Tsunade and her students ....minus Shizune

It looks like they all pretty much look the same age now. By the end of Boruto, Ino and Sakura would definitely look older than Tsunade, since Sakura opted out of using the transformation technique.

Something something about Tobirama (after he got over the Uchiha hater thing) he noticed Izuna's growing potential as a powerful sensor nin like him, so he offered to train him and taught him a thing or two.

A year later they were known as a deadly sensor duo, struck awe and fear in all 5 nations, and Tobirama pined HARD for Izuna

So here is a thought.

We rarely see Tobirama using genjutsu.

He's a ninjutsu specialist, sensor, kenjustsu, summons, Taijutsu, iryo nin, seal master. 

A lot of the time he's the one that helped Hashirama with his mokuton or the one that refined the iryo jutsus. 

Almost always Touka is the genjutsu specialist and kenjustsu user with her Naganata. But why is it that I haven't seen him being written as also helping Touka develop her genjutsus. In a lot of the stories he's actually closer to her than he is to Hashirama as they understand the other better. So it wouldn't be that weird that he trained with her, even if he's younger, and that someone had to practice with her. We don't know that much about genjutsu as it wasn't given as much screen time as other techniques. And a lot of it was Sharingan induced genjutsu. Genjutsu usually needs a cue to start. Fot the Uchiha, people need to look into their eyes. But I think sound can also be used. It needs people with good chakra control, creativity and attention to detail as they need to weave their creation. A great part of the jounins know a couple basic ones that help them mostly to go unnoticed. 

But I had a dream that got me stuck with an idea 💡. Tobirama has all he needs to be a great genjutsu user and I don't believe that with his curiosity and fights against the Uchiha, he wouldn't make it a point to study it inside out. My dream had him using genjutsu with a song. Except people only heard the first note, if at all, and as long as he keeps singing he's kind of invisible. Smell, sound, visuals. They are covered.  So it seems that he isn't there even if he just walks leisurely in front of them. Great for assesinations, infiltrations, data gathering and sabotage. I just think that he wouldn't use it on the battlefield as he doesn't want people to realize he can do it. And I think it would be so him to develop a way for the genjutsu to not be noticed. Subtle, precise and highly practical. I can see him helping Touka develop hers to another level and using himself as guinea pig for her. He would also use genjutsu to subtly misdirect people and make himself look like a demon. Consciously inflating his persona. Again, subtle things that make the people watching it think twice about it. A little like ghost stories. The "I swear I saw something" and the " That isn't normal!!" But no one ever makes the connection with seeing something and Tobirama using genjutsu as they didn't felt any fluctuation.

About the genjutsu.

The shinobi are supposed to be predisposed to genjutsu usage, it was mentioned in the canon, and I do not recall anything like that being mentioned about Tobirama. Just curiosity won't be enough? There was reason why Naruto couldn't use genjutsu, y'know. Though as an AU that is VERY good. I can see the way to utilise it for sure!

About the method.

The song however... Nuh. A no-go. Too ooc. Absolutly not. I could allow for the whistling.

About the other thing.

'Consciously inflating his persona.' DUDE! THAT'S SO COOL!! Diversions and sabotage are so fun, it's perfect for quite some twists in the plot! The stealthy stuff. Like, imagine Tobirama provoking a military conflict between two neighbouring nations for... I don't know... maybe unifying the land of Hi under the daimyo's influence? So good, so good.

A very nice thought.

Rin and Kushina jinchuriki double attacks: what's better than one amazing jinchuriki? TWO amazing jinchurikis. It'd be cool to see Rin and Kushina controlling their powers and fighting together. Also? Kushina being Rin's shishou is such an interesting concept. Yes, teach your local medic nin some sealing <3

Konan and Karin paper chains inferno: we have two sensors blessed with beauty and power... If they decided to set a trap together, I imagine there won't be much to save from the poor soul who's their target. They can also bond about being fucked over by one of the sannins... You know.

Anko and Ino purple fangs special: capture and torture the enemy, cracked the secrets on their minds and put a stop to their acts. Anko and Ino are both sure of themselves and their abilities, they are not afraid to show off and more than anything, they are every bit as capable as they say they are. The danger of sending them together in a mission...

Chiyo and Tenten army of two: one puppet master and one weapon master together? As long as Tenten is armed to the teeth, Chiyo would have the time of her life controlling a flying arsenal. Let's not forget that Tenten was trained by Gai, so she surely knows how to evade and be fast when she wants to.

Yugao and Shizune poison blades: two elite women of Konoha, specialists in kenjutsu and poison. It wouldn't be exactly nice to have them in your pursuit. It's not every day that an anbu captain and one of Lady Tsunade's appreciates want you dead. Just be careful to notice the senbon ad you try to don't fall for Yugao's katana.

