Hm..im kinda shy about asking this, because maybe it's just an english language thing that i don't get (it's not my first language lol) but ive always wondered what the difference between "prefect" and "housewarden" was,, like, wouldn't the mc/yuu technically also be a housewarden, since they're the only one running ramshackle? aaa sorry if it's a bit of a silly question lol, but i just don't understand the difference,,, thank you, and i love your work very much!! 🩷🩷
Tumblr media
So to clarify, Yuu is called 監督生 (“kantoku-sei/kantoukusei”), which roughly translates into “prefect”. Dorm leaders (or housewardens, as they are called in EN) are called 寮長 (“ryōchō”), which refers to “dormitory managers/leaders/superintendents”. The two positions are treated very differently in-game (and generally, prefect is NOT the same as a dorm leader), but it may be different in real life depending on the institution you’re looking at for comparison.
As I've mentioned in this post, I see dorm leaders as NRC's version of RAs (resident advisors/assistants). They’re students who work with school administration to oversee and to conduct activities for their respective dorm buildings/residence halls […] Similarly, the dorm leaders in TWST have certain responsibilities but are also granted power within their own dorm as well as certain privileges which extend beyond that. Common duties of a RA (I'll list some examples from TWST) include, but are not limited to:
Organizing and overseeing student educational programs and dorm activities (Riddle helps his students study to avoid failing, including Cater in Riddle's Dorm Uniform vignettes; he states that not a single Heartslabyul student has dropped out since he has become dorm leader. Various activities are orchestrated by dorm leaders, such as unbirthday parties, renting out their dorm for events, throwing banquets, etc.)
Planning accommodations for students and conducting new student orientations (dorm leaders canonically assign rooms to their dorm members, the prologue shows the dorm leaders escorting newly sorted freshmen to their dorms and showing them around, etc.)
Cleaning up and conducting monthly facility inspections (under the instruction of the dorm leader, members help with setting up and cleaning after events)
Enforcing rules and regulations, reporting incidents and recommending or enacting disciplinary actions as needed, and resolving conflicts between students in the dorm (most obviously seen with Riddle collaring students in the main story, but we've also seen other instances like Leona and Idia dealing with unruly mob students from their own dorms, each in their respective Dorm Uniform vignettes)
Acting as a liaison or representative between the school and students, or between the school and the community (Vil and Riddle especially stress the importance of their dorm members keeping in line, as it reflects poorly on them as the leaders if their students do not behave)
As you can see, many of the duties of a RA are carried out by TWST's dorm leaders. It is these responsibilities that define what a "dorm leader" is. A prefect is described by the Oxford Dictionary as “a senior student authorized to enforce discipline”. The definition implies that a prefect has fewer responsibilities and power than a RA (ie a dorm leader). We see this lack of responsibilities and power reflected in Yuu (who, again, is often called "prefect" in characters' voiced lines place of their name). For example, Yuu is NOT present in dorm leader meetings and does not participate in planning committees for events such as the cultural festival of book 5 or the interdorm tournament of book 2.
It is likely that Yuu is not acknowledged in the same capacity as a dorm leader for various reasons:
Yuu is not a full student (Grim is their "other half) and lacks magical capabilities at a school that is known for training mages. They are also not from Twisted Wonderland. Therefore, they are not a good "representative" of NRC.
Ramshackle is no longer considered a dormitory since it has fallen into disrepair; even if it was still considered a dormitory, Yuu has no students to watch over since the Ramshackle Ghosts are not students and Grim only counts as half of a student.
Since Ramshackle is not a dorm anymore, it likely does not receive funding for dorm-wide activities, maintenance, etc. Yuu has very few resources to do anything.
Yuu does not command any real authority through their title alone (which largely has to do with their status as a non-mage + otherworldliness and the “illegitimate” nature of their dorm); even the main cast has to be shown their merits through actions before Yuu earns a modicum of their respect.
If we put it like that, Yuu's only formal prefect responsibilities are to basically to keep Grim out of trouble and do whatever odd jobs Crowley saddles them with. I guess you can also say that Yuu "enforces discipline" on the NRC students when they get out of hand, but this depends on your interpretation of what Yuu does in the main story. In my opinion, Yuu does very little to actually "enforce discipline" and often relies on other students to do the heavy lifting for them; Yuu is just the one initially sniffing out the root of the problems.
It should also be noted that while the formal definition of "prefect" refers to a "senior" student, Yuu is considered a first-year student along with Grim. Seniority does not play a role here. (Although please keep in mind that being a "first year" does not necessarily mean Yuu is 16 by default; there are exceptions to the age = grade thing.)
In summary, dorm leaders are presented in TWST as generally "higher up" on the food chain compared to a prefect. They have more powers and tasks to carry out; the prefect, by comparison, does not.

Notes on the Bylaws of the Aguefort Adventuring Academy
We've had some revelations in this episode, so I thought it might be a good time to go back to my Musings on the Greater Solisian School District.
Before this season, we had learned a few things about the Aguefort Adventuring Academy's Bylaws from Fantasy High, Fantasy High: Sophomore Year and the Seven that are ambiguously canon:
Adventuring Parties are established on the first day of freshman year so that the party can graduate together and begin working as an adventuring party. The party is expected to participate in activities together such that they might go forth and be violent lunatics enforcing their will upon the world.
There are a variety of reasons one might leave an adventuring party--the one that applied to the members of the Seven was severe injury, incapacitation, or capture to the point of losing more than a semester of school. By technicality, the Bad Kids circumvent this by virtue of going to jail as a group for ~2 months towards the end of their freshman year--not enough to cause them to repeat the semester or break the party.
The Crowning of a Prom King & Queen was prohibited due to the prophesized return of Kalvaxus, Emperor of the Red Waste, given that Kalvaxus was in fact working as the Vice Principal in the form of a dragonborn named Goldenhoard.
