Do you love the SCUMM system used for developing games and want to know more about their development? Do you like weird anecdotes about stupid programming jokes?

Then you might be interested in watching my dad’s interviews about his time as a programmer as one of the creators of the SCUMM system and lead programmer at Humongous Entertainment!

My dad is literally so cool you guys, I love him so much and he deserves so much more credit than he receives as one of the people who helped create the SCUMM system, to the point that he was up until recently listed as “And various others” on Wikipedia despite being the only major contributor not named, so I feel I have a duty as the reason he left the industry to be showing off how cool he is to the world.

ScummVM 2.7.0: Call for testing!

Lucasarts Games created a series of timeless classics that are still as enjoyable to play today as they were at launch.

I can easily recall how impressive the playful cartoony Chuck Jones style visuals of Day of the Tentacle looked on my Dad's Compaq Presario 486 SVGA monitor when I first fired it up.

Even today I can't help but watch the damn impressive intro sequence in full if I let myself watch more than 10 seconds of it.

For some reason in my mind I find it hard to imagine that any of those SCUMM classics could ever be played away from the PC. They just seem like artifacts tied to the 90's age of beige computing.

I happened to be relaxing at a cafe recently and found my old DSi was in my bag. It wasn't long before I discovered that I'd previously installed ScummVM with Day of the Tentacle on it and was immediately sucked into the experience and smiling to myself at the great dialogue and humour of it.

The resistive screen and stylus interface works perfectly for the originally designed mouse input. The only real issue is that the bottom of the screen is slightly cut off, making it tricker to select from the bottom row of commands.

Thank you my old DSi for breathing life into even older SCUMM games!

It's been a long time coming, but I've finally bought the full collection of Humongous Entertainment's adventures and arcade titles. As a kid I only got the chance to play 12 of the 35 titles (36 if you count the ill-fated Moonbase Commander) that have been given new life on Steam.

Thanks to the folks at ScummVM for helping revive these classics! If you never got the chance to play these before (or know a little one who would love these) they're all available for $40 USD ($55 CAD) with the Steam Autumn Sale.

Back in January, I observed there was Something Funny going on with windows overlapping or getting too close to views in SCI games.

I ended that post saying ScummVM does what it wants, showing the same "enter input" box overlapping Larry as in the DOS SCI screenshots. Quite clearly showing no weird clipping going on there.

While grabbing screenshots for my previous post, I noticed ScummVM does in fact do the thing. Just not quite like DOS SCI did.

If you have windows you should be able to play kid pix 3 for free

it's strange, long ago i use to be able to run it fine on a laptop i use to have, but every attempt on my current laptop keeps failing.

this laptop im on is still using Windows 7, and the issue im running into is that my laptop is 64-bit instead of 32 or 16, and it won't progress after it gives me an error.
