The Sacramento area (I live in Davis) doesn't have a ton of live music options. You'd think with two large universities - UC Davis and Sacramento State - the area would be a magnet for touring bands.
One of the best spots is Harlow's in Sacramento's midtown (it's very close to the famed Sutter's Fort). Today I learned that The Lemon Twigs and Uni Boys will be playing on December 13th. So, in honor of that, let's post Uni Boy's debut album "Buy This Now!" available for pre-order on Curation Records (both the band and the label are from Los Angeles). The Lemon Twig Brothers (Brian and Michael D'Addario) produced the record.
This album appears to continue their great run of power pop - great harmonies and songwriting hooks that go all the way up. Queue any number of power pop references - from Gentleman Jesse to Big Star. But, this also reminds me of Neil Brogan's great work as Sea Pinks.

CLOGHER THRIFT
Here is one of many photos I’ve taken of Clogher Beach. This is a summery view – the water is calm and the sea thrift or sea pinks are growing on the left of the picture. Previous photos I’ve posted of this area were taken in different kinds of weather conditions, including some very wild weather. How different it can be!
It really doesn’t seem so long since I posted photos of this walk with the…

There are a lot of upcoming releases from bands that are near and dear to my ears. We'll see if they all get their own post over the course of the next few weeks.
First up, "Chlorine Gardens" will be released at the end of June by Neil Brogan (Sea Pinks, Girls Names). Brogan, from Belfast, Northern Ireland, has been steadily making and releasing music under his own name for the past couple of years. "Chlorine Gardens" is the most sounding Sea Pinks song I've yet heard from him.
The guitars and vocals have a bit more reverb and the mixing is still different from Sea Pinks, but this is just as bouncy, upbeat and enormously catchy as any Sea Pinks song.