Arthur Aguefort keeps numerous magical artifacts in his office and in various locations around the school, this includes objects like Watches and Wards, an abjurative ward that can only be affected by Arthur Aguefort and the Elven Oracle [Adaine Abernant], the Crown of the Nightmare King, and the Bylaws of the Greater Solisian School District.
Presumably, beginning in sophomore year, an adventuring party attending the Aguefort Adventuring Academy must complete a quest that accounts for 60% of their grade for that year. It is unclear whether this rule is universal or whether it applies to specific parties who have direct involvement in larger quests, i.e. the Bad Kids tracking down the Crown of the Nightmare King, the Seven Maidens going to the Red Waste to eliminate the remainder of the Cult of Kalvaxus. This ties into a later application of the bylaws regarding the Last Stand Exam.
Parties can have members in different grades, however, graduation and further work can cause the disbandment of the party.
To acquire a GED diploma from the Solisian School District, an adventurer/adventuring party must get the signature of the Superintendent of Schools of the Solisian School District and complete a class A, B, or C quest [reference my previous meta for more discussion of this]
Now, at the halfway mark of Junior Year, we have some more bylaws and school rules to consider.
Administrative
In the absence of the Principal of the Aguefort Adventuring Academy [Arthur Aguefort] the Vice Principal [Gilear Faeth] is the Acting Principal of the school and carries out all administrative decisions thereof.
In the absence of both the Principal [Arthur Aguefort] and the Vice Principal [Gilear Faeth], administration of the School falls to the Principal's appointed emergency staff: Principal [Interim Emergency Backup Principal Grix] and Vice Principal [Jace Stardiamond]
The bylaws of the Aguefort Adventuring Academy in particular are based on a combination of written and oral proclamations from Arthur Aguefort; thus some bylaws may be contradictory in their application, given the man's proclivity for bits and exaggerated speech.
The election of a student body president typically occurs around the end of a given school year, with students in their junior year competing to be president in their senior year. There is no indicated option for a vice presidential position, though there are other administrative positions such as treasurer.
Thus, when all options for administrative staff have been exhausted e.g. all appointed candidates have passed or are absent, the role of principal falls to the student body president, who presides over the Academy as a democratically-run educational institution.
Academic
Generally, students are expected to progress in the class in which they first joined the Adventuring Academy. While leveling can differ based on extracurricular achievement as well as background, the existing hypothesis places students in tier 2-3 starting in Junior Year*. Currently the Bad Kids are exceeding the hypothesized levels, but given their extracurricular achievements in adventuring, this is to be expected.
To Multi-class and effectively take both classes in which the student has interest, they are able to utilize the MCAT, upon given the consent of the class instructors for both courses. Reference previous meta for more information on the MCAT.
Measures of success in each class varies significantly; a wizard is not graded on the same curve as a sorcerer. One of the more extreme examples of this is the conditional pass of the rogue class; upon finding the rogue teacher, the student passes the year and no longer has to attend class.
Pass-Fail and Conditional Examinations
If a member of an adventuring party leaves for any given reason: irreconcilable differences, severe injury/incapacitation, capture or other forms of imprisonment, death, etc., the entire party is shifted to pass-fail for the entire year, and is thus prohibited from extracurricular activities.
If the faculty member/instructor of a particular class passes away during the school year, the entire class is shifted into pass-fail. This can have further effects on the adventuring parties of those students, since they are shifted into pass-fail along with their allies in the given class. The most recent example of this is the death of Yolanda Badgood and the shift of the Cleric class to pass-fail.
If a student, for whatever reason, has had difficulty throughout the year with academic success, especially due to systemic barriers, they may be eligible for a exam called the Last Stand, which is taken later in the year, and replaces the student's transcript. This exam can be taken as a party, or individually, depending on the students' needs.
*Tier 1 = Levels 1-5, Tier 2 = Levels 6-10, Tier 3 = Levels 11-15, Tier 4 = Levels 16-20

Who spread suicide claim? Kolkata doctor’s colleagues say story originated in ex-principal’s office
The article:
KOLKATA: Colleagues of the 31-year-old postgraduate resident doctor whose body was found in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on Aug 9 alleged that the hospital authorities’ initial claim that she died by suicide originated in then principal Sandip Ghosh’s office.
They questioned why the hospital authorities misled them when the death was a clear case of rape and murder. Supreme Court also raised concerns Tuesday about the hospital’s suicide narrative.
Hospital insiders disclosed that the decision to initially classify the death as a suicide was made in the office of Ghosh, who was later removed from his position following widespread protests and accusations of a cover-up.
According to the victim’s parents, they received two calls on the morning of Aug 9.
The first call at 10.53am from the hospital’s assistant superintendent Dwaipayan Biswas informed them that their daughter had fallen ill. Shortly afterward, a second call informed them that she had died by suicide. This news came as a shock to the family and colleagues, as signs of abuse and murder were reportedly evident on the doctor’s body.
The colleagues expressed outrage over the handling of the case, particularly the misleading information given to her parents. “Tell-all signs of sexual abuse and murder were all over her body. Why were the parents misled?” asked one of her fellow postgraduate trainees. Assistant superintendent Biswas had not acted on his own, another colleague said, alleging that “there was a plan to pass this off as a suicide”.
Colleagues also questioned the two-hour delay between the discovery of the body around 9am and when the parents were informed.
Ghosh had reportedly convened a meeting in the same seminar hall where the body was found, with at least two outsiders and several senior hospital officials. This meeting took place before the inspector in-charge of RG Kar hospital outpost was informed around 10.10am.
While Calcutta HC directed Ghosh to go on long leave, other hospital officials, including then medical superintendent Sanjay Bashist and the respiratory medicine department head Arunabha Dutta Chowdhury, have been transferred. “We are for a neutral probe and we also want the truth to emerge,” Bashist had said before he was transferred to CNMC.
(Poster's note: This article was posted on Aug 21, 2024. There have been significant developments in this case since then which I will try to post about as soon as possible. But I thought this was an important piece of information about what has been going on and all signs point to a significant coverup that indian public has been speculating since some of the other testimonies from the victim's colleagues.)

