In one of your answered questions you put that ragne was orignally supposed to be Vanja's love interest. Can you explain more about that
"Supposed to be" may not be the right phrasing, haha!
There is a period of time with every story where it exists in my skull not as a linear series of events, but a primordial soup of ideas for scenes, characters, vibes, etc. For LT, that was right around October/November 2019. I joked earlier that Vanja is a spectrum from Eleanor Shellstrop to Sophie Devereaux, and at this point, I envisioned her a lot closer to Sophie. My first idea for her love interest would be the chaotic, semi-feral son of the god who had cursed her, assigned to basically monitor Vanja, and accidentally foiling her mean-spirited endeavors by being honest and nice.
It was a fun dynamic, but ultimately, I felt like it wasn't hitting the right notes, or allowing for the most interesting character growth. I didn't like the idea that her love interest would be, even unintentionally, constantly undermining her, but not in a way that challenged her. Or that she would be in a relationship with someone essentially expected to surveil her. Or with someone who was still learning how humans work, and thus wouldn't have an understanding of the games and nuances that Vanja relied on to survive—someone Vanja could tell herself only loved her because he didn't know better.
Then I had an idea to make the love interest someone who did understand her, however grudgingly. Someone who could appreciate the ingenuity in her schemes as well as the awful things she's survived, and that would challenge her and be challenged in kind.
I also really, really wanted to write a bitchy teenage boy detective.
So by the time Little Thieves went into the outlining phase, Ragne was a girl and Emeric was Vanja's love interest. And you know (most of) the rest. :)

do you see the vision?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
okay I admittedly have yet to beat echoes of wisdom. But i mean. It is too perfect. Princess Lizzie on the run with only her fairy companion for company, using her magic to defeat enemies in the name of rescuing some weird overdramatic rando with a sword from a demon. Also to stop the demon from destroying the world, but mostly the rescuing part. He left his cloak behind! It’d be rude not to return it! Anyway i want pictures of Spider-Man on my desk by morning meme but about desperately needing a fic of this. Joel being pathetic, Lizzie being badass, Joel being absolutely Whipped for this awesome magical warrior princess come to rescue him and Lizzie being like. “Uhh you forgot your cape. Here have it back. Goodbye! ^^” (again, haven’t actually beat the game yet lol) anyway yadayadayada they eventually get married and live happily ever after the end because happy endings make me happy. *Eleanor Shellstrop voice* CAUSE IM BASIC! (I know she would never say that i just can’t call anything basic without thinking of that show lol I’m getting off topic uhhhh)

Series/webtoons if you like Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss
Tumblr media
Lovely hell
Tumblr media
I'll start right away with the probably least known AND best of all - at least in terms of being similar to the universe of HH and HB-.
"Tanz, a powerful creature of pure evil, is vanished to Earth agaist her will. Weak and without a plan, she'll have to rely to Cain, a human, to guide her throught the world and figure a way back to her home: Hell."
First of all, it's a webtoon, so you can read it for free on Webtoon! Created by Tita (stage name Lorsupp), the story takes place in the present day. our protagonists are biblical characters (I won't give spoilers about who Tanz is. Cain, you guys must have already understood...).
This webtoon deserves much more recognition! the story is organic and well-paced, funny and tense when necessary. The characters are super charismatic and have chemistry, the Lore of Hell is super interesting and with a different approach from HH/HB. I love the character design - you can see the evolution of the author's traits as the chapters go by.
It's great to see other ways of approaching well-known characters -like the Jewish/Christian angels and demons-. A emphasis for Gabriel, ahhh this character hahah Anyway, this webtoon is the one I most recommend!
You can read it -> Webtoon account
When Instagram starts working again, I'll share the creator's account here!
Vilanius
Tumblr media
This series - with just a few episodes left - is a Mexican animation released for Cartoon Network. Compared to HH's type of humor, here it is much more toned down, as it is aimed at a younger audience.
"Villainous is the story of Black Hat Org., run by Black Hat (whose name is synonymous with villain, a reference to the evil black-hatted cowboys of Western films) and his team of three less evil sidekicks. Black Hat is trying to sell various evil inventions created by Dr. Flug and is desperate to fulfill his evil aspirations. However, things often end badly for him, as brilliant innovations tend to have small and often comical flaws."
The lore has nothing related to the Hell, but it still focuses on the evil side of the story. I love the character designs, very similar to HH. It's worth checking out, even more Latin animation!
