hi hi i loveeee your blog
tips on how to grow followers and get popular posts?
thank you sm & this is a great question!!
I first downloaded tumblr last july and posted quite consistently from august to october, I gained a few followers during that time however most of my posts struggled to gain more than 20ish notes, I eventually ended up deleting the app, literally just because my phone had no storage left, but then I re-downloaded it in january (with only 100 followers) and started to post consistently usually multiple times everyday and now only 3 months later i'm at 1.1k ♡
I don't really think (unless you blaze your posts, which I never do) that there's any one particular way to ensure that your post reaches a high number of notes, I think it's more just about consistency and what kind of tags you use and stuff (I'll tag this post with the ones that I'd usually use) so that your content gets onto the right side of tumblr
the content that I personally post consists of collages/ mood boards, lyric videos, relatable stuff, poetry analyses, and the occasional girlblog, I also used to post a lot in different communities (such as 'lana cult', 'angelic girlbloggers' etc), I don't do that as much anymore but that's a really good way of meeting people and potentially gaining followers
I hope this post helped somebody 🤍🪽

Safe & Sound ~Rafe Cameron~
Tumblr media
summary: at a boneyard party, rafe catches a random touron drugging y/n’s drink when she’s not looking. they aren’t friends and they’ve never said a word to each other so why would he decide to save her? 🤷🏻‍♀️
word count:3.6k
pairing: rafe cameron x reader
warning: mention of drugs, fluff
a/n:  kinda sorta canon rafe, but also sorta not. idk. had this saved in my drafts since i started this writing blog & thought it was about time to finally get it out on the site
masterlist
"We're throwing a party at the Boneyard tonight & JJ is insisting that you come." Kiara followed y/n around her dad's store as she continued stocking shelves.
"I wish I could, Kie. But I'm swamped here. My dad's got me closing up tonight & I can't ditch my responsibilities again. Not after what happened last time." y/n narrowed her eyes at her best friend.
"It's not my fault you fucked JJ in the storage room and didn't lock the doors. That was your mistake."
"You said you'd cover the counter for me."
"Oh, shit. You're right. I'm sorry." Kiara stopped her friend. "I'm sure your dad will make an exception for this. It's a big night. It's your best friends birthday."
"It's not your birthday." y/n chuckled.
"Okay, you're right. But we can tell him it's JJ's birthday. I don't think he knows when that is."
"My dad is not the biggest fan of JJ. Hasn't been since that night, you know. But maybe we can use Pope. He loves Pope." y/n placed the final can on the shelf. "I'll call him right now."
After conversing with her father for less than a minute, y/n and Kiara were closing up the store and heading to the Boneyard.
"Hey, you made it. I was starting to think Kiara had failed to get you here when she texted me earlier. Glad your dad let you go early." JJ smiled when y/n approached him. He handed her a drink and she took it quickly.
"He only let me go because I told him it was Pope's birthday." she smiled. "I'm quite surprised he fell for it. You'd think since he loves Pope that'd he know when his actual birthday is."
"Guess you were wrong." JJ took a sip of his drink. "Why didn't you just tell him it was my birthday?"
"He's not a big fan of you right now. Especially not after the other night."
"That was a fun night."
"It really was, wasn't it?" y/n looked around the boneyard and only recognized 4 people. "Geez, did you only invite tourons or something?"
"No. We invited pretty much all the teenagers on the island, even the kooks." JJ looked at her. "It was Sarah's idea."
"Oh that's just fantastic. One more group of people I don't want to see right now."
"What do you mean?"
"Tourons have been bugging me all week at the store. Stupid fucking rich brats." she shook her head. "All I want to do this weekend is hang out with you, Kie & Pope." y/n tipped her head back and finished her drink. "I need another one."
JJ handed her another cup of alcohol before the words were even out of her mouth. Y/n accepted it and continued to suck down the beverage.
An hour later, she had lost track of JJ and was dancing by herself. On her 5th beer, she looked around the party, noticing the kooks were already filling in the empty spaces, making the party more occupied than it was before.
On the other side of the party, Rafe stood alone with a drink in his hand. Aside from his friends, he only saw 2 others he recognized at the party. The rest of the partygoers were tourons.
He saw JJ with some random girl and then he spotted y/n dancing by herself. The girl looked like she was having the time of her life and that put Rafe at ease. He's never said a word to her and their separate groups never got along but he's seen her around the island before and he thought she was cute for a pogue.
While he watched her dance to the beat of her own drum, he also watched all the male tourons gather around her. Most of them were just there to watch her but while her head was turned to talk to one of them, another one hovered his hand over her drink and dropped something in. Rafe noticed this but didn't want to make a scene around y/n so he watched the touron very closely. When he was alone, Rafe approached him.
"What did you put in y/n's drink?"
"Excuse me?"
"What did you put in that girls drink back there? Did you drug her?"
"I don't know what you're talking about, bro. I don't know who you're referring to either. I'm just here to have a good time."
"You think spiking the drink of some girl counts as having a good time? If so, you're just pathetic." Rafe stepped closer to the guy, only now realizing how big the dude was. He took a quick look around but couldn't find y/n anywhere. "Where is she? Did one of your friends take her somewhere, huh?"
"What are you talking about?"
"You put something in y/n's drink and now she's gone. So are some of your friends. I swear, if anything happens to her, I'm going to find you and it's not going to be good for you."
"Like I'm afraid of you." the touron chuckled and went to walk away, but Rafe beat him to it. Adrenaline took over all of his instincts and he punched the guy in the face and when he doubled over, Rafe kneed him in the face. Luckily they weren't around a whole lot of people around so if he wanted to, he could make an easy escape.
Unfortunately for him, the touron called for his friends. They gathered around Rafe and one of them held him back while the main touron began throwing punches. The crowd began to grow and the remaining tourons were keeping Kelce and Topper from helping their friend. It wasn't until a gunshot rang throughout the air that the tourons let Rafe go and ran off. Kelce ran to help his friend off the ground and Topper looked to see who had fired the gun. He was not expecting to see JJ lowering it.
"JJ, what the hell is wrong with you, man?"
"Are you seriously getting mad at me for saving Rafe? I didn't have to fire the gun, you know."
"I know. Sorry." Topper helped Kelce with Rafe and looked at his friend. "What the hell happened, dude?"
"The guy...tried to...drug..."Rafe closed his eyes.
"Who did he try to drug?"
"Y/n....he tried to drug y/n."
JJ stormed off and Topper assumed he was going after the touron. Kelce put Rafe in the back of his truck and took the keys from him before climbing in the driver's seat. Topper got in the passenger side & looked back at Rafe.
"So, why did you try to beat up a guy who was so much bigger than you, just because of y/n?"
"It's not right that he tried to drug her." he shook his head. "She's kind of cute though, isn't she?"
"How much did you have to drink, man?" Kelce questioned.
"A few beers. Why?"
"You just called a pogue cute." Topper chuckled. "You're clearly drunk."
"So what if I am?" Rafe looked out the window and wiped the blood from his cheek. "Maybe she's not so bad."
On the other side of the island, JJ was at y/n's window. He had shown up at her place a few minutes ago with blood dripping from his lip and a bruised cheek. After he heard Rafe say that the touron drugged y/n's drink, he found the guy and tried fighting him.
He was lucky enough to walk away with only a few marks and he made it all the way to y/n's bedroom. She was in the bathroom getting the first-aid kit so she could clean him up.
"So, are you going to tell me what kook did this?" y/n smiled as she re-entered the bedroom. She set the kit down, pulled out the rag and poured alcohol on it.
"It wasn't a kook. It was a touron." he winced when she wiped the blood off his lip. "He was huge and had like 4 friends with him."
"Why did you think that fighting them would be a good idea? Are you an idiot?"
"Not entirely." he looked up at her. "After he and his friends beat up Rafe, Topper asked why it happened & Rafe mentioned that the big guy drugged your drink. So I went after him."
"Rafe fought him too? Why would he do that?"
"Something about seeing the guy put something in your drink. I guess it set him off and he thought he could handle 5 guys at once."
Although it sounded strange to her, y/n couldn't help but smile a little. "Is he stupid? Why would a kook risk his life for me? Especially one that has never said a word to me. That's ridiculous."
"I don't know. Maybe he thinks you're hot or something." JJ just shrugged and leaned against the pillow on y/n's bed. She put the kit back in the bathroom and laid beside him. "He wouldn't be wrong to think that though. You really are hot."
"Thanks, JJ." she looked at him and smiled. "I need you to promise me something."
"What's that?"
"Never get in a fight with someone who's bigger than you, just to protect me."
"Okay, fine." he chuckled. "I just really care about you."
"And I care about you, JJ." she smiled and cuddled up next to him. "Thank you for being you."
"No problem, y/n." he smiled as they both drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, y/n woke up and JJ was already gone. She thought back to what JJ said last night and her mind couldn't help but picture what Rafe must've looked like after the fight.
After her shift at the store, y/n headed to Figure 8. She was hoping to find Rafe and talk to him but she had no idea which house was his so she walked to the country club where JJ worked. He wasn't on the schedule today so he would not be helpful, so y/n decided to wait for a little bit.
After an hour of waiting and not seeing Rafe or his friends, y/n was about to give up and go home. That is, until she spotted a familiar head of blonde hair.
"Hey, it's Topper, right?" she called out to him. He was with his mom but he stopped to look at y/n anyway, ignoring the look he was receiving from his mother.
"Yeah, that's me." he excused himself from his moms company and walked over to y/n. "What's up?"
"I was just wondering if you could tell me where Rafe was. I need to talk to him."
