A Documentary about how Hustle Culture, Workaholism, Toxic Productivity, Self Improvement, and Self-Help gurus like Gary Vaynerchuk function as a form of Social Control, which the Philosopher Byung-Chul Han calls Psychopolitics. Psychopolitics is a form of smart power that governs our Neoliberal Society of Control. Hustle Culture and Positive Psychology (Toxic Positivity) are just some of its many manifestations. It is leading to burnout, depression, and anxiety.

You know, it's rather interesting to me that Taylor Swift's parasocial relationship with her fans is honestly more akin to a YouTuber than a writer's. When I scroll through her tag on tumblr/Twitter, it's far more regarding the connection to her personal life/relationship developments than the actual metaphors/fictional story she might be telling. Everything comes back to how her songs reflect back on her relationships with Joe/Matty/Travis/Jake/insert ex-boyfriend here. And what fascinates me about it is that even though she complains about it, she leans into that very perception because it strengthens the parasocial bond.
The marketing for TTPD so clearly being about Joe Alwyn and the songs to Matty Healy. The marketing/video for Red TV so CLEARLY being about Jake Gyllenhaal, with so many of the new lines in All Too Well specifically being digs at him (I'll get older but your lovers stay my age, casting an actor that looks like him for the video, specific lines in I Bet You Think About Me). The fact that songs like Getaway Car and Bejeweled and Gorgeous and London Boy and Lavender Haze being picked apart at time of release and long after for signs of relationships crumbling. The way she uses surprise songs in relation to her relationship development with Joe/Matty/Travis. The damn TTPD "stages of grief" playlists where she deliberately undid/changed the meanings of old songs just to keep her audience speculating on her love life.
It's not sexist to point out that her wielding her love life is a marketing tool and that the strongest connection to her audience isn't the strength of her writing/the composition of her music- it's her deliberate crafting of a connection between her music and her personal life, leaving the audience invested in her music as an extension of Taylor the Person/Girlfriend rather than Taylor the Artist.
#taylor swift#anti taylor swift#to an extent#i honestly just view this as an analysis of her marketing strategy#like hates off to her for being the best possible microcosm of parasocial capitalism#girlie really knew how to harness the teen girl market and good for her billionaire self#she knows how to exploit the very tabloid culture that once strangled her#how to become the tabloid itself#and wield that against ex-boyfriends too but you didn’t hear that from me#joe alwyn#matty healy#travis kelce#taylor swift critical#ttpd#red tv#i bet you think about me#getaway car#bejeweled#gorgeous#london boy#lavender haze

Shen Yuan's life would have actually been far more difficult if he was the only transmigrator. Instead of airplane, he would have been dealing with an active and malicious spy who would not have hesitated to take advantage of him and his situation.
Either he believes the entire amnesia story or picks up that SY is an imposter. Maybe even both. He believes the amnesia first but then realizes something more is going on when he tries to take advantage of the so-called "amnesia."
Whatever the case, Shen Yuan's life would have gone from easy mode to medium or even outright hard.

i keep returning to the thought of being jing yuan’s deeply human—and thus flawed—beloved. while fickle in nature, you are wholeheartedly devoted to the luofu’s general, and have no qualms about your attachment in spite of the disparity in your lifespans.
the primary cause for strife within the relationship (in your mind, anyway) is you—specifically, your jealousy of those who warmed jing yuan’s bed during the long centuries before you even existed. any time you think about this, you jaw sets, and your eyes grow stormy.
but your anguish doesn’t upset the man in question; in all honesty, he indulges your hot-headed, possessive behavior. you’re spoiled beyond reproach—this much you can’t deny—and yet you are incapable of quelling the urge to turn up your nose and become moody when certain topics arise.
down to the second, jing yuan can predict when you will demand to sit on his lap and claw at his chest like a petulant kitten. perhaps—if you weren’t single-mindedly driven by blazing ardor and pride—you would cringe at how easily you fall into his trap. but it’s camouflaged with honeyed words and silken pleasure, and you can’t help but yield to his antics, weeping mine mine mine into his mouth, carving crimson ribbons down his back.
despite his military training, jing yuan isn’t cruel; he could never be callous to you, his heart. but he loves the mortal flame that burns so passionately inside you. thanks to you—and for the first time in centuries—he remembers what it feels like to be alive.
#a little drabble that’s self-indulgent as fuck#i said ‘jing yuan’ last night and had this on the dome but hadn’t put it into words yet#i think he is capable of brat taming but. i see him as quite indulgent and smitten with your wiles#and—the scoundrel he is—he isn’t above exploiting said wiles…#— musings#— jing yuan#— honkai star rail#jing yuan x reader

