013. a great ballroom during an elegant party . // @rabbitholewritten i had to okay
drabble prompts!
-
There’s still a part of Lark that doesn’t feel like he should be here. He stands stiffly on the edge of the ballroom, hands clasped at attention in front of him, and eyes focused on his charge his ruler his friend. Harper.
Harper, who brought him back after he ran away. Harper, who appointed him as their personal knight, even after learning of his failures.
What if he fails again? What if he’s unable to protect them?
They’re dressed in the finest robes, looking regal and dignified. He knows they must loathe having to do this, somewhat — the politics, the presentation — but they keep up the appearance well. The colours of their clothes stand out even more than everyone else’s, even more than the party’s luxurious decorations. Or maybe it’s just him.
Whispers drift across to him. Eyes rest heavily upon him. Lark pretends like he can’t notice the stares, or the talk of the fallen knight. He straightens his shoulders, steadies his breathing, and then Harper looks across at him.
And instantly, something in him relaxes. He smiles at them, not quite as brightly as he used to… but close. The smile they return makes it feel like everything could be okay.
Because if they believe he can be their knight, then who is he to question them?

Un-horny BG2 mods
Ok, so I often hear that BG2 mods are very horny--not denying that, but here are some horny-free BG2 mods that I enjoy. I'm only including Quest and NPC mods here. I'm also only including mods that I have entirely played through myself.
The White Queen, by Lava: a quest mod that allows player to visit brand new place - Silent Swamps - where something happened some time ago. Curious? Let yourself discover what lies under the layers of the mud, meet the White Queen and her servants. Also, the music is bangin'
I Shall Never Forget, by Lava: This Baldur's Gate 2 mod allows you to work with Orion - a mage who has lost the sense of his life. Either help him regain what he lost or let him die without the faintest ray of hope.
Southern Edge, by Lava: Southern Edge is a new district for Athkatla available from the very start, once you talk to Gaelan and hear his offer. You can get a Book of Intelligence as a reward for one of the quests, and there's a scribe who will buy your unneeded quest documents (like The Tome of Amaunator, the Noontime Ritual, the Book of Kaza, etc. It's a nice lore-friendly way to get rid of some items)
Ooze's Lounge, by Lava: The mod introduces a brand new part of Athkatlan sewers. You may now use the originally inactive grate in Slums to enter a locked part of the sewers and discover its dark corners. The mod offers three new areas as well as a couple of mini-quests, new items and graphics.
Yoshimo Romance, by Lava: Mod includes 16 timered talks with Yoshimo (pre-Brynnlaw) plus those fired by circumstances - including talk in Brynnlaw and at entrance of Spellhold. Those who love reading may also install additional portion of text - dialogues for both male and female players fired by in-game events. There's no horniness here; the most you can do is kiss his cheek once, IIRC
Everything else, by Lava: seriously, all of his mods are great, and none of the ones on his site are horny
Trials of the Luremaster, by Argent77: This mod makes the Icewind Dale expansion "Trials of the Luremaster" available to BG2:EE (v2.0 or later), Siege of Dragonspear and EET (Enhanced Edition Trilogy).
✨Adrian✨, by Rhealla: Adrian has lived an interesting life, for lack of a better term, though he's hoping to finally put his past behind him. Aside from his magic, he has a background in espionage and a decadent -- some might say romantic -- streak that has gotten him into trouble in the past. He once pursued (and ultimately wrecked) a political career with one of the most notorious organizations in the Realms, and may very much enjoy the opportunities for intrigue the Shadow Thieves have to offer... if you can drag him away from fighting with the Harper and the Red Wizard long enough to notice, that is. Don't let his alignment scare you off. He's the least evil Evil character in the game, and his alignment can seamlessly shift to LN. He does fine in my good-aligned playthroughs. His romance isn't particularly horny--he offers once, but you can turn him down just fine (and there are multiple ways to tell him no). He's by far my favorite romance and favorite NPC in the game; I am not normal about him at all; and I could probably write an entire essay about his character arc. Please do try him out
Sir Ajantis by jastey: With this modification Ajantis can be acquired as a member of the PC's group after the fight in the Windspear Hills (which was not changed by the mod principally). The player must first solve a quest to free Ajantis from Firkraag's ransom. You have the option to continue his romance from BG1 or start a new romance with him--I've done the new romance route, and I didn't notice any horniness.