"I'm not sure he would like for me to divulge that information to just anyone." Topper looked her over. "But you're not just anyone, are you?"
"No, I guess I'm not." she looked down at her feet.
"He's under the docks. Likes to go there to look at the water & to be alone. It's kind of the only place his dad doesnt know about." Topper went to walk away but turned back. "If he asks, I did not say a single word to you. Got it?"
"Yes sir." y/n smiled as she parted ways with the Kook. She went down to the docks and sure enough, Rafe was exactly where Topper said he'd be. As she approached him, the shaking of his voice caught her off guard. He was talking to himself.
"Are you kidding? You're never gonna be good enough. Not for your dad. Not for your friends. Not even for any girl. Especially not her." he muttered. y/n looked at his back and sighed. Rafe must've been having a struggle with his own mind.
"Rafe?" her voice startled him, causing him to jump & almost land in the water.
"Jesus! Didn't your mother ever tell you not to sneak up on someone?"
"As a matter of fact, no. My dad did mention it once or twice though." she looked out at the water just as his gaze fell on her.
"So, what brings you to Figure 8?"
"Had to come talk to the guy who supposedly saved me last night."
"Oh. You heard about that?"
"Of course I did. JJ came to my house all beat up, talking about how he had to kick the crap out of the guy who tried to drug my drink. Then he told me that you were the one who initially tried."
"Yeah. I tried and failed to kick his ass. He called in his friends."
"Well, that's just not fair, is it?" she turned to him with a smile. "So why did you do it? Why would you go after a guy who spiked my drink?
"To be honest, I don't even know. Something just came over me, I guess." he shrugged and kicked at a can that the waves had washed up. "I mean, we've never even talked before right now. It was weird."
"Weird indeed." she bit her lip and looked around. A few moments of silence passed before Rafe decided to speak again.
"I was, uh," Rafe paused for a moment. "I was wrong about you."
"What do you mean?"
"I thought that since you were a pogue & such good friends with JJ that you'd be so much like him. But you're not. Maybe you're crazy, but the good kind of crazy." Rafe's frown turned into a small smile. But it vanished quickly when y/n looked at him. He thought she didn't see it but she definitely caught him.
"Rafe Cameron, are you trying to compliment me?"
"Yeah. Maybe." he chuckled. "Yeah. I was."
"Well then, how did it feel to compliment a pogue?" y/n raised an eyebrow and gave him a look.
"It was definitely a different feeling." he looked at her. "But honestly, I liked it. Especially because someone like you definitely deserves to be complimented."
"Okay. Truth time." she crossed her arms and leaned against one of the beams supporting the docks. "Did you try to beat up some touron last night for spiking my drink because you thought it was the right thing to do, or did you do it because maybe there's a part of you that thinks that everything your dad has told you your entire life is a lie?"
"I did it because," he took a deep breath and leaned next to her. "I felt some kind of strange feeling, kinda like I had to protect you & only you."
"Rafe, that's actually kinda sweet. Especially coming from you." y/n smirked and looked at him. The moonlight was reflecting off the water and for the first time that night, she could actually see the damage the tourons did to him. "Oh my goodness. Your face looks like shit. Did you even try to clean it up?"
"Kind of." he shook his head. "Kelce tried but apparently I wouldn't let him. So I tried to do it myself and as you can clearly see, it didn't work out so well."
"If you want, I can do it. I'm really good at patching people up. I am friends with JJ, after all."
"Okay. But can we do it at your place? My dad will kill me if I show up with a pogue." he immediately looked at her, thinking his words might've offended her. "Not that it's a bad thing. But you know how my father thinks."
"I get it. I understand." she looked at her watch. "My dad should be out right now. Let's go to my place." y/n walked away and waited for Rafe to follow her. When she felt his presence next to her, she continued her way to her house.
"Let's take my truck. It's a lot safer." he opened the door for her and she gave him a quizzical expression. "Just get in."
"Yes sir." y/n looked at him and got in. "I'll give you directions when we get onto that side of the island."
Minutes later, y/n was sneaking Rafe into her bedroom & sitting him down on her bed. She left him alone to go get the first aid kit from the bathroom & he glanced around her room. Everything was neat and organized, totally against what a pogue really was. When y/n returned to her room, Rafe was standing with his back to her, a picture in his hand.
"Is this you?" he turned to her and let her take a look.
"No. That's, um, my mom when she was my age. I found it when I was going through her old stuff." y/n set the photo & box down. Rafe instictively sat back on the edge of her bed as she pulled a chair up to work on him.
"What happened to her? Did she leave you?"
"In a way, yes." y/n dabbed the cloth on the dried blood around Rafe's lip, causing him to wince a little.
"What does that mean?"
"She didn't leave us by choice. I barely knew her though because she died when I was 3. Cancer." she reached behind her with her free hand to grab the anti-biotic ointment, applying some to another cloth, and rubbed it on his neck.
"Oh. I'm so sorry." he looked up. "I barely knew my mom too. But she didn't die. Just decided to leave us. And for a pogue who only wanted the money she had."
"That's horrible." y/n looked over the bruises and shook her head. "No wonder your dad hates pogues."
"He's the only one who really does. Sarah has John B & Wheezie just doesn't like to judge people on their economic or social class. Neither does Rose, sorta."
"And what about you? What do you think of pogues?"
"I think I was totally wrong about you guys. Here you are, fixing me up, even though the kooks have been horrible to you your entire life. And then there's JJ, who I thought was a total prick, who fired a gun to scare off the tourons who were kicking my ass last night. You're really not that bad."
"Neither are you, Country Club." y/n smiled to herself as she remembered the nickname Barry gave Rafe once. When Rafe chuckled at the name, it made y/n smile even more as she rubbed the last of the dried blood from his face. "There. Feeling any better?"
"Yeah. Thank you." he stood up and walked slowly to the door. Just as he was about to leave, he stopped himself. "This may sound weird but would it be at all possible to stay a little longer? I-I'm not ready to go home just yet."
"Of course. Make yourself at home." she walked over to him and smiled. "I'll go get us something to drink & maybe I'll get some food. Any preferences on either?"
"Just a beer, if you can get one. And if you have any kind of snack, I'd appreciate it. I don't care what it is."
"Got it. I'll be right back." she grabbed the first aid kit and walked out of the room.
Rafe took another look around the fairly large bedroom, taking in everything he didn't notice before. There were fairy lights hanging from her ceiling and another string of lights were on her wall with little polaroid pictures attached at every clip.
He looked at all of them and it unknowingly brought a smile to his face when he gazed upon one of her and JJ smiling like idiots. They looked like they were having fun, the type of fun Rafe wished he had the freedom to have.
Y/n returned a few minutes later with 2 beers and a bowl of chips. She handed him a bottle and he accepted it gratefully. "Do you wanna do something or do you want to sit here in silence while we eat and drink?"
"You ever play Never Have I Ever?"
"Yeah. JJ & I play it all the time." she smiled. "You wanna play?"
"Sure." he took a sip of his beer and started the game. For the next hour, Rafe & y/n went back and forth, slowly getting to know each other better. The rounds started out normal and innocent but the longer they played, the more the questions got personal. "Okay. Last one. Never Have I Ever....wanted to hook up with someone in this very room at one point in time."
y/n looked at him and took the last sip of her beer while Rafe finished his drink as well. They stared at each other for about 10 seconds. It was like each one of them was daring the other to do something they could possibly regret later.
To y/n's surprise, it was Rafe who took the initiative and made the first move. His lips collided with hers and the kiss was everything y/n was definitely not expecting.
Soft, sweet & gentle. Loving, even.
When they pulled away from each other, Rafe had a smile. It was genuine and it was probably the happiest he'd been in a while. Y/n smirked at the boy in front of her.
"Damn, Cameron. Where'd you learn to kiss like that?"
"I have no idea." he chuckled. "I could ask you the same thing."
"Well, if you really like me, I'm sure you wouldn't like the answer."
"I think I know the answer." he looked back at her lips and it took all of his willpower to not kiss her again so soon. "You're lucky I really do like you, y/n."
"I really like you too, Rafe Cameron." she smiled and went against what her brain was thinking, following her heart instead as she pulled Rafe back into a very tender kiss.
It was everything both of them had subconsciously wanted for so long. They were both safe & sound as long as they were together.

How NOT to DIY Marker Storage
Tumblr media
Over the past couple of weeks, I put up a total of 4 image posts on my Ko-fi documenting a journey in trying to DIY a new storage solution for my Ohuhu markers.
I already had more to say about the process than would fit in the image captions, and was already sort of planning ahead to compile the information in a more digestible format for a singular public reveal [the individual posts were Ko-fi-Members-only since in the moment they were more like "behind the scenes" content and I usually reserve that kind of thing for members anyway] and considering how things turned out, I think ultimately a long blog post like this compiling the images and properly fleshing out the story only makes sense...
So let's go ahead and start by recapping the first post I made:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Original Caption:
Hey it's the project that's been getting the bulk of my attention this week! Some people over on r/Ohuhu figured out that "mug organizers" work well & similarly to the original Ohuhu markers bags for storage, & after some research, my brain caterpillars insisted I could probably DIY something structurally similar from the oodles of cardboard boxes we have around the house and save a whole $20. Pro Tip: Don't listen to the caterpillars, just buy the mug organizer. 😅 I'm going to finish and use what I started because I'm in WAY too deep now, but I have definitely put more than $20 worth of effort into this thing already...and I'm not even done yet. 🙃 And for the record, I will share more info/make a blogpost about how I put this thing together once it's finished, I just had too much to say for the image caption length and the sooner I can get back to work (mostly just need to finish painting and then any last-minute/decorative touches after that now) the sooner it will BE finished!
