And here are my notes on my inspirations and references. There's a lot of 'em, so instead of embedding relevant images one by one I put them in a callout sheet! For accessibility, I also included transcript (with bonus ramblings) below each sheet.

Ofuda circle modeled in Google Sketchup 2017, then lightly transformed in Photoshop to flare out. I tried my best to hand-draw these, but it the results came out really clunky and stiff. I figured if Mononoke shamelessly utilizes 3D in their show, I can too!

Krill and sky kid composition roughly inspired by the Ayakashi DVD cover illustration. On the surface level, the krill's black-and-red color scheme mirrored that of the bake-neko. Not to mention, in the world of Sky, the krill would be the best fit of a mononoke-like entity. The red background is also a nod to the red skies seen during a shard eruption in Sky.

Sky kid gesture based on the Festival Spin Dancer's Tier 3 poses and the Medicine Seller's iconic pose in the Zakishiwarahi episode as inspiration. This was the idea which springboarded this illustration into existence. I wanted to do my take of the Medicine Seller's pose, but in a more dynamic manner: rotate the pose to a profile position and set the ofuda in a diagonal, flared out arrangement.

Cape inspired by tenbin design featured in the 2024 Mononoke movie. This one's an interesting one - I wanted the cape to be a stiff material that doesn't "flap" when in flight - similar to the Aurora wing capes. It ended up looking like a kite of sorts, which I'm not entirely opposed to! I haven't had the opportunity to showcase the back view of this cape design, but I envision it having some mechanical aspects to it - the "wing" which are flared out in this illustration fold in like moth wings, and a little bell is attached to the "tail" part and it jingles a little whenever the sky kid flaps!

Bandana is based on the Scaredy Cadet's hairstyle from the Season of Assembly. Mask design utilizes the 2023 Days of Style mask and the Nintendo Pack mask as bases. Pretty self-explanatory. I basically went onto the Sky wiki and found the cosmetics that most closely matched what I was looking for. Then if necessary, I went to the Office space to do photoshoots to get the appropriate camera angles for them all.

Seasonal pendant inspired by the classic Medicine Seller's necklace and the eye motif featured in the 2024 Mononoke movie. Possibly the only one-to-one homage to the classic Medicine Seller design here, but his garnet necklace was too good of a match to the seasonal pendant. A side tangent: does the new Medicine Seller possess a necklace, let alone a mirror? So far all the shots of him don't feature it. Fascinating.

Dark dragon krill anatomy references a custom figurine crafted by @/escaflowne_n07 on Twitter. Until I found this, I was honestly at a loss finding reference for this - be it on the internet or during in-game photoshoots. The lighting on the krill in-game focused on its menacing silhouette rather than its structure. And not to mention, getting a close-up shot almost always set off the dark creature's aggro. I have no idea how this guy found the references to put this model together - well done!

Mantas, elder constellations, and sun dog references murals in the Cave of Prophecy. Krill aside, the overall illustration was leaning a little too much towards Mononoke so I tried finding opportunities to insert more Sky into it. Added bonus is that now there's storytelling in the background: during a shard eruption, a giant krill rises from the frothing waves of dark water to hunt down a flock of mantas.

Clouds behind the sun dog reference the ones featuring heavily in the Umibozu episode. This illustration has a lot of ocean theming, so I figured this would be appropriate.

Rendering style of the background is lightly inspired by the 2007 Mononoke illustration. Mainly having a 2D inked style to contrast with the more polished render of the sky kid. Funnily enough, this was a tertiary inspiration, which lead to the discovery in the next point!

Dark water waves and sun dog composition heavily references Hokusai's "The Great Wave". The waves were modified to be bottle-green of the Golden Wasteland's dark waters. The sun dog is in the spot where Mt. Fuji is in the original composition. these were all hand-drawn by the way! I merely emulated the style of the source material. As a side note, I also borrowed the spotted sea spray rendering for the krill's red spotlight.

Background pattern taken from the ofuda design featured in the 2024 Mononoke movie poster. Mainly to add some gritty texture to the sky. I worked pretty hard to replicate this ofuda design as a high-res asset so I wanted to use it more!

🎹 - Do they have any hobbies?

Nova -> I don't know if this would be considered scrapbooking in a way but, she loves collecting little things from the places she's traveled from rocks to flowers to a more morbid or gross sort of thing like the shed skin of reptiles or the wings of dead bugs.

Spooks -> metalworking, unsurprising, I know. he's good with his hands and genuinely enjoys working with droids and other sorts of machines, so he enjoys making useful parts, and sometimes he'll make little metal statues and artwork.

🧠 - What do you like most about the OC?