Health experts warn against COVID complacency in schools amid surge - Published Aug 25, 2024
Health experts are urging school staff and families to take active steps to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 amid rising infections as school districts stick to their previous plans to combat the virus similarly to how they would the flu or strep throat.
Weekly deaths from COVID-19 have steadily risen in the United States since mid-June, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID Data Tracker.
And wastewater viral activity for the disease — which is monitored as a means of detecting where a potential outbreak may occur — has gradually climbed since May, with the national level now “very high,” according to the CDC.
The rising rates are having little effect on the start of the school year, however. Schools have largely chosen to treat COVID-19 like RSV or the common flu, at the recommendation of health organizations like the CDC.
“COVID forever changed the landscape of education. As it stands now, in both districts (Meridian CUSD 223 and Oregon CUSD 220) I have the pleasure of leading we are moving forward full steam ahead and treating COVID in the same form and fashion we would treat influenza or strep throat,” said PJ Caposey, superintendent of Meridian School District in Illinois.
“The impact COVID has had on schools and on society cannot be understated, but currently it is not impacting how we operate and serve kids,” he added.
School districts are still feeling tremendous impacts from the coronavirus and the widespread closures it drove earlier in the pandemic, such as students struggling to catch back up academically.
Recent data from nonprofit research group NWEA found that students going into high school are a full year behind academically.
Since the CDC has classified COVID-19 under the umbrella of respiratory illnesses, in the same category as the flu, schools have dropped precautions previously put in place to mitigate the spread of the virus such as masks or social distancing.
Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), for instance, previously had policies requiring students and faculty to stay out of school longer if they contract COVID-19 and to wear masks for a certain period when they came back.
LAUSD posted on social media in August that due to high vaccination rates, COVID-19 will be treated like RSV. The district stressed that those with COVID-19 need to stay home if they have symptoms or a fever and cannot come back until symptoms start improving and the fever is gone for 24 hours without medicine.
Amid the current rise in COVID-19 cases and with another likely surge looming during the fall or winter months ahead, health experts are urging school communities not to become complacent when fighting against the virus’s spread.
The most important thing families and school staff can do to protect themselves is to get vaccinated, according to Jodie Guest, senior vice chair of epidemiology at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health.
As of May, only about a quarter of U.S. adults and about 14 percent of children were reported to be up to date on a COVID-19 vaccination, according to CDC data.
The Food and Drug Administration approved updated Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines Thursday to more closely target the recent strains of the virus, as well as potential fall and winter variants.
Adults and children 6 months and older are eligible for the updated vaccines, according to the CDC. Children 5 years old and up will need one shot of an updated vaccine to remain current, while children between 6 months and 4 years old might need multiple shots.
The updated shots will likely be on pharmacy shelves within “the coming days.” Those who have recently been infected with COVID-19 can delay getting the updated vaccine for up to three months, per CDC guidelines.
On top of getting the shot, Guest encourages school staff and parents to regularly test themselves and children for COVID-19 infections because testing “still really matters.”
“If your kid comes home and is not feeling well and showing signs that might be COVID, might be something else, going ahead with at-home testing is an important way to stop spread in your family and to stop spread in schools,” she said.
Sick adults and children should test themselves multiple times at home to ensure they do not have the virus, Guest said. If a first at-home antigen test is negative, she recommends taking a second test 36 to 48 hours later “to make sure it’s a true negative.”
School staff members who think they are sick should stay home, health experts agree. Parents should also keep their children home from school if they are sick to reduce the chance of spreading COVID-19 to others.
“If you are sick, stay home. Don’t infect others,” said David Weber, epidemiologist and associate chief medical officer of UNC Health Care.
While COVID-19 infections are typically less severe in children, kids can still suffer complications from contracting the virus, like long COVID, which may appear differently in adolescents than in adults.
Children can also serve as vectors for the virus, potentially spreading it to more vulnerable people like older relatives.
“You really don’t want to bring this home particularly if you have grandparents living with you,” said Andrew Pekosz, a professor at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health who studies respiratory illnesses including COVID-19.
However, it appears unlikely that schools will change their standards to fight COVID-19 without official recommendations from the CDC.
“Schools put measures in place through the COVID-19 pandemic to mitigate the spread of infection including vaccination clinics, cleaning procedures, and mitigation protocols that should be followed just as with any other communicable diseases such as the seasonal flu,” said Jeanie Alter, executive director of the American School Health Association, a group that supports health professionals in schools and advocates for healthy school environments.
“It will be important for schools to review and update these practices and continue with best practice guidance from reputable science-based organizations such as CDC,” she said.

"Britain’s largest gathering of counter-terrorism experts assembled in London last month to discuss what one police chief called 'legal but harmful protest' following Israel’s war on Gaza. Inside a cavernous Docklands conference hall, companies at the Counter Terror Expo displayed gas mask-clad dummies and crowd control systems as enthusiastic AI reps promised revolutionary advances in surveillance. Tools for hacking phones with 'brute force,' monitoring someone’s emotional state based on their social media and rapidly digesting the contents of an 'acquired' computer were all up for sale. Among the potential customers were foreign police departments, including officers fresh from Georgia’s violent crackdown on anti-Russia protests.
Several salespeople declined to explain their products to the media. 'I can’t believe they let you people in here,' one rep told Declassified after seeing our press card. 'I think it’s disgusting.' Her company markets AI tools for military and law enforcement to process recordings of people’s voices.
When delegates weren’t browsing spyware or sipping craft beer with a £12 'world food' meal deal, they could listen to the security industry’s leading lights. These included detective chief superintendent Maria Lovegrove who runs Britain’s Prevent strategy against radicalisation. She trumpeted 53 arrests for terrorism offences since October 7. Only one of these was for violence. The rest concerned social media posts or attending gatherings. Asked whether this data suggests police are overreacting to peaceful pro-Palestine protests, Lovegrove valorised an 'early intervention' approach. She told Declassified this was the 'greatest tool in preventing terror attacks' and insisted officers 'only arrest and prosecute when we have to.' Among those arrests were three women found guilty for wearing paraglider stickers at a protest.