Oh if only Past Mystic knew!  So a little more background on this situation that I didn't have room to explain in the post caption:
For those that don't know, prior to this DIY adventure, I kept my Ohuhu markers in their original bags, but kept the bags turned on their sides and used a honeycomb system developed by Reddit User Spare-Cartoonist6276 [See her original post here] to give each marker an individual slot within the compartments of the bags.
That setup has worked wonderfully for me, but as I already had three bags (216 + 104 + Skin Tones) and then recently added a fourth (Japanese 80 set), stacking the bags and searching between them for markers was getting a bit unwieldy for me. I didn't want to give up the honeycombs, but I at least needed one place to unite them all.
So when people started posting about the mug organizers, that seemed like the perfect solution. At first glance, they look like they're constructed identically to the original Ohuhu bags, just with a much larger 12 compartments instead of the 320 set's maximum of 6. So one mug organizer could easily hold a full 320 set with plenty of room left over, which sounded exactly like what I needed.
But the plan from the beginning, even if I had gone with a mug organizer, was always to end up modifying the honeycombs I'd already made (and making more as necessary) to still give each marker it's own slot, but have just one container full of Ohuhu markers instead of 3-4.   I would honestly still agree with Past Mystic that listening to the brain catapillers that kept insisting I should not spend additional money on marker storage was probably a mistake, but I also know now that Past Mystic was admittedly overly optimistic about the $20 mug organizer being the answer. We'll get to "why, exactly" later.
Anyway. By the time I made Post 1, I had already spent a few days measuring boxes, picking one out, and then hours measuring and cutting up other boxes to make the dividers for the compartments. [And as you can see in the photos, I had already started painting the dividers, which I'll elaborate on a bit more for Post 2.]
And while I do stand by my original sentiment of "don't do this to yourself," if you for some reason have a masochist streak in you that is tied to DIY'ing things rather than spending money (like I apparently have if this project is any evidence), I will very reluctantly tell you:
I picked a based box based on the dimensions of the mug organizers, hoping to end up with similar "how many markers will this hold" estimates: The main mug organizer I was looking at was roughly 16" by 13", and 6" deep. The box I picked out is approximately 17 inches on the longest side, 14 inches on the short side, and closer to 5" deep. [6" would've been more ideal, but anything over 4" would've worked so I decided to not be too picky about that.]
I then made two long divider inserts that were just a little smaller than the 17" length with 4 evenly-spaced slits approximately 2.5" deep to fit with the smaller dividers I needed to make. And those smaller dividers, naturally, are just a little bit shorter than the 14" width of the box, also with 3 evenly-spaced slits. [And you can see one of the smaller dividers that I cut the slits just slightly too big laying on the box on in the first two photos of that first post, Sharpie included for scale.]
And that leads us fairly naturally to the second post in this journey:

If you'll excuse the bad artificial lighting, you Sparklers can see I was able to finishing painting all of the cardboard black and added some galaxy-print Duck Tape to the front-facing edges, which serves and both decoration and a little extra support/protection for said edges. And today, though not pictured, I also added some felt "feet" to the back and a full layer of felt along the bottom so hopefully it won't have issues sliding or bumping up against other things. The journey isn't quite over yet, but we're so much closer now! The box/organizer itself is finished now, but the next step is to see how much modification the paper honeycombs I already use to give the marker individual slots will need to fit snuggly in these compartments. It probably won't be *that* much, but it will unfortunately be time-consuming. 😅
Once I had finished cutting up all of the dividers, I did my best to remove any tape or packing labels that might resist a paint job, then "sanded" any remnants that wouldn't come off with a nail file. [Because the only sandpaper I own is tiny, meant for cleaning/"sharpening" blender stumps and I did not want to buy sandpaper just for this purpose, but I did have a thick, brand-new nail file on-hand.]
Then I had to glue a couple of pieces of cardboard in place on the base box. With the tape from the back seam gone, I needed to glue the back flaps down, and then I had to fill some gaps left by the flaps with extra cardboard pieces and glue those in place, too. You can see a thinner extra panel on the inside of the box in the first picture, and later on you'll see a super-thin strip down the back of the box.
Then I got to spend several hours and 1.2 bottles of black craft paint...Well, painting everything.
I went with black because I had some extra bottles of both it and white craft paint on-hand that I picked up for cheap without a project in mind, and I figured black would both cover better and not show stains/wear as much over time. And while I wasn't totally sure I'd be taping any edges yet, I also had more tape options that would match the black rather than the white.
I did test the paint on a cardboard scrap first before I committed, though. I was pleasantly surprised that it did in fact cover amazingly—It sank seamlessly into the cardboard with one thin coat and will only rub off with harsh, deliberate effort, even only a few minutes after drying. [It also dried pretty fast, which was a bonus.]
And a really unintended bonus was that even though the black paint isn't supposed to be "chalkboard paint," it does leave a vaguely chalkbord-ish kind of texture on the cardboard.
On the flip side, it didn't totally hide some of the textural imperfections where I pulled tape off, but I more or less expected that.
But then, as the original post says and as you can see from the photos, after attempting to paint the very edges of the cardboard didn't gussy them up as much as I had hoped, I finished them off with some galaxy Duck Tape (brand name, not a typo) I had. I also considered a different decorative duct tape, but you'll see that in a different way a bit later.
I also took this post/these photos as an opportunity to better show the dividers in full + the extra padding/support piece of cardboard I made to slide into the bottom of the box, and what the dividers look like when slotted together, but outside of the box.
The photos also show something a little bit better than I thought I could describe it without a visual aid, which is why I didn't mention it before: To get the dividers to slot together properly, you cut the slots on opposite sides. So the slots cut into the "back" of the two long dividers, and they cut into the "front" of the three smaller ones.
I'm not 100% sure if it matters which set of dividers got which cuts as long as they fit together properly, but I thought it might look better if the long dividers had the smooth edge in front, so that's why I went that way.
And you'll see the felt "feet" on the back of the box mentioned in that post in a photo in a bit, but I did admittedly still neglect to take a photo of the felt along the bottom. But I promise you're really not missing much if you already know what a flat piece of felt looks like!  Besides, the felt was just an optional extra step that I took, as I said, to get ahead of any issues with the box scraping up against other things. If for some reason you're crazy enough to try making one of these yourself, you don't have to do that.
Past-Mystic was also so very naïvely optimistic that the box was "done" at this stage and next up would be figuring out exactly how much modification the honeycombs were going to need to fit comfortably in each compartment.
In some ways I'm jumping ahead a bit, but I didn't mention this in any of the previous posts even though I made the decision between Posts 2 and 3, so I'll go ahead and explain here:
After figuring out how the existing honeycombs would need to change (adding onto them) and how many wholly new honeycomb pieces I'd need to make, I did got ahead and have my Cricut cut the necessary cardstock pieces I'd need...But I also recognized that even at my fastest, that modification process would take a while and I didn't want to wait that long to get the markers in the box.
So I made the decision to go ahead and make some flat dividers so that I could go ahead and put the markers in the box in the meantime and they'd at least be divided up by rows of 6-7. Lots of people use dividers like that anyway instead of going the individual slot route, so I figured I could live with it temporarily.
That means I got to spend another few hours cutting up some different, thinner cardboard boxes (like cereal boxes) to make said dividers. Technically, I could have gotten the Cricut to either do that or cut some out of cardstock, but we had the boxes, I didn't feel like using more cardstock when I already needed a good chunk for the honeycomb modifications, and honestly for as much effort as it would have taken to cut the boxes into Cricut-Mat-friendly pieces, make the file for the Cricut, and babysit while the Cricut did the cutting, it made about as much sense to just do that part by hand anyway.
That said, I did not opt to try and paint the temporary dividers mostly because all the boxes have glossy-ish printing on one side and they're thin enough I did not see trying to remove that going well and trying to "sand" them all sounded like actual torture...And also, keyword: temporary.
So when we get to the finished photos, you may see some of the color from the unpainted temporary dividers here and there. If that bothers you...I'm sorry, I guess?
With that said, once the temporary dividers were made, then came what I expected to be the moment of truth: Actually putting the markers in the box.
And well, if you saw Post 3 when it went up, you already know how that went, but for those who didn't...

Well Sparklers, I started this journey hoping to save a few dollars on marker storage & was hoping Part 3 would be a nice shot of the DIY organizer in action...But instead, as you can see last night while attempting to move my markers into it, before I could even get all of the compartments filled, one of the end compartment supports [divders] collapsed under the weight of the markers. 💔 I'll explain a bit more in the blogpost I intend to compile (get the full saga in one place!) but TL;DR, I think I'm about ready to admit defeat on the DIY route and just buy some storage like I probably should have in the first place. 😅 *Do Note: The organizer is laying on its "back" in this photo so that markers are upright, which is why some of the markers towards the top look like they're levitating. I had it standing on end so the markers lay horizontal (the way it was intended to be used) while I was filling it, but when the support collapsed laying it down before the markers in that section could get too scattered was the best option. And the photo isn't a great one anyway because I was naturally very upset at this turn of events and just quickly snapped one for documentation purposes, then scrambled to get the markers back in their original bags and horizontal again so I could put everything away and get some space from the situation. 😓
This time, the photo and the original caption actually cover most of what actually happened, but I did want to clarify a few things.
Namely: I had been a little bit wary that the main supporting dividers, especially on the ends, might be prone to doing this, because I had seen as much as more community posts about the mug organizers came in.