The Good Place
Tumblr media
A series already consolidated and finished. One of my favorites on Netflix!
Even though it's not exactly Heaven and Hell, the concept is very similar. but what stands out here is the philosophical debate about what is right and wrong, how to be a good person in a world marked by individualism, competition and exploitation so that a person can have the basics to survive? -neoliberalism cough cough-.
"Eleanor Shellstrop wakes up to discover that she has died and entered the afterlife. But when she is told by her mentor Michael that she is in the "Good Place" because of her good deeds, helping to get innocent people off death row, she realizes that a mistake has been made because the people They think she is someone else with the same name."
Question about existentialism, ethics and the meaning of life debated in a fun way! A quick comparison to Bojack Horseman, a series that I love. in The Good Place, the existentialism, life and death are treated in a much more optimistic and... beautiful way, while in Bojack it is pessimistic and heavy. the debates on human existence can have lighter conclusions - this is not a criticism of Bojack, just a different approach.
Guardians of the Mansion of Horror
Tumblr media
This recommendation won't have a personal review because... I still need to watch it! but I saw so many people recommending it, saying that it has good LGBT+ representation that I thought it would be interesting to bring it here. If anyone has already watched it and wants to say something about it...
"Guardians of the Mansion of Horror follows friends Barney and Norma as they work at a theme park during the summer. The two take the night shift and are responsible for organizing the place while it is empty. What they didn't expect is that this fun place is actually an interdimensional portal to hell. Suddenly, several supernatural creatures appear to haunt the Earth and the two friends must join forces to stop them. To do this, they receive help from the talking dog, Pugsley."
Inside Job
Tumblr media
Here we have the biggest injustice in the history of Netflix, the cancellation of this series! I brought it here because of their type of acidic and critical humor towards society - not that this criticism is present in HH-. An adult animation, with swear words and the same irreverent touch as HH, following the shadow side of society.
"A dysfunctional team working in a hidden government department is tasked with keeping conspiracies around the secret world. From complicated attacks to secret societies, anti-social technology genius Reagan Ridley will need to work in a place full of shapeshifting reptilians and psychic mushrooms, at the same time as she must deal with an unbalanced father, in order to achieve the dream she dreams of. promotion."
Emphasis to the animation itself and the character design. When it comes to other species, we have unique designs, they even resemble the design of demons in HH.
irreverent, intelligent and humorous. 🤌
Good Omens
Tumblr media
It's almost a rule, if you watched Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss, you also watched Good Omens!
For those who have never given the series a chance, here are some reasons to watch it now: Inspired by Neil Gaiman's work - and approved by him! -!. It is focused entirely on this universe of Jewish/Christian characters - and it is possible to see how well they are studied! There are references that only those who have studied demology or the sacred writings of these religions will understand-
The first season has a wonderful rhythm with captivating characters - the second lacks this a little. The angel and devil couple are super charismatic and you root for them.
Watching some of the biblical events from the point of view of the questioning and sinister demon Crowley and the good lamb Aziraphale is wonderful!

Hi Noa. What is The Good Place actually about. Like I know what the good place/bad place is but I am realizing that I do not know like. The actual story being told.
Also I'm pretty sure my library has it on DVD so in your biased opinion should that be the next thing I watch when I finish Succession this week?
WATCH THE GOOD PLACE!!!
it is the best show in my opinion. out of all of them. it scores 10/10 for comedy, intelligence, messaging, character arcs, all of it.
the plot of the show is that eleanor shellstrop, self-proclaimed arizona dirtbag, dies, and ends up in "the good place." there's one problem: michael, the good place architect running the neighborhood she's living in, seems to believe that she was an activist who was feeding children in war-torn countries, or something. there's been a mix up!! now it's her, and her soulmate, chidi anagonye, against the world. chidi was a philosophy professor in life, raised in senegal, then moved to australia at somepoint (even tho he has an igbo name and the igbo people are native to nigeria and not senegal, but I digress). chidi has the worst anxiety ever and frets over every single choice he has to make. he's a strict kantian, and does not ever lie. so when his soulmate tells him "hey so I'm not actually your soulmate I'm a girl from arizona!!" he completely freaks out.
rounding out the main six you have:
tahani al-jamil: an extremely wealthy british socialite who made philanthropy her personality in life, but not because she cared about the causes she donated to, she just wanted her parents to like her and not give all their attention to her artistic sister kamilah
jianyu the monk: a monk who's taken a vow of silence. definitely a monk. definitely named jianyu.
michael: the good place architect running his very first neighborhood! he's trying to make sure everything runs smoothly and his residents are all as happy as possible
janet: michael's not-a-robot not-a-girl assistant. she runs the neighborhood and gets residents anything they need. she also knows literally everything. she starts off highly robotic and has an amazing character arc throughout the show.