Dom Murphy – the Met’s counter terrorism commander – told delegates he was monitoring 'legal but harmful' protests and the risk of 'low-sophistication' attacks by people radicalised online or at university since October 7th. 'If there are 100,000 people at a protest, and one person holding a Hamas flag, we will find them and arrest them,' Murphy reassured attendees. A majority of recent arrests targeted individuals aged under 17, he boasted, as proof that the 'early intervention' approach was working.
Another panellist praised Britain’s ability to pre-emptively arrest people for public order offences at demonstrations and target them for terror offences further down the line. Craig McCann, a former senior Prevent officer, expressed the mood in the room when he described ceasefire marches as a 'permissive environment for the transfer of extremist ideology.' Like other speakers, he sought to delegitimise opponents of Israel’s war on Gaza by characterising pro-Palestine protests as an 'Islamist camp conflating with far-Right anti-Semitism.' McCann explicitly linked Palestinian nationalism with Nazism, an Israeli propaganda point. Fellow panellists claimed parts of London were a 'no-go zone for Jews.' Discussing threats from 'street protest all the way through to terrorism,' the conference presented far Left, far Right, 'Islamist' and 'environmentalist' ideologies as equal, inter-related threats to British society. ... After lunch, discussion turned to 'British values' and protecting England from the menace of social media and foreign flags that vexed thousands of officers under Murphy’s command. Many felt the next-generation tech on display would ensure ever more effective crackdowns on street protest and dissent."

Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters announced Monday that his state’s Department of Education is changing its safety policy after students defiantly paraded outside a high school with American flags in their vehicles.
Caleb Horst, an Edmond Public Schools (EPS) senior, said the district demanded he remove an American flag from his vehicle by Monday, KOCO New 5 reported. When Monday came, a number of students protested the school’s disciplinary warning against Horst by showing up in vehicles with American flags, a video posted by the outlet showed. Adults were also present, according to the video report.
“It felt pretty good just to see how many people were behind us,” Horst told the outlet. “I know there’s a lot of people who aren’t behind us, but there’s probably even more that are, and it kind of was encouraging.”
EPS previously told KOCO that no policy exists in the district against vehicles displaying flags, but added that it is the standard not to do so. The district pointed to safety risks of flags in cars in a statement obtained by News9.
“It is the practice of Edmund Public Schools to not permit students to fly or bring flags of any kind on our school campus… flying flags on vehicles creates safety issues in the parking lot as well as can cause damage to the vehicles,” the district reportedly said..
The state superintendent spoke out against the school reprimanding Horst prior to Monday’s demonstration. “Patriotism should never be penalized at Oklahoma schools. Ever,” Walters wrote on X.
Tumblr media
Walters posted a video on the social media platform Monday, declaring in the caption that new guidelines “concerning the flag and honoring our country” would be released.
“No school in Oklahoma should tell students they can’t wave an American flag,” Walters said in the video. “We’ve had Americans die for that flag, die for students to have the right to carry the flag, to wave the flag, to be proud of that American flag.”
“My department right now is working on guidelines that we will be issuing to the districts to ensure that no student is ever targeted for having an American flag, and also that our schools will promote patriotism,” the state superintendent announced. “We want our young people to be patriotic, we want them to love this country. And we’re going to continue to support our young people to have the greatest understanding of American history in the country and to be proud of our country.”

"Just weeks before the implosion of AllHere, an education technology company that had been showered with cash from venture capitalists and featured in glowing profiles by the business press, America’s second-largest school district was warned about problems with AllHere’s product.
As the eight-year-old startup rolled out Los Angeles Unified School District’s flashy new AI-driven chatbot — an animated sun named “Ed” that AllHere was hired to build for $6 million — a former company executive was sending emails to the district and others that Ed’s workings violated bedrock student data privacy principles.
Those emails were sent shortly before The 74 first reported last week that AllHere, with $12 million in investor capital, was in serious straits. A June 14 statement on the company’s website revealed a majority of its employees had been furloughed due to its “current financial position.” Company founder and CEO Joanna Smith-Griffin, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles district said, was no longer on the job.
Smith-Griffin and L.A. Superintendent Alberto Carvalho went on the road together this spring to unveil Ed at a series of high-profile ed tech conferences, with the schools chief dubbing it the nation’s first “personal assistant” for students and leaning hard into LAUSD’s place in the K-12 AI vanguard. He called Ed’s ability to know students “unprecedented in American public education” at the ASU+GSV conference in April.
Through an algorithm that analyzes troves of student information from multiple sources, the chatbot was designed to offer tailored responses to questions like “what grade does my child have in math?” The tool relies on vast amounts of students’ data, including their academic performance and special education accommodations, to function.
Meanwhile, Chris Whiteley, a former senior director of software engineering at AllHere who was laid off in April, had become a whistleblower. He told district officials, its independent inspector general’s office and state education officials that the tool processed student records in ways that likely ran afoul of L.A. Unified’s own data privacy rules and put sensitive information at risk of getting hacked. None of the agencies ever responded, Whiteley told The 74.
...
In order to provide individualized prompts on details like student attendance and demographics, the tool connects to several data sources, according to the contract, including Welligent, an online tool used to track students’ special education services. The document notes that Ed also interfaces with the Whole Child Integrated Data stored on Snowflake, a cloud storage company. Launched in 2019, the Whole Child platform serves as a central repository for LAUSD student data designed to streamline data analysis to help educators monitor students’ progress and personalize instruction.
Whiteley told officials the app included students’ personally identifiable information in all chatbot prompts, even in those where the data weren’t relevant. Prompts containing students’ personal information were also shared with other third-party companies unnecessarily, Whiteley alleges, and were processed on offshore servers. Seven out of eight Ed chatbot requests, he said, are sent to places like Japan, Sweden, the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, Australia and Canada.
