we have always been here: documentaries about trans people
documentaries about trans people, starting in the year 1953. I don't speak to filmic quality or whether or not something is problematic, what matters here is simply the testimony and the stamp of existence (including in those where the subject matter is spoken about, rather than getting to speak for themselves)
(I haven't seen every one of these yet, so some of them have slightly shorter texts to go along with them)
while (as you'll see) most of these are US-based movies, they are from all over the world. I'd be curious about whether there are any focused specifically on the intersection of transness and disability, I don't personally know of any, although of many speak to issues with access to healthcare (for example southern comfort)
all the ones that have links connected to them are watchable for free
some of these can be watched for free on the archive, youtube, vimeo, many could do with a few coins thrown their way: many of the movies, for example the the aggressives can be rented on vimeo, transgender tuesdays is free on youtube but accepting donations for trans women of colour, lotus sports club is doing festivals currently and is accepting donations to support the team and the vulnerable trans (now men) who have had to leave it to find work, call her ganda is accepting donations to support the family's legal costs in bringing justice for their daughter
remember, finding the stories that have been graciously shared is one thing, supporting our community is the next step
glen or glenda (1953): the first known movie about trans people, a mixed-media semi-fictional account (US)
the queen (1968) (US): following drag-queens at a national beauty pageant two years before stonewall, including footage of crystal labeija (US)

transexual menace (1996): snapshots of the melting pot of trans life in new york, from famous faces, to protest, including several immigrants to america from columbia, west africa, japan, hawaii, and germany (Germany/US)
you don't know dick: courageous hearts of transsexual men (1997): about several trans men in different walks of life, who chat about their experiences, politics, and history (US)
the brandon teena story (1998): a documentation about the murder of brandon teena, using testimonies from the people involved (US)
southern comfort (2001): follows robert eads in the final year of his life, before he died of initially treatable ovarian cancer (US)
superstar in a housedress: the life and legend of jackie curtis (2004): a portrait of jackie curtis, one of the earliest punk pioneers, by (mainly cis) people who knew her (US)
screaming queens: the riot at compton’s cafeteria (2005): a rare documentary of the time featuring the voices of trans activists, about the pre-stonewall compton's cafeteria riot (US)
beautiful darling (2005): a portrait of candy darling (one of the trans woman superstars of the 60s) from the perspective of the (mainly cis) people who knew her (US)
the aggressives (2005): centered on black studs, mascs, and trans men, and more, exploring the term "aggressives," race and gender, filmed over five years (US)

Kensaku’s Thoughts on Roppongi Division
Tumblr media
Kai Quinlan
“Hm? Oh, it’s the dead-faced mixed guy. I don’t get to meet with people like him often so I sort of instinctively felt the need to make him crack a smile. Talk about a total failure though… He stayed deadpan throughout the whole thing. Not even an annoyed glare or look of confusion. Reminded me a lot of when Asato-kun was a little kid, just no signal inside that dome. I just hope this guy isn’t burdened with something awful. I’d like to see him crack out from his shell, even just a little!”
Mireya Quinlan
“I’m not too familiar with Mireya… A club and casino owner sounds pretty fun though! Places like that aren’t really my thing, unfortunately. I’ll take a chill bar like the Eagle’s Nest over any fancy nightclub. But hey, if Jakurai-kun and his team are feeling adventurous, maybe we can take a peek into there? It could be fun to see Jakurai get even more loose for one night, haha!”
Zakari Hiroya
“Zakari! He’s a riot… In more ways than one from what I hear. I first met him in Shinjuku when he was getting a health checkup from Jakurai. According to him, Zakari-kun is the type to take these daring risks. Which is pretty hard to believe just looking at him! Then again, knowing the people I know, you never know who’s a normal Joe and who’s the adrenaline junkie.”
“It is fun having someone open to hearing my jokes though. It’s a nice change of pace from all the joking around I do with my coworkers… Speaking of which, he’s been so sure that I, Jakurai’s closest friend can’t get him to laugh. Between you and me, it’s the dumb medical puns that make him crack. So long as it isn’t about one of his patients… The look of disappointment from him was painful!”
Private Party
“This is a pretty interesting lineup… I’d have to guess that since Mireya-san is Zakari’s mom, then Kai would be his dad? So a new family team? Well, I hope they have fun doing this D.R.B. business together. I would hate to see them fall apart over some stuff being thrown around on stage… Heck, I don’t think I can manage to say anything harsh about them. They’re probably one of the nicest teams we’ve been able to review… Aside from a few other teams that I might have some biases for.”

Re that post about Kenzaburo Oe, you mentioned the term 1968 kids, talking about him and Hayao Miyazaki, how would describe that group? I get the gist of a certain kind of utopian artist from that generation, but I haven't heard it before, wondered if there was any other traits/anyone else you'd put in that group?
Definitely worthy of a fuller write-up, and I wish I had a concrete "unifying" source for all this, but Japan had a rapidly growing leftwing radical movement in the 1960's. The Anpo protests, a huge series of demonstrations against the US-Japan Security Treaty (which gave the US military bases in Japan) from 1959-1960 were the launching point, and they built on growing movements of unionization, environmental activism, and anti-militarism. It culminated in the 1968 seizure of much of the campus of the University of Tokyo by the 'Zenkyōtō' student activist faction, which was part of a global wave of student activism in 1968.
And like in so many places, 1968 was this movement's high water mark - they were awash in factionalism, police broke up their occupation, and support for them plummeted in the face of the violence they both initiated and recieved. In the 1960's members of these factions thought that they could seize political power, change the state, all that jazz. By the 1970's that dream was dead.
Most political-style artists were part of this movement, and shaped by that break - as political opportunity faded, they saw in their art a way to express their concerns, visions, etc that the political system would not. Since I am an anime person, this is where a lot of leaders of 70's and 80's anime would emerge from. Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata were both animators at Toei Animation during this time, got heavily involved in the union efforts there - Miyazaki was the union's general secretary in 1964 - and were avowed Marxists. Mamoru Oshii was similarly active, participating in the Shinjuku Riot over the Vietnam War and identifying as Trotskyist-Left. There is an entire genre of Japanese cinema called New Wave which was part of and shaped by this movement - director Shūji Terayama would be a notable for films like 1971's Throw Away Your Books, Rally in the Streets, which I will mention because its creators included theatre director and music composer J. A. Caesar (real name Takaaki Terahara) who composed the soundtrack for Revolutionary Girl Utena, for the anime connection. There are of course hundreds more I could name.
I think their themes are well known - what united them as a 'movement' was A: they all mutually saw themselves that way, and B: they are the last generation to believe that their art could truly change minds. Miyazaki is making Nausicaa because he actually thinks it will turn people away from techno-fetishization, stuff like that. Creators after that make works about society, but they don't view them the same, their ambitions are different - insight vs activism, or reform vs revolution. Of course these creators will age and change - Oshii for example did so, he would famously criticize Miyazaki of being a typical "Anpo man" in feeling like his films were responsible for society and the world, saying such responsibility was itself a form of fascism (its Oshii, he says shit like this all the time). In his criticism you can see the identity of the 1968 generation reflected back. They were more-or-less wrong, of course - art can change things, but not that much, and it turns out politics is way more complicated then their visions could contain. But I respect their conviction dearly and find the art they made to have something irreplacable due to that conviction, so its worth remembering.