DO NOT. AND I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. GO LOOKING FOR POSTS OR ANYTHING ABOUT THE GOOD PLACE. THERE ARE SOME MAJOR SPOILERS AND YOU REALLY DO NOT WANT YOUR FIRST VIEWING TO BE RUINED!!
that is, assuming, you haven't already seen the major spoilers.
you're gonna wanna watch it twice, btw. not back to back. because everything that's built up in s1 and s2 are resolved beautifully in s3 and s4, and you won't catch all of those things the first time.
basically the good place has everything. it's hilarious. it has the best writing. it's tight as fuck. it's the tightest writing I've ever seen. the actors are phenomenal. there's beautiful love stories but not everyone ends up with a partner. janet is canonically nonbinary, and you don't have to like, read too deeply to get that michael is aroace and kind of repulsed by all of that stuff. eleanor is canonically bisexual. ted danson's tummy is quite visible pressing up against his silly little suits for the entire show. there is nothing more you could want.

character basics ⋅˚₊‧ ୨୧ ‧₊˚ ⋅
Tumblr media
Abril Valdivia picked up her key from the front desk two months ago. The twenty-four year old uses she/her pronouns and is a Graduate Student and Tattoo Apprentice at Caos Tatoos on the Catalina from Tijuana, Mexico. According to her apartment application, people have told her she looksa lot like Andrea Chaparro and the character they identify with most is Eleanor Shellstrop from The Good Place. Santa Moneda gives you a warm welcome, and we hope you enjoy your stay. (sophie, 24, she/her, gmt - 8)
-- Basics
full name: abril valdivia-sosa
hometown: tijuana, mexico / san diego, ca
sexuality: (closeted) gay
birthday: april 9th
zodiac: aries sun, gemini moon, cancer rising
height: 5'6"
languages spoken: spanish, english
relationship status: single
traits: witty, creative, resourceful, protective, loyal, defensive
-- Background (tw death, addiction)
abril was born in tijuana, mx to loving parents maria elena and antonio. life in her formative years are remembered fondly, as she grew up with two supportive parents who offered her the best experiences they could. however, tragedy struck just days after turning eight, when abril unexpectedly lost her mother to a rare heart condition, leaving her and her father heartbroken.
abril's father, overcome with grief, sought solace in the pursuit of wealth and success for him and his only daughter. what began innocently with weekend trips to the casino soon escalated into an all-encompassing gambling addiction. his relentless pursuit kept him away from home for days on end, chasing one get-rich quick scheme after another.
as days turned into nights, her father's absence became routine for abril. with no siblings to rely on, abril was left to live with her ailing grandmother. working at the local laundromat, commissioning her doodles, performing chores for neighbors, and even seizing opportunities to pickpocket became her strategy for survival.
although not particularly fond of school, abril was encouraged by her grandmother to pass her classes in hopes of forging a new path for herself. a diploma meant a ticket out of the city that reminded her of her parents. years of mourning the loss of her mother in isolation, coupled with the neglect of her basic needs, led to the resentment towards her father for the choices he made a desire for a stable future. once she graduated high school, she attended university in san diego, ca. during her senior year of school, her grandmother passed away. she never got to see her graduate. even after receiving her degree, the city's proximity to her home town served as a constant reminder of the life she wanted to escape. she needed a fresh start.
following graduation, abril decided to pursue a graduate degree in psychology in a valparaíso. abril is determined to seize the opportunity for the new beginning she craved. however, years of maturing at an accelerated rate have set her up to make some reckless choices as a young adult with newfound freedom.
-- Personality
abril operates primarily in her self-interest, and her demeanor is marked by a sense of self-assuredness. she tends to be judgmental of others and their choices as she has a history of being let down by those she loves and trusts. her fear of commitment manifests in a tendency to engage in casual relationships, and her dry wit, though sharp, can be occasionally off-putting to those around her. despite these qualities, abril possess a scrappy resilience that has served her well. her loyalty to the people she loves is unwavering, and her street smarts make her a resourceful and trustworthy companion when things get hard.