Taken together, he argued the company’s practices ran afoul of data minimization principles, a standard cybersecurity practice that maintains that apps should collect and process the least amount of personal information necessary to accomplish a specific task. Playing fast and loose with the data, he said, unnecessarily exposed students’ information to potential cyberattacks and data breaches and, in cases where the data were processed overseas, could subject it to foreign governments’ data access and surveillance rules.
Chatbot source code that Whiteley shared with The 74 outlines how prompts are processed on foreign servers by a Microsoft AI service that integrates with ChatGPT. The LAUSD chatbot is directed to serve as a “friendly, concise customer support agent” that replies “using simple language a third grader could understand.” When querying the simple prompt “Hello,” the chatbot provided the student’s grades, progress toward graduation and other personal information.
AllHere’s critical flaw, Whiteley said, is that senior executives “didn’t understand how to protect data.”
...
Earlier in the month, a second threat actor known as Satanic Cloud claimed it had access to tens of thousands of L.A. students’ sensitive information and had posted it for sale on Breach Forums for $1,000. In 2022, the district was victim to a massive ransomware attack that exposed reams of sensitive data, including thousands of students’ psychological evaluations, to the dark web.
With AllHere’s fate uncertain, Whiteley blasted the company’s leadership and protocols.
“Personally identifiable information should be considered acid in a company and you should only touch it if you have to because acid is dangerous,” he told The 74. “The errors that were made were so egregious around PII, you should not be in education if you don’t think PII is acid.”

This wasn’t just a case of a boy being in the same locker room as girls. He was watching them change and made comments about it afterwards. And then the school dealt with it by punishing the girls.
A Vermont school district has just reached a settlement to pay one local family $125,000 in damages after disciplining them for speaking out against a transgender student that was creeping out high school girls in a school locker room.
In addition, the school has promised to reinstate Travis Allen as a middle school soccer coach, as well as remove any records of discipline against him and his daughter in the school database.
Christian conservative legal group Alliance Defending Freedom, which handled the case on behalf of the Allen Family, has deemed the settlement a "resounding victory for freedom of speech."
As reported by The Daily Signal, the legal battle began last October with the Allen family filing a lawsuit claiming that Travis and his daughter Blake "were punished for expressing their view on a matter of profound public concern: whether a teenage male who ‘identifies’ as female should be permitted to change in a girls’ locker room, regardless of the discomfort experienced by the girls in that room."
As their lawsuit detailed, both Allens took a stand against a trans-identifying male student using the girls’ locker room at Randolph Union Middle/High School. According to Blake – one of the school volleyball players using the locker room at the time – the trans student was making the females in the vicinity uncomfortable.
While objecting to the biological male using the facilities, Travis and Blake allegedly "misgendered" the student, which resulted in the school district disciplining them both.
The lawsuit added, "In objecting to a male being in the room while the girls are changing, Travis and Blake each made comments underscoring that the trans-identifying student is in fact a male, including by using male pronouns."
It continued, noting, "Yet, their remarks were too much for Defendants’ transgender orthodoxy—Travis was deemed to have ‘misgendered’ the student, while Blake was found guilty of ‘harassment’ and ‘bullying’—so Defendants disciplined both of them."
The Orange Southwest School District Board and various school staff – the defendants in the case – suspended the father "without pay from his job as the Randolph Union Middle School girls soccer coach," the outlet noted.
Allen's daughter and several of her teammates were banned from using the locker room as a result of having criticized the trans student.
The suit charged that "Superintendent Layne Millington, Co-Principals Lisa Floyd and Caty Sutton, and the Orange Southwest School District Board are state actors and ‘violate the First Amendment’ by attempting to dictate ‘what may be said on matters of public concern.’"
The school district agreed to a settlement with the Allens, which requires the Vermont School Boards Insurance Trust to pay the family $125,000 in damages and lawyer fees, reinstate the father to his coaching position, and scrub the disciplinary mark off of Blake’s school records.
Further, the outlet noted that the settlement "requires the Orange Southwest School District Board and school officials named in the Allens’ lawsuit to remove any content posted online by the school related to the locker room business as well as from the bulletin board or boards at Randolph Union Middle/High School displaying ‘love and support’ messages to the trans-identifying student."
Alliance Defending Freedom senior counsel Phil Sechler commented on the result Thursday, saying, "The settlement of Blake and Travis Allen’s case is a resounding victory for freedom of speech. Calling a male a male shouldn’t have cost Travis his job and gotten Blake kicked out of school," he added. "We are very glad that the school agreed to do the right thing by giving Travis his coaching job back and dropping the discipline against Blake."
Sechler added, "Everyone has the right to speak freely, and we are grateful that this settlement further protects that right."
Fox News Digital reached out to the Orange Southwest School District for comment on the settlement and is waiting on a response.
Here’s an older story for more background information
“The school previously came under fire for banning the girls’ volleyball team from its own locker room after several players, among them Blake Allen, complained about the trans student, reported the Daily Signal.
Blake told station WCAX-TV earlier this month that the transgender girl made an inappropriate comment as the volleyball team was changing, which made students feel uncomfortable.”
“In his Facebook post addressed to the legal guardian of the trans female after the locker room incident, Coach Allen wrote in part: “The truth is your son watched my daughter and multiple other girls change in the locker room. While he got a free show, they got violated. You think this is fine and dandy. I wonder how you would feel if I watched you undress?”
Orange Southwest Unified School District Superintendent Layne Millington wrote in a letter sent out last week that Allen told school officials he called the trans student a “he” on purpose.
“Such conduct is unprofessional and unbecoming, and flies in the face of the Vermont Principal Association’s athletic regulations, Vermont State regulations, and the RUHS Middle-High School expectations,” Millington wrote.
The superintendent confirmed that Allen has been suspended without pay for “misgendering” the student. He added that school officials have “significant concerns” about the coach’s ability to “support all of our students as the law requires.”