[Housamo] Chapter 13 - 2
Tumblr media
[Note: My character's name is Ito, ignore it lol]
[I have decided not to translate the flashback from the beginning, it was just recounting what had happened in chapter 12. You won't be missing out on anything.]
[Students]
"Goodbye, sir."
Evening looms over the Shinjuku academy. The ring of the bell and the departure of students were the sign of the day coming to an end.
[Sandayu]
"Right, see you all in the mornin'. Take care of yerselve's out there, 'aight?"
Time has passed since the outrage and rioting of the students in this academy during those initial moments.
-- During those times, the Shinjuku academy's dormitories were in such disarray that it was near impossible to get even close.
According to the police's official statement, in one of the videos, there was a shadow moving about, a student that was the target of the communities agitation.
Based on the experts that have reviewed this video, [There is still public unrest left unsettled] caused by one particular individual and so must be brought back alive.
Flock of student's awakened to an uprising and demanded that this person be brought back and face the righteous indignation that has occurred.
After that, many from this righteous movement posted the said video and circulated it all over the deep web for exposure.
The new authorized infrastructure was hacked, revealing personal information out to the public in broad daylight in order to expose said person.
The police investigating has distributed it to their company platforms, and as instructed, every video then be deleted for good.
Sympathetic voices from the district's Nakano Academy stated there was unauthorized access to the victim.
The school wanting to regain their reputation, confronted the mass of angry audiences and was greeted with an astonishingly short conclusion to the situation--
Tumblr media
[Hogen]
"-- That shouldn't be possible. Hey, headmaster, are you saying we should turn back!?"
The Kiou police academy. An institution that trains police officers to protect Shinjuku and maintain order.
Hogen, in a fit of rage has him tapping his shoe against the ground and letting out an angry roar back at the recruits he brought along with him to the scene.
[Fellow Officers]
"W-welcome back, Officer Hogen, sir! Officers were contacted for a meeting discussion for a long term leave--"
As far as tokyo is concerned, the head of the academy has already alerted the chief of the police station in shinjuku of the recent update.
And since the Kiou's police station's headmaster and chief, Daikoku has the legal authority to take charge--
[Hogen]
"-- Tch."
[Fellow Officers]
"U-um?"
There is a hierarchial difference akin to a tall wall between Hogen and Daikoku, as to whether arrest charges were to take place at all.
For that reason alone, crucial evidences were needed by Daikoku by no means necessary, even if it meant wagging your tail for all to see.*
(*Being obedient and patient.)
Stepping in behind the inter-auction hall, in addition to confiscating, ended the day in darkness.
Since then, Daikoku was always ahead of Hogen, and whenever he managed to show up in one way or the other, all reasons were thrown out of the window--
[Hogen]
"That bastard, Daikoku… No, Okuninushi!"
Hogen remembered. Just a few days ago back in Akihabara--
Tumblr media
[Leannan Sidhe]
"… Stop, just stop, Sanat Kumara!"
[Hogen]
"… Hmph, as if I'm going to engage in a fight. This guy--!?"
Those opposite of him should've begun elevating from their spot by now through Hogen's technique, but the other parties mirror duplicates in a way to compete back.
As if it's reading through Hogen's mind for something. Body between body, new to new tied together and eventually emerging as one.
There is a gap between their faces shown, a look of disbelief. A complete parallel to Hogen's, and his muscles start to break into a sweat.
[Hogen]
"… Hm?"
"It's.. Chief Daikoku! Just how long have you--"
[Akiha Gongen]
"Ah-- Sir Ōanamochi-no-Mikoto!"
[Hogen]
"… What the? Did you say Ōanamochi-no-Mikoto!?"
Hogen recalled the stories from the other world, Takamagahara.
The former sun, Amaterasu of Takamagahara was an ex ruler of that world's earth--
Then, it was ruled by none other than Ōanamochi-no-Mikoto back in his younger days--
[Hogen]
"Daikoku, you were Ōanamochi-no-Mikoto…! To think you'd finally show your true colors--!"
There it bore- A gap. Sanat Kumara didn't let the moment pass by.
[Hogen]
"… Damn it!"
"Is that.. [The divine hand]!?"
Hogen exclaimed upon seeing the other world's magic skill, realizing the reason as to why he chose to conceal himself back on Takamagahara.
[Leannan Sidhe]
"Wait.. Wait, Sanat Kumara! I told you to stop--!!"
[Hogen]
"Kch--!"
Hogen's sword at that moment sliced through-- and three of Daikokus men where their silhouettes was just at the back alley suddenly disappeared.
[Hogen]
"Guh, to think I'd be suffering such an embarassing defeat. I almost had that girl involved…"
[Leannan Sidhe]
"Sanat Kumara.. Why..!"
[Hogen]
"I'd like for you to tell me the whole story, Leannan. That man named Sanat Kumara--"
[Leannan Sidhe]
".. He's an important friend of mine. He's not a cold hearted person as you would think."
"But back in the border, he just suddenly changed and stopped--"
[Hogen]
"… Hmph. A person changing in order to achieve something…"
Tumblr media
[Sandayu] "…"
Back at the Shinjuku school, it was after school sessions that the teacher Sandayu decided to take a tour around.
His well practiced smile that he shows to the students from time to time was a definite change needed in order to achieve his goals in this school.
However, within him is a turmoil in regards to being suspected, and Sandayu's fear is visible within the cornor of his eyes.
[Sandayu] ".. Ah, that's right. That's it, there's no turning back now."
The time during those student's act of violence is a ticking bomb that are now competing against one another out of hate, but it shouldn't blow out of proportions anytime soon.
Sandayu's gaze turns to the window, outside and above the sky.
[Sandayu] "… There's a storm brewin'."
Tumblr media
[Kengo] "… Tch, this gloomy weather pisses me off. Honestly, I told you to come with me already."
[Shiro] "How strange, just this morning I was just looking up the weather report and that today was supposed to be clear as day…"
["It's like a typhoon is coming."] ["The weather forecast shouldn't be wrong."]
[Kengo] "Speaking of irritating, remember the school's whole mood? Everyone was going around and looking for something.. Just what's up with that!?"
[Shiro] "It was back during the revolting, just suddenly, most of the connections leading to the origin seems to have back tracked and disappeared…"
At that time, the mob among the students seemed to have grown exponentially that a temporary absence in school was needed for some counseling sessions.
As for why they're targeting you specifically in this incident has been closed, new deep injuries were sustained and it wasn't just limited to one person.
["I am just as shocked as you are."] ["Don't mind it."]
[Kengo] "Hmm, that's what I'm talking about, partner! No need to get yourself down on every single thing!"
"Back in my days in the Kabukicho alley, I was struck by an iron pipe out of nowhere."
[Shiro] "Do not underplay the current situation to that particular scene, Kengo!"
"… Anyway, no matter what happens, so long as you're safe then we're glad, Ito."