What I Read: May
Since I find things to read from other folks’ recommendations, figured I’d start keeping lists myself if anyone sees anything that strikes their fancy.
Fiction
Perfume & Pain by Anna Dorn
4.25/5 || Excellent, homage to lesbian pulp, main character is a disaster of her own making.
Having recently moved both herself and her formidable perfume bottle collection into a tiny bungalow in Los Angeles, mid-list author Astrid Dahl finds herself back in the Zoom writer’s group she cofounded, Sapphic Scribes, after an incident that leaves her and her career lightly canceled. But she temporarily forgets all that by throwing herself into a few sexy distractions—like Ivy, a grad student researching 1950s lesbian pulp who smells like metallic orchids, or her new neighbor, Penelope, who smells like patchouli.
Bad Summer People by Emma Rosenblum
3/5 || It’s fine. Nothing memorable, but an easy beach read.
Jen Weinstein and Lauren Parker rule the town of Salcombe, Fire Island every summer. They hold sway on the beach and the tennis court, and are adept at manipulating people to get what they want. Until a body is discovered, face down, off the side of the boardwalk.
Very Bad Company by Emma Rosenblum
3.25/5 || Very readable, decent if not memorable mystery, another easy beach read.
Every year, executives at the trendy tech startup Aurora gather the company’s top employees for an exclusive retreat in Miami. When one executive vanishes after the first night, the disappearance has the potential to derail the future of the company’s sale and cost everyone on the team millions. Now the team must continue the charade–partaking in team building exercises, group brainstorms, dinners–in order to keep the future of Aurora afloat amid all the fatal speculations.
The Heiress Gets a Duke by Harper St. George
3/5 || Easy, quick, The Gilded Age but the main character insists on modern feminism
American heiress August Crenshaw has aspirations. But unlike her peers, it isn't some stuffy British Lord she wants wrapped around her finger--it's Crenshaw Iron Works, the family business. When it's clear that August's outrageously progressive ways render her unsuitable for a respectable match, her parents offer up her younger sister to the highest entitled bidder instead.
Nonfiction
Surprise, Kill, Vanish: The Secret History of CIA Paramilitary Armies, Operators, and Assassins by Annie Jacobsen
4.5/5 || Highly recommend. Engaging, eye-opening, and a fuck ton of ‘…oh no…’
Despite Hollywood notions of last-minute rogue-operations and external secret hires, covert action is actually a cog in a colossal foreign policy machine, moving through, among others, the Bureau of Intelligence and Research, the House and Senate Select Committees. When diplomacy fails and overt military action is not feasible, the President often calls on the Special Activities Division, the most secretive and lowest-profile branch of the CIA. It is this paramilitary team that undertakes dramatic and little-known assignments: hostage rescues, sabotage, and, of course, assassinations.
Unruly: A History of England's Kings and Queens by David Mitchell
4/5 || Very interesting, but written in a tone you’ll either mesh with or not.
Taking us right back to King Arthur (spoiler: he didn't exist), David tells the founding story of post-Roman England right up to the reign of Elizabeth I (as the monarchy began to lose its power). It's a tale of narcissists, inadequate self-control, excessive beheadings, middle-management insurrection, uncivil wars, and at least one total Cnut, as the English evolved from having their crops nicked with menaces by the thug with the largest armed gang to bowing and paying taxes to a divinely anointed King.