-- Headcannons
loves art, doodles and paints in her spare time. sometimes she takes commissions from shop owners to add street art to the walls of their businesses.
tattoo apprentice
chases a good time (gimme one margarita)
loves astrology and crystals
is very financially conscious
has a cat named flora
commitment issues queen
-- Connections
short-lived romances: abril does have some, how do u say commitment issues. i'd love to see her forage an enemies-to-lovers type of situationship. enemies with benefits if u will.
the best friend from childhood: abril moved to chile after finding out a childhood best friend of hers lives here and is thriving. i'd love for her to have a connection with someone she can let her guard down around!
caos tattoos: u have been promoted ! any of her friends who work at this parlor that she practices tattooing, gossips with, or goes out to party with after her shift.
the unlikely duo (taken): it's hard to imagine abril in an established friend group, but i'd love to see her befriending someone with a sunnier personality! perhaps they bond over a shared love for art <3
shop owner (taken): someone to commission her to do street art on their building for tourists
queer girl romance (taken) <3: abril's queerness is going to be something that she is going to explore now in the city (denile is a river in egypt). i'd love for there to be a queer woman or nb person in her life that she secretly adores and just can't seem to figure out why (she needs them biblically) .

thinking about eleanor shellstrop realizing she's genderqueer when chidi is giving her a lesson or something, and he accidentally calls her "they"
she stops him in the middle of a sentence, and she's like "hmm. that was weird but i didn't hate it... continue." and chidi is just a bit perplexed, and continues on with his lesson
but, eleanor doesn't let it go. she keeps bringing it up at gatherings, at dinners, at hangouts. she's always like "hey, remember that time you called me 'they'? wasn't that crazy?"
and one of the times she mentions it one-on-one with chidi, he's like "hey... you know that's something you can ask people to do, right? you know you can ask people to call you they. you know, like your pronouns?"
and eleanor is like "well... i mean yeah (she didn't know that) but also i'm fine with 'she' too..."
and chidi basically has to explain that gender is a spectrum and a bunch of stuff about gender and pronouns, and he ends up having janet give eleanor a book on nonbinary identities and that's when everything clicks for her

FULL NAME: kendall summers NICKNAME: ken, kenny AGE & DATE OF BIRTH: twenty-seven & april 12th (aries) GENDER & PRONOUNS: cis-woman & she/her BIRTHPLACE: perth, australia OCCUPATION: actress FACECLAIM: courtney eaton CHARACTER PARALLELS: helly (severance), eleanor shellstrop (the good place), roman roy (succession), charlotte hale (westworld), dan humphrey (gossip girl)
biography
PART ONE.
some people were never meant to be famous. kendall summers certainly didn’t plan on it. growing up watching movies on a television set that didn’t have cable on most days didn’t inspire her life as an actor. she was prepared for the eventuality of living and dying in her humble suburb just outside of perth
it started out as a bit role in romeo and juliet—an understudy to the lovestruck capulet herself. the school production was nothing more than something to keep kendall busy when class was over. when the lead got sick, ken found herself thrust into the spotlight for the first time in her life and, with it, a newfound passion for acting
after small-time commercial spots and bit parts in other local productions, her lucky break had almost come when she was up for a spot in a daytime soap opera. competing against a close friend who had come up alongside her, kendall narrowly lost the role—faking smiles and pleasantries as if it didn’t crush her. the rejection made kendall all the more determined to make it big, vowing to herself that she wouldn’t lose out to any other actors who didn’t come close to the talent she had in her pinky finger
PART TWO.
the casting call for atonement seemed like a far shot. hundreds of people, hoping for the same break, waited for the call that kendall was lucky enough to receive. her first production in a hollywood film was a step on a very tall ladder she was eager to climb. the performance landed her a few notable nominations and, more importantly, was the breakthrough role she’d worked so hard for. while her friends back in perth were busy attending summer camp, kendall was walking red carpets with the likes of meryl streep
and, sure, “friends” were a stretch. what little she did have could be counted on one hand. she had given up her childhood to pursue a career as an actor, spending more time with producers than kids her own age. did it matter? with her star on the rise, kendall landed more roles in action flicks, dramas, and even voice acting spots here and there. she might have had little in a life outside of acting, but a thousand other girls were waiting in the wings to take her place should she choose otherwise. giving up to go back to her shoebox bedroom with her tail tucked between her legs was not an option
twilight, hunger games, divergent—young adult franchises had the world in a chokehold. despite her agent’s protests, kendall pushed for the lead in what was once thought to be the new hit series, the host. the only thing standing in her way was a familiar face she’d come up against once before—the very girl she’d lost the role to all those years back. while kendall was a natural shoo-in for the part, she wasn’t going to let things up to chance
tmz, perez, and just about every gossip outlet had caught wind of the news leaked about the rival actress… all thanks to kendall herself. in an instant, the other girl’s reputation had taken a nosedive and, with it, any hope of landing the lead in the upcoming movie. kendall summers was on top of the world
that was, until the host tanked. hard. critics and fans alike were quick to point fingers at kendall’s performance and many wondered if she had the acting chops to follow through into more mature roles. as bad as it was, it did little to deter her. rotten tomatoes could eat shit, for all she cared
PART THREE.