Okay. Since we're going over all the takes on Mr. X at this point.. What if his powers really don't have a backside. What if (the state of) his normal life is the backside.
What if his normal life is akin to that of heroes where he has to pretend to be something he's not and follow rules that the people who control his life came up with to further their own goals. What if he can only be free of other people's beliefs and expectations when he's a hero.
What if in reality he truly is like everyone else. The other heroes. The ordinary people. All those who work themselves to the bone, who are tired and overworked and sick of all the exploitation...
What if when he's in the form of the number one hero.. when he becomes the most sought after product on the hero market..
Is when he gains the freedom to truly be himself
#to be hero x#tbhx#hero x#considering one of the first things they revealed to us in the trailers was that he's a white-collar worker...#we definitely need to think about that if we wanna try to predict / guess what he's actually like#this thing feels very lin ling coded but lin ling is tbhx coded (introduction to the main themes of the show)#so I feel like my best prediction rn is that he's actually the other side of the same damn coin#(cue the coin flip clip from the opening *coughs*)#I think from a writing perspective the whole downside thing is based on a characters perception#so if the writers make us think that X is an omnipresent all powerful god#then it just makes sense to reverse it by revealing that the opposite is equally as true#and then he'd have an even stronger incentive to want to break the system cuz both of his lives would've been defined by exploitation#maybe not the bright side of X (at least not after he became No. 1) but I don't think being the best product makes him no longer a product#ACTUALLY#“bright side” was supposed to refer to his hero identity bc of the black & white switch he has going on but#yeah calling his normal self the “dark side of X” would definitely reinforce the idea that it's the not so good parts he hides#and we've not much of normal X yet (other than his sugar stealing. you go boy exploit the company back for sugar. I believe in you) but!#we all know there's darker times coming. right.#I don't think they're gonna reveal his normal life to have a sad backstory or Idk (there's gonna be enough of that elsewhere anyways haha)#but we've definitely only seen the top of the iceberg for now#btw yes I do think capitalism & the CEOs are gonna be the real villains#and X is probably playing their game to win#yes all along you were reading my “X is actually anti-capitalist” propaganda#we're gonna go free heroes (at a cost) :))#ice demon talks#tbhx theories#tbhx analysis

as a big proponent of Making Your Own Webbed Site For Your Webbed Comic myself, it bothers me how, every time naver webtoon gets caught mistreating specifically its contracted artists, that news gets used as a jumping off point to promote self hosting/reading self hosted comics... it feels like a self-interested distraction from the actual issue of "this company is screwing over people it has contracts with"
#as much as i love having my own website for my comic it is not A Job Paying Me Money#and responses like this to contracted artists being exploited#feel like saying 'just quit your job and strike out on your own!' to people who are frequently not in a position to do that#this isnt an issue that can be solved by just telling everyone to get their own website yknow?#maybe i dont have the solution either but distracting from the issue to self promote wont help

it's quite offputting to me when ppl can't disentangle their hatred for capitalism from a hatred for... new technological innovation? the ways in which capitalism has shaped the development of certain technologies has been deeply negative, not to mention that imperialism ensures that new technology is usually produced via extractive relationships with both the planet + ppl in the global south.
but this weird tying of capitalist impact on innovation (+the idea of what is/is not innovation) to hatred of innovation itself (or even more disturbing valorization of "the good old days"/implications that technology is causing social degeneracy) is baffling to me. perhaps it is impossible to achieve specific technologies without unconscionable resource extraction practices, in which case they should not be pursued. but so many ppl act like there is something inherently morally suspect in pursuit of tech such as autonomous vehicles or AI or automation, independent of the material conditions that produced them/that they may produce.
tesla is evil because they exploit ppl for profit + participate in an economy built on the exploitation of the global south + use 'innovation' as a marketing tool to mask serious safety concerns. they're not evil bcuz they want to make vehicles that move on their own. there are actually a great deal of fantastic applications for vehicles which move on their own? equating technology with moral decay is not a radical position; you need a material analysis of why technological innovation has become characterized by harmful practices.
#just saw a truly tragic article abt a death related to self driving car#entire comments section SWAMPED with the implication that any attempts to create self driving cars is INHERENTLY EVIL#like. actually fully automated public transportation would be dead fucking useful#public transit is not currently fully automated + is extremely limited in many cities#im so tired of ppl who need the technology to also be BAD to call out the practices which produced it#things do not need to be black/white for u to understand that exploiting others is morally wrong...