I loved reading that Naruto fic you wrote at the start of 2023 "Bit part", with the SI protag a sweary cut-snake-mean chunin. Honestly the best bit interactions with bby!Kakashi, and his resulting unprofessional language acquisition :) The second best was the way you captured the frustrated pauses and half sentences, as you worked through her perspective. It really captured a heck of a lot of tone that's often missing from fic

One question: you said in some comments that she was a potential anbu/root candidate, but I could never work out why? She referred to herself as a mediocre med nin, so I thought it couldn't be that, other times she might have been hard to notice? Like when she was in the pub with Tabata. Did I miss something horribly obvious or was it lost under the general "unreliable narrator + short story" vibe?

oh haha yeah, yamada is actually an assassination & infiltration specialist— or at least, her talents naturally incline her to be very good at it, and there’s only so much of herself she’s capable of hiding when her life is on the line. she’s got an iron-tight amount of control over her chakra, partially because in some ways it still reads to her as foreign so she’s intimately aware of what she puts out to a sensor’s radar. she’s been scouted for anbu before, her lack of clan connections especially make her an appealing candidate for the kinds of missions konoha doesn’t want to admit they do (& especially for danzo’s sub division). she just doesn’t want too (lol) and devoted an uncharacteristic amount of effort to being a halfway competent med-nin, which sort of gets her left alone but objectively just makes her an even more appealing candidate for these kinds of things…

it’s all probably a bit toooooo “implied” but i wrote that story to have fun and work through writers block. so lol.

unfortunately for poor yamada all roads lead to doing jobs she doesn’t want to do. to me and the vague future i envision for her she’ll wind up being jiraiya’s (and minato’s) agent upon being very unwillingly dragged into a political conspiracy— jiraiya doesn’t want to be doing this either but sakumo is his friend and danzou crossed a line to him by trying to take out this specific political enemy. yamada is already involved and good at what she does so she was a bit doomed the moment minato pegged her for being competent.

Naruto Shippuden - The Tale of an alternate Adventure || Chapter 01 - A Dangerous mission

The Third Shinobi War waged, leaving countless lives shattered in its wake. The Third Hokage had given the team of Tokuwa Uchiha, his daughter Nao and the two skilled Shinobi Kenta and Ayame an important mission.

One, that needed the power of two Sharingan, even if it meant sending a young child like Nao to war.

Konoha's military ressources we're low and so Hiruzen Sarutobi had to send even inexperienced Genin like Nao to war.

For additional support, the sensory Type Kenta was a member of their Team and Ayame was a skilled medic nin.

The Hokage fehlt that with these additional skills, the team of Tokuwa was as decently prepared for this mission, as possible.

"It is important that you suceed, Tokuwa. If the enemy manages to deliver their information, the fate of Konoha will be uncertain in this war.", the Third Hokage said. Tokuwa simply nodded.

He had already fought several times in this war alongside Kenta and Ayame and knew what was on the line. And for the Sake of his Clan and Konoha, he would finish this mission sucessfully.

After a short briefing, the Squad was dismissed and headed outside.

The mission was grueling, a test of both physical endurance and mental fortitude.

The mission required precision, stealth and patience, especially from young Nao. The young girl had barely graduated from the academy and was now, with barely any real fighting experience thrust into this war.

Surely, this wasn't her first mission during the Third Shinobi War, but something felt off about this mission.

Even as a child, Nao understood the added weight of their mission. The Sharingan of both her father and herself made the father-daughter Duo invaluable for tracking and outwitting the enemy Shinobi.

However, no one expected the emotional and the physical toll the mission would take on them.

It was the second day of tracking the enemy and the Forrest was quiet, save for the rustling leaves and the soft Footwork of their Team, moving in Formation.

Nao's senses were sharp, despite her immer turmoil. Beside her, Tokuwa kept pace, his face stoic but calm.

Nao had always admired her fathers strengt and composure and as a member of their Team, the young Uchiha strove to prove herself worthy of the Same reputation her father had.

Yet, something wasn't right. Nao couldn't shake the tension in her fathers demeanor, the way he was more distant than usual and the way his gaze was sharper, more intense.

As they moved forward, Tokuwa shared a short look with his daughter.

"Nao, keep your guard up. These Shinobi are dangerous and carry vital information.", he reminded her, his voice low but firm.

Nao nodded. "I know, father." Her face was serious but beneath her calm composure was a whirlwind of emotions.

Nao had always looked up to her father and his reputation as a skilled Shinobi and Uchiha. He had always been her source of strength, a bright example of what it meant to be a Shinobi.

Nao admired her father deeply but there was always a dark shadow looking over her - The fear of failure, fear of not living Up to the expectations placed upon her as an Uchiha and his daughter.

Kenta and Ayame moved almost silently behind them, their presence a silent reminder that they weren't alone during this mission. Moreso, their presence was a silent reassurance for the young Uchiha.

Kenta's abilities as a Sensor we're invaluable and Ayame, though soft-spoken and kind, was fierce when it came to protecting her comrades.