Allen reportedly offered to stay away from using gender pronouns altogether when communicating with transgender students, but district officials demanded a public apology, which he refused to issue.”

CIRCA DECEMBER 2015, JUNIOR YEAR
It had always been a trio. You, Danny, and Sammy. You had moved to Frankenmuth your sophomore year of high school, right next to the Kiszka house. You and Sammy were close in age so you two started hanging out a lot more. He introduced you to Danny, he didn't like you at first. He thought you were taking Sam away from him.
Danny warmed up to you after him and Megan broke up. You two went to some high school party and he walked in on her with another guy. You found him on the front porch, crying. You had your keys in your ready to leave.
You sat down with him and asked him what was wrong. “Like you care,” was his first answer. “Just because you're an asshole to me, doesn't mean I don't care about you.” you told him. He looked at you and said, “I walked in on her with a dude.”
You apologized and stood up, you put your hand out and said, “Ice cream?” He grabbed your hand and stood up. You led him to your car and unlocked the doors.
You drove to Jaami's and you two walked in together. You got your ice cream and sat there, introducing yourselves to each other, finally getting to know one another. You finished your ice cream and drove him home.
He led you to his house and said, “Hey, Y/N, thanks for tonight, I really enjoyed it. Thanks for my ice cream.” and pulled out his wallet. He went to hand you a five but you refused and said, “My treat, Danny.” He smiled and put his wallet away. He had given you his phone number and said, “Tell me when you get home.” and shut your car door.
You told him when you were home and he asked if you could start driving him to school in the morning. You had already driven Sam to school, so you told him you could drive him to and from school for the remainder of high school.
AUGUST 2016, SENIOR YEAR
You, Sam, and Danny had been inseparable ever since you and Danny had gone out for ice cream. Sam and Danny had started playing at bars and every single show there was, you went to. The three of you were the best of friends and no one could ever take that away from you.
FEBRUARY 2017, SENIOR YEAR
You had gotten an acceptance letter from Pomona College for Women and Gender Studies. You still hadn't told Sam and Danny that you were leaving Michigan.
February 22nd was when Sam and Danny told you that after they graduated, they were going to Nashville. You were beyond happy for them and how excited you were for them.
On the same day, you sat them down in your room and told them, “I got accepted into Pomona College for Women and Gender Studies.” Danny hugged you and said he was happy for you. Sam on the other hand said, “What the hell? You told us you were staying here. You'll be in California, 1,000 miles away from us. I can't believe you.” and walked out of your house. You looked at Danny and he hugged you. “Don't cry hun, he’ll be back. I promise you he'll be back.” He said as you cried. You and Sam hadn't talked since.
JUNE 2017, GRADUATION DAY
“You may now turn your tassels, Frankenmuth Graduating Class of 2017!” announced Superintendent Hegenaur. You turned your tassels to the other side of your cap. You made your way outside and saw Danny with his family. You walked over to him and hugged him from behind, taking him by surprise. Josie and Lori congratulated you and Danny. You felt a tap on your shoulder and turned to see Josh.
“Hey Josh! How are you?” you asked him.
He said, “Hey Y/N, I'm good. Sam wants to see you but was too nervous to come over and talk to you.”
He led you over to where they were and saw your family talking to the Kiszka's. “Hi Sammy,” you said to him as you approached him. He said, “Hi, Y/N/N. Can we talk?”
You nodded and grabbed his hand. You two sat down on a bench outside the school and he started to say, “Y/N/N, I'm so sorry for the way I reacted. I love you and I just wanted you to stay here. Whenever Danny and I can, we'll come visit you at Pomona, as long as you visit us whenever you come home.”
Danny had come over and sat next to you. The three of you sat together on the bench, embracing each other and just loving each other.
CIRCA AUGUST 2017, MOVE IN DAY
You and your dad were about to leave to go to California. Sam and Danny had helped you pack up all your stuff. Josh, Jake, and Ronnie were all helping you pack everything into the car. You, Sam, and Danny walked down the stairs together, not wanting to leave each other.
The three of you had never split up for this long, you were always together, never apart. You hugged everyone, Josh, Jake, Ronnie, Karen, Kelly, Mom, Dad, Sister, and your dog. You hugged Sam and Danny last, savoring the moment.
That was the last day you were ever going to see them again.
PRESENT DAY, 2023
You had a job opportunity teaching at Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee. You had been teaching Women's Studies for a few years now, you loved your job.
Usually, you find yourself at home, eating dinner with Odie, the greyhound. Tonight, you found yourself at a bar.
You had a tough student who thought he was hot shit today. You needed a drink. You ordered food and a drink and ate alone. You heard a voice say, “Y/N/N?”
There was only one person who ever called you that, Sammy. You put your burger down and wiped your lips. You looked up and saw him, “Sammy?”
You got up and hugged him tightly, surprised you would ever see him again. “You never came back, you hoe.” he said, joking around with you. You apologized and told him, “My parents moved, I never had the time. I'm sorry.”
He let go of the embrace and said, “Can I sit? My girlfriend is getting us drinks, I'd love for you to meet her.” You nodded, welcoming him into your booth. His girlfriend came over and said, “Hi, you must be Y/N! I'm Lily!” You already loved her, she matched Sam's energy.
“Hi Lily! Yes, I am Y/N! Sam and I were best friends in high school.” you introduced yourself and turned to Sammy. “Speaking of, how's Danny?” you asked him.
He sighed and said, “He never had the guts to call you and tell you how you really feel. He was so pissed off at you because you never came home. I'm pretty sure he's still upset about it. He lives on the eastside, you should go see him.”
You answered him, “if he's mad at me, i'm not gonna want to see him.” He sighed and got off the topic of Danny. “So, why are you in Nashville?” he asked you. “I teach at Tenn State, I've been here for a few years now.” you told him. He looked at you and said, “No fucking way! I live like 10 minutes away from there, I've never seen you! Goddamnit I wish I knew. What do you teach?”