The Pentagon's Brain: An Uncensored History of DARPA, America's Top-Secret Military Research Agency by Annie Jacobsen
4/5 || Interesting, but drags a bit in the second half. Again, so much ‘…oh no…’
No one has ever written the history of the Defense Department's most secret, most powerful, and most controversial military science R&D agency. In the first-ever history about the organization, New York Times bestselling author Annie Jacobsen draws on inside sources, exclusive interviews, private documents, and declassified memos to paint a picture of DARPA, or "the Pentagon's brain," from its Cold War inception in 1958 to the present.

Refs for the power couple of the Mojave. 😳
Tumblr media
(Heres what it all says if its a lil hard to read!)
Harper Virgil Navarro-Garland ( he/him, 24, gay, intersex, transmasc )
Tagged Skills: Science, Medicine, Repair
- His moms, Catherine and Janae, raised him in vault 101 with his much older half-brother, Dante. His moms were friends with James, the Lone Wanderer’s father, so he grew up with the LW.
> He was childhood friends with Amata and Lucas.
> Had a romantic interest for Lucas.
> He was bullied by Scarecrow (LW) and Butch Deloria, however they are friends by the time they arrive in the Mojave.
- Became a BOS scribe, while Dante became a Knight- these titles were short lived considering they both abandoned the BOS.
- Janae and James both died during the Enclave attack on the Jefferson Memorial, Janae’s body being found in a sewer system that she tried to escape through- however her injuries were fatal.
- Generally speaking, project purity was successful with the efforts of Scarecrow, Lucas, and Harper. Collectively they did things that helped DC, however the general trust they had for the Brotherhood of Steel was very slim by the end of the main events of F3(post Broken Steel), which is why they were pretty quick to leave DC with The League.
- Before travelling to the Mojave, he and his family were apart of a group that helped The League out in Chicago to prevent the Brotherhood of Steel from taking over. (2278-2279)
> This group that came from DC consisted of him, Dante, Catherine, Scarecrow, Butch, Lucas, and Charon. They were all brought to Chicago by Tashaun Bruce via vertibird.
> At this point Harper and Charon are in a romantic relationship, which ends once they start their journey to the Mojave in 2280. It made the journey a little awkward but, they remained civil and friendly!
- His group, after a few stops for maintenance and refueling, landed safely near Northside. Tashaun drops them off and bids farewell, and they all stay in Westside for awhile. Charon left first to find work as a mercenary or as a caravan guard. Meanwhile, Harper’s family and Lucas were advised to go to Freeside by Tom Anderson, who asked them to take their skills there so that they could assist the Followers and New Vegas in general.(2280)
> Around this time is when Harper meets Soda-Pop, Kara Roths, Julie Farkas, and Arcade Gannon.
> Became work partners with Julie and Arcade, but worked mainly as a field doctor and representative of the FotA who travelled with Kara and Soda.
- In the beginning of year 2280, Harper and Soda start an on again off again romance for awhile until officially being together. However, Harper fell deeper into his addiction to Med-x, which caused him to be absent in the relationship- and that led to him taking a step back and breaking it off with Soda.
> Harper had this addiction from 2277 to mid 2281.
> Harper becomes friends with Sarsaparilla and Jasper Steele around this time.
> Around mid 2280, he chose to try and focus more on his work as a researcher and doctor… which caused him and Arcade to begin a romantic relationship. They had been friends for awhile, however upon spending more time with eachother they caught more intimate feelings.
- In early 2281, Harper, Julie, and others led the beginning of the independence against the main heads of the Mojave. The Followers of the Apocalypse became a beacon of hope, taking in people from various factions- as refugees or as helpers.
> As tensions got higher between the independence and the ncr/legion/house, things got progressively more dangerous. Because of this, one day while scouting with Jasper and Sarsaparilla, a legionary saw the trio, and shot Harper’s left eye- aiming for the brain, but luckily missed.
