IRVING, Texas (AP) — The Boy Scouts of America is changing its name for the first time in its 114-year history and will become Scouting America. It’s a significant shift as the organization emerges from bankruptcy following a flood of sexual abuse claims and seeks to focus on inclusion. The organization steeped in tradition has made seismic changes after decades of turmoil, from finally allowing gay youth to welcoming girls throughout its ranks. With an eye on increasing flagging membership numbers, the Irving, Texas-based organization announced the name change Tuesday at its annual meeting in Florida.
“In the next 100 years we want any youth in America to feel very, very welcome to come into our programs,” Roger Krone, who took over last fall as president and chief executive officer, said in an interview before the announcement. The organization began allowing gay youth in 2013 and ended a blanket ban on gay adult leaders in 2015. In 2017, it made the historic announcement that girls would be accepted as Cub Scouts as of 2018 and into the flagship Boy Scout program — renamed Scouts BSA — in 2019. There were nearly 1,000 young women in the inaugural class of female Eagle Scouts in 2021, including Selby Chipman. The all-girls troop she was a founding member of in her hometown of Oak Ridge, North Carolina, has grown from five girls to nearly 50, and she thinks the name change will encourage even more girls to realize they can join.
For the first time in the 114-year history of the Boy Scouts of America's history, the name will become Scouting America. This comes on the heels of a decade-plus worth of changes to inclusion in the BSA.

Know what Scouts BSA (formerly known as Boy Scouts of America) says that any uniform piece that has been approved as a uniform piece can continue being worn as a uniform piece even if they don't produce it anymore (probably meant so that lower-income troops don't have to empty their coffers getting Class A's for everybody every few years)
Anyways I think that means I could totally wear a Skort with the knee-high socks and a slightly-tilted beret at a scout event and argue that it's all official uniform pieces. There's probably even a really slutty version of the neckerchief if I look hard enough. I could absolutely SLAY next time the troop goes up to summer camp.

No one asked but Boy Scouts of America get exploited for cheap labor to fund camping trips btw. They also get bullied, harassed, and assaulted by their peers and sometimes by other kid's parents. They also get pressured into being Christian or not being atheist or non religious, and pressured into being nationalist, and pressured into doing pointless rank requirements that no scout actually wants to do. And since it's boys only they can end up in sexist echo chambers with boys who don't know any better and adults who perpetuate or enable it.
Just invest in some camping gear (if you can afford it) and take your kids camping instead of subjecting them to all that pressure and exploitation. Plus no membership fees. At least girls will be able to go too without being in danger or having to do girls only trips in girls only troops which are comparatively underfunded with less members.

Becoming a bird? Yep!
Since April 2019, I've been a proud founding member of my troop in Scouts BSA, a decision that has enriched my life in countless ways. The journey of personal growth and learning in scouting, for which I am deeply grateful, has been made possible by the support and camaraderie of my fellow scouts and leaders. Overcoming my fear of the outdoors, fueled by allergies and a dislike of bugs, was just the beginning.
For those who don't know anything about scouting, you go up in rank as you learn, and the highest rank you can achieve is Eagle Scout. It's not just a rank; it's a massive honour that signifies your dedication, leadership, and service to the community. To achieve this rank, you must complete a project that benefits the community. This task is both challenging and rewarding.
As I finally complete my project and the accompanying paperwork, I am on the brink of a significant milestone. With my Eagle Review scheduled for next week, I eagerly anticipate the moment when I will officially become an Eagle Scout. This achievement holds a special place in my heart, as I will be the third generation in my family to earn this prestigious rank, following in the footsteps of my father and grandfather.

i know scouts BSA isn't super popular right now, but I just want to say to people working on their Eagle projects that go get it done. Turn in your paperwork. Write the report. ask someone for a letter of recommendation. get someone to sign it. Getting your eagle is totally worth it, and you will have so many more opportunities if you get it. if getting hired comes down between you and another person, and you have the eagle award, your much more likely to get it.

"BOY SCOUTS ENJOY VISIT TO FLEET.
Copyright by Underwood & Underwood, K.Y.
The 51st Battalion of the United States Boy Scouts visited the Atlantic fleet, May 15th and captured the hearts of the old mariners aboard the U.S.S. New York. They delighted all who saw by their fine drilling on ducks, and later made jolly on top of the big guns of the ship."

In the South Park episode "Cripple Fight", (June 27th, 2001), the Colorado Supreme Court rules that the Boy Scouts of America must allow Big Gay Al into the Scouts. Big Gay Al states Freedom is a Two Way Street, and drops his case. The BSA now allows homosexuals in the scouts.