trying to play morality police in the trigun fandom is so funny, like how are you a fan of the "incestual sexual assault trauma" show and then be outraged to see incestual fanart. my preference is not them either but cmon guys the call is coming from inside the house
#disgust is not morality + what someone finds compelling in fiction does not equal their irl preferences#think about it: we do not assume everyone who plays shooter games will go out killing people (thats the narrative i grew up with and it was#ridiculous even then)#or should everybody who plays horror games be shamed for wanting to kill and maim and etc? should we go to markiplier and be like#“heeeyy so i think you liked fnaf SUSPICIOUSLY lot. care to explain yourself? 🤨 do you want kids to be killed and turned into machines.”#anyway back to trigun. disgust and outrage was (i think) the intended response to All That but you gotta let people play around with#the concept and dynamic. you do not have to understand it and you can continue to dislike it as well#(i certainly do bc i dont feel like it would make narrative sense)#but you cant play judge and jury on someone's entire self based on what they like to imagine#bc guess what. its that same disgust and anger response that is being exploited by right wingers in high power to make ppl support#discrimintory policies#(please believe me on this im hungarian)#anyway. this got too long. love and peace my final message#trigun#trigun stampede

kiryuu sibling stasis post-32 is so interesting to me. nanami tries to leave and is (temporarily but also, crucially, violently) prevented from doing so by touga and akio. after this experience she puts distance between herself and them: she leaves touga’s phone in the car, she resigns from the student council (though she dons her old uniform still), she repeatedly dismisses and undermines the authority of the rose code, of end of the world, of akio, of touga. but she’s still in ohtori, isn’t she? uncomfortable with the idea of leaving, uncertain if it’s really possible. she tried before, and it hurt her. deeply. it’s so interesting to me, nanami’s agency and how she limits her exertion of it after 32, when she realises it for what it is. contrast that with touga, who accepts this weird stalemate between them, who is, really, uninterested in having any relationship of any kind with nanami if he can’t gain something from her. he’s very passive with her after 32, compared to the passivity he’d always feigned towards her before in order to stoke reactions from her and then exploit them. i was thinking about how touga has always been able to sever his relationship with nanami, but chosen not to; first out of a sense of obligation (‘we should live to help each other’) then a realisation of how that could be exploited. i was thinking about how nanami has never realised her ability to leave, in part because it is limited by touga and the harm he does her. i was thinking about the desperation and confusion akio calls out to anthy with as she leaves. i was thinking about how different that is to the kiryuus’ strange semi-breakdown; touga doesn’t want or need nanami, and nanami might love her brother but she cannot trust him or feel safe around him, doesn’t want to see him anymore; she’s itching to leave, and just a little scared (you know, because last time she tried that her brother assaulted her), and he’s not doing anything because ignoring her means he doesn’t have to deal with the emotions of her leaving or staying. something something gendered power dynamics something something tragic siblings
#local kiryuu sibling enjoyer has thoughts about them#i wrote this like three days ago but it’s getting posted now i have to speak my truth#touga loves a bit of inaction#nanami doesn’t but what the fuck else is she gonna do?? be brave? she tried that already#and she WILL try it again and i don’t think touga will try particularly hard to stop her#i think he might try a little but in doing so he’ll just become more aware of how much he doesn’t want to do that#and is only doing it bc of a vague sense of obligation to a perspective on life that he’s already questioned a la utena#im just. i have so many feelings about them. i bet none of you were aware of that fact already#i am once again wondering: does touga love nanami? what does that mean for each of them?#and im concluding: i really don’t think he does#i think he’s felt obligation to her and turned bitter towards that emotion and her in turn#i think he has no idea how to feel about her so he ignores the problem and exploits HER feelings as he thinks he understands them#until he realises that he doesn’t and has to deal (a little bit) with the ramifications of that#touga and anthy when nanami makes them self reflect. or swagever. the 32 way. neither of them would ever admit this but it’s true#dais.txt#her tragedy her triumph