Factions/settlements recruited by/protected by the FotA for the independence: Jacobstown, The Great Khans, Novac, Freeside, The Kings, Enclave Remnants, The Boomers.
- Has three kids— Catherine (2282, born soon after the 2nd battle of Hoover), Marlyn (2285), Miguel (2287). He has Catherine with Arcade, Marlyn with Soda-Pop, and Miguel with Cora. They’re all poly/were in a polycule after the Independence won.
- Loves to draw, doodle, and create little statues out of metal scraps and clay.
Arcade Israel Gannon ( he/they, 35, gay, intersex )
Tagged skills: Science, Medicine, Energy Weapons
Canon information: Arcade Gannon is apart of the Followers of the Apocalypse at the Old Mormon Fort. He is a doctor of medicine and got most if not all of his training from the Followers. In 2281, He works mainly as a botanical researcher, due to not being- in his words- a “people person”. They are a man led by their firm moral beliefs, supporting an independent Vegas and individual freedoms. He puts himself down a lot, however they are not only witty, but fairly charming.
Background + headcannons:
- Was born at the Navarro base in 2246 to Mark and Nancy Gannon.
> Mark was an Enclave officer, and Nancy was a vertibird mechanic.
> Both of Arcade’s parents worked at the Navarro military base around the same time that Catherine did when she was younger. They worked in very different sections, but did know of one another.
> His mother died pretty recently, probably a few years before the events of fnv, mainly due to health complications.
- Arcade spent a lot of their teenage years in The boneyard, that being where he got their medical knowledge. When the brotherhood and NCR started cracking down on weeding out former Enclave personel, him, his mom, and the enclave platoon he called family moved progressively closer to the New Vegas area to avoid prosecution. (Probably left the Boneyard when he was 18.)
> Had a few boyfriends growing up, however they never let them get too close, because of being the son of an Enclave officer- and also given him and their family’s inability to settle given the actions of the BOS and NCR. This defensive emotional wall persisted into his young adult and adult relationships.
> They feel extreme guilt over being related to a man who was apart of a fascist paramilitary organization, hiding it from anyone and everyone for a long time. Harper was the first person he tells in detail about his situation, Harp was accepting- considering Catherine was a doctor and scientist for the enclave when she was 18.
- Has been working and living in the Mojave since 2277, and has been a Follower since 2278.
- Arcade has several journals filled with neat, organized notes. He also has a few that are full of various poems, being his main way of venting out a lot of his thoughts.
> In his scientific research he includes small, simple doodles of various plants that he studies.
- When Arcade met Harper, he felt extremely silly- falling head over heels for the fellow doctor… however he kept his distance, out of fear and considering that they didnt work much together when Harper first joined the Followers. When the working situation changed, Arcade managed to charm Harper with witty comments about pre war literature and science jokes- granted he was extremely awkward at first, Harper always thought it was very cute.
- Fights with the enclave remnants in his father’s old gear during the second battle of Hoover Dam, proud of himself for gaining the confidence to do the right thing in his father’s memory. After the battle at Hoover Dam, and becoming a father, he shifts from being a researcher to being a doctor- wanting to help more directly.
Anyways yeah… 😳👉👈 my scrimblos that I love so very much… thank you JE Sawyer for creating Arcade Gannon.

I don’t have much to say, really.
I feel better. I feel like I got a lot more done at work today. I woke up and was staring at my feet and when I finally lifted my head at the street corner, the world was full of smoke. Longest day of the year and the world is cloaked in a sudden dense mysterious fog is very 2024.
The new girl had to be driven to some training, since she gets dropped off in the morning. She’ll be gone for a few days next week for a funeral. I was almost late because I couldn’t get out of bed. No one else was there, except for the overflowing sales staff.
Lois asked if we needed anything, she was going to the grocery store, and I said, “A rhubarb pie,” so she bought us one. One after one, people searched for me as I was on my lunch break, and I held court from my mango fruit popsickle with my scribe, Harper, at the threshold. “I restart the 30 minute timer every time this lunch gets interrupted.”