Nova -> can I say everything? ajsjshshsh I genuinely love her so much, but my favorite thing about her is probably her rebellious side. she has a lot of her own inner problems she's dealing with, but she's not afraid to be reckless and seek out adventure which isn't always a good thing I know but I think it makes her feel more real that she has flaws.

Spooks -> honestly I love the fact that he's a scaredy cat (I love his name a lot because of that ajsjjs), like he's a very good ARC trooper and yet simply jumping out from around a corner at him and screaming "BOO!" nearly gives him a heart attack.

💀 - Does your OC have any phobias?

Nova -> this girl is scared of nothing, if anything, phobias should be afraid of her lmao

Spooks -> I think he has a light case of claustrophobia, he's worked in small spaces in ships and other machines throughout his life so the fear isn't as bad as when he was a cadet but sometimes being in a certain claustrophobic situation can get to him and cause a panic attack. the claustrophobia was caused by the bullying he endured as a cadet.

My friend asked me to make this poster for a Sky: Children of the Light fanfiction he is currently in the process of writing! It's about a zombie apocalypse of darkness taking over the kingdom of Sky, infecting both spirits and skykids alike.

Proof and story time under the cut!

In early 2021, ny younger sibling complained that Hearts were expensive while playing this new game called Sky: Children of the Light. I didn't know it, but as far as I could tell it was the transition from Season of Prophecy to Dreams.

I downloaded the game on February 20th, 2021, not knowing what journey I just started. The day after Days of Love 2021 ended, my sibling found out I got the game and moped that they couldn't get double hearts from me for a short while.

I didn't understand the game much during the runtime of Season of Dreams, and I ended up dropping the game for a while, only scrambling to getting candles to purchase the hammock from the Scaredy Cadet before Assembly ended.

Things started picking back up when the Admiring Actor was set to return to the game for its 2nd visit. I had about 65 candles and bought the outfit from the tree and liked the feeling of carrying a large amount of candles.

I started joining my sibling on their candle runs and experiencing the world of Sky as the Little Prince season ran. I had probably gained somewhere around 300 to 400 candles, the exact details have been lost to time.

I watched as Days of Bloom (my first event of the game), Days of Nature (added the activities that became instrumental to my future candle runs), and Days of Rainbow were added to the game, and many more that I'd spend forever listening if I kept going.

The later 2 years of high-school I mostly remember waking up every morning and going through my daily routine of the polluted geyser, part of the Hidden Forest, grandma's mealtime, and sunset turtle back in Sanctuary Islands. All before I started the school day, and more wax collecting during and after.

Because I am a little goblin that loves to collect, as more travelling spirits, seasons, and events stopped by, I would hound down on candle running to make up what I spent those weekends, as well as braving Eye of Eden to get the really good stuff. My sibling wasn't the most patient but still helped me with guiding, and before long, I turned to online resources.

Before I knew it, I had surpassed 1000, 3000, and 5000 candles. I don't remember when i set my sights on 10,000 candles, unfortunately. I moved through a few fandoms in the process, but the drive (and spite) to climb to 10,000 remained.

I didn't share my progress often, but when the conversation shifted just right, I loved to floor people with shock of just how many I carried. I have been called a madwoman (lovingly) more than once, but that just fueled me more.

College left me busy and slowed down for a while, but I still kept going, befriending more skykids along the way.

And that leaves me to today. Thank you, TGC, for bringing so many incredible memories! Here's to many more!

"He was a big old scaredy bat," Sibella answered honestly. She fondly recalled how many times things at the school sent the two into a bit of a tizzy. Hell, she had frightened them on more than a few occasions. Not to mention when her father had shown up for the dance. That had been quite the sight!

"I went to an all ghouls school. Shaggy, Scooby, and Scrappy were the only boys at the school... except for the cadets next door," a toothy smile was shown as the memory slipped over her mind. "This was quite a long while ago."

Thorn hadn’t meant any offense when she’d advised Sibella on meeting Maggie, so she was glad the vampire hadn’t taken any. It was just that the nickname could be a bit of a sore spot for the redhead, and well…Sibella seemed important to Shaggy. So Thorn wanted the younger girl to like her for his sake. The wiccan had a funny feeling that life would be easier for everyone involved if she did.

“You haven’t seen him as he truly is? That’s criminal. I’ll need to have a word with him,” the singer joked. “If only because you’re missing out,” she added. “He makes good arm candy.”

“He’s actually accompanied us all on the red carpet at some point or another, when obsessive fans have cropped up. He’s overprotective like that, but then…we’ve known him since before we blew up. He’s been a friend of ours for years, even if we did scare him a bit at first,” Thorn confided with a mischievous grin, fake fangs on full display. “You said he was your coach? What was that like?”