I would consider that a key flaw of the mug organizers, really. As far as I can tell, none of the easily available ones have the ends of the dividers sewn in place, unlike the Ohuhu marker bags. Some of the cheaper ones even use plain, thin (white) cardboard for the dividers, so the potential for collapsing like this is even higher than my DIY cardboard version.
However, after some further consideration, I made the assumption that collapse wouldn't be as much of an issue if the compartments were completely full, because the weight of the markers above would fall on the markers below, etc.
Allow me to make this abundantly clear: WRONG.
BAD.
NO.
Past Mystic made a BIG mistake in thinking that!
I was trying to be "smart" and had started filling the box more or less upside-down, thinking that I'd fill the lower compartments up and gravity would handle the rest when I turned the box rightside-up.
Clearly, gravity did not wait for me. 🙃
All that work. All that effort, all that time, and for nothing, because it didn't work.
It happened so suddenly, and I was so upset...But before I could walk away and get some space from the situation, I couldn't just leave all the markers I'd moved in the box. I had to sit there and move them all back. So rubbing the salt all the way, deep into my wounded pride.
Technically, I did sleep on it, but the next day I was entirely 100% ready to just buy some marker storage and be done with this "D. I. Why??"...But then I actually tried to price-shop around for options.
If you have a smaller amount of markers to store, there are actually plenty of reasonably priced options ($30 and under) available to choose from and it's mostly a matter of picking your preferred format: Fabric-y travel case, wood or acrylic shelves, plastic trays, etc.
But uh, let me save you all a few hours and some heartache and just let you all know right now that if you're looking to store nearly 400 markers, you're going to have to be prepared to spend $50-$70 minimum.
I thought I was being extremely generous and "splurging" when I wasn't having any luck in the $20-$30 range and decided I could spend as much as $40...And I can't help but feel like maybe a few years ago that would have been a reasonable budget, but whether it ever was or not, that's not the reality we're currently living in.
I even went pretty far off the beaten path and was looking deeply into other DIY options, hoping to find something where maybe I'd have to buy some supplies for $20-$30 but would have a much easier time putting things together and still come out ahead...But again, for the amount of markers I needed to store, I kept coming up short in various ways.
Now, with that said, I would like to take this opportunity call attention to one DIY option I found that I was genuinely impressed with the ingenuity of and I would maybe still be open to trying with a smaller marker assortment in the future...But I wasn't brave enough to try it for my Ohuhus this time around because I am big-time concerned it wouldn't work well for this many markers (especially with one epic failure under my belt already):
youtube
Anyway. I would be glad to talk at length about the landscape of the "marker storage market" (and DIY options) some other time if you Sparklers would be interested in such ramblings, but for the here and now, the moral of my window-shopping: I (somehow, very likely incorrectly) did not feel like I had made $70+ worth of effort with my DIY marker box and still could not justify throwing $70+ at the problem no matter how badly I wanted to just be done and move on...So I went back to brainstorming what modifications I could do to make the box work without having to start over completely.
I toyed with a few possibilities and I'm reasonably sure there are probably a couple of other solutions that could have also worked, but I was looking for an intersection of "make it work, but also let's limit how long this modification is going to take," because in the event that it still didn't work, I wanted to limit how much additional time I would be wasting.
That leads us to one of the images for Post 4 in the saga, but I'm going to go a little out of order and go ahead and show that image to give a better look at the fix I went with for context, then we'll recap and discuss Post 4 properly:
[Possible Trypophobia Warning?]
Tumblr media
I decided the best thing to do both in terms of time and the materials I had was to make 3-sided "frames" to give each box compartment additional support to hold up the market weight.
4-sided frames or making straight up mini-boxes that fit in each compartment were also things I considered (and might have been even more secure still, if done right), but either of those would've required a lot more cardboard cutting and potentially having to find a way to securely "stitch" multiple pieces of cardboard together, meanwhile I had a few scrap pieces of cardboard already pretty close to the size(s) I needed ready and cutting a few more wouldn't be that complicated.
Also to be clear, I am fairly certain that the center column of compartments didn't really need the extra frames because they were already really solid, and the two top corners didn't necessarily need them either [because I don't plan on sitting anything terribly heavy on top of the whole box], but I knew it would look weird if I made them for some compartments but not others, so every compartment got one anyway.
Each of the frames, size-wise, is actually just a little bit shorter than the length of the shorter dividers. I can't give an exact measurement both because I didn't bother, but also because each compartment (and therefore each frame) is just slightly off by like 1/4 of an inch in one direction or the other (or both), so I scored and folded each piece to fit the top side of each compartment, then trimed the "legs" of each frame little by little until they fit properly in the compartment.
Related: If you have no idea how to get things thicker than paper to fold easily: I've done that before by using the back/dull side of an X-acto knife, but in some tests found either that was too harsh or I was too heavy-handed to do that here without just cutting into the cardboard, so I ended up using a Cricut scoring tool by just...holding it like a pencil. A bone folder would probably also work, but I don't have one of those. [I had the scoring tool on-hand already for my actual Cricut machine.]
I then repeated the process of painting each cardboard pieces with black paint so they'd blend into the full box, and I taped the edges that would face outwards. Only this time, instead of the galaxy tape, I used a rainbow-leopard print [very Lisa Frank-esque] mostly because I didn't want to totally use up the galaxy tape, but also I knew when folded you'd mostly just see blue and black on the edges of the leopard tape and thought that could be a fun extra pop of color. And as it turns out, the little bit of rainbow hiding just inside the compartment edges is kinda fun in its own way.
Also: I didn't take any pictures of this specifically, but if anybody cares, after everything was a painted, I did label all of the removable cardboard pieces (including the new support frames) with silver Sharpie in discreet places, just to try and future-proof the whole thing in case I ever need to take it apart or maybe replace specific pieces or something.
Now, if you're wondering why I did make a post just about the frames and why I held off on the reveal in this compilation, it's because at the time, while I felt odds were good the frames would work, that previous failure was haunting me and I was, frankly, terrified either they wouldn't work after all or that I'd start putting things together again and discover some other fatal flaw I'd missed.
So I procrastinated a bit by double-checking to see how the new frames might affect how the honeycombs would fit in the box, and trying correct some bowing along the sides of the exterior box by tying some yarn tightly around the box and letting it sit like that overnight.
And here's a related visual that I thought about including in Post 4 but ultimately decided not to:
Tumblr media
You can see one of the corrective yarn strings peeking in at the bottom, but the main point of this photo was a reminder to myself of how the honeycombs should be arranged when the time comes.
Specifically, the pinks/purples that take up 6 of the columns are actually in one "complete" 36-cell honeycomb that currently lives in the my 216 set bag, and that last column with a blender, black, and the Honolulu fluorescent colors is a "standalone" column that was made from "leftover" honeycomb pieces.
Before the support frames were added, I was already expecting that I would be able to get a 36-cell section in each compartment plus an additional column pretty much just like this (based on estimates from the mug organizer posts I'd been seeing), and early tests told me that would work with a little bit of breathing room. So each compartment would hold 42 markers, and I'd end up with a box that could hold a whopping 504 markers total.
Another test was necessary once the frames were added because I needed to see if having that extra layer of cardboard would only use up the breathing room or if it would make the fit too tight to get a whole extra column in. It wouldn't be the end of the world if it did, because I'd still be able to get 432 markers in there and that would still hold all the markers I needed with some space left over, it just wouldn't have as much room for new additions.
As you can see from the photo, I do think I'll still be able to get an extra column in for at least 10 out of the 12 compartments; The top right and bottom left corners are the tightest and may have to settle for the original 36-cell structures, but that would only be a loss of 12 marker spaces (492).
Granted, the frames do take up enough space that only the staggered nature of the honeycombs will make it possible to get 42 markers in each one. As you'll see in a moment, with the flat temporary dividers, there just isn't quite enough room to fit a whole extra marker in each row, so for now the compartments are only holding 36 markers each anyway.
Once those two tasks were done, I was out of ways directly related to the box to procrastinate, so it was time for the moment of truth, which brings us properly to the fourth and final post:

Sooo....After what happened last in this saga, I really was prepared to give up & just buy mrker storage...until I actually looked & realized how much it would cost to get what I wanted. That price tag said: "Maybe you should give the DIY route one more try..." So I ended up. making some extra cardboard "frames" for support, visible in unpainted-form in Photo 5, and so far they seem to be doing the trick! There's a bit more to the story, but I do still plan on compiling the details in a full blogpost to properly explain. For now, the point is I think I have FINALLY come out the other side of this and I'm thrilled! ✨
For this second filling of the box, instead of turning the whole thing upside down so I could fill it "in order," I opted instead to just start at the bottom and fill it "backwards" so the weight would be increased from the bottom-up. It might not have mattered at this point, but I didn't want to take any chances of my box-filling strategy having a negative impact on the final result if I could help it.
And ultimately, I'm kinda glad I did it that way because with 36 markers per compartment, once I got through my 216 and 104 sets, I had room for just 3 markers in that first compartment of the second row left, and it's probably better to have that space near the top and less affected by gravity that it would have been in the bottom corner. You can see I opted to fill those 3 slots with two extra blenders and an extra black, which also means I've got black and a blender acting more or less as "bookends" for the 320 range.
That probably begs the question though about what's going on with those two compartments full of markers in the first row, yeah?
The very first compartment is my entire Old 24 Skin Tone set (note the presence of GY163) 6 extra Skin Tone colors I had on-hand, plus a row on top of Arteza Everblends (which we'll come back to), and the second compartment is all of the other "exclusive" Ohuhu colors I was missing (+ the blender from the Japanese 80 set)...And then another row of Arteza Everblends on top (which again, we'll come back to).