[Kengo] "I'm also happy that you're safe, too, but listen here, partner. I won't let anyone kill you, you hear?"
["Well, the two of us are still here, aren't we?"] ["By the way, where are the others?"]
[Kengo] "Ah! After going through all the trouble in getting Ito back to us, why is it that it's just us three?"
"Ryouta, Toji, Hanuman, Moritaka and Tadatomo aren't here."
[Shiro] "Well, Kengo.. There's an explanation for that."
"Listen well, alright, Ito? … Now, let us start."
"We… No, every single guild in tokyo, including the [three big guilds] just now has now deemed us a threat and plans to expose us."
"That's why we've sent everyone to every guild out there for a collaboration and form an alliance at the immense danger looming above us."
"The genociders, outlaws and us have gone our separate ways, and so that just leaves Ryota and us."
"Our opponents are from Ikebukuro, Aoyama cemetary, Roppongi, Hongo, Kabukicho, Asakusa, Ueno and other opposing guilds."
"… At this very moment, every guild are as furious if not divided in the midst of chaos concerning your current state of affairs in being labeled as a terrorist."
"Speaking of the three big guilds that are antagonizing us, there is not a place we can go to and are awaiting our inevitable collapse."
["Me? A terrorist?"] ["Chaos due to inner divisions?"] ["… Continue, Shiro."]
[Shiro] "We need to rely on the newest network on our electronic app as many of their judgements are being carried out by it."
"We and our guild cannot do this by ourselves in scouting every mark on the neighborhood whether they are enemies or not, what we need is an actual friend who--"
"For example, in this part of the app's start up… Just now, in this section is where you'll know where the three of us are."
Just as Shiro has explained, the application's map is illuminating three in the screen.
Over that section highlights: [Affiliation: Summoners] and a few additional information of that individual.
[Shiro] "However, these days, electronics are the only way to overcoming hackers from getting into anything."
"Someone's bound to notice if we both go to the same guilds, but if we were to go to different ones then it would at least give us some peace of mind."
"Given that they could always eliminate us and take any valuable information at any moment that is."
"That's why Ryouta and everyone else is having a hard time forming any contact with anyone in other guilds."
"If Ryouta and the gang were to still be the Ryouta and friends we knew--"
"So, we still have time to make plans today to establish so that we don't look like we're falling behind."
["… Huh, that was it?"] [Geez, pull yourself together, Shiro!"]
[Shiro] "That's right, from the very beginning, we're always lending you out to someone and just a few day ago as well due to that event that happened. We've only noticed now that one of us has yet to make a mark."
"The three big guilds number one are likely the invaders who are [Individuals uniting as one for the same goal, and that is to conquer] kind of mentality they possess."
"Ito, if you could remember what you've seen so far in regards to the events that happened a few days ago, we may find a ton of information to what'll come next--"
"Amidst of it all, there could be an [erosion of personalities] the prime reason for the appearance and disappearance?"
"You asked in regards to the invader's guild master, I believe there could be a link to said [fusion]…"
["That's right..!"] ["So that person has some sort of brainwashing skill."] ["… No, I think it'd be best to wait a bit more."]
[Kengo] "Hm? Huh, wait just a sec, Shiro. Are you really sure about what you've been saying?"
[Shiro] "…. Kengo."
Tumblr media
During that time, Ito was attacked by a group in school--
[Kengo] "Didn't you say that the video's the one who fanned the flames in giving that group any ideas?"
"Not only that, Ito also met the invaders' group or whoever they are--"
"But that wasn't the only incident that happened, even prior to those moments you said it yourself.."
[Shiro] "… Normally you'd just fail and end up with failing marks, but I didn't think you can be sharp minded, Kengo."
[Kengo] "Wh-what-- Asshole!"
[Shiro] "… So, that's that, Ito. We went to Akihabara to ask that he lend his doors open to you, alright?"
"I'm talking about about Enigma, the artificial intelligence of the Akihabara guild, the one who you've said have met on cyberspace in the deepweb."
["… Right. You see--"] ["Just what did you guys talk about…"] [(I remember when we talked to Enigma with the others..)]
Tumblr media
[Enigma] "Once again, my copies have been hostile towards you and so I deeply apologize, master Ito."
The artificial intelligence called Enigma, who is the original one bows down apologetically in front of Ito.
[Enigma] "Let me rephrase that we, the Akihabara guild and it's members all unanimously in favor of forming an alliance with the Summoners."
[".. T-treat us well."] ["Are you sure? What if we betray you?"] ["I believe you, Enigma."]
[Enigma] "As far as this artificial intelligence is concerned, it is an order that must be done. Also, there is no reason for you to betray us."
"Unless you say that my copies are wrong, then accepting the invaders proposal would've been better."
"If there is one wish that I must have, then it is for you and my creator, the guild master of Akihabara to someday meet, even just once."
"My master was once in this very room, his now digitalized brain living within the deep web. Before disappearing before my very eyes."
["Could you tell me what kind of person he was?"] ["His name and appearance if you don't mind?"]
[Enigma] "My master [Snow White], was often associated with this children's tale and together with how he looked, to even the clothes he preferred wearing."
"His sacred artifact, [The bomb of logic], I believe is some sort of electrical virus from what I can understand."
["You make use of your copies like slaves."] ["Seems like a poisonous apple to me--"] ["Is there really an electric virus like that?"]
[Enigma] "I have countless of copies and still they are multiplying, intruding and transforming to said subjects. It is in our [authority] to eliminate the logical structure of said target."
[Tindalos] "Oh-? I didn't know about that. That's a rather dangerous thing to have!"
"However, that's such an impressive artificial intelligence. But what kind of creator would have such a thing?"
[Enigma] "… That is all what my master has said. It is stated that it's purpose was to destroy something."
"According to the main objective, it was constructed to dismantle and scatter the fumes so that a path can be created for a new age."
"I am that very sacred artifact who possesses such an ability. There is no other AI out there that's compatible."
"However, before this approach could come into fruition, my master then disappeared before my very eyes."
"… Master Turing is the one who created it and is the master of this very guild."
Tumblr media
[Shiro] "Ito is fated to collaborate with the Akihabara guild master now, but--"
"Akihabara's guild master alone is cooperating with the south, in other words, the invaders guild itself."
"Kengo, I've given doubt to the solution to this predicament. Think about it, the power of two opposite forces, who are our enemies no less…"
["Merging and fusion…"] ["Dismantling… Scattering…"] ["… Master of the south.."]
[Shiro] "… What' wrong, Ito?"
You recall your teacher, Mononobe who's eyes are red as it can be and the pitter patter of tears dropping as you watch him get dismantled into three.
The second time you saw him was in the deep web, where he spew curses and words of hate at you.
[Mr. Mononobe?] ".. I depise you, Ito. I would've been better off without you entering in my life--!"
"I was wrong about you. Give it back.. Give me back my ring..!"
["What did he mean by all of that."] ["That's the first time I've ever seen Mr. Mononobe act like that."] ["Was the elements that I saw on our teacher could've been that..?"]
[Kengo] "Still, for what it's worth we can't just retreat from our enemies now, can we?"