“Women and Gender Studies, I love it so much.” you told him. Lily spoke up and said, “Wait, are you Ms. Y/L/N? I think my sister might have you! Her name is Nola, Nola Yearwood!”
“Little Nola? Nola is your sister? I absolutely adore her!” you told her. The bar door opened and Sam turned around, waving over whoever it was. You couldn't see who it was until they came over. Josh and Jake turned the corner and gasped, not expecting to see you. Danny came up behind them, also surprised. You smiled at Danny and said, “Hi, D.” He turned around and left the bar.
You said hi to Jake and Josh and followed Danny outside. “Danny! Danny please,” you pleaded, just wanting to explain everything to him. “Jesus Christ! What?! What could you possibly want?” he questioned.
“Danny, my parents moved closer to me and my sister moved to New York. I had no purpose in Frankenmuth anymore.” you told him.
“No purpose? Did you forget about Sam and I? Do you know how sad Josie was to lose one of her best friends? How sad Sam and I were when we realized you weren't coming back?” he stated, making you feel like shit.
“I'm sorry. I had no reason to come back. I had a life in California. I have a life here now, I live here.” you told him.
“Sorry isn't good enough. You could've come back for a few days, but no. You chose to stop talking to us. I waited 7 fucking years to see you again. I would tell myself you were busy, making your dream come true.” he said to you.
“I didn't choose anything. You could've picked up the phone too.” you said to him.
“Sorry, unlike you, I have a real job. Welcome back, Y/N.” he said and walked into the bar. You sat outside and cried. You heard the door open and out came Sam, with your purse and your jacket in his hand. “Hey Y/N.” he said.
You smiled up at him, tears falling down your face. He sat next to you and handed you your stuff. You pulled your wallet out and handed him a twenty, “Close my tab for me?” you asked him. He pushed your hand down and said, “Lily got it for you. She knows how close we were.”
You asked him for her number, wanting to thank her for what she did. He hugged you and said, “You know Y/N, he loves you. He's mad because he loved you for 7 years and he bottled it up and never said anything. He loved you ever since you bought him ice cream.”
He asked you for your address, asking if he could come over later. You gave it to him and stood up. “I have to teach tomorrow. I need to go. I'll see you later.” You told him. He got up and hugged you, “I'm glad to have you back, Y/N/N.”
When you got home, you showered and cuddled up on the couch with Odie. You watched Ragnarok and had a glass of water while you watched.
You heard a knock on your front door. You checked your phone, 10:45PM. You got up and opened the door to see Sam and Danny. You sighed and said, “Come in,” and led them into your home. “Your house is beautiful, Y/N,” Sam said.
You asked them both if they wanted anything to drink, or if they wanted food. Sam said, “Do you have La Croix?”
“I have Poppi and OLIPOP?” you said. He went for an OLIPOP and sat down at your kitchen table. “Danny? Need anything?” you asked him. He didn't answer, just sat next to Sam, silent. You went over to the couch and shut the TV off. You grabbed your water and sat in front of them both. Sam spoke up and said, “You two need to work whatever out. Daniel, you made her cry. Y/N, you made him mad.”
“I don't have anything to say to her.” Danny said, getting up, ready to pull Sam out the door. “Sit down.” Sam said to him.
“Danny, I established a life in California. I had no reason to go back to Frankenmuth. I finished my studies and an opportunity arose in Nashville. Did you know, I went to Frankenmuth before I came here. I went to see you, both of you. No one was home, at either of your homes. I called both of you, no answer. So, I went to see you and you weren't there.”
“Well obviously we weren’t there. Because we moved. We moved far away from you.” he said.
“Wow, what do you think I am? Stupid? You two told me before I left, to come home on every holiday, that you would be there. Lo and behold, I came home and no one was home. Do not blame me, Daniel.”
“Whatever, Y/N. I'm leaving. I don't care if I have to walk home.” he said, got up and left. Sam got up and apologized. He walked out the door to see Danny sitting on the front step, crying. You opened the front door and heard Danny say, “Goddamnit Sammy, I love her so much, yet I can't find the words to tell her. I missed her so much, I'm just being an asshole to her.”
“Reminds me of sophomore year,” you said from the front door. You startled them both and Sam got up and went to the car, leaving you and Danny alone. You sat next to Danny and he put his head on your shoulder. “God, I am so sorry. I love you, I never stopped loving you.” he said. You wrapped your hand around him to touch his cheek. You rubbed the side of his face, comforting him.
“I love you too, Danny.” you said. “No, you don't. Not the same way I love you.” he told you. You moved his head and grabbed his face with your hands. You nodded and said, “Yes Danny, I do.” and kissed him. He grabbed your waist and kissed you back. You pulled away and wiped his face off.
Danny got up and went over to Sam's car. You heard him say, “I think I'm gonna stay the night. Can you bring me clothes?”
Danny walked back over and asked if he could spend the night. You nodded and sat up and led him inside the house. You called out for Odie who was asleep on the couch and said to him, “Listen Odie, you have to be nice to Danny, okay?” Danny pet Odie’s head and you set him down on the floor. Danny grabbed your face and kissed you hard, taking you by surprise. He had you against the kitchen counter. He lifted you onto the counter and took your shirt off. “Mm, nice tits.” he said and kissed your neck. You laughed and pulled his shirt over his head. “Where's your room?” he asked you, quickly. You pointed to your room and he picked you up off the counter.
By the time you two made it to your room, you only had your underwear on and Danny had his pants still on. He laid you down on your bed and you removed his belt.
Your alarm went off at 7:00AM, waking you up for work. Danny shuffled next to you and pulled you close to him. He nuzzled into your neck and said, “Call out, I just got you back.” You sadly told him, “I can't test today.” He sighed and said, “At least let me take you out for breakfast,” as he kissed down your neck. You told him that was fine and unwrapped his arms from around you. You went into your closet and picked out your outfit for the day. Tenn State was lenient with dress code, thank god. You wore flare jeans and a sweater with white platform converse.