Their team worked well together, thanks to the shared history between the three adults but Nao often felt a gap between herself and the others. Nao knew that she was by far the most inexperienced one in their Squad and would quickly become the target for enemy attacks, should they noticed.

She tried to push her fears of letting the team down and her worry of not being able to carry the expectations aside, but the feeling that something was wrong kept gnawing at her.

another randon hc I've been thinking about lately: on Sasuke's "redemption" journey, he started writing to express himself while alone. Later on, it resulted in beautiful poetry about Juugo while he sorted out his thoughts and feelings that he guards with his life out of fear of someone finding them.

Imagine Sasuke being all alone on his journey and then finding comfort in getting his thoughts out of his head and onto paper so he could take time to reflect on them later and process it. Maybe he starts with stream of consciousness; just writing whatever comes to mind about his past, his future, his feelings-- anything. and then one day he starts noticing that everything he's writing about is how he feels about Juugo. So he stops for a bit because it scares him. He's never had feelings like this, or if he has he never had the time or space to think about it, and now that he's seeing them in front of him he feels more than a little overwhelmed because what is he supposed to do with these feelings? But writing is the only way to get it out of his system so he starts again, doing his best not to sensor himself and just let it all out. It takes a little while for him to get comfortable with this level of intimacy with his feelings. After all, how he feels is foreign to himself too. But he gradually loosens up and the result is a small notebook overflowing with pages on how he feels about a very particular nin.

Four sound nin lay motionless on the ground, a crimson fluid leaking from places where limbs used to be. Even after the death of Orochimaru, his minions cause trouble.

Upon a rock sits a woman, holding her own severed arm to her shoulder as she spits some sort of silk to sew it back on. Despite the wound she suffered, she is not bleeding. That, coupled with the arrangement of her kimono as if it were her own funeral, makes an extremely unnerving sight.

Up on a branch, far behind the only remaining chakra signature of the battlefield, Shino observes the scene, presence and chakra signature hidden and scattered via insects through the forest; an anti-sensor measure. He should be undetectable. He was sent to take a look at the unfolding events in the area, only departing from his current mission to assure everyone's safety; His stealth and skillset being the best choice for gathering intel.

Four bodies and an unidentified woman treating her own wounds. Not wanting to stay longer and attract attention, Shino considers his observations done and flickers away, leaving a few insects on the perimeter for good measure. If something happens, they will come back. If they die, he'll feel their absence and know.

karin's ability to heal isn't ninjutsu either. ninjutsu is performed with hand seals by manipulating chakra but karin does none of that, she just gets bitten no science behind it. the way she saved tsunade is by letting her bite the arm and restore some of her chakra because tsunade was healing herself and the other kage with katsuyu. katsuyu was slower in healing the five because her power is connected to the byakugou and with the seal katsuyu or any form of remote healing cant be performed. karin gave tsunade chakra to accelerate the healing process tsunade was already doing.

becoming interested in medical aspects was invented by the fandom probably, she's still a hideout guard.

karin excels in sensory ninjutsu. that's why she's the best innate sensor in the world (with naruto but he cheats with sage mode) and no one alive coming on her level right now.

tobirama wasn't a scientist he was the hokage known for his sensory ninjutsu and water release.

but it's true there are levels of medical ninjutsu knowledge. for example sakura's teachings from both tsunade and shizune allowed her to be an expert botanist to create antidotes, drugs and medicines and also perform very advanced medical procedures, autopsies and study the body. that's why she's considered the best in the world right now. applying it to taijutsu is something else.

there are other medics that can only share chakra without healing, there are others that heal and there are others that just focus on simple medicine like hospital staff. not everyone learns on the same level.

You're right about the ninjutsu thing. I was trying to answer quickly so I ended messing up the reply, sorry about that sjdndkbdjd.

But Tobirama is a sort of scientist. Remember when Black Zetsu talked about Madara's body? He mentioned that Tobirama was "studying the mysteries of the sharingan", right? And we know that he invented a lot of jutsus. Of course, there's no mistaking him for a medic nin because there's not even ground for comparison, but that's the whole point.

Studying jutsus, studying seals, even studying kekkei genkais, those are their own categories. You can combine them, use them for medical purposes, but there's a very defined line between what they are and how they can be transformed.

I think my confusion and wonder comes from pondering what makes medical ninjutsu medical.

Is it the intention? For example, we saw Sakura manipulating liquids to extract the poison from Kankuro's body. Does it count as a form of water manipulation? That means that, if for example, I decide to apply fire release to cauterize a wound, I am performing medical ninjutsu?

There's also medical knowledge that stops being medical because it's not used to heal. Take Sasori, who had to be well versed in anatomy to create their puppets. He was very familiar with medical ninjutsu and he was shown as a counterpart to Chiyo and Sakura. The only difference is that he was using his knowledge to cause damage, not heal. Or you can take the fight between Tsunade and Kabuto; they were applying medical ninjutsu to damage each other, right?

I'm probably overcomplicating everything, but I can't help it. I love to think about these things.