[Shiro] "That is.. Unless Ito and the others plan to sabotage it, would you, Kengo?"
[Kengo] "I mean, if there's going to be a fight that's about to happen then don't start one in the first place if you plan to back out anyway."
[Shiro] "That's true, I could care less who wins in it-- … Kengo, Ito, wait."
".. Kengo, you sure are smart witted today. Did you eat something bad?"
[Kengo] "Hah!?"
[Shiro] "Rather than waiting for a winner.. What if we were to.. Create a diversion? Maybe there's still time to make one?"
"Let's just say if we were to proceed with the previous one where we wait for the winner, then what do we do with said winner? We can't be sure if we can time it-- Hm!?"
At that moment, Shiro and the other's application started to vibrate along with a piercing sound.
["W-what was that sound just now?"] ["Is this--!?"]
[Kengo] "I wouldn't go saying that was the app just now."
[Shiro] "… That was tokyo's metropolitan alarm. An emergency warning regards to heavy rainfall--!?"
Tumblr media
[Masanori] "Well then, gentlemen, or should I say my fellow invaders. At last, our plan is coming into practice, the start of the second era."
Over the Roppongi bridge are the visible heavy clouds that carry rain, moving at such fast velocity and forming what appears to be a strange anomaly.
As if he knew beforehand, Inumura Daikaku Masanori gives his further instructions with ease.
[Masanori] "Our morning sun, at last, the time for our revolutionary objective has come."
"It is in our rights as invaders that this tokyo-- Be revolutionized."

MC4: I think I won't crossdress in the foreseeable future.
Moritaka: MC4?! Why do you suddenly talk about crossdressing?
Shiro: You know that on the day you got sick, Shinjuku Academy was having a school festival, right, Moritaka?
Moritaka: Oh yes, I remember! I heard that there was a bit of commotion and police was involved.
MC4: "A bit"? It was a full-fledged riot!
Moritaka: Wow, really? Did you get caught in the crowd as well? That must've been very chaotic.
Shiro: Actually, Moritaka, MC4 was the cause of the chaos.
Moritaka: What?! What sort of thing did you do, MC4?!
MC4: I was just doing my job participating in the crossdressing contest! The next thing I knew a lot of people came after me!
Kengo: (walks in) Huh, they dare makin' a ruckus in our turf.
MC4: Don't say that when you're one of those people! You went like a mindless beast at that time and you almost undressed me forcefully with those hands!
Moritaka: Kengo?!
Shiro: (adjusts glasses) Kengo, I know MC4's insanely hot in those yukata, but you have to have self-control...
MC4: And what's with your remark, Shiro?!

Movies I watched this Week #118 (Year 3/Week 14):
My 3rd re-watch of Lawrence of Arabia, David Lean’s magnificent, all-male epic and the movie that Steven Spielberg had seen more than any other film. It’s so grand that the nearly 4 hours spectacle opens with 4+ minutes of orchestral music prelude on a dark screen and includes an ‘intermission’.
It got me to realize that most all movies (maybe because of the economics of movie-financing) always show deference to authority; The influences they represent, whether government, military, religion, civil powers, or simply ‘the big man’, the rulers are always accepted as masters.
🍿
The Garden of Words, my second anime ever, and coincidentally also my second by Makoto Shinkai (After ‘Your name’). A melancholy and poetic story about a 15-year-old aspiring shoe-maker student who keeps meeting a woman skipping work on a park bench at the beautiful Shinjuku Gyo-en gardens during the raining season. Gorgeous visuals of nature and rain.
The Wikipedia page for this film is nearly as long as the one for Obama!
🍿
3 more terrific debut films by young female directors:
🍿 For some unclear reasons, I’ve seen a large number of Parisian high school dramas recently. Spring blossom is one of the best. A gentle drama of a shy 16 year old girl who falls in love with a 35 man she sees outside a local theater.
And like Quinn Shephard’s ‘Blame’, it’s twice as impressive, because it was written by the talented Suzanne Lindon when she was only 15, and she directed it and starred in it before she was 20. Je l'adore! 8/10.
🍿 The Hive, my first film from Kosovo. Another on my growing list of “Debut films directed by female filmmakers”. The “first film in Sundance Festival history to win all three main awards – the Grand Jury Prize, the Audience Award and the Directing Award – in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition”. Based on a true story, it tells simply but touchingly about a war widow who started a small business, making homemade Ajvar and empowering the women in her village. Highly recommended. 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. And of course, reminiscent of the Macedonian documentary ‘Honeyland’. 8/10.
🍿 Rye Lane, a cute new rom-com about two young black South London strangers who meet at random and spend the day getting to know each other. Fresh and original.
🍿
My 7th by Finnish master Aki Kaurismäki. Every time I watch another of his movies, I get elated. There is nobody who make movies like him, he’s one of a kind. The man without a past, the second of his “Losers” trilogy, opens with a cinematic gut pinch and doesn’t let go until the end. My favorite of all his films so far?...
The trailer. 9/10.
🍿
The Hollywood Reporter Critics put out a new list of their ‘50 best films of the first 21 years of the 21st century’, and I decided to go through the ones I haven’t seen yet.
First was Far from Heaven, my 4th tragedy by Todd Haynes. A precursor to his masterful ‘Carol’, this is another Douglas Sirk-inspired melodrama of oppression and unrequited desire in middle class America of the mid 50′s. Drenched in luminous colors over all (except of the scenes of illicit dangers, in the gay bar and black cafe), and accompanied by another expansive score, it’s a devastating tale of the price of conformity. The husband who can’t control his homosexual urges, and the wife who falls for a black gardener are doomed, and their lives will be shattered. The poor players had simply nowhere to go. 8/10.
🍿
‘Today I learned’ about ‘Elite Panic’ describing the “behavior of members of the elite during disaster events, typically characterized by a fear of civil disorder” and the shifting of focus away from disaster relief towards implementing measures of "command and control".
New order, my third memorable film by Mexican auteur Michel Franco (after the terrific ‘Sundown’ and the disturbing ‘April’s daughter’) describes a society collapsing, the exact moment when the shit finally hits the fan, when the riots on the TV screen cross over and knock on your door. It’s a brutal and unforgiving story, ugly, violent and without any sentimental sympathy. Shocking anarchy escalates quickly when the pressure gets too much.
When the revolution comes down, it will bring some serious bloodshed. No wonder the greatest boogieman the ruling class warns us all about is “Class Warfare”. The most distressing film of the week - 9/10!
🍿
To catch a thief, Hitchock’s romantic thriller. The Good: Grace Kelly on the French Riviera, the ultimate glamour of the lifestyles of the rich and famous at Cannes and Nice, Hitchcock’s first (?) use of helicopter shots and modern car chases. The Bad: The genre roles & sexual politics of the husband-seeking unmarried young woman would not fly today.
I watched it solely because of this clip.
🍿
2 with Brigitte Fossey (of ‘Jeux interdits’):
🍿 “...The square is mine!...”
I forgot that she played the grown-up Elena in Cinema Paradiso, one of Ennio Morricone’s most popular movies. And yes, without his magnificent score, the 3-hour long nostalgic trip to the heart of cinema, would not be half as enjoyable.
