Important Wikipedia article showing how insane cartoons once were
Screwy Squirrel (also known as Screwball Squirrel) is an animated cartoon character, an anthropomorphic squirrel created by Tex Avery for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
The character was known for being brash and erratic, with few sympathetic personality characteristics such as Bugs Bunny's nobility and Daffy Duck's pathos. (Both of those characters are also creations of Tex Avery.)[2] Most of his cartoons saw him paired with Meathead Dog (voiced by screenwriter Cal Howard in Screwball Squirrel, Tex Avery in Happy-Go-Nutty and Pinto Colvig in The Screwy Truant) as his adversary. Meathead's physical appearance differed in between the three shorts in which he appeared (with his ears changing color from grey-blue to black in Happy-Go-Nutty, and donning a new color palette in The Screwy Truant), but otherwise the character remained the same.
Screwy's shorts revolve around his infliction of various forms of torture on Meathead – or another enemy – for seven minutes. In The Screwy Truant, one gag sees Screwy hitting Meathead over the head with everything he can find in a trunk labeled "Assorted Swell Stuff to Hit Dog on Head". When he finishes, Meathead remarks, "Gee whiz! He hit me with everything but the kitchen sink!" Screwy responds with, "Well, don't want to disappoint you, chum", then pulls out that very item and bashes him over the head with it.[1]
The final cartoon in the series, Lonesome Lenny (a broad parody of the characters of George and Lenny from the John Steinbeck novel Of Mice and Men), ends with a scene indicating that Screwy has been killed off as a regular MGM character. The 1946 cartoon begins with a wealthy woman purchasing the squirrel at a pet shop with the intention of giving him to her large dog Lenny as a companion. Pampered and dim-witted, Lenny is unaware of his brute strength; and later, when he hugs Screwy, he accidentally crushes him to death. In the cartoon's closing scene, the dog is now all alone and lying on the floor in his owner's mansion. After casually squeezing and pulverizing a big chew bone with his paw and crumpling his metal food bowl, he sits up, turns to the audience, and says, "You know, I had a little friend once, but he don't move no more." Lenny then reaches into a side "pocket" in his fur and pulls out the flattened body of Screwy. The squirrel is motionless and his eyes are closed. Seemingly dead, Screwy suddenly opens one eye and brings a sign out from behind his back that reads, "SAD ENDING, isn't it?" That gesture cast some doubt at the time on the finality of the crazy squirrel's demise. A similar "death" gag is presented at the conclusion of the 1957 Warner Bros. cartoon What's Opera Doc?, which was directed by Chuck Jones. In that cartoon, however, as a dead Bugs Bunny is being carried away by a guilt-ridden Elmer Fudd, the rabbit awakes to speak to the audience about the opera parody's sad ending.
It is said that the reason why Screwy was killed off in his last cartoon was that Tex Avery grew to openly dislike the character. Animator Mark Kausler used to send Avery letters about his rendition of Screwy, only for Avery to throw away anything related to the character.

for @comfymoth's werewolf cellbit au ^_^
Cellbit's cat is missing, and normally, this wouldn't be a big deal. Richarlyson wanders off all the time and he always shows up back home. But the sun's starting to set and he's not back. And Cellbit's a little worked up because the full moon is tomorrow night and his emotions are always screwy for the entire week beforehand.
He's half way through debating if he should suck it up and just call Forever and admit he's freaking out over their cat when he gets a text from Roier. It's a picture of Roier in his kitchen smiling at the camera with a very familiar white-and-brown cat on his shoulders, and a message that says "I think this is yours."
Cellbit takes several seconds to process how he feels, both about the way Roier looks in the light of the sunset and how his cat should not be at Roier's house. He takes a look at the picture again as he replies and swears Richarlyson looks incredibly smug about the whole thing. That cat's too smart for his own good, but Cellbit loves him enough to drive out to the woods anyway.
Roier is standing on his porch when he gets there, watching Richarlyson sniff at what's probably a squirrel trail. He grins as Cellbit pulls up and quite literally jumps off the porch to greet him. It reminds him of a dog, ironically enough, and he can't help the smile creeping onto his face.
"Gatinho! Hola," he greets, laughing as Richarlyson climbs up his leg to get closer.
"Olá, guapito," Cellbit smiles at him before turning his attention to the cat purring on Roier's shoulder. "Richarlyson."
He only gets a pleased meow in response and a paw reaching out to try and bat at his face. It's very cute, but Cellbit's trying to be a disappointed father so he can't smile and coo at him the way he wants to. Richarlyson lets out another meow, clearly annoyed that his efforts didn't work.
"How did you even get here?" Cellbit sighs, reaching out and picking the kitten off of Roier.
"Maybe he just likes me," Roier offers.
"He loves you, but that doesn't mean he can disappear for hours and show up at your house."
"But it got you here, so is it really that bad?" Roier tilts his head and bats his eyelashes a few times, looking at Cellbit with a smile. "You should come in for a bit." Before Cellbit can answer. "Por favor, gatinho? For me?"
And Cellbit should be going home to prepare for the full moon, but he really can't say no when Roier asks him like that. (He can't say no to Roier at all, but he's ignoring that fact.) He shakes his head with a fond smile and adjusts his grip on Richarlyson, following Roier into his house, and he gets the feeling Richarlyson's purring is because he got exactly what he wanted.