Jay, a kind of elderly surfer, maybe just a Parrothead, installs our monuments when we are in a pinch. He reset a slant one of our lawnmowers knocked off sideways and a daughter had to grapple with all alone on Father’s Day to try to set right herself. She was nearly there, but it was still pushed forward on its base entirely. Jay fixed it.
Harper listened to a 50 episode series on a woman being framed for the murder of her cop boyfriend by the cops who actually murdered him. She wears headphones all day, but expects me to be listening to her muttering in the corner to herself faithfully, and I do.
I had a chicken parmigiana after work that completely knocked me out. I write this in a brief moment of consciousness.

Much of the bulk of an English historical dictionary is there because of poetry. Metrics give curves to the language when it dresses up for literature: elaborated metrics are a closet of garments English can slip into or out of. Poets need furry words and slinky words. Poets ride the language hard and leave a mark.
***
You read an old text and you see a hand with a pen moving across a page, copying or forming the letters of what's already been thought or worded. In the Anglo-Saxon glossaries and margin notes, where a scribe is matching Latin to English, you can see the mind hesitate, step back, ponder the word, think about other words. That thought has left traces in the choices made. Track, spoor, footprint in the mud under the window.
***
This is the forest primeval. The murmuring pines and the hemlocks, Bearded with moss, and in garments green, indistinct in the twilight, Stand like Druids of eld, with voices sad and prophetic, Stand like harpers hoar, with beards that rest on their bosoms.
That is English written in a correct Latin meter; it is how Latin poets would sound if they wrote in English. But they didn't, and if they had, they would have learned sense enough not to try that. Longfellow does it as a deliberate deformation, and though the lines are lovely and powerful, you can see why it can't sustain for more than a verse or two, in our English. Our thumps of accent make the line crack in the English-speaking mind into two or even three (the second line).

Seth was ready for fight club. He doubted he'd have even a remote chance at winning the whole thing given his age but fuck that didn't mean he'd try. And if he didn't, he'd feel better beating the shit out of some folks along the way as therapy. Second fight so no pressure. He stepped into the ring after Rowan won his (good for him!) and met Simon on the other end of the large field. The barrier protecting the attendees on the outside and keeping the fighters in restored itself and the announcer's voice rang out declaring the next battle Seth Harper vs. Simon Blackwell. Fortunately, he knew enough about his opponent living in the castle –– Simon was a young neko spirit who served as the assistant scribe for the council after having been a slave... Gotrik Stenberg's slave to be exact. Seth's eye twitched at the little of the memory of the councilman he wished never returned.
The bell rang as soon as both fighters were in the ring and Seth moved swiftly, summoning two massive chunks of earth into rocks and launching them right at Simon across from him.

The Myth-Making Marketing of Amina al-Sirafi
Tumblr media
Shannon Chakraborty’s 2023 novel The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi thrives off the tension between the focus on accuracy in historical narratives and the embellished storytelling of myth and legend. The plot of the novel features the notorious former-pirate and nakhudha (shipmaster) Amina al-Sirafi telling the story, in her own words (“even if they’re rude”), of how she was lured out of retirement for one final life-changing opportunity. The story itself takes place in and around the medieval Indian Ocean and directly discusses the interwoven cultures of the countries of northern Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. While most of the book is directly from Amina’s perspective, Chakraborty frames the narrative by including the character of a scribe named Jamal, who is writing down Amina’s accounts of the novel’s events. Jamal opens and closes the novel as well as including interludes throughout that provide collected folktales and historical documents that add context and weight to Amina’s adventure. This deliberate attention to the myth-making present alongside historical evidence is highlighted best by the end of Jamal’s introduction: “But for the sake of honesty, another truth will be confessed. Her adventures are not only being told as evidence of God’s marvels. They are being told to entertain.” Chakraborty, a self-described “lover of history,” is intentionally leaning into the historical conventions of the storytelling present in fantastical collections of tales like One Thousand and One Nights, and the marketing and design of the book emphasizes Amina and Jamal’s connection to this storytelling tradition.