The question that was not well-answered was: Why did he not bother to visit his mother for 30 year? (Re-watch).
🍿 The happy road, a mediocre 1957 children comedy about 10 year old American boy and French girl, who escape from a Swiss boarding school, and hitchhike to Paris. Directed by and starring Gene Kelly, falling for the girl’s mother. 3/10.
🍿
Inside, the new Willem Defoe survival thriller. He’s an art thief who breaks into a hi-end NYC penthouse of a wealthy art collector, intending to steal 3 paintings by Egon Schiele. But the security system traps him inside, and he’s unable to escape for many months. Captivating hi-concept and one-trick film, but a bit too long. 6/10.
🍿
...”Never forget how much he loved you, Kubo”...
After being seriously obsessed with everything ‘Coraline’ all of last year, Adora moved on to Laika Studio’s next stop-motion animated story Kubo and the two strings. A Japanese-inspired action story about a one-eyed Samurai son who creates magical origami figures from his 3-stringed shamisen. But it was as if all the pretty parts were combined by an AI-engine. 4/10.
I will introduce her next to ‘The Iron Giant’, and ‘Isle of dogs’.
🍿
First watch: The green room, one of the last few François Truffaut films I haven’t seen yet. In it, he plays a somber 1920′s journalist obsessed with death who builds a shrine to everybody he had lost. I love his human directing style, but this was a confusing mess. 2/10
🍿
RIP, Ryuichi Sakamoto X 2:
🍿 In remembrance of his passing I started re-watching Bertolucci’s ‘The Last Emperor’, but to be honest, I got bored after 30 minutes; I blame the less than HD version of my pirated copy. So maybe I’ll try it another time.
Instead, I went back to my of favorite ‘Black Mirror' episodes, and the only one he composed the score for, Smithereens. It was directed by the same man who did my other cherished story ‘Hated in the nation’, and was also about online media frenzy that spirals out of control. This ‘Tyranny of the Screens’ parable received mixed reviews, because it wasn’t futuristic enough, but for my money it is a tense thriller on par with the best of them. 10/10.
Sakamoto’s dark score is subtle and minimal. You have to strain to notice it. Perfect!
...”This is my last day!”...
🍿 Psychedelic Afternoon, a 2013 animated short, featuring David Byrne, and released to raise money for children who survived the 2011 tsunami.
🍿
‘Mad men’ is one of the few TV-shows I've seen, and I’ve seen it 3 or 4 times (including once last year). “Hazel” of YouTube ‘Dream Dimension Productions’ analyzes one “Perfect Scene” from Season 3 finale “Shut the door, have a seat”.
A terrific breakdown, which got me to watch it again, together with a few more.
Extra: Her ‘Netflix has a content problem’, which I also agree with, as I was attempting to avoid 90% of all their content.
🍿   Talk to her, my 3rd unsatisfying film by Pedro Almodóvar (after ‘All about my mother’ and ‘The human voice’). A twisted story about two unappealing men who befriend each other at a clinic where they both care for comatose women. His editing choices and scattered direction, constantly focusing on unrelated detail in every scene turned me off. Some artistic perversions (like a silent film clip of a tiny man entering a giant vagina) notwithstanding. I guess I’m not a fan. 4/10.
🍿   2 more by Noah Baumbach (both with Adam Driver):
🍿 The last film I saw this week was also the best one:
I started watching the new Adam Driver dinosaur fantasy ‘65′. but it felt so stupid the moment Adam Driver opened his mouth, that I had to switch it off within 5 minutes. Instead, I turn to Marriage Story again. An absolute masterpiece, so painful and so true, for all divorced couples and parents of children of divorce. (That 10 minutes long scene at the apartment was raw! - Screenshot Above). 10/10 deservedly and without any reservations.
(And now I must see ‘Two for the road’!)
🍿 (Actually, I ended up with his uneven While we’re young, which didn’t measure up to that. The milieu of hipster millennial poseurs and Brooklyn wannabe documentary filmmakers was uninteresting, and I also can’t stand Ben Stiller.)
Still I will look for the rest of his movies I had missed.
🍿

"BATTLE BATTLE BATTLE" (from Hypnosis Mic) - English Adapted Lyrics
My adapted lyrics for the @hypmic-battlex3 project!
youtube
DOPPO:
'Scuse me, sorry, pardon me sir, but I'm getting real sick of you dissing my ass
I'mma step up and knock you down and dump you right into the trash
You think you're a big shot, but I think not, I ain't a corporate cog
You're just a dog chasing pennies at the slots
Relying on your luck, you're dumb as fuck
With your weak rap game and not even a dollar to your name
My name is DOPPO, my beats are hot though I don't think you can deal
You can fake your poker face, but my flow is for real
DICE:
you think you're something with your job and your suit and tie
This is rap, office rat, you better step aside
Think your flow's real? Hah. It's real funny
Laugh my way to the bank I'mma say it point blank cuz I'm out here to make money
Living on luck is what I know, everything I risk is all my own
Salaryman better stick to the rule book, better watch your tone
I live my life, I'm Dead or Alive and I'm gonna win the bet
That I'm not gonna be some corporate little pet
HIFUMI:
Are you done? I'm getting tired of your rambling
if you want to play around go back to gambling
You’re so broke it’s almost making me sorry
But your friend outta 1910’s another story
Phantom, think you’re handsome? Well you're dead wrong
Looking dead and gone like the garbage you write, you're way outdated
That's right, your threads are faded like the ink in your book
So, go do something 'bout that antiquated look
GENTARO:
I get it, I get it, I get what you reveal
How you say what you feel, I like how you keep it real, now
Let’s work together, you and I, maybe think about it.
Ha. That was a lie. I doubt it.
Whatcha got to gain, thinking you got class?
Cuz where I got a brain, you got a champagne glass
You gotta learn from your past, MC Gigolo
Not that a third-rate host would ever know.
MATENRO:
The Battle Battle Battle, the Battle Battle Battle
We’re the wolves of Shinjuku, we’ll run right on through you
FLING POSSE:
The Battle Battle Battle, the Battle Battle Battle
We’re the kings of Shibuya, gonna bring it on to ya
ALL:
The Battle Battle Battle, the Battle Battle Battle
The Battle Battle Battle, the Battle Battle Battle
Gonna make it happen
Less talking more rapping
The Battle Battle Battle, the Battle Battle Battle
JAKURAI:
Settle this here and now, your rhymes are ludicrous
I'm gonna shut you down, don't act like I'm new at this
Your flow don't mean a lot to me, you might need an endoscopy
To free myself of your disease and cancel the cacophony
(Or) maybe I could give you surgery, you'll see
It'll be a quick fix just a zip up your lips
But I'll take it slow. Stitch by stitch by stitch
And if you choose to struggle through it,
I'll see you in the I.C.Unit
RAMUDA:
O.M.F.G, quit acting like you got this
You're honestly a hot mess, I won't deny it
Don't matter how you try it, you can't keep me quiet
'Cuz I'll writhe and riot and I'll cry out in the middle of the night
I'll be like "la da da da!" annoying right? Right? Right?
