i calculated the terminal velocity of a coconut

idk why i did this but I was 0.337 m/s off from the actual answer given by an online calculator so that's cool
#tell me if i did this shit wrong lol#there were a lot of assumptions cause i don't actually have a coconut here#i couldn't be fucked to calculate the projected area and drag of a coconut based on shit i couldn't test#so in reality it's a perfect sphere that's close to nasa's calculations of the drag coefficient of what a perfect sphere would be (0.5)#and the diameter of a coconut is apparently 300-450mm so i picked 375 cause why not#and used the sphere formula for that#i put in the calculations for the density of air into an online calculator too#so really it's the calculation of the terminal velocity of a perfect sphere around the same size and weight as a coconut#done as lazily as possible#and compared to another online calculator#physics#science

Fondle ☀️ Carlos Sainz
carlos sainz x reader
Series Master list
Description: You and him the morning after
Warnings: Mentions of smut, brief smutish (not actual smut though)
f1 masterlist
You slowly open your eyes, squinting against the harsh sunlight peering from the window. You found yourself caged in Carlos’ arms, your back pressed against his chest. You didn’t want to wake up, not yet. It’s probably 6 am right now. “Carlos?” You called him out with all your strength in your sleepy state, your back hurting from the exhaustion. No reply. “I know you’re awake, go close the curtains!” Still no reply.
You groaned angrily and with all the strength left, you turned to hide your face in his chest, trying to block out the light. But he immediately turned to lay on his back, the same back you scratched the hell out of last night. “Ahh,” he moaned in pain when his back rubbed on the sheets. You chuckled and buried your face into the pillow instead.
“Is it hurting, senor?” You spoke, mocking him. (Sir)
“Si, Senorita,” he moans again, and sat up. (Yes, ma’am)
“Now go, close the curtains and let me sleep.”
“NO, wake up!”
“I am tired.”
“But it’s morning.”
“NO!”
“Senorita Princesa, amor de su vida, mi reina, wake up!” He loudly sings. (Madam Princess, Love of my life, my queen)
“UHH!” You groaned. “Please Carlos, let me sleep!” You felt two hands on each side of your waist pulling you up, “Carlos! Stop!” He places you on his lap, his arms now caging your body by your waist.
You wrapped your hands around his neck and rest head against his shoulder, falling back asleep, like a toddler. He chuckles.
“Y/n wake up!” He rubs your back and laughs. “C'mon,” he pleads.
“Okay,” you pull away and place your lips on his, sucking in the name of kissing him. His grip on your waist tightens and you grip his shoulders more tightly, deepening the kiss. You two finally pulled away when you were out of breath, his lips a little swollen. You leaned back to gaze at his chest, which was covered with hickeys from last night. You ran a hand to admire your artwork. “I like it when you give them.”
“HUH? I don’t mind giving them.” His eyes glint with desire.
He switched positions to lay you down on the bed and hovered above. He settled between your legs and dived into you.
The sounds of your and his mixed moans fill the whole room. He laid next to you, catching his breath. You placed your hand on your chest, catching your breath.
“Quite the session, huh,” you gasped.
“Yeah,” he breathed out, his breathing returning to normal.
“I was thinking how about we go date tomorrow? Thursday?” He spoke after few minutes of breathcatching.
“HUH?” You were alert now.
“We will go dress shopping this evening?” He suggested.
“Yeah, that’s a great idea!”
His phone starts ringing. His hands reach for it and he flips to look at the caller ID.
“OMG!” He immediately sits up.
“What happened?” You raised your eyebrows.
“It’s from work,” he replies, picking up the call and placing it on his ear.
You got up to brush your teeth. Few minutes later, you come back to him. He hangs up the call and places it on the table.
He sighs slowly and says, “I have to leave in the afternoon.”

F1 and VO2 Max Training

(x)(x)(x)(x)(x)
What is VO2 Max Training and why do drivers do it?
VO2 Max is the maximum amount of oxygen the body absorbs during exercise and can measure aerobic fitness levels. VO2 = Volume of oxygen consumed by the body per minute - it is one of the strongest predicters of heart disease and death. It is the best measure of cardiac and respiratory fitness available.
VO2 is measured in ml (of oxygen) / kg (body mass) / minute
How much oxygen the body consumes - the amount of blood the heart pumps per minute and how much oxygen was taken from it.
Now...why do F1 drivers need this?
Drivers put extreme demand on their cardiovascular, respiratory and overall physical health during races. Their bodies are subjected to enormous amounts of g-force and experience extreme heat and stress. They need a lot of energy to do this and as a result can burn a lot of calories per race.
VO2 max training is a useful measurement to assess a drivers endurance at their maximum during exercise which they are subject to during a race. The strain they're under during a race would require their bodies to be pushed to the max, requiring optimal oxygen intake and energy production.
It can ensure drivers are fit enough to endure the stress they subject their bodies to despite the environment within the car - maximum speeds/ heat. It gives drivers and their teams a greater understanding of how hard they can push their bodies and also how they can further maximise their performance during races.
Want to know a bit more about the science? Read below.
Now the (more) science-y bit - oxygen is used in respiration and as you breathe in oxygen the lungs turn it into energy called ATP (adenosine triphosphate). This powers the cells and helps release the CO2 in the body that's created during respiration when you breathe out.
The greater a persons VO2 max, the more oxygen a body can consume and the more effectively the body can use this to create the maximum amount of ATP energy and the better the body can handle aerobic/ cardio exercise.
During the test the goal is to get to maximum exercise to determine max heart rate, vo2 max and an estimated lactate threshold. The test measures oxygen consumption and CO2 production using a mask to determine values. The goal is to run at a comfortable speed but not too comfortable for around 10 minutes to max out oxygen consumption and heart rate. During the test heart rate is measured using the ECG dots you can see on the chest.
The Fick Equation is used to calculate VO2.
VO2 (mls O2/ minute) = cardiac output (stroke volume x cardiac output) x arteriovenous oxygen difference (difference in O2 content between arterial and venous blood - how much O2 is used by tissues in systemic circulation).
So in short, VO2 is how much oxygen the body consumes - how much blood the heart pumps per minute and how much oxygen was taken from it.