After the success of her first series of books The Daevabad Trilogy, it’s clear that Harper Voyager (the fantasy and sci-fi imprint for HarperCollins) went all in on the marketing of The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi, the first book in a potential new trilogy. Helped by Chakraborty’s active social media presence on Twitter and Instagram, the marketing campaign for the novel officially began in September 2022 (six months before the novel’s release) with a cover reveal posted on social media by Chakraborty, Harper Voyager, and Tor.com (a prominent online publisher of Fantasy and Science Fiction), though it’s worth noting that Chakraborty had been posting about her process of writing and publishing the novel for months prior (such as the “page passes” I’ve included below).
Tumblr media
While the cover already evoked the kind of legendary pirate story readers might be looking for with its giant tentacled sea creature attacking a pirate ship, Chakraborty and Harper Voyager UK utilized the release of the UK cover, an allusion to the Islamic illuminated manuscripts of the medieval Middle East, to emphasize the historical fantasy narrative of the novel. October also began Harper Voyager and Harper Voyager UK’s giveaways to advertise the novel, including foil proofs with the illuminated UK cover.
Tumblr media
In January 2023, Chakraborty and Harper Voyager began to advertise pre-orders for the book, including some copies that came with dagger-shaped, wooden bookmarks somewhat resembling Amina’s khanjar, which she received from her pirate grandfather. This limited offer of bookmarks played into the aesthetics of the pirate fantasy of the book while also encouraging readers to pre-order for a chance to get a gift unique to the book that any reader could use.
Tumblr media
In February, alongside an excerpt of the book, free to read on Tor.com, Chakraborty released the image of “The Map of the Great Indian Ocean” showing the setting of the novel, while also incorporating historical references as easter eggs in the illustration. And on February 28, a brief book trailer was shared on Chakraborty’s social media alongside the book’s release.
Tumblr media
With the benefit of one successful trilogy under her belt and the marketing team at Harper Voyager, Chakraborty was able to create an aesthetic and narrative for her medieval pirate, historical fantasy novel months in advance of the book’s release. The marketing’s emphasis on visual posts and artifacts that readers could look at, win, and potentially buy provided a clear sense of anticipation for the story that inspired readers to learn more, discuss online, and pre-order the novel. Chakraborty had a clear intention with the structure and design of the storytelling, alluding to medieval Islamic folktales and pirate legends, and the marketing reflected and effectively built upon that intention with the design of its six-month social media plan.

𝐎𝐂 𝐄𝐌𝐎𝐉𝐈 𝐀𝐒𝐊𝐒!
Will be doing Era because she is On My Mind!
Tumblr media
🤥 LYING - are they good liars? do they have tells to show they're lying?
Oh, Era is an excellent liar. Her experience as both a guild artisan/merchant and her training as a bard has done a great job on building up her ability to lie with a straight face. When it comes to anything relating her job as a guild artisan/merchant, bard or harper? The lies flow from her lips as smooth and warm as honey. She has built masks upon masks to define herself by what other people belief she should be, and uses that to her advantage. However, every once in a while, she stumbles and blurts out the first thing that comes to her mind. This happens more and more often, the closer she is to a person, her bardly persona cracking underneath the comfort of a steady trust.
🌙 MOON - what is your oc's greatest wish? how far are they willing to go for it?
Era's greatest wish is to be remembered. She has always felt invisible, which is why she became a bard so that people would pay attention. She wants to be an author of, yes I am laughing, Volo's renown, and go down in history for that. Still, as much as she wishes to be worthy of being remembered, she has a strong sense of morality, and she is not willing to cross her limits, no matter how desperate she is to get affirmation that she is worth something.
🌌 MILKY WAY - what was the inspiration behind your oc? what was the first thing you decided about them?