I don't think you'll win this fight.
So, give up, call it a night
My kill rate is high, but my patience is very low
worst case scenario, so I think you better go
DICE:
I don't think you realize
You wolves are gonna to get euthanized
GENTARO:
Got one more thing to mention,
Listen up and pay attention
DICE:
Matenro should sleep with the fishes if they can't do disses,
You know what I mean?
GENTARO:
I do, I think they're through
It got me feeling a rush of dopamine
RAMUDA:
it's been great, not gonna lie
I won't forget the fun we had
but y’all better say goodbye
So me and my Posse can head where the ladies are at
DICE:
a roll of the dice
GENTARO:
a writer who lies
RAMUDA:
nice combination!
FLING POSSE:
life and living it up is our motivation
DOPPO:
Oh my god, shut the fuck up,
You’re full of shit every way that you say it
HIFUMI:
We’ve had enough of your messing around,
If you’re in the game, then you’d better play it
DOPPO:
Your end is near, it’s clearly evident
In fact, you three aren’t relevant
HIFUMI:
Your posse ain’t shit, but we’re not gonna settle
We’re in to win this division battle
JAKURAI:
Your every offense Is a path to hell, it’s that of your own creation
The trouble you’re in is akin to a sin, Your posse may possibly need sedation
DOPPO:
We’re in control
HIFUMI:
With body and soul
JAKURAI:
And we’re doing God a favor
MATENRO:
A city without any hope will need a savior

Papasan Choi died on Feb 23, 2023. Boonville was founded by him but taken away by Sun Myung Moon
Updated March 5, 2023
Tumblr media
▲ Papasan Choi (aka Choi Sang-Ik, Choi Bong-Choon and Masaru Nishigawa) and Mamasan in Tokyo.
Sang-Ik Choi was born in 1925. At the age of two he had moved to Japan with his family, returning to Korea when they were forced to repatriate in 1945. His father gave him the name Bong-choon when he was in his twenties. He realized the significance of the name only after joining our church in April 1957 and thereafter adopted it. During his missionary days in Japan, he went by the Japanese name Masaru Nishigawa.
Mutual hostility contributed to Korea and Japan not restoring diplomatic relations until December 1965. In 1958, severe travel restrictions existed between the two countries. Talks recommenced in December that year only after Japan dropped its long-standing claim to about 80 percent of all property in Korea and its claim that Korea was the beneficiary from 1910-1945. Antiquities had been spirited away from Korea. Japan called this archeology; Korea called it theft. Any concessions on Japan’s part led to riots in Tokyo. Even in 1965, in both countries, riots and histrionic statements by politicians preceded the ratification votes.
He planted the seeds for the Unification Church in Japan from 1958 to 1964. Because Korea and Japan did not have diplomatic relations, he was arrested upon arrival in July 1958. Escaping confinement, he made his way to Tokyo where, after six months of struggle, he got a job as a salesman for a watch shop in the Shinjuku section. During the morning he worked. In the afternoon he witnessed. Once a week he rented the second floor of the shop to preach. On Sunday, October 2, 1959, he conducted the first Sunday service. The Unification Church of Japan commemorates this as its founding day.
Sang-Ik Choi was married in the 36 couples under the name of Bong-Choon Choi. His wife, Mi-Shik Shin, had been expelled from Ewha Woman’s University in 1955 during the UC sex scandal. The young women did not want to testify in court. However, Moon admitted to the judge that he had lied about his age to avoid the military draft. He was sentenced to two years in jail, but was released after a few months after some “special arrangements” were made. Papasan Choi was always reluctant to talk about how his wife was “womb-cleansed” by Sun Myung Moon.
Tumblr media
▲ Papasan Choi with Japanese members
In 1964 he was deported from Japan to Korea; the following year he traveled to the US where he was known as Papasan Choi. He established a community in the Bay Area, but there was conflict between his group and that of Young-oon Kim who taught the Divine Principle in a more orthodox way.
Tumblr media
▲ Boonville, also known as New Ideal City Ranch
Boonville was purchased in 1970 by Papasan Choi. He and his wife, known as Mamasan, led the Re-Education Center which he had founded in San Francisco. Mamasan’s role in the community was significant. Yeon-Soo Lim (or Onni Durst as she was later known) ran an outpost of Papasan Choi’s community in Berkeley.
Tumblr media
Papasan Choi’s secular teachings, The Principles of Education, were the foundation for the teaching methods used in the Bay Area and Boonville by Mose Durst, Kristina Morrison Seher and the Creative Community Project team.

“Furthermore, the International Re-Education Foundation had owned some land in Boonville, California, sometimes known as [the New] Ideal City Ranch, which it turned over in a simple transfer of title in 1974 to the Unification Church.” (page 111) Rev. Sun Myung Moon (1978) by Chong-Sun Kim. University Press of America
In December 1974 Yeon-Soo Lim was married to Mose Durst by Sun Myung Moon in Pasadena. From then she was known as Onni Durst. At the same time Moon made her the Unification Church leader of California (excluding Los Angeles). In this way she inherited the Boonville property. Papasan Choi was sometimes described as a failure by leaders of the Creative Community Project, however, that had not been the case.
Link to an extended report on Papasan Choi and the early UC in California.
Papasan Choi made a public declaration about leaving the Unification Church on January 15, 1987 in Saitama, Japan.

Iori in RIOT Land
Iori Matsunaga flickered open her mail app, to only close it just as quickly a second later. Some weeks earlier, she took part in RIOT MUSIC’s “Virtual Artist Audition Vol. 1,” now just waiting to hear back. She thumbed the app open again, and thumbed it shut. They had signed Cocoa Domyoji and Saki Ashizawa, two talented young singers and looked to add more artists to their roster. Iori too always had the knack for singing but she never had time to treat it as more than a hobby. One more time, she checked her phone.
Tumblr media
Not the type to harbor self-doubt, Iori signed up for RIOT MUSIC’s Virtual Audition. A lack of experience didn’t mean a lack of ability, and she hungered to sing more. Stardom never particularly interested her, but singing as a means to reach people all over the world, well Iori’s gut told her she’d be a natural at that. If the team at RIOT MUSIC thought so too, she would be set! Though, Cocoa and Saki had set a high bar at this point. Iori continued to peer into her phone, as if the power of her gaze would manifest an email on the spot.
She started peering back into the reflection on her phone screen of her own emerald green eyes. They dripped with a determination that, until she met her own eyes, she didn’t fully realize. Iori Matsunga needed to sing, make music, and perform on the stage! She would have the power to captivate and heal with her singing if she took herself seriously and honed her talents. A burning sensation welled in her chest when, with almost comically-divine timing…
Tumblr media
It came! An email from RIOT MUSIC appeared at the top of Iori Matsunaga’s inbox, as if summoned by a magic spell. Iori tapped it open and days later found herself in the RIOT MUSIC offices, discussing recording times and rigorous practice schedules. Iori knew this kind of opportunity wouldn’t come a second time, and she vowed to take her duties seriously, excited about who her voice would reach next.
A Brief Highlight of Iori’s Brightest Moments (So Far!!!)