Basically, until I can get the honeycombs ready, I wanted to have both of those compartments full to limit how much the markers can move around on their own. The "extra" Ohuhu colors on their own would've only filled up one compartment and then a partial one, and it's the potential for movement in the partially-filled one I was worried about.
Otherwise, I really don't need the duplicates from the 24 set in there (they can live in the 80 set bag with those duplicates), and long-term I think I would actually want to try and integrate the exclusives so that all of the markers are in order together following my swatch chart.
The Artezas (told ya we'd come back to them!) are there both to fill the space and also because I'd like to use them more and that just isn't going to happen if I leave them in the cardboard box they came in. So even once I get the honeycombs sorted out the Artezas will probably get to stay, at least for a while. [There should certainly be room for them!]
Now, there aren't any markers in that last top compartment, but there is something there, so here's an additional photo of that, and let's talk about it:
Tumblr media
Oh, and while we're at it, there's your better look at the leopard print tape on the frame pieces. 😜
Sticking out of the bottom of this compartment are the final temporary dividers that I would use if it was also filled with markers, then on the side there's a small folded piece of paper with a very simple diagram I drew as a very simple guide for where each of the frame pieces go if I ever have to take them out and put them back, and then the most noticeable thing: That little zipper case.
Once upon a time, that was a travel manicure toolkit, but the nail tools have long since been lost. Currently, I'm using it to hold a bunch of very small swatch cards—One for each Ohuhu color I own.
Those cards are for the very long-term ongoing project I have of sorting out my own "proper color order" for the markers. The zipper case is where they live when I'm not using them, and it just worked out really well that the case fits right into the width of the box compartments.
It's not necessary for the case to be there—It was doing just fine on a shelf with some other art stuff—and it probably won't stay there forever, but I thought it would be kind of nice to let it at least temporary live with the markers since that compartment was mostly empty anyway.
And from the full photos you may also notice I also decided to take advantage of what bowing is still on the right-hand side of the box:
Tumblr media
By wedging the swatch cards from the 216 and 104 sets in there!
I use my own chart more for making art, but it's nice to have these cards on-hand as quick reference for what comes in those specific sets.
And then just to make sure I have all my bases covered: The last photo from Post 4 specifically shows the box in place near my desk, it's permanent home. And we can see that where it sits, I have space in front to use as a little "catch all" area for other things I might need to have within quick-reach but there isn't room on the desk for them. [The other Post 4 photos were taken in another room that had better window light on the day the photos were taken.]
And now that I think I've explained everything that's in the box (and in front of it) so hopefully you won't be too busy wondering about that to focus on anything else...
I must point out: I was still nervous the entire time I was filling the box that it was going to spectacularly fail at any moment. And since the timing worked out that I finished filling it up right before bed, I also got to turn in for the night worrying that I was going to wake up to some kind of horrid noise and markers all over the floor.
Good News: That didn't happen! 🎉
It's also now been a few days with the box full-up and it seems like it's going to hold, at least for a while!
I do expect if left as-is for too long that some of the cardboard will start to bow from the weight of the markers (as do many of the DIY foamboard marker cases I've seen), but if that's the worst thing that happens, I can live with that. And I also think if I can get the honeycombs ready before that happens, the tighter fit on those might help counter/prevent at least some of it. But only time will tell for sure.
But the point is: The box is holding up so far, and so I feel more comfortable letting myself be happy that it is actually DONE! 🎉
It does just look and feel so nice to have all the markers contained in one home, and the box fits pretty much exactly as I expected in the same spot where I was keeping the marker bags before. It's roughly the same height as the 216, 104, and 80 set bags were stacked together, it's just a little bit wider than the 216 bag was (maybe two inches more?).
And while it's not technically as portable as the bags because it doesn't close up or have handles, I was able to carry it around the house to a different room to take photos without spilling markers everywhere.
I think I could potentially make a lid/cover and maybe some kind of removable carry strap in the future if gaining back that portability for this many markers really mattered to me, but after everything I've already been through to get here, I'm perfectly content with the box as-is.
Speaking of: I would like to call extra attention to the title and the fact that this post is not written at all like a tutorial for how to make one of these boxes yourself.
Remember, even back when I made Post 1, I was already saying a variation of "Don't do this to yourself," and the main reason I continued on at that point—even before the collapse that had me ready to quit—was because I felt I was already in too deep and had to see the project through.
And I said at the beginning of this post, I stand by that sentiment. Even going in with the knowledge of "you'll have to make extra frames to support the marker weight," I think generally the trouble of sourcing and preparing all of the cardboard to get to that point is more trouble than it's really going to be worth for a lot of people.
Especially when you consider that I kind of lucked out that we had a box close to the proportions I wanted already in the Cardboard Hoard.
I don't even want to know what the alternate reality looks like where I would have had to make the base box itself out of other boxes. 😖
So while I can't in good conscience say "just save up and spend $70+ on storage," [because, as we discussed, even at my very lowest in this adventure, I still couldn't justify doing that myself,] I will at least say: "Spend $20-$30 on a mug organizer" and then optionally "spend a few hours making cardboard frames to give it the support it needs."
Had I known ahead of time how much trouble I was going to have in this process, that's what I would have done. I probably could've been halfway through the honeycomb modifications by now.
What will I do if/when I outgrow the box I've made? Right now, I don't know—That's Future Mystic's problem. But also, hopefully, that question won't need answering for a while. [Especially if I can in fact squeeze 504 markers in this thing with the honeycombs.]
So this blogpost exists as:
A cautionary tale
Personal validation that I did it
A very loose point of reference so that if you do feel an inexplicable urge to try making a box like this yourself, you have a little more insight on how best to go about it.
And if you take anything away from this, whether you feel compelled to try making your own marker box or not: Try to remember that some things in life are just not worth torturing yourself over if you have another choice.
And if you're in a similar headspace to mine at the beginning of this journey and you need someone to give you "permission" to spend a non-ridiculous amount of money on something that would make your life easier: Consider this my personal blessing to do so, please.
On that note, I think I've covered about everything that I could think to. And in fact, believe it or not it actually took me roughly 3 days to type all of this out in a way I was satisfied with, so I hope you Sparklers can forgive me that I don't have a more eloquent outro in me at this point. 🫠
So I will leave you all to make your own marker storage related decisions and excuse myself—After all, I have a bunch of extra honeycomb cells and half a dozen other [Ohuhu] marker projects on my to-do list.
Thank you to anyone who actually bothered reading through all of my ramblings, and hopefully you will all be hearing from me again very, very soon.
Sparkle On ✨

A Minor Malfunction Part 2/3

Since investigations were never quick, Connor really should’ve expected this case to be no exception.
It took roughly half an hour just to reach the crime scene alone, and now that they’d arrived, minutes were accruing like Deviants themselves. The scene wasn’t too unique compared to other similar incidents, but that didn’t mean it was absent surprises either.
For starters, there were multiple human victims — two adult men aged somewhere between thirty and forty years. They were dealers allegedly draining their own androids for their Thirium in order to produce more red ice for local distribution. The Androids were both inactive and found just outside the immediate area given they’d lost a critical amount of blue blood. It was likely they’d shut down since there was no way their bio components could sustain their systems on such minimal fluid. This was the first case in which Connor and Hank had investigated people using their own androids to bolster their personal RI supply, and for some reason, Connor doubted it’d be the last.
The men had been assaulted by the Androids in their kitchen based on the amount of blood smattering the countertops and the overall state of disarray. Chairs were knocked over, the fridge was left open, the stovetops were on when police arrived, and there were broken dishes, toppled pots, and loose silverware scattered everywhere. The men had done a good job remaining inconspicuous in their affairs; even their next door neighbors reported no suspicions of their notorious trade, nor the abuse of their Androids. Connor purported that the tiny apartment was designated for the sole purpose of their operations — not particularly lived in or used for shelter. His theory was based on the fact there was no food in the house, and every single cabinet, cupboard, or similar compartment had been repurposed for RI storage. Not to mention the home was completely battered, obviously lacking much needed maintenance and cleaning. Even the naked human eye could catch the layers of dust and grime coating every flat surface in sight. Hank was the first to say as much after he entered the living quarters and immediately tripped over a bag of old Chinese food containers and syringes.
“Fucking shit!” He had hissed, glaring down at the trash bag like it had personally assaulted him. “I swear if this place is crawling with rats like that damn pigeon house I will shoot those filthy bastards on site!”
Miraculously none of the officers had encountered a single rodent; however less fortunately, Connor’s nose was starting to grow unbearably itchy given all the dust and cobwebs decorating the dry air. Not to mention it was freezing inside — the other investigating officers bundled under several layers and still chattering against the cold. Connor suspected the leaks in the roof and broken windows were to blame for the influx of frigid air, which was starting to really stiffen the cogs in his chest and extremities.
Connor slowly gravitates to Hank’s side, peeking over his shoulder as the senior observes one of the victims.
“More red ice,” he grumbles as he plucks a PVC packet off one of the men’s person. The crystallized drug sparkles like false ruby under the scope of Hank’s flashlight. “Given the toxicology report, it’s a wonder how this guy didn’t overdose before he was murdered.”
Hank passes the packet to Connor, the latter fumbling the substance between his fingers while he examines it more closely.
“The composition isn’t exact to other red ice compounds we’ve seen in the past,” Connor observes. “Perhaps they were developing a hybrid; something inexpensive with a similar effect and appearance.”