Public Domain Forecast
There's a good amount of hubbub about Mickey Mouse entertaining the public domain next year, and it made me think, so what is the forecast for charters entering the public domain in the next twenty years, with a disclaimer that these only apply to the characters original appearances and you still need to dodge trademarks and this is for US copyright. And of course this is just a highlights list that will mostly be cartoon and comic characters.
2024 (1928): Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, Tigger (Winnie the Pooh)
2025 (1929): Popeye, Tintin, Buck Rogers

Tumblr media
It seems like a tall task, but there is a way to do it.
Tumblr media
As you saw with Spongebob, Cartoon Physics (or Toon Force) can get extremely wacky. The Fastest Speed Feat ever calculated is now within a Cartoon Sponge (but he’s still slower than the Incalculable speeds of Archie Sonic and the Flashes). Practically anything that can’t be done can be done thanks to Cartoon Physics. Is it even possible to defeat it? There is, but first you must know the rules of Cartoon Physics…
Tumblr media
Rule 1 - No, not at any time, only when it was funny.
The first thing to understand is there is a reason for these actions. They do it because it's funny. It’s how one moment Spongebob can’t lift two marshmallows and another he rotates the planet yet not gravity. It really depends on what could get a laugh. You may not find a specific thing funny, but someone else did. And that’s enough to make it work. So if you don’t think Teen Titans Go is funny, that’s not going to stop them from doing all their wacky stuff because there is someone who will.
Tumblr media
Rule 2 - It's laughter that keeps a toon young…
When the laughter stops, a toon grows old and forgotten. Remember Screwy Squirrel? His cartoon physics can rival that of Bugs Bunny or the like. But because he has been forgotten, he is basically erased from any contention of people’s favorite cartoons. And if his old media is lost for time, he might as well be dead.
Tumblr media
Rule 3 - We may be bound by a certain moral code…
Not all Toon Force are equal. They are bound to the character’s core. Twilight Sparkle, for example, has a little bit of Cartoon Physics. It's how she can survive being smashed by various things. But her Toon Force pales in comparison to Pinkie Pie’s, who has done things that Twilight can’t do because she is a person of logic and reasoning. She isn’t as absurd as the Pink Menace.
Those are the three rules to Cartoon Physics. Now that you know them, how do you beat them? There are definitely ways to do it but it’ll be tricky.
Tumblr media
Method 1 - Remove the Humor (Realistically)
A master of Toon Force’s greatest strength is bringing their opponent into their madness. They get so wrapped up in the shenanigans it opens so many opportunities for comedy. To defeat that, the opponent must be able to keep things serious. While there could be jokes to be made, there’s not a lot of them. Examples of this working include the Mask losing to Lobo when he used a Guilt Grenade to make the Mask see all the horrors he actually did. Or in Spongebob Vs Aquaman where the little sponge empathized with the lame hero and gave him the opening with the Trident. If you can make it a serious event, you can reduce their effectiveness.
Tumblr media
Method 2 - Remove the Humor (Reality Warpers)
You’re a reality warper. You can do anything you wish. But despite that, this creature with Cartoon Physics is capable of matching you. What to do? Simple. Remove any source of Humor. Keep them alone with nothing to bounce off of. Sure, they could entertain themselves, but you can only do so for long. Eventually, when it's just the two of you, they’ll be powerless to stop you. So you can just let them simply grow old and forgotten… Or be like Nickelwise and steal their soul.
Tumblr media
Method 3 - Don’t be the Aggressor (Realistically)
For some toons, their best use of Toon Force is when they’re dealing with people who are aggressive with them. Look at the majority of Bugs Bunny Cartoons: Elmer Fudd, Marvin, that Opera Singer, they eventually became aggressive towards your favorite Wabbit. But two characters seem to always get the upper hand on him: Cecil Turtle and the Gremlin. They do not act aggressively towards Bugs Bunny. In fact, the Gremlin is more Tweety like in his fight against Bugs. This makes Bugs Bunny the Antagonist. So all the Toon Force he once wields to get a rise of his aggressors is now used to basically make him look like a fool. And as seen in some Classic Cartoons, can lead to their deaths.
Tumblr media
Method 4 - Know your opponents limits (Realistically)
As mentioned before, not all Toon Force users are equal. If you can figure out their specific limitations, you can find a way to win thanks to those limitations. If Popeye’s best stuff is when he eats Spinach, just try to make sure he has no access to it. Hard to do when he can will it out of nowhere but if Bluto can do it for a time so can others with superior speeds. If their best stuff is when they’re being attacked, make them the Aggressors and Rope-a-dope them. If you can figure out their character trait that makes their Cartoon Physics work, you can figure out a way around it.
Tumblr media
Method 5 - Out Toon Them (Other Toon Force Users)
Not all Toon Force Users are the same. Some are superior to others. And if that’s the case, they could realistically push themselves to places the other wouldn’t or even couldn’t. As seen in Multiverse Match’s Fight between Donald Duck and Daffy Duck. Donald was just able to do things that Daffy couldn’t. So Donald won the fight.
Those are the Methods of defeating Cartoon Physics. Will we see someone who does not have a lot of Toon Force be able to defeat someone who does? Who knows. Only the future will tell…