Iori Matsunaga’s First Song With RIOT MUSIC
youtube
Iori Matsunaga came out swinging for her RIOT MUSIC debut, with a faithful and loving cover of JUDY AND MARY’s iconic “Sobakasu.” A stripped down song that allowed her vocals to shine, RIOT FANS could instantly hear what still makes Iori such a special voice.
RIOT MUSIC 1st Live “Re:Volt”
youtube
Just six months after her debut, Iori would join Saki, Cocoa, Yuka, and Suzuna for a massive live concert event in Yokohama! Meeting face to face with the fans that had already begun to treasure her voice and music was a sensation Iori will remain forever grateful for.
Iori Matsunaga Releases 1st Big Original “Cocktail Lights”
youtube
Focusing nearly exclusively on her singing alone since she had joined RIOT, Iori now felt like she had the experience to venture into making music herself. When a producer at RIOT MUSIC suggested going for a Neo City Pop sound, Iori jumped at the chance; A song like that might slip outside of Japan and reach ears all around the world!
RIOT MUSIC’s 1st Mini-Album “RIOT OF EMOTIONS”
Tumblr media
While the RIOT MUSIC family would sometimes perform together, each artist more often than not did their own thing, so Iori Matsunaga was particularly glad to get to work with her co-workers on the collaborative RIOT OF EMOTIONS album. In addition to taking part in the group seeing “One for Everything” she got to drop the following original on the album too!
youtube
Iori Matsunaga Drops New Original AND Hosts First Solo Show On The Same Day
Tumblr media
Iori Matsunaga was ready to take the next step, in all honesty she had been for a long time. In early 2022, she finally had her chance to show off to the world what she can do on her own. She held her “Full Throttle !!!!!” solo concert smack dab in the middle of Shinjuku, where a group of her biggest fans thoroughly enjoyed  an intimate performance from their beloved singer. A cherry on top, she dropped an original of the same title on the same day!
youtube
Iori Releases Another Original 1 Month Later
youtube
Still burning on high from her big birthday month, Iori Matsunaga had enough energy left in her to quickly follow up with a new single: “Kawataredoki no Hashirikata.” In the video, she sprints like a woman possessed, possessed by her own desire to reach as many people as she can in this world!
RIOT MUSIC “Re:Volt 2022”
Tumblr media
A year after Iori Matsunaga first got to perform onstage with her fellow RIOT singers, they got together again this time with Miona Sumeragi in tow, and decided to host their biggest event yet! Invading Shibuya, Iori and co  brought their A-Game to a live-house jam packed with fans!
RIOT MUSIC “Blitz Wing Fes 2022 ~Blue Sky~”
Tumblr media
Iori Matsunaga revelled at the idea of forming the Blitz Wing sub-unit with her senpai Cocoa and Saki. Two years they had largely performed separately, and Iori bubbled thinking about the possibilities mixing their strengths would manifest! The group made their on-stage debut in Ikebukuro, Summer 2022.
Iori Matsunaga’s 2nd Anniversary Live <City Lights>
youtube
To celebrate completing two full years with RIOT MUSIC, Iori Matsunaga hosted a free live streaming event to the delight of over 20,000 fans across the world. She sang her heart out, and the archive remains up to this day!
Much in store for Iori Matsunaga and the rest of the RIOT MUSIC Virtual Music Agency! Stay tuned next week for a look into our mysterious, ever-talented oddball Yuka Nagase!

It Happened So Fast-
•2•
“AHH”
The red giant backed up and put his hands up in the air and waved them frantically. “<Wha-hooooahh! Calm down. Sorry, sorry, didn’t mean to frighten you! That’s wasn’t very manly was it. Gah, bad first impression, I guess, ha.” The redhead rubbed the back of his neck in embarrassment.
“<You’re Red Riot. The~huh~ the Red Riot>” Yes, yes you were gaping like a fish in a desert. How could a man be so tall?! He is literally towering over everybody here. What is he like 7’?! Does his bones hurt? What the hell is a Bakugo... Oh, he staring at me. How long have I been staring!
“<Uhmm>” Red Riot waves his hands in front of your face, “Helloooo, anybody, homeeeee?” His voice sounds so velvety and heroic. “<I should really work on my introductions...this happens way more often then it should. Let me write that down so I don’t forget.>” The Pro Hero stares down at you, “<I’ll give you a lift, Y/N, since you’re like in a trance. LET’S GO TO MY OFFICE! I CAN SHOW YOU PICTURES FROM MY UA DAYS AND SOME COOL AWARDS. SO MANLY!>” With that your new boss lifted you up and threw you over his broad shoulders.
He continued to talk Y/N’s ear off with you not understanding much of what Red was saying but, appreciating it either way seeing as it was helping you unwind from the earlier shock. As the pair walked through the agency, Y/N took in the place. Even though, the place is a big on inside as it was on the outside, it wasn’t as daunting as you thought it would be. The people and heroes around here are smiling and waving towards you. You were handed a balloon with a crudely drawn face (it was meant to resemble you) with a many , “おめでとう” thrown your way as you and your boss entered the elevator.
“<Here we go! Can you stand?>” Red sets you down on your feet with ease as he presses the button to his floor. He drums his fingers across the steel doors then turn towards you with one of his award winning smiles. You swear it melt the steel in these elevators, it’s so bright. “<Not going to freak out on my again are you? Y/N>” He tested your name on his tongue, “<Am I saying that right? Ah, I forgot to ask, would you prefer Japanese> or English?” He look at you thoughtfully.
“That’s right. I have not been responding have I?”
“Nope! You have not but, that’s cool. I have a great feeling about you so, I know you’ll be a strong backbone to this company!”
All you could do was stare back in a dream-like state. Look at you! Shame! Getting all star-struck and dumb even being in this man’s presence. Tsk tsk. Better keep this conversation rolling so it doesn’t get awkward. “You were right..”
“Huh, right about what?
“My name. You said it correctly. Ha, pretty funny too, I’m used to people pronouncing it wrong.”
“Well, that’s not very fair to you. It’s your name and it’s a manly name!” Red puffed through his nostrils and smirked.
You bowed you head to hide your blush, “ Thank you, Red Riot.” Why are you acting like this it is so NOT professional at. All.
Red Riot let out a boisterous laugh that you swore shook the elevator, “You don’t have to refer to me by my hero name you know? Just call me Kirishima or even Kiri. Honestly, anything is cool as long as I don’t get called sir. That makes me feel old. Red Riot is reserved for field work though.” With that he winked at you.
“Oh, then, thank you Kir-!”
D I N G
“We’re here!!” He yoinks you from the elevator into his suave office, “ Hasa De Lo Eiji!!”
You heard Sero’s voice speak up, “Casa De La, Ei, casa de la...” He sitting upside down in one of Kirishima’s office chairs surfing his phone looking through Twatter. You thought he was ignoring you until he started waving and kicking his lanky legs excitedly.
Denki was just spinning in Kirishima’s main seat, “<YOU FOUND THEM, MAN?!>”
“<Well, they wasn’t exactly hiding and don’t think there’s many people of their skin tone here in Japan, Denk...>” You only caught a bits and pieces of their conversation, making you giggle a bit.