Hank scoffs, shaking his head. He pats down the rest of the victim’s body. “A living eye could never catch all that, but I guess that’s why you’re here, right Connor?”
“Correct,” Connor confirms.
“Well,” Hank says, rising from the floor and clapping his hands together to rid them of the dirt caked in the grooves of his skin, “I have my theories, but uh, why don’t you go first while I wash this shit off?”
“Of course,” Connor nods as he watches Hank step over the victim’s body and head for the kitchen sink. He wastes no time pulling up the list of evidence saved to his specs.
“Based on what I’ve gathered and the analysis of my digital reconstruction, Victim A was likely assaulted by Android B first. Victim B was preoccupied with the stovetop while Victim A busied himself with collecting the Androids’ Thirium.”
Hank hums, encouraging Connor to continue while he tries to unstick the sink’s rusty left handle. “Go on.”
“To access the blue blood, the victims would often drain a specific wound afflicting the android’s torso; the area just beneath where a human’s right rib cage would end. The puncture wound was scarcely healed between draining instances, and therefore the most reasonable source of continued drainage. I believe Victim A was attempting to reach Android B’s puncture when the bot suddenly refused his inspection. Thus-“
“SHIT!”
Connor jerks in surprise as Hank yanks his hands from the sink basin to avoid the gush of suspiciously gross water pouring out the faucet.
“Ah that’s just fucking great! Ice cold, filthy fucking water! Matches the house itself, I guess,” Hank curses as he extends his hands away from his body. Even a few of the surrounding officers take steps away from his reach.
“Hang onto that thought. I’m gonna go wash this off in a puddle or something.”
With that, Hank and the remaining officers head outside the home, leaving Connor alone with the still running water. The Android heads over to the sink and promptly halts the flow, which has collected in the basin turning it a muddy, sewage brown. For sanitary reasons, he should really drain the fluid, but something about the discoloration even has him grimacing.
While inspecting the mess, Connor is completely unaware of the steady pool of rainwater collecting just overhead, seeping through the cracks of the ceiling; and just as he’s about to return to his former position, the roof panels give way and unleash their tide. With his reaction time hindered, Connor barely side-steps the planks crashing to his sides. It’s a lucky dodge, but still not quite good enough to avoid the wave of water that crashes him dead on. Within the blink of an eye, he’s become drenched in icy fluid.
He’s thankful he was the brunt of the accident and not Hank or the other human officers, but if he wasn’t already shivering before, he sure was now. That pummeling had put a dent in his defensive barrier, and the large influx of water was starting to sink into his circuits faster than it could be flushed out.
A similar alert blares through his system, only this time it glows red and reads as a warning.
WARNING!!! Functionality: Highly Impaired. Code: C5Y0091-44BC. Result: Bio-Component Defects And Malfunction. Water Intake: Level 4. Risk Of Shut-Down: Moderate. Self-Repairs Update Ongoing. Time Remaining: 53 Hours, 21 Minutes, And 17 Sec-
“IHT’TDSHY’yiiEW!”
Connor sneezes freely towards the ground, his hands pathetically hugging his shoulders and shaking against his sodden sleeves. Water had definitely infiltrated his cavities, only congesting him further. Get a grip, he mentally commands. Don’t-!
“Hh’PTSHH’huh! ssh’hHIEW!”
Come on! Get a-!
“Connor!”
The Android lifts his head, spotting Hank who's just re-entered the house and is already barreling his way.
“Connor! What happened?!” He asks, examining the android’s body then glancing between the fallen debri and the hole in the ceiling.
“N-Nothing, L-Lieutenant,” Connor stammers, his voice as uneven as autotune. “Th-the ceiling…it must’ve fallen under the p-pressure of the s-storm.”
His voice has taken on a robotic vibration, frying it with digital gravel.
“Jesus…,” Hank murmurs absentmindedly, his gaze returning to Connor himself. “Did it fucking fall on you? Why are you soaked?!”
“I-I’m okay,” Connor reassures, though the constant shivering and sniffling probably doesn’t make him any more convincing. Two other, entering officers are starting to look at him. He didn’t need this extra speculation, so he opts for changing the subject, and fast.
He glances at Hank’s hands.
“D-Did you manage t-to w-wash your hands off?”
Hank stares at Connor like he’s asked him to perform the electric slide. Okay, so maybe that wasn’t the smoothest transition out of the spotlight. But even so, he didn’t say something wrong again, did he? Connor smiles through chattering teeth, when suddenly, Hank catches his cheeks in his palms and sternly peers into the Android’s eyes.
“Christ Connor you’re freezing,” he murmurs, an unusual hint of worry seeping through his tone. Connor wasn’t supposed to evoke that tone, so he does his best to console his partner.
“I-I’m okay, Lieutenant,” Connor repeats. “I-I’m just glad n-no one was injured,” he adds, blatantly ignoring the 59% efficiency report blinking in the corner of his sight. “The temperatures m-may slow m-me down, but I assure you I a-am s-still capable of completing my job.”
Hank doesn’t look convinced, far from it actually, but he ultimately chooses to free Connor of his hold, perhaps motivated by the approach of the remaining officers. He clears his throat and nods, averting his eyes to the remainder of the scene. He’d have to clean up the fallen shit, but honestly that was the least of his current concerns. One victim was piled beneath rooftop shambles, and if he knew anything, it was that Fowler would blame him for the tampered scene — whether it was his fault or not.
“Alright,” he grumbles. “But-,” he exclaims, pointing a finger in Connor’s face, “-you’d better tell me if you start bugging out! The last thing we need is you breaking down or glitching or something.”
Connor’s gears tighten. “Of course, Lieutenant. That won’t happen,” he assures.
“Good, ‘cause I’m not filing a broken equipment report after we’re done here,” he mutters, returning to the crime scene. As he does, he huffs under his breath, shaking his head and hiding his expression behind a curtain of loose bangs.
“Fuck, almost actually had me worried there, Con!” He admits. “I seriously almost asked if you wanted a break, or were hurt or feeling okay, but I forgot you don’t really want or feel, well, anything, do you?”
Connor’s hands grip tighter against his arms, leaving scratches across his synthetic skin that are slow to regenerate.
“Correct, Lieutenant,” he murmurs, his LED flashing yellow.
Hank accepts his answer, already having shuffled over to the fallen planks to scoop them out of the way. Connor tries to help him, but Hank intercepts his reach.
“Uh-uh! You keep telling me what you found, then go ahead and re-investigate the bodies, yeah? Or at least, y’know,” he glimpses down at the victim half-buried beneath the rubble, “the ones you can still see.”
By the time they’ve managed to clean up the majority of the roof and granted Connor enough leeway to re-inspect the final victim, more than an hour has passed. His metal was freezing cold to the touch, barely above 35 degrees, and his malfunctions were getting worse by the second — only functioning at an even split of 50%.
Still, it looked like their investigation was nearly over. The other cops had long left the area (probably in order to avoid clean-up duty), and Hank was equally ready to go with just the final victim remaining to be studied. For a man who hated his job, he’d rushed to get another look at the body. He was already down on his knees, hovering over Victim A and scouring his wounds with his flashlight.
“So, you’re saying this one attacked the Androids first?”
Connor nods. “Y-Yes. It’s m-most p-probable.”
His stutter was getting worse. So far Hank had been ignoring it, but there was no way he hadn't noticed.
“So run the last part by me again? Y’know, about how the second Android got involved?”
…No response.
That was unusual.
“Connor?” Hank calls.
No response. Again.
What the Hell?
“Connor? Connor??” He repeats, this time glancing back at the Android in question. To his unease, Connor is looking somewhere unseen, as if in a trance. Making a face, Hank claps his hands together, startling the Android out of his daze.
“Goddammit! Connor!!”
Connor blinks twice and immediately looks to his partner.
“Apologies. D-Did you need me?” Connor asks.
“Well I’ve been calling your name four damn times, so yeah,” Hank answers sarcastically. “I thought you said you were fine. The Hell is up with you?”
“N-Nothing, Lieutenant. I’m sorry,” Connor apologizes again. This time though, Hank isn’t letting him slide so easily.
“Don’t give me that bullshit. What’s going on, huh? You’re even loopier than yesterday,” he scoffs. “Y’know I was joking earlier but now I’m not so sure. What is it, huh? You actually malfunctioning or some shit?”
“N-No!” Connor exclaims a bit too hastily, based on the way Hank raises an eyebrow his way. He hadn’t meant to raise his voice so high. It was an impulse he rarely leaned into, but it was difficult given the constant red warning swimming through his ocular piece. “N-No…my operations are functional.”
“Functional?” Hank repeats, placing a hand on his knee. “What happened to optimal?”
For a middle-aged drunkard, Hank was remarkably astute — a quality Connor often admired, just not in this moment.
“I am fine,” Connor breathes, trying to keep his voice as still as possible. “I’ve already ran internal diagnostics. It s-seems that I’ve contracted a small virus that is affecting the r-regulation of my bio-components.”
“What?” Hank exclaims, suddenly up on his feet and fully facing his Android. “Affecting how? For how long??” He asks, bordering concern and curiosity.
“My temperature regulation is h-hindered, resulting in fluctuating internal temps ranging from r-roughly 30 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit.”
“30?!” He knew Connor was cold, just not that cold.
“My ocular c-components are s-similarly impaired, occasionally resulting in low visibility and an inability t-to scan c-certain d-data in the environment. I s-suspect I will not be able to immediately diagnose b-blue blood, as taste receptors are partially numbed.”
Hank honestly didn’t see that as a negative per se, but he wasn’t about to say that aloud.