kendall put her blockbuster dreams on the back burner—for the moment. she instead turned her attention towards independent films and prestige projects. standout performances in the grand budapest hotel and lady bird had even gotten her an in with well-known directors. slowly but surely, she got back into the good graces of the general audience as their beloved indie darling
she made a name for herself in historical dramas and, as much as she loved the praise, getting type-cast was a career nightmare. while her contemporaries were getting cast in exciting sci-fi films and fun romcoms, she was stuck in a pattern she was desperate to break out of
most people would have killed to have something like little women on their resume. even kendall was shocked that something like that could happen to a girl like her. but, as the dust settled, she knew that her social capital was on the rise
behind her agent’s back, she signed on to do a marvel movie—revitalizing the fantastic four franchise as sue storm. she was convinced that the film would finally make her the bonafide a-lister that she had always wanted to be
despite the staggering budget and endless press, the movie bombed yet again. not only did fans call out its sorry attempt at an adaptation, but the production had been chaos from the start. a rotating cast of directors, a script that had been constantly rewritten, and a never-ending list of complaints that she was somehow “difficult” to work with. safe to say that it was not the breakout role she was hoping for. what did the universe have against her? was it karma? retribution?
whatever the case, kendall finds herself at a standstill. does she go back to the period pieces that had slowly sucked the life out of her or sell her soul to whatever comic book franchise they’re going to reboot for the hundredth time? she has since taken a break from doing any more projects, despite her agency and collaborators calling her constantly to pick up a script
sooner or later, kendall summers has to answer the phone. here’s hoping it’s not the cw this time
extras
fun facts
moved to los angeles at a fairly young age so her australian accent is barely noticeable. moved to new york once she got older, but goes back and forth for work
loves thrifting and second-hand clothing. she can afford the nicer things now that she has the money for it, but still likes vintage clothes more than designer… unless they’re paying her
has finstas and fake fan accounts to see what people (fans) are saying about her. has been known to drop an inside joke during interviews and posts here and there
notoriously awkward to interview even though she has all the media training in the world
lost an award to another famous actress. proceeded to call the cops (anonymously, of course) on said actress’s after-party out of spite
traits
+ bold, ambitious, observant, grounded, thoughtful
– impulsive, self-sabotaging, spiteful, vindictive, egotistical

This is why I love Donna Noble so much! She was initially an absolutely despised Dr. Who companion that ended up having the most beautiful (& hearbreaking) character arc.
She was cruel & petty & just embraced adult mean-girl behavior. But she was a huge dork who was clever & funny & who also had no time for the Doctor's ego (which even he admitted was good for him to be checked on).
She was insecure & defensive with a complicated family dynamic. She couldn't find a partner who saw her for more than her obnoxious bravado trying to cover that she was awkward & a bit weird. When she found a fiancé, it turned out he was only with her to basically feed her to a giant spider-queen (which is how she met the Doctor in the first place).
Donna didn't actually think she was worth much of anything we came to realize (just like a trash-bag from Arizona we all may know). Even near the end of Donna's season, after all she had seen & done in the universe with the Doctor, she didn't actually believe him still when he'd cheerfully tell her that he thought she was a brilliant person.
But by that point, we believed it as an audience. We saw how deeply she felt & cared about the well-being of others- not just those close to her. Her compassion saved the Doctor's life on their first meeting & as a direct result helped save the universe from obliteration.
If you recall, Eleanor may have contributed a thing or two to the entire overhaul of the afterlife for humanity & the management of their eternal souls. No big deal.
