumbass wouldn't stay inside. i cried for another hour when i got home as he kneaded biscuits against my chest.

My goal is to lose weight and tone up my body. And I guess also read the tons of books I’ve never touched before.

How much does being Homeless cost?

Let's say... All else being equal; no food cuz EBT (you don't qualify for EBT if you make 2k+$ monthly.) so, let's just assume everybody pays the same income towards their food.

And phone bill (if you don't qualify for the Trump-Phone, the one the NSA tracks)

And we'll exclude gas to and from work. If you have a car. Or, I mean, if you're in bus/bike distance.

So after all those deductions... What more would you have to pay? Obviously; you're homeless SO ITS NOT LIKE YOU HAVE OTHER BILLS TO PAY. (Drivers Licence costs money)

Well... People don't like you smelling bad..so you still have to pay money at a Laundromat and a shower BARE MINIMUM.

Laundry can cost between $7 and $20 for a single load, depending on where your laundromat is located. Not including soap and dryer sheets.

Which; the prudent among us know that you need the dryer sheets to get the smells the detergent did not.

Or douse yourself in deodorant, fragrance, or febreeze. Well; if you smoke, that's money saved! Better to smell like cigarettes than ass.

The E.R. is free; but let's say you have a [manual labor] job... You need to be able to afford ibuprofen and Tylenol and caffeine so you can wake up and not be completely useless at work.

Well, nicotine works like caffeine too! Money saved!

Well, you still gotta pay for Eyeglasses and Dental work. Cuz the E.R. doesn't cover it either.

Ok. But, where you gonna sleep?

Most of society doesn't like Squatters and Tents in public. So... Bare minimum a campground is $30 a day and might have a shower you can use.

Right off the top; that's $900 a month.

And, in Many places; that's less than rent! Which I've seen as much as $1500 in one of the poorest areas in my state.

Hotels and AirBnB cost between $40 and $75 for the barest day rate.

And AirBnB-Hosts likes to screen their clients because they don't trust them not to run out with their TV.

Since you're homeless, you can only carry what you can carry, so it's often cheaper to go buy a new outfit from Walmart or something *instead* of bothering with laundry.

And using whatever shower you can find like a steam room in order to get some sort of sanitization on your clothes.

The YMCA costs about $30 a month... So... That's a shower... But not a place to sleep.

Still wondering; Where you gonna sleep?

The last few homeless shelters I've visited have a curfew of like 4pm unless you have a contracted job.

Which means doing odd jobs outside of those hours might get you removed from the program.

So, it's extra hard to make a buck.

You could get a job on Fiver, but since many shelters are full; there's also a quiet hours of 9pm and later until they turn the lights on.

At the basest level, you have to juggle sleeping with making money. In a way that many people do not have to do.

You know; having the freedom to do what needs to get done when it needs to get done.

Waiting for a bus can take up to 4hours if you miss it. Say... You've got an appointment with the housing people several transfers away from said homeless shelter.

They say *they* will come to you; but they don't like to.

If time is Money... How much time do you have to spend in Survival mode?

Making enough money for transportation and a camp site means you're in the Luxury-Poor status, and can afford more time not evading authorities sleeping in areas you shouldn't or dealing with homeless services which take a lot of time from you.

And, when they kick you out of the shelter (they will, it's time limited)

You better hope you have a few bucks for a hotel to get to the next warming shelter or homeless shelter.

Warming shelters offer sleeping space at night, but kick everyone out in the morning.

So again; you can only carry what you can carry.

What tools do you need to keep on your person that your work doesn't take care of for you?

A laptop? Headphones? Work phone?

How easy do you think it is make those things appear to be *not worth stealing* around other people who are as desperate as you?

There goes your mental health and ability to connect with people.

Then, if you're spending $900 a month on camp sites or, as much as rent on shitty hotels {$1500 if you're lucky, cheaper if you find a business willing to go down}

And hotel prices fluctuate based on holidays, weekends, and how soon you need to find a place. Which is time negotiating with different hotels months in advance, in the hopes you have the money upfront for reservations, or when you finally make the reservation.

If you got EBT, you're sitting pretty. You can afford prepackaged processed food so you don't get listeria poisoning (food poisoning) from donated food. Which happens a lot more than society will admit.

How many sick days does your work give? Now imagine you're deliriously sick every now and again from improperly stored, prepared, or served food.

No offense to shelter workers who are doing their absolute best with what they've got.

It's a bare minimum of $900 a month in order to be homeless, and you can *maybe* find rest areas and parking lots to sleep at in order to save money.

Depending on your state and other's tolerance of all these poor people on perpetual vacation.

And if you're staying in your car when it's really cold? You're using your car's engine and fuel for heat. Contrary to popular belief; Bon Fires are *not* cheap.

You certainly could get a few blankets to build a nest in your vehicle that keeps the cold out in order to save your engine life and fuel.

Which would then cost about a load per blanket at the Laundromat when it starts stinking, and it will start stinking from sweat. Especially if you're able to make it cozy.

Dealing with mosquitoes and other pests is another matter entirely.

And you still gotta do all the things *normal* people do. You need to keep your skills sharp by studying, you have to workout (which means you gotta go to the Y more if you went that route) or, just avoid a shower until you can shower next.

Definitely have to worry about nutrition and getting your appropriate macros. Which some people end up making meal plans from Nutrition drinks or Whey Protein.

And if you went the bike route; you're never gonna *not* smell.

And every step of the way, you're worried about losing something, misplacing something, or something being stolen that'll rob you of peace of mind, maybe your job, or extra costs on top of all that said.

You'll notice I haven't really put a number to the whole thing yet.

You could check yourself into a mental health clinic or call the 988 number for a lift to a crisis center; all with time limits and maybe costs depending on your access to healthcare.

So, You can't carry a weapon on you. You can't have more than a bag of you're vehicleless as well as houseless.

AND guess what; all these citizens complaining about *immigrants and free hand outs*?

They end up voting against their own best interests because they don't have the access to the social services or communities that they should.

Why that is? Up to them.

So this affects even the constituency being taken advantage of by the billionaires with the "Yeah, no free handouts if you're poor" mentality.

Even the negativity about DEI is because "white people" see white people with rams and black people's and can't make the connection that they share a genetic component with the other poor people running the poor services.

Complaining about DEI recipients as if they're the ones withholding social services.

Which... Is another bad word. SOCIAL WORKER, SOCIAL SERVICES. All bad words among these communities

Living with the bare minimum isn't cheap, not monetarily, not time, not health ways, the least we could do is offer 25¢-$1 coffee and tea and some sandwiches that won't send you to the ER.

The questions I wonder about; where uh... Can we at least offer some undeveloped land for rent and shower space.

And if you're of the mind "Why don't you just hunt and fish?" Bullets are more expensive than steak. And you have to clean and prepare the food with salts or a cooler which needs ice to keep cool.

And that doesn't include the time required to cook the food AFTER it's prepared.

And then there's the issue of whether or not enough people congregate to hunting and fishing grounds and eating all the meat, cuz it's the easiest answer.

Yes, Bow and Arrow is cheaper to hunt with, but requires more time training, tracking, and ensuring a successful hunt.

Why aren't people and politicians talking more about this area we may all find ourselves in at some point?

Do you think that the increasing disparity and unease in these populations would lend itself to ability to defend, much less respect, their homeland in case of incursion?