Era is actually my first DnD character, transferred and modified for BG3. Originally, she was meant to be a rogue, but as I made her more than five years ago, I decided to change her to the bard class so that she would play the role of healer. The first thing I decided about her, aside from making her a tiefling, is actually that I wanted to fit her colorscheme to the bi flag, because I made her around the time I was realizing I am bi myself. There is no true inspiration behind her, but I wanted to make her a sort of dashing robin hood like figure. She also had a differently tragic backstory (adopted by nobility as a charity case because oh look we are so good and nice so we adopted a tiefling), but welllll... I no longer like that backstory so I decided to change it.
📎 PAPERCLIP - a random fact.
Her guild artisan background is that of a scribe/transcriber/scrivener/calligrapher! She learnt it at her mother's knees and it taught her a great deal of subterfuge, as a big number of her mother's clients were high profile politicians desiring a professional to write poetry for their beloveds/fiances with the utmost secrecy.
@rasaltav (tagging you here, since I took a snapshot of your question!)

Baldur's Gate 2/3 Original character: Dahlia Kiraed
She is a representative for both Baldur's Gate 2 and Baldur's Gate 3, although her Baldur's Gate 3 appearance would be more akin to an AU. But I have a lot of crazy head canon.
Basic background (Baldur's Gate 2 setting)
Name: Dahlia Kiraed
Race: Human
Age: 23 (two years older than Gorion's ward)
Profession: mage
Profession before adventuring: scribe and clerk in a small shop that deals with magical items and scroll in Beregost
Religious affiliation: Azuth
Alignment: true neutral
Tumblr media
Biography
Dahlia is the eldest daughter of Alianna with a follow priest of Bhaal from a one night stand. Even prior to her father's death at a very young age, she had little interaction with him; while her mother gave her the minimum of care. Dahlia would grow up in a temple of Bhaal with many other Bhaalspawns. Amidst them would be her mother's twin children with Bhaal: Elena and Sarevok.
Upon the temple being attacked by Gorion and a group of Harpers, Dahlia would be taken in by Kolnath (an elven mage whose friend knew Gorion). Kolnath knew her distant relatives from many generations ago. She would spend the next few years of her life with him in Beregost, before they parted way with her being sent to an academy in Baldur's Gate, while he would return to his city of origin. In the academy, Dahlia would become a worshiper of Azuth. After her graduation, she would work for a fellow worshiper of Azuth, who opened up a small shop dealing with magical artefact in Beregost.
At 22, she would be reunited with her half sister, who was Gorion's ward, and choose to adventure with her. Even though Dahlia is very fond of her sister, she does often point out that the other is very naïve and sheltered. Her relationship with Sarevok in the third game would be much more antagonistic, and she would even say that Sarevok should have been killed all these years ago.
Later on, she would reveal that Kolnath actually intended to kill Sarevok, but was not able to. She ended up saving Kolnath's life, which would be one of the reasons that the other took her in and raised her up. As she is two years older than both Elena and Sarevok, she has a much better recollection of what was going on in the temple. However, she also chose to hide her knowledge and only revealed it when she has to.
In Baldur's Gate 2, I actually pair her up with Adrian Sianodel, which is a NPC mod created by Raella in Spellhold studio. This is one of the best mod I have ever played and the writer did a really excellent job in creating a character that is civilized evil. Unfortunately, I am not able to contact Raella, the author of the mod. Not that I would be posting my fan fiction, but I would like to have that option.
After being captured along with Elena, Dahlia would be given to the duergars, where she was obliged to clean and cook for them. This then allowed her to met Adrian. After they escaped from the dungeon, the two of them would spend more time together, eventually becoming lovers. Once the whole issue of the Throne of Bhaal is resolved, Dahlia and Adrian would get married, and eventually settling down in Waterdeep, with Dahlia opening up a small shop that deals with magical artefact and scrolls.