Neither woman ever stopped being sassy & snarky to everyone & they never lost their indomitable spirits. They were some of the best examples of frustrating, messy, painfully REAL people.
Donna Noble & Eleanor Shellstrop would have been fabulous frenamies & eventually (I think) true friends.
I wish we had more female characters like Eleanor Shellstrop. One of the most unlikable people you've ever met. Read a Buzzfeed article on most rude things you can do on a daily basis and decided to use that as a list of goals. Makes everyone's day worse just by being there. Dropped a margarita mix on the ground and tried to pick it up, only to get hit by a row of shopping carts which pushed her into the road where she was hit by a boner pill delivery truck, killing her instantly. Cannot keep a romantic partner despite being bisexual. Had a terrible childhood but will die before she gets therapy. Best employee at a scam company. Just the worst but also can't help but root for her to improve.
Absolute loser. Girl-failure. Bad at almost everything. Literally perfect female character.

the goood place star wars au straight from my drafts
The Good Place Star Wars AU Ideas
Jason Mendoza is basically the same. He runs a dance crew in a nasty joint on Tattooine, steals speeders and goes out rat shooting for fun, and mainly makes his money running spice to kids at the imperial academy a few worlds over.
Janet is a highly advanced imperial protocol droid with silver plating assigned to Michael.
Michael is a Twi’lek imperial undercover officer assigned to try to bring down rebel cells from within. A former agent of the separatists, Michael is an agent of chaos. The new boss is the same as the old boss in his eyes in all the ways that matter.
Tahani is human royalty from the Core Worlds, whose people pledged themselves to the Empire very quickly. She does her family’s philanthropic work to keep up appearances and try to best her younger sister, who her parents promoted to Crown Princess over her.
Eleanor Shellstrop is a Togruta from Coruscant. Her parents were the exact same sort of shitty as they were in canon, and she worked her way through the imperial academy… only to go into a job selling fake drugs to old people. She’s seen the atrocities of the Empire and decided, eh, if I do some small bad things it’s not the end of the world. I’m getting by.
Chidi Anagonye is a human male. He’s not sure which planet he was from, but he was a fourteen-year old padawan when order 66 struck. When he was ten, the master assigned to his group of younglings was anxiously considering leaving the Jedi Order to pursue a life with her girlfriend. Chidi convinced her to stay and that the Jedi life of no attachments was clearly the Most Logical Route, so Chidi decided that there was only one right answer. Ever. He just had to find it.
Jedi aren’t supposed to form attachments, but they don’t enforce that rule with younglings. No one in the Jedi Order is more beloved than a youngling clan’s teacher. Chidi and his friends swarm Master Teyana with hugs every time that she’s not teaching. She promises them that the Force has a place for them, whether they are chosen to become Padawans or not, and that everything will work out in the end.
Chidi studies as hard as he can to make Master Teyana proud. As he grows older and starts to be able to sense other people’s feelings in the Force, he notices that Master Teyana’s feelings are often… negative. They pervade the creche sometimes, distress and anxiety bouncing off the walls like soundwaves.
The rest of the younglings put up their shields so they can’t feel her and politely ignore it, but Chidi investigates. Whatever this issue is, Chidi wants to know. He wants to fix it. Every issue can be solved through the Force with the proper knowledge, right? There’s always an answer through the Force.
“We’re done for today,” she tells them, and then she
“Master Teyana,” Chidi says, “may I please speak with you?” She forces a smile.
“Of course, Chidi,” she tells him, “what is this about?”
“I feel your distress,” he says, “you’ve been thinking about leaving the Order.”
“Chidi,” she says, “it isn’t anything that you or the other younglings have done. I just-“ Her distress grows in the Force, and Chidi takes her hand in his. He holds it tightly.
“I want a family, Chidi,” she tells him.
“The Jedi are your family, remember?” he asks. She smiles at him softly, tears prickling at her eyelashes.
“We love you,” he promises, clutching her hand tightly, “please stay.” Master Teyana’s conflict doesn’t settle, but she kneels down on the ground and wraps him in a firm hug. He feels certainty in her Force presence.
“I’ll stay,” she promises, “you are family.” She lets releases him from the hug then, and pinches his cheek quickly instead.
“How could I leave your beautiful faces?” she asks.
“Master,” he says, feeling embarrassment flood through him. She smiles at him, and he feels certainty settle over her. She is staying. He can feel the truth of it spreading through the Force. Chidi feels a smile spread across his face, and suddenly- everything in the world makes sense.