My interests (some of them):
Pokémon
Science fiction and fantasy novels
Languages (especially Catalan, Russian, Basque and Italian)
Translation (I'm a translator haha) and linguistics
Metalcore, rock, metal, punk, etc.
BDSM
Astronomy
TV shows like: House M.D, 911, Criminal Minds, etc.
Political leftism
Formula 1 (as in not sexualizing or shipping the drivers)
Feel free to ask anything and if my blog is smth you like or you think I might like yours hit me up!
Cheers!

F1 and Biometrics
Biometric gloves came into play in F1 in 2018 to give medical teams immediate access to important information regarding driver conditions after an incident. It allows for vitals to be measured before, at the time of an incident and after the crash until they are rescued and more advanced monitoring is able to be applied. It is also a big help if a driver is involved in a crash that means they are not accessible straight away or cannot be visualized for monitoring so this allows teams to get immediate access to this information.
According to the FIA website, this was a difficulty by medical teams when Carlos Sainz crashed in the 2015 Russian GP where he hit the barrier head-on at 153km/h (roughly 95mph). The first row of the barrier was resting on top of him, so medical teams had to wait for this to be removed before they had access to him. Thankfully he wasn’t hurt during this crash, but medical teams didn’t know this initially as this technology wasn’t available and being used.
The sensors were basically made custom to F1 drivers. Regular sensors had not been fire tested and were not comfortable enough for the drivers to wear for long races. They use Bluetooth technology and can send data within a 500m and are powered by a small battery that drivers charge before races.
Drivers gloves have a 3mm sensor that is stitched into the palm of the fabric and monitors their vital signs during races. They measure pulse oximetry which measures the amount of oxygen being carried in the blood as well as drivers pulse rates. Obviously if a driver has an injury that is affecting their breathing, this will show in the saturations that would decline rapidly. Having this technology allows physiological readings and biometrics to be continuously monitored throughout the race from start to finish. Data from the sensor transmits to an iPhone app and gives medical crews remote and advance information on the driver’s condition. The small biometric readers are flexible and fire resistant up to 1,800 degrees Celsius (3,272 degrees Fahrenheit) for 22 seconds.

In the future there are even plans to implement sensors for respiratory rate and temperature to further monitor drivers which will not only enhance safety features but allow teams and drivers to monitor performance better.
OMP, an equipment supplier, has been developing wearable biometric monitoring systems since the introduction of the biometric sensors in 2019. An undershirt equipped with sensors and a measurement unit would transmit and record biometric data allowing for real-time monitoring of health through ECG and thoracic expansion. This would allow monitoring of drivers heart rhythms and breathing rate which would not only benefit medical teams in the case of an incident but also help identify stress, fatigue and any alteration in conditions. This would be useful considering the amount of stress drivers have been put through in the past in hot countries for example Saudi Arabia GP 2023 when many drivers retired, had to be taken to medical, threw up in their helmets or passed out after the race.

TV crews can also display biometric data during broadcasts to show the physical condition of a driver as they battle on track. However, there have been questions about the ethics and use of biometrics and why can’t we as an audience see drivers heart rates etc on screen if this data is being constantly collected. The FIA has strict guidelines about the use of raw biometric data. Section 2.4 of the FIA Guidelines for the Collection and Usage of Biometric Data in Motorsport, states that the use of biometric data can be used for more than just medical and performance monitoring and can be used for entertainment and marketing purposes but only if it is changed from raw data into a variable to protect the private health information of the driver. The FIA won’t allow the use of biometric data to be publicly available in the original form/ measurement unless the driver provides informed consent.
Essentially, driver onboard vitals are likely not to be available live due to strict laws on data protection and sharing health related information about drivers as it is protected health information. In the case of an accident or emergency, data is not allowed to be used even if the information is changed to protect the driver unless it is for medical and rescue use and post-accident information.
Sources: (x) (x) (x) (x) (x)
This also led me down a rabbit hole and found another study (it was anonymous but if you’re a sleuth you can probably take a guess at what F1 driver it was) where they monitored his heart rate during qualifying to see what his average was throughout the race to test the cardiovascular strain F1 drivers are put under!