“And I am experiencing m-mild g-glitching affecting airway c-cavities, though this is, again, a m-mild inconvenience.”
Hank looks Connor up and down, expression unreadable. For the first time, Connor swears he’s sensing something. Something internal outside his usual program, and aside from the errors he’s affected by. This was something new, something strange and unpleasant. Something like…
Anxiety?
He waits for Hank to say something — anything — even if it’s at his own expense, and yet all the detective does is stare at him. Finally, after a few more bated moments, Hank does something unexpected: he laughs. And when he does speak, it’s in the flattest tone Connor’s ever heard out of him — a tone befit an Android.
“So you have a cold.”
Blue rises to Connor’s cheeks. Anxiety was giving way to another unwanted emotion: humiliation.
“…Yes, Lieutenant. The common cold would likely be an equivalent to my condition.”
Hanks laughs again, placing his hands on his hips as he shakes his head in amusement. “Learn something stupid everyday,” he muses. Then, more seriously, he continues: “So what exactly uh, happens when you’re-,” he waves his hands around Connor’s person, gesturing to his entirety,” -like this. Hm? I’m assuming bots don’t get sick leave.”
He was genuinely curious (maybe even a smidge compassionate), and as always, Connor has an answer.
“CyberLife has been notified of my dysfunction, and their report denotes that as a m-model RK800, I am c-capable of both s-self-diagnostics and administering minor self-repairs. A-As such, this inconvenience is nothing I c-cannot h-handle myself. Given approximately-,” his LED hums and glows a faint blue, “-51 hours, 32 minutes and 11 seconds, my s-systems should be rebooted, and myself returned t-to optimal f-functionality. In the meantime, I apologize for any hindrances this may c-cause our investigation, Lieutenant; however, CyberLife has assured that these errors are m-more likely to c-cause self-contained discomfort, and are therefore highly n-negligible to outside company.”
He wiggles in place. “That is why I didn’t tell you sooner. I’m s-sorry for the disturbance, and urge you to ignore my incongruity lest it endanger or c-concern you or others directly.”
“Right…,” Hank nods, still eyeing Connor with skepticism. “But you know it does kind of concern me when you’re all dopey, ignoring my questions and shit.”
“It won’t happen again.”
Hank snorts, rolling his eyes. “I’ll take your word for it, but forgive me if I think you’re full of shit when you say so,” he says, returning to the victim. “So, anything else I should be aware of? Any other surprises?” He chuckles.
Hank awaits an answer, even if it’s meant as a joke, but once again he’s met with silence. He sighs and mutters something unintelligible to himself; something along the lines of “I swear to God kid if you aren’t listening”; but just as he’s about to call Connor again and wake him from whatever tizzy he’s fallen back into, the Android makes a sound he doesn’t recognize.
“H’ih-!”
“Huh?”
Hank waits, but there’s no response again. Was Connor trying to say something and he’d missed it? “Hey! Connor! What did you sa-?”
“Hidt’TZSH’ieEW!”
Hank startles, jerking enough to lose his grip on his flashlight, which tumbles from his hand and rolls across the wood flooring. He swings around fast enough to give someone his age whiplash, still not entirely believing such a human sound was produced by his partner. That is, until he watches him make it again. The android’s shoulders bounce twice, chest inflates with a faux breath, and then-
“Ih’TSHH’Uui! E-Excu’h-! Hhh’idTSHh’iew!”
He somehow catches the final sneeze in an artificial web of fingers. Why he even bothers Hank doesn’t know; after all, it’s not like he could infect anyone. Then again, it was probably just another habit to make him appear more human; though to be honest, Hank almost found it creepy.
When Connor catches his partner staring, he looks utterly embarrassed; the sky-blue blush rushing to his face and discoloring his ski-sloped nose. To regain his composure, he’s quick to readjust his trademark tie and fidget with the cuffs of his sleeve.
“Excuse me, Lieutenant,” Connor offers sheepishly.
“…did you just fucking sneeze?” Hank asks, only the way he says it makes it sound more like an accusation than an inquiry.
Connor nods and rubs his nose. “Forgive me. It’s another side effect of my-,” he pauses, refusing to say malfunction aloud. “-condition. I’ll try not to let it happen again.”
“It’s not that I just, didn’t know you things uh, did that,” Hank replies un-eloquently. “Not that I even knew you got sick for Christ’s sake.”
“It’s not common,” Connor answers, his eyes averting shyly. “It’s to vent out my systems. Usually androids don’t need to resort to these processes since they clean themselves manually, but with my bio-components partially corrupted-“
Connor sniffs and pinches his nose, unaware how he seems to be bewildering Hank further.
“-my systems are relying on automatic reflexes. CyberLife did add that they m-may be on high alert for outside disturbances. S’h-?! So given how duh’hsty this area i’hiH-! is…”
Connor glimpses around the abandoned kitchen, wiggling his nose and sniffing in succession, again.
“-I suppose I’m-…I-hH‘m…-?!”
He’s intent on continuing, he really is, but he just can’t. Therefore, he swivels around out of Hank’s sight, and sneezes as quietly as possible into the bed of his palms.
“pP’SHHIi’Eew! ihH’SCH’yuU! ‘chyiieEW!”
Or not quietly at all, really. It was just so hard; especially when his nose was so relentlessly ticklish! Staving off the fit for hours probably didn’t help, but in his defense, he still wasn’t 100% sure fighting it off actually made it worse. Just…99% sure.
“ahH’Ah-! H’ahH-…! HH’ATSCH’hyieEW!”
The water soaked into his systems must be more  agitating than he thought. He sniffles damply and rubs his nose on his sleeve before clearing his throat of the congestion that’s settled there. When he faces Hank again, he isn’t even aware of just how blue he’s turned, or the little curls of hair that've been freed by the exertion of his fit. He coughs into his fist.
“Excuse me. Sorry. I was saying that I’ve become highly sensitive to the changes in the environment. Like the rain and-“, he sniffs, hesitant to even utter the word, “-dust.”
The initial shock of disbelief wearing off, Hank’s expression dissolves into a smirk that teases more at one corner of his mouth than the other. “So first you catch colds and now you get allergies, too?”
Connor swallows.
“Not necessarily,” he defends.
Hank nods, still looking cheeky. “But you are sneezy.”
“A bit…yes,” Connor confirms, scrubbing at his face again. Static is still tickling his nose, and spreading an itch to the rest of his face. Is this how humans felt when they were overreacting?
“I’ll stop it next time. I’m sorry.”
He fears he may have given the wrong answer the way Hank stays silent, but ultimately, his partner must appreciate his courtesy, because his expression softens and he rises to rub Connor’s shoulder in earnest.
“Twenty more minutes and then we get you out of here. I’m starting to freeze my balls off, anyway.”
Twenty minutes don’t come fast enough. Thankfully they’ve managed to piece together exactly how the crime went down — from the names of the victims and their Androids, to the means of assault, the murder weapons, and the motives. The cost however was Connor’s comfort, which if not indicated by his breathy sneezing and constant shaking, was evidenced by the 44% efficiency he was operating at. He needed a charge, and maybe just a little time to shut his eyes, which were being swarmed by constant alerts. The walls of text and meaningless numbers were starting to pile up in the corners of his eyes and really impair his sight. He had attempted to blink them away as quickly as they popped up, but at some point he’d given up altogether — doing so was expending crucial battery life he couldn’t afford to spare.
And now even his balance was beginning to suffer, causing him to lean and rock whenever he inched in any direction. To keep himself steady and warm, his hands were permanently grounded to his arms, keeping him enveloped in a hug of his own making.
As he watches Hank wrap up, Connor suddenly remembers that his night was far from over. He still needed to file his case report to CyberLife, and the idea of walking all the way back to the station was no more appealing. As an Android he wasn’t afforded the luxury of catching himself a taxi since it was illegal to spend currency on himself alone. Usually Connor didn’t pay this inequality any real attention, but in his current state, he finds himself fixated on the rule. If he thought on it further, perhaps he would’ve inspired some kind of opinion; ultimately though, he knows there’s nothing he could do but accept it. Thus he turns his attention back to his current priority: Hank, who he needed to return home safely before reporting their findings to CyberLife. He’d made a promise to Sumo, after all.
He may be exhausted, but he still wasn’t ready to deem his performance a total failure just yet.
“Alright, I think we’re just about done here,” Hank sighs, looking and sounding just as relieved as Connor was. “Don’t tell the Chief but uh, based on what we found here-“
Hank peeks at Connor who meets his glance.
“-fuckers probably deserved what they got.”
Connor glimpses at the Android bodies, then that of the human victims. He shrugs, albeit reluctantly. “That is n-not a j-judgment I can m-make,” he answers.
“Sure it isn’t,” Hank sighs. “Anyway, let’s get the fuck out of here. Come on.”
Hank leads the way towards the exit, and as usual, Connor is quick to trail him like a puppy chasing its owner. He’s so close to being done and escaping this fortress of death and dust, but of course, fate can’t let him off so easily. The whole day had been work, and apparently his shift wasn’t quite over yet.
He feels it before he fully realizes what’s happening. That prickling burn in his face had returned with a vengeance, syncing with another alert that blinds his view completely.
WARNING!!! Functionality: Critically Impaired. Code: C5Y0091-53BC. Result: Bio-Component Defects And Malfunction. Risk Of Shut-Down: Imminent. Self-Repairs Update Ongoing. Time Remaining: 54 Hours, 26 Minutes, And 03 Seconds.
Wait, did the time remaining increase?