“Master Teyana feels better today,” Uzo observes, “it’s less like she’d rather die than teach.”
“I did that,” Chidi says.
“She was thinking about leaving the Order?” Uzo asks, eyes widening.
“She was, but she’s not anymore!” Chidi says proudly, “she’s going to stay!”
“Everything can be figured out logically!” he deduces.
“Uh huh,” Uzo says.
“It can,” Chidi asserts.
Chidi suddenly feels every negative emotion flood through him, and his shields come crashing down. He’s hit with all the stimuli in the world.
“I have a stomach ache,” he says.
After her youngling class is broken up, Teyana Kin resigns from the Jedi Order to marry a fellow Twi’lek woman and adopt a daughter. Chidi Anagonye, recently promoted to Padawan, gets a stomach ache so potent that everyone in the Jedi Temple feels it.
Chidi’s master was a Togruta named Sila Mack. She had light green skin on her body and a white and navy-blue pattern on her montrals.
His anxiety made things difficult, and well. The Force is loud.
It’s hard to sort through the important information that the world around him is spitting at him, even as his master helps him learn to focus on his own feelings and hers.
“The Force is always so loud,” Chidi mutters.
“The Force wants to tell you things,” his master says gently, “but you do not always have to listen.”
“How am I supposed to find out what’s important?” Chidi says. If he wasn’t paying attention to everything, he might not have been able to figure out how to keep Master Teyana in the Order. Hyper-vigilance is key, isn’t it?
While Chidi is always nervous, his master is not. He feels her force signature shout run, and Chidi manages before his consciousness kicks in.
He runs, and he runs. Even as he hears the hiss of her lightsaber igniting and the blare of the blaster bolts. Even as he hears her cry out in pain and feels it through the Force, he runs. He runs and runs and runs until his lungs can’t take anymore.
He travels the galaxy as kind of a space hobo, doing ethical research to try to find out the best way to be moral. He might have been young when the Jedi Order was destroyed, but he was aware that it was flawed. He was a youngling during the expulsion and almost execution of Ahsoka Tano. He knows that the Order was wrong and he knows that the Republic was wrong, but he knows the Empire is wrong wrong wrong-er, and he thinks that if he can find the greatest system for how to live, then he will make it through this.
But as he travels the galaxy, he watches many planets fall under the Empire’s thumb and does nothing. He sits and he stews and considers the best course of action, but ultimately he does nothing. Naval-gazing as the world around him happens and people lose their lives and their freedom and his master’s dying cries echo in the back of his mind.
“You can’t always wait for perfect, Chidi,” his master tells him, “sometimes you have to work with what you have.”
“The Truth?” his master asks, “I do not know, young one.”
“The Force is always there,” she says, smiling at him, “but you do not always have to listen. Sometimes, you should listen to your gut.”
“You’re under arrest in violation of Imperial Proclamation 7763,” the trooper says.
“This is not the woman you’re looking for,” Chidi says. His voice takes on a cadence that he hasn’t allowed in years. He wasn’t even sure he remembered how to do a mind-trick after all of these years.
“This is not the woman I’m looking for,” the trooper repeats.
“You should, uh, look somewhere else,” Chidi says.
“I should, uh, look somewhere else,” the trooper repeats. Chidi shoos him away.
“Go away,” he says, “shoo.” Then, the trooper miraculously leaves.
“That was some witchcraft,” Eleanor says.
“Please stop,” Chidi says.
“I just saved your life,” he says, “and you’re putting mine in danger! Serious danger!”
“Hm,” she says, “I bet there’s a serious bounty on people like you.”
“What’s Imperial Proclamation 7763?” Chidi asks.
“Selling untested medicine,” Eleanor says.
“Stars,” Chidi says, “I- I can’t believe I helped you.”
“That wouldn’t be the Jedi way,” Eleanor says.
“My parents packed it up from Shili after the start of the Clone Wars and tried to make a go of it on Coruscant,” Eleanor says.
“Did it work?”
“Nope,” Eleanor says, popping the p obnoxiously.
“Well,” she says, “maybe we could do something.”
The smoldering remains of Alderaan grace the walls of the pub.
“My entire planet was just blown to bits,” Duchess Al-Jamil says, “how well do you think I’m doing?”
“Pretty un-dope,” Jason Mendoza says.
“Yes,” Duchess Al-Jamil says, “pretty un-dope.”