“Sam dropped off clothes for me, can you get them off the front porch?” Danny asked you from your bed. You nodded and grabbed your phone. You grabbed his clothes and brought them upstairs.
He changed and came out to the kitchen where you were. You handed him your keys and let him drive. “You got your dream car” he said when he saw the car. It was a Mercedes G-Class. You had wanted this car ever since you were in middle school and you finally had it.
You put your purse and your backpack in the backseat and let him drive. You two went to the Pancake Pantry for breakfast.
After you ate, he took you to Dunkin. “Do you still get an iced caramel macchiato with extra caramel?” he asked you. You nodded and smiled, he remembered your order.
He drove you to work and asked what time you got off. “I have a short day today. I get off at 1PM.” you told him. He said, “Good, we can have more sex.” He waited for you to get inside and he drove away.
You got to your class and saw Nola sitting in the front. “Miss Nola, guess who I met the other day?” you asked her. She shrugged and you told her, “Your sister. Sam was my best friend in high school.” Her eyes lit up and said, “Do you know Danny, too? He's so hot, I've had a crush on him ever since Lily introduced me to them. I might ask him out on a date,”
You got jealous and said, “Sorry girl, he's taken.” She visibly got upset and said, “Damn, by who? Is she a slut?” You laughed and said, “I don't know, I've never met her.” You didn't want to tell her about you and Danny, as she was your student, not your friend.
When your shift was over, you got a text from Danny saying he was there. You got in the car and put your stuff in the backseat. “Guess who has a crush on you?” you asked him as soon as you put your seatbelt on. He shrugged and asked who. “Nola. Lily's sister. She told me today.” you told him.
He laughed and said, “Are you serious? Does she really?” You nodded and said, “Yeah, but I told her you were taken. I didn't tell her it was me though.” He said, “You should’ve. Establish dominance, Angel. Are you hungry?”
You nodded and he drove to Mellow Mushroom. You two ate and talked about how your day went. You two made it back to your house and as soon as you shut the front door, Danny had you up against it. “Missed you today, Angel.” he said, eagerly kissing your neck. You wrapped your arms around his neck and he lifted your leg up onto his hip. He grabbed your ass and walked over to the couch with you in his arms. He sat down on the couch and pulled you on top of him. You two sat down and made out for about 20 minutes, there was a knock on the door. You pulled away and said, “Fuck, I forgot I had to tutor Nola today.”
He sighed and went into your room, “I'll be back, gotta fix this. I'll be thinking about your tits.” He motioned down and you saw the bulge in his jeans. You followed him and said, “She’ll leave eventually,” and jumped up onto him. You wrapped your arms around his neck and he gripped your ass. “Come on, Angel. She needs your help.” he said and put you down.
You opened the door and saw Nola with her backpack in her hand. “Hey Miss Y/L/N, I was starting to think you forgot about me.” she said.
You let her in and you sat her at your kitchen table. You offered her a drink and she asked for an OLIPOP. You handed it to her and she opened it. You grabbed her test out of your bag and graded it very quickly for her. She only got about 5 wrong, so you went over those with her.
Once she left, Danny came out of your room and said, “Wanna be my teacher too?” You laughed and said, “Nope, sorry.” He sat down in the chair in front of you and said, “Good lord, I love you.” You shoved your books off the table and onto the floor. You climbed over the table and crawled into his lap. You sat in his lap and he palmed your ass. You kissed him passionately and he stood up and laid you down on the table.
You woke up on the couch, naked. You felt Danny next to you and you woke him up, telling him you were showering. He excitedly stood up and followed you into your bathroom. You two showered together and you laid your head down on his chest. He rubbed your back and kissed your forehead. “I missed you so much, Y/N.”
You two got out of the shower and you checked your phone, 5PM. You had a text from Nola, saying thank you for helping her. You went out to your kitchen and checked the fridge. You took out some skirt steak, peppers, onions, rice and some fajita seasonings. “Are steak fajitas good?” He nodded and asked, “Do you have a grill outside, I can cook the steak.” You nodded and handed him the steak with the seasoning. He cooked the steak outside as you cut up the onions and peppers and cooked them in some butter inside. You took out tortillas, limes, pico de gallo, and cooked the rice in the rice cooker.
You two sat down at the table and ate your food. When he finished, he said, “Can you drive me to mine tonight? I want to get some clothes and my car.” You nodded confused, “Are you moving in or something?” you asked and laughed. “Is it alright if I do?” he questioned. You nodded and grabbed his hand, “Of course it's alright. I'd love it if you stayed here,” you told him.
He looked at you and said, "Y/N, I lost you already and I don't want to lose you again. Will you be my girl?”
You nodded and said, “Of course,” and held his hand tighter. He got up and came over to your seat. He kissed you and grabbed your face.
He grabbed the plates and said, “You do enough for me, let me clean.” You stood up, ready to help him. He protested and said, “Go, on the couch. Sit down with the dog. Sit.” You reluctantly sat on the couch with your drink.
He was done doing the dishes and came over to you. “You ready?” he asked you. You nodded and stood up. You grabbed your purse and drove him to his place. He got out and collected his stuff. He opened his garage and you saw his car, a Corvette Z06. He came over to you and said, “Wanna race?” You laughed and said, “Good luck, this is an AMG. See ya at home baby.”
You made it home first and he pulled up to your house. “Good job, Ms AMG.” he said and grabbed his stuff from his car.
He put his stuff in your room and hugged you from behind. “You and me, together forever.”

ZENITH ENTERTAINMENT is a fictional South Korean entertainment company. It was founded in 2016 by former SM Entertainment executive LEE TAEIN, shortly after his supposedly amicable departure from the company.
They are best known for their first and flagship group FABLE, who continues to be the only artist formed solely by the company. Zenith is also notable for the way CEO Taein notoriously inserts himself into the smallest of business decisions, and their refusal to take trainees since Fable’s debut.