The Kindness of Black People: Generosity, Exploitation, and the Need for Genuine Appreciation
A Garveyite Perspective on How Black Benevolence Is Exploited and the Need for Self-Preservation
One of the defining characteristics of Black people across the world is kindness, generosity, and an unwavering spirit of hospitality. Whether in Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, or North America, Black people have historically been welcoming, open-hearted, and willing to share their resources, time, and culture with others. However, this kindness has often been exploited, taken for granted, and used as a tool to weaken Black self-sufficiency and collective power.
From a Garveyite perspective, Black generosity should not come at the expense of Black self-preservation, sovereignty, and self-determination. This analysis will explore:
The historical roots of Black kindness and communal values.
How Black generosity has been exploited by outsiders, both historically and in modern times.
Why Black people must balance kindness with self-interest and collective upliftment.
The importance of genuine appreciation and reciprocation, rather than blind giving.
1. The Historical Roots of Black Kindness and Communal Values
Before colonialism and the transatlantic slave trade, Black societies across Africa and the diaspora were deeply rooted in communal living, shared resources, and hospitality. Unlike the Western capitalist mindset that emphasizes individual wealth accumulation, African and Indigenous Black communities embraced Ubuntu—a philosophy, which means “I am because we are.”
Examples of Traditional Black Generosity:
African Communalism: In traditional African societies, land was shared, food was distributed collectively, and families took care of one another’s children.
The Maroons and Runaway Slave Communities: Enslaved Africans who escaped would form free Black societies and take in other escapees, offering protection and food.
Black American Hospitality: Despite oppression, Black Americans have historically welcomed others into their communities, offering food, shelter, and mentorship.
Caribbean & Latin American Generosity: Many Afro-Caribbean and Afro-Latin cultures are famous for their open-door policy—welcoming guests as family.
The Problem? Black kindness has been systematically exploited by colonial powers, outsiders, and even members of our own race who prioritize personal gain over collective progress.
2. How Black Generosity Has Been Exploited by Outsiders
Black people's openness has often been met with betrayal and exploitation—both historically and in modern times. When a people are known for their generosity but lack economic and political control, they become easy targets for manipulation.
Historical Examples of Exploitation:
Colonial Deception: European colonizers were welcomed into African societies as “guests,” only to betray, enslave, and exploit the same people who helped them.
The Transatlantic Slave Trade: African rulers and traders, in their spirit of commerce and openness, initially engaged in trade with Europeans—only to later realize that they were being manipulated into selling their own people into an inescapable system of oppression.
Cultural Appropriation: Black music, art, and spiritual traditions have been generously shared with the world, but they are often stolen, repackaged, and sold without benefiting Black creators.
Economic Extraction: Black nations are among the richest in natural resources but remain the poorest because outsiders exploit their generosity and lack of collective control.
Modern Examples of Exploitation:
Immigrant Communities Profiting Off Black money: Many non-Black groups set up businesses in Black neighbourhoods (beauty supply stores, corner shops, restaurants) but do not reinvest into the Black community.
Black Women’s Emotional Labour: Black women are often expected to be caretakers, nurturers, and emotional support systems, but when they need support, the same people they help often turn away.
Black Political Advocacy for Others: Black people have fought for civil rights, justice, and equity, but other racial and social groups who benefit from Black activism rarely reciprocate that solidarity when Black people are in need.
The Result? Black people give, but rarely receive the same kindness and support in return.
3. Why Black People Must Balance Kindness with Self-Preservation
While generosity is a beautiful trait, it must be strategic. Marcus Garvey warned against blindly giving without ensuring that Black people benefit from their labor, wealth, and cultural production.
Key Lessons from Garveyism:
Put Black People First: Black people must prioritize building their own economic and political power before extending help to others.
Stop Giving Away Resources for Free: Black artists, thinkers, and entrepreneurs should ensure that their work benefits their own community before outsiders profit from it.
Create Reciprocity, Not Dependency: If Black communities support businesses, organizations, or individuals, those entities must give back to the community—or they should not be supported.
Be Selective with Kindness: Not everyone who benefits from Black generosity respects Black people. If outsiders refuse to support Black liberation, they should not be given access to Black resources.
If Black people do not balance generosity with self-preservation, they will continue being exploited.
4. The Importance of Genuine Appreciation vs. Selective Exploitation
Black people must demand genuine appreciation, not just symbolic praise or temporary alliances. Many groups praise Black culture but refuse to support Black economic independence or social justice.
Fake Appreciation vs. Real Support:
Music & Art: Many non-Black people celebrate Black culture (Hip-Hop, Reggae, Afrobeat) but do not support Black communities financially or politically.
Black Women’s Labour: Many corporations use Black women’s activism, aesthetics, and leadership but do not offer equal opportunities, pay, or protection.
Black Movements & Political Power: Many groups use Black movements as a blueprint (feminism, LGBTQ rights, immigration advocacy) but do not fight for Black issues.
Genuine Appreciation Requires:
Economic Investment – If people love Black culture, they must invest in Black businesses and industries.
Political Support – If people benefit from Black activism, they must show up for Black political causes.
Mutual Respect – Black people should stop supporting those who do not support them.
5. Conclusion: Black Generosity Must Serve Black Empowerment
The kindness of Black people is a gift and a strength, but when it is not paired with self-interest and economic control, it becomes a tool for exploitation.
Black generosity must be tied to collective advancement.
Black people must stop giving their labour, culture, and resources to those who do not reciprocate.
Support must be conditional—those who do not respect Black people should not benefit from Black kindness.
Final Garveyite Takeaway: Garveyism teaches that love for others must never come before love for self. If Black people want true liberation, they must learn to say NO to exploitation and YES to their own self-determination.