“Well, there’s a Rebellion out there, isn’t there?” Eleanor says, “I think that we should rebel.”
A Togruta con artist, a Twi’lek former imperial, a hick from Tattooine, a protocol droid, an Alderaani noblewoman, and a former Jedi Padawan.
What the actual fuck kind of group were they anyway?

I don’t know if you’ve seen The Good Place on Netflix, but I just want to say Eleanor is absolutely a pansexual and you might enjoy watching the show (it definitely makes the show nice to watch as a pan person too)
I’m not caught up, but I’ve seen it and she’s one of my pan headcanons :)) but it’s discouraging seeing tweets and posts on here with thousands of shares that say she’s canonically bi :/ (along with jake peralta and schneider, who I also headcanon as pan)

Seriously imagine meeting Eleanor Shellstrop in the real Good Place and asking her about how she knows the guy in charge like:
Someone: Is it true you know the head of the Good Place? The great and wise and powerful being who helped convince the Judge to save humans?
Eleanor: You mean Michael? Yeah, he lives in my closet.
Someone:
Someone: What.
Eleanor: I mean technically it's the green door that connects my house to his office, but he's always coming in and out, eating our snacks, taking naps on our couch, bringing me presents, tormenting my boyfriend, he's basically my live-in demon.

the way people act like The Good Place didn't have a bisexual lead and that it's baffllingly, somehow "queerbaiting," confirms for me that nobody has any god damn critical thinking anymore
like i understand the impulse to not trust a joke here or there, i understand the want for everything to be said out loud (because anything else feels like a cop out) but i need people to understand that the text of the work also needs to be able to speak for itself.
eleanor shellstrop, many many times, expresses explicit sexual attraction to female characters. this happens across all 4 seasons, with at least 3 different characters (if not more) multiple times, and is brought up both in joking contexts and in non-joking ones. she wears shirts with rainbows. she tells chidi that "more guys should be bisexual". like come on
i know the avoidance of the label "bisexual" has its own problems AS A TREND, but in this particular work it is literally undeniable that eleanor is bisexual. and you know what, it IS biphobia that people act like this is bad or unclear representation, all because her love interest for the show is a man. she continually keeps telling us, in her words, that she is attracted to women, but because she never turns to the camera and says, "also I'm an explicitly queer, bisexual character" people act as if we still need to have plausible deniability about it.
have we ever questioned a character being straight if they, continually, express physical attraction to people of a different gender? do we act as if that makes their feelings on the matter unclear if they don't say, "i'm straight" with their mouths? there are harmful trends in media in general that make me understand the caution A LITTLE, but the extent to which people will straight up deny that this is a queer character is harmful itself!! her story is not about queerness at all. she never has a discussion of queerness with other characters (except for the one moment when she tells chidi that more men should be bisexual, this is not subtle). this is a comedy show about ethics and philosophy that happens to have a bisexual lead where the plot has nothing to do with being queer, which is what people are always saying that they want! but then when they get it they throw a fit cuz no one held their hand through a basic 3rd grade level analysis.
i can accept people who have problems with this show's handling of it, i can accept that for some people it isn't good enough. but acting like it's not there, like it's "queerbaiting" and harmful just because she never says "i'm gay" is frustrating beyond belief. learn how to do any level of textual analysis before you get angry at the text for "not saying something" that is explicitly there.

reblogging this again because it reminds me so much of the theme/motif in these two quotes from the LOTR books (first is from fellowship, second from rotk)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and also basically the whole chapter of RotK called The Last Debate; going “yes, I know we will not be the ones to defeat the great evil we’re up against. In fact we may even die in the process of trying to fight it. However if our efforts are able to aid those who *can* defeat this evil, if we are still able to achieve any good, to stem the flow of evil in some spots, in some way, even if we cannot stop it forever; then it is still a worthy cause and we still have to try.”
It’s Eleanor Shellstrop in The Good Place thinking she is beyond hope but still wanting to try and affect change in her family’s lives; between the options of “try” and “not try,” it’s… she has to try even if she has no hope for herself. ó nen i-estel edain, ú-chebin estel anim.
i'm rewatching rebels s3 and i love love love how through Maul and Obi Wan, Ezra eventually comes to the realization that he and the Ghost crew will not be the ones to defeat the Sith. he isn't the chosen one, and he and Kanan aren't powerful enough to face Vader, or the emperor - but there are still so many people they can help! so they keep going, even though they know they won't be the ones to end the Empire