Basic background (Baldur's Gate 3 setting)
Note: The Baldur's Gate 3 setting requires a much more major suspension of belief, and is probably a bit more idealistic by making Raphael into a much nicer character then what he is. Even though he is still evil by the contracts he deals with, as well as causing numerous suffering, the pairing would work with the idea that there is real love between them. Rather than saying his nature changed, it is the idea that there is a slight exception.
Somehow, Dahlia would know Raphael and is even in a relationship with him. Instead of staying with Raphael, however, she insists on travelling with Elena. After the issue of the Bhaalspawn war being resolved, Elena and Sarevok would come to conflict due to the latter deciding to serve Bhaal again. Both sisters would try but fail to stop Sarevok. Elena would be in a comatose state while Dahlia became Sarevok's prisoner, where she endured months of torture before she disappeared.
Dahlia has returned to Raphael, who declared her as his wife in a ceremony with many witnesses. Despite Raphael punishing and even killing the many that insults or even tries to attack her, her unusual position means that she is in great danger from his enemies. As a result, if she is to leave the House of Hope without Raphael, she would always be accompanied by numerous guards.
Since she is never one that yearned for adventure and is happy to stay in a well provided home, she is able to deal with the restrain of her new life rather well. Raphael naturally provides her with whatever luxuries she desires, as well as taking her out with him. In addition, she is able to accept the power disparity in their relationship, where Raphael sees her as much younger and even a bit hopeless. Even though there are times when she disagrees with Raphael's action, she knows when to speak up and when to let go. Dahlia is fully aware of Raphael's evil nature and the various sufferings he would do. She accepts this and admits that she is rather hypocritical by doing this, since her method of dealing with it is to not witness it.
She and Haarlep actually manage to get on rather well due to recognising the state of mutualism they could gain with one another. They are both influential with Raphael in their way; and are both aware that they would not be of a threat to one another, resulting in them being allies.
Additional notes
The interesting thing about this pairing is that if you take away the issue of Raphael being a demon and she is literally living in hell (albeit comfortably), the possible conflict in their relationship is that of one partner being much older and more powerful, and the other has to accept whether they able to be in a more submissive position due to the fact that it would not be possible for them to catch up with the other in term of their power and experience. Also, there is the additional issue of the more powerful partner wanting them to stay home more, due to being worried about the danger.
For Dahlia, she is able to accept this because her personality is already one that is happy to stay at home and she can accept his method of love, which might be a bit smothering at times. In a fan fiction I recently wrote, she would be discussing about this with Isela (Tav) and she would point out that it is different for Isela due to her having known Astarion in a very different way, whereas she always knew Raphael as who he is. In a rather funny way, the story can translated to her telling Isela that she is not saying don't be a housewife, but don't be a housewife without thinking about what it really means.
The illustration
This picture is really more Baldur's Gate 3 rather than 1 or 2, since mortal Dahlia ended up living comfortably, but never lavishly. My initial idea was some type of dramatic ring of fire due to Raphael, but I was not able to get my description right.
Dahlia is a brunette and since she worshiped Azuth, I tend to describe her as wearing blue. Although I don't know if she is still able to be a mage given that she has entered into a union with a demon and tied her life to him. So would she be a warlock? Since she is with Raphael, she is naturally living a very lavish life, which would be why she has numerous jewelleries in her hair, body and dress. The background is what I imagine to be her quarters in the House of Hope, which Raphael decorated with rich furnishing for her.
This drawing is meant to be done in crayon (well, AI crayon style).

My wizard found a spell book on a dead adventurer that didn’t survive a trek up a mountain, however we are in the fearune equivalent of cursed Alaska and there’s no wizard paper… and he’s broke. So hopefully his Harper contact up here can help my city boy get his wizard supply. Thankfully he’s an order of scribes wizard so once he gets his paper it won’t take him much time but he’ll be mildly frustrated about not having these spells.