Denki looked over to you, “Oohoo, you like that, huh? Say how about we get to know each other better? One on one? There’s this really cool place in Shinjuku I’ve been dying to try. Would love to have someone to try it with. Being alone is such a bummer~” While Denki was distracted, Kirishima took his chance and sat in his friend’s lap causing Denki to sputter and attempt to push his taller, “built like a German, concrete home” friend off of him. Shame, you were actually about to take Denki up on his offer. You did want to see what Japan had to offer and it did suck to be alone sometimes.
The day continued as you four began to talk about you, their hero work, the past and, what was in store for the upcoming week. Soon, Denki and Sero left to attended to their own business (they went to Shinjuku), which just left you and Kirishima. You though it would it be awkward, however, it strangely felt like home. This was different from what your country’s media always portrayed of him: Hardy, cold and relentless. Even though that’s what drew you to him, this Kirishima was a nice change of pace as well.
“Hey, hey, Y/N you’re staring again.” The redhead smiled.
“Didn’t mean to, Kirishima. It’s just that you’re so different in real life! I hope you don’t mind me saying but, though you were this boulder of destruction.”
“Not too disappointing, I hope.” He leans his head in his hand, laughing a tiny bit.
“No! Of course not!”
“I’m joking, I’m joking!”
You both just laugh and it dies downs leaving a comfortable silence betwixt you again.
“Well, you got the job for sure!”
“Really t—that’s it?!”
“Yup”
“No strenuous questions?”
“Nope”
“No previous references or written letters from previous employers?”
“Nnurp” he audibly pop his lips to add emphasis to his negatory.
“No-“
“Do you want the job?”
“Of course! It’s just that yo-“
“Then you have it. I have a good feeling about you! I learned to trust my instincts. Obviously, yours brought here to freaking Japan-“
“Well, my friend sent me the email...”
“YOU put in for it and YOU got it. Enjoy it :)”
You rubbed your chin in thought. Starting to overthink the situation and your new way too laidback boss. Was this a mistake? Did I make a good call? As if he could read you mind, Kiri laid his firm hand upon your shoulder, “Let’s get some grub! I can take you home afterwards!”
With that, you’re new life began and with each day you grew more confident in your choices. You learned so many new tips and tricks, learned about and met new people (some more despicable then others), it was like a dream come true. First, you needed Kiri told hold your hand at the beginning, which made you doubt yourself from time to time. However, you got better and faster, already your talent to the max.
The only thing you hated doing the most were the public conferences. They always asked the same questions hoping for different answers or asked about way too personal questions about the heroes within Kirishima’s agency. Questions that would make the man on moon blush. However, you always seemed to Beyoncé your way out of their scandalous questions and steer it right back to where you wanted it.
Of course, your work never went unnoticed or unappreciated. The agency always made sure to make feel wanted and needed. Hah, Bakugo even came in and tried to recruit you for his own agency, in front of your boss. It’s all just been so crazy. It’s almost insane to think it’s almost been a year here. You even remember your old life. To think, you thought the email was a joke. What would I be doing if I never answered it... No point on dwelling on it you guess.
You hear heavy footsteps coming toward your door.
*Clink Click*
“Hmm, I thought these lights shut off automatically... strange” It was your boss! “Let me flu-Oh! Oh, you’re still here?! Y/N , it’s practically morning right now. Why are you still working?”
“You wouldn’t know I was still here if you weren’t here yourself so, Red, what’s your excuse?” You looked up at him playfully smug.
You don’t remember if he’s been flushed from rushing into the office or for his new nickname but, he looked away and swore he tripped on his words when he spoke. “Other than it being my agency, Y/N so, MY responsibility, I like to go for early morning runs. You could probs just call it conditioning from school days. It helps keep my mind from overthinking I guess.
“Overthinking? About what?”
“Heh, what not about” There was a strange unplaceable tone in his voice. He said that sentence barely above a whisper but, you caught it. Kirishima look back towards you and beams. Is he- is he putting up a mask?! Not wanting to strain your work relationship you choose not to press him on the matter. Turning back to your desktop to continue your work until Kiri blocked it. Damn his thick man body!
“Could you please move,Kirishima.”
“Nuh-uh, not until you tell me why you’re still up here working at this ungodly hour.”
You leaned into your seat giving up on trying to move him, you sigh and then smile to yourself not sure if he could see it or not, “ Fine, I’ll spill. I work this late because I love this job. Nowhere else has given me this opportunity and I’m so thankful. I’ve felt so lost for the longest and about gave up on myself. I work this late because I love my friend, they were the ones who even let this opportunity land in my lap even though, they could have easily taken this job. They had more experience. I love my coworkers. Ha, I’ve never been so overwhelmed by support by so many strangers. It’s really emotional and I would hate to let them down. I do all of this because I love and appreciate you, Red... you’ve always stayed by my side and gave encouragement when I needed. Lacking in my work would be like spitting in your face and I would hate for that to happen...”
You keep your eyes shut for a few more seconds soaking in what you just said. It’s been eating at you forever. You’ve long forgotten about how Kiri was like a barnacle stuck to screen and I guess he did as well, seeing as was standing up straight, mouth opening and closing and fiddling with his hands. You look up at him, “That’s why I’m here. You don’t have to worry over me. I’m not a child. Plus, I got YOU and your HERO amigos/amigas on speed dial.” Sero’s been trying to teach you Spanish 💀, it is not working.
“...Do you mean that? You love me?”
“Of course I do, Red.” Kirishima drawn closer to Y/N, “Why wouldn’t I?”
“I just thought it would be too soon to make a call..”
“I love you , Kirishima...”
“Y-you could call me, Eij-“
“As much as I love Sero and Denki! You all mean so much to me!”
You noted that Kirishima seemed to deflate at your next sentence and even took a step back, “Red, you okay? Need water?”
Kiri shook his head, “N-No I guess I’m just coming down from my runners high! Ha, it always makes me a bit woozy y’know.”
“Oh~”
“Yeahhhh. Welp! Just dont Forget it’s your day off tomorrow okay. No coming in! No matter how much you //luhhhh// us.” That was weird. Luh? ,”Oh I also have a question. The hero gala is coming up soon and we have to bring a +1. Would you like to come with me? I’ll cover your clothes~!”
“The Hero Gala?? Are you sure wouldn’t you want to bring another, I don’t know, hero?”
“Well, I could but, I asked you. You were my first choice either way. If it’ll help you could think about it like good PR.”
As you always do, you think about it. Unlike the other times, your mind was already made up.
“Yes, Red, I would love to go.”

if we dont get a shinjuku prequel game i will riot. i DO want to see game master uzuki. i DO want to see shiba and hishima's divorce. i DO want to get to know the shinjuku reaper family dynamic. i DO want to see neku working with sho, coco and tsugumi, i DO want to learn more about tsugumi as a character and i DO want to see neku's even deeper character development that clearly happened and is present in the way he talks and presents himself now, development that very obviously had to do with taking his acceptance and affection for others to the next level in beginning to utilize everything he learned with joshua to form a friendship with sho and coco, really driving home that there are things to love in literally everyone,