Connor is too preoccupied with completing his objectives to heed his system’s warnings, and thus dismisses the alarm pounding in his head. With a mighty effort he attempts to trudge forward in Hank’s wake, every step heavy and audibly creaking. His bio components slosh with rainwater, sending chills through every circuit and rendering every movement sluggish and dizzying. The pixels in his view were collecting like a storm and creating clouds of noir fuzz that eat away at his peripheral sight.
And that damn vibration in his chest and nose! It was so fucking distracting! He doesn’t need to alert Hank to his current state any more than he already has, and he definitely doesn’t need to get whisked up in another pathetic fit…but the tactics he’d used so far to abate his reflexes just weren’t providing him any hints of reprieve.
Desperate, he resorts to a new plan of action, quick to secure his nose between the pads of his thumb and forefinger. He’s seen Hank do it before, so maybe if he just…! Connor clamps down hard on the sensitive tip to try and curb the itch that’s nested there, eager to quell the phantom sensation by massaging and kneading strategically. Rain water squeaks against his grip, and the stubborn tickle has him coughing breathily against his control. Please let this work! He can stop this one! He just needs to concentrate. He just needs to try harder! He just…ne’hH’eds…t-t’hHU…!
Abandoning his cause, Connor blindly frees his hand and reaches for Hank’s shoulder. He ends up at his sleeve instead, but honestly that’s close enough given the urgency of his position. He gives the detective’s jacket a little tug, signaling for his attention.
“LieuyY’hH-!…Lieutenant-?!”
Hank peeks at Connor over his shoulder. “Yeah?”
“S-Sir-! I-I’hh am…,” Connor trails off, and catching the Android’s desperate gaze, Hank pays him his full attention. The Android shuffles, blinks side to side, then flusteredly exclaims, “g-going to do ih’hIHT-!…a’hh’gain-!”
Hank blinks, and when he finally catches on, he blinks again.
“Connor,” he grumbles, rolling his eyes and gripping the Android’s hand. “You’re a damn-near indestructible supercomputer worth double my yearly salary. Are you seriously telling me you’re about to sneeze again? Like a preschooler?”
“Y-Yes-!” Connor answers seriously between hitching breaths. Hank isn’t surprised he didn’t catch his attempts at teasing, but he’s also unaware of just how mortified Connor is — how he’s feeling. “I understand I — huh-! — f-frightened-“
“I wasn’t scared.”
“-you la’aast time s’so I th’hah-! I thought I’d try to w-warn you’that’I-!”
“Fuck’s sake just shut up and get it over with!” Hank hisses.
Permission granted. To spare his commanding officer the unsightly scene, Connor twists his body and races to cover his mouth with steepled hands. He hiccups two “breaths” (a pattern Hank was beginning to pick up on) against his palms before succumbing to his nightmare.
“Hh’IPTtsSH’IEW! Aah’-! eH’SCH’hh! Iy’hh-! hah-! H’hiHH-! hHYi’DSHH’uU!”
He coughs so hard afterwards, his chest rattles and mouth leaks stale rainwater. It’s the trigger that melts Hank’s bemused expression into one of utter fear, his eyes wide and unblinking. Up until now he’d found this whole thing funny, maybe a bit quirky and unusual, but now? Now this felt serious. Dangerous, even.
“Connor!”
Hank scrambles to Connor’s side. Without seeking permission, he grabs both Connor’s wrists in his hands and forces them away from his face, revealing a tortured expression he should’ve noticed earlier. Connor looked outright uncomfortable. He looked distressed. He looked…
Really sick.
Guilt anchors Hank’s heart to the bottom of his gut, and out of some sort of paternal instinct, he holds the Android steady by pulling him into a hug.
“Connor!” He calls, but the Android is prisoner to a loop of gasping and sputtering. Pressed close together, Hank can hear the faint whistling emitting from the Android’s chest. Paired with the aggressive huffing and whimpers of sound, Connor didn’t sound too much unlike an asthmatic. Hank’s hands are becoming numb the longer they remain locked around the man’s body, and with every violent shiver, his body shakes in chorus.
Connor clutches greedy fistfuls of Hank’s jacket, relying on him entirely for support to stay upright. It’s like he’s clinging for life support, and the impression makes Hank’s own blood turn to ice.
“Connor?! Connor, son!! Are you okay?!”
To his horror, Connor blindly shakes his head. It’s the last hint to compel Hank to action. Desperate to comfort the Android further, Hank cradles a hand to the back of Connor’s head and pillows his face against his chest. The Android wiggles weakly against his grip, but Hank adamantly refuses to budge.
“Relax, kid. I used to be a dad, remember?”
He closes his eyes and traces soothing circles between Connor’s shoulder blades.
“Getting sneezed and coughed on is part of the job; maybe for detectives too. So quit your fighting and just get it over with — I’m here for you now.”
Either his words resonate convincingly enough, or Connor can’t hold out any further. Either way, the result is the same.
“HAHDZSCHh’hiuUH! h’DTZSH’HUH! ih’KSCHH!”
Connor groans faintly from the bed of Hank’s breast pocket, barely catching another breath before he’s snapping forth again. First coughing, then flung into another sneezing fit.
“EH’DSHH’CHhui! ‘CHiiEeW! ‘SCHH’yyiuh! hHi’tshiiew!”
The last one is barely a sneeze, more like an exhale of empty, fizzled out air. Hank noticed how Connor, even in all his desperation, had refused to sneeze on him; instead letting loose at the last possible moment by pressing his forehead to his chest and aiming each burst towards the floor. Even while at the end of his rope the damn man was too polite — a wholesome and unreasonable characteristic Hank acted like he abhorred, but silently envied.
Relieved to be finished but feeling infinitely worse, Connor lifts his head slowly, already pulling out of Hank’s touch to crush the back of his wrist against his nose. He wasn’t about to look Hank in the eyes, not that he could see clearly to begin with. Errors were swarming his senses like gnats, declaring him critically defective and dangerously malfunctioning — as if he needed a reminder of the obvious.
Rocking on his heels he clutches his head in his hand and surrenders to the glitches tearing up his bio components.

Malfunction. Shut-Down Sequence Initiated.
N-No. He wasn’t going to shut down. It was a status he couldn’t afford, especially given his type of work, his mission, his expectations, and his model. A malfunction this spiraling…was unbefitting a rumba, let alone an RX800 Android like himself. If he couldn’t pull it together and send back a satisfying report to his creators, then…what could he expect? He’d be forced apart and aptly replaced by a new Connor model. He would be broken down; he’d be expendable once again. He’d lose his purpose. He’d lose his job! He’d lose Hank!! He didn’t want that!!!
“Connor! CONNOR!!!”
He…he didn’t…

Hihihi omg I just stumbled upon your blog and you seem sooo so sweet jabsjabsj ໒꒰ྀི´ ˘ ` ꒱ྀིა Nervous to ask but I was wondering if I could by any chance get a Genshin matchup ?? <3 I was going to ask for a Danganronpa matchup as well but I wasn't sure if that was too many or if I should request that in a different ask or something ... ໒꒰ྀི´• ˕ •` ꒱ྀིა
Oki-doki ! My name is Schneider - or Chara !! I don't mind either :3
I am transmasc, I use he/him prns, and I prefer more masc or gn terms ^^ No fem terms please !! I am uncomfy with that ><
I have no preference in terms of gender, I love everyone equally ^_< ★
Please no Zhongli, Ayato, Al Haitham, Haiji, or Toko !! I'm very sorry if this makes things complicated </3
Umm I'm a Scorpio !! I can't add the rest of the signs because I have no idea how to find that information ໒꒰ྀི 𖦹 ˕ × ꒱ྀིა‎ ‎ ‎ so sorry !!
I am an intj I think ^_^
I'm 170 cm // 5'7 !!
I'm a tad fucked up ^^ I have szpd, dpdr, autism, aspd, and I'm hypersexual !! In also anemic :3 I'm the whole package fr !
I'm Russian , Italian , and French :3 most fluent in Russian as I grew up in a primarily Russian speaking household... In Russia, but I'm also fluent in Italian <3 (surprisingly, when speaking irl, I suck at speaking English)
I'm a human icebox , I'm never not cold -_- I'm also never not sleepy!! I'm a very sleepy guy
I LOVE sweet things :333 I dislike sour, bitter, or dry things, and I prefer not to drink or eat anything hot ! It depends on what it is though ^^ (I also love angel food cake!!)
Overbearing fashion enthusiast ^_^ I collect SO many fashion magazines, I made my closet into a storage room for all of them ໒꒰ྀི >ヮ<꒱ྀི১
Personality ; I'm generally a very thoughtful person I think, I always try to take other's into consideration when doing or saying something!! Due to autism, I have a hard time being expressive through facial expressions and tone of voice, so I usually have an either bored or tired look on my face that sometimes scares people off </3 My voice is monotone so it often comes off as me being disinterested or irritated... I'm not !! (Usually) I love helping people and taking care of people !! It makes me feel like I'm actually needed somewhere // by someone :3 Another important thing, I never speak unless spoken to- even to family members and close friends !! So if you don't speak to me first, we'll likely never speak at all ໒꒰ྀི´• ˕ •` ꒱ྀིა
Appearance ; I have dark blue hair with black roots !! It's thick and fluffy near the top, but thins out and curls more near the tips ^^ One side goes right below the shoulder, and the other sits right on the shoulder !! Very uneven, I tried to cut it myself when highly intoxicated and fucked it up </3 I have brown eyes, one is slightly paler than the other because of an eye injury !! I have super bad depth perception because of it, and often end up bumping into things or tripping without realising something was right in front of me -_- I'm almost always wearing my Ushanka when outside because I have a strange emotional attachment to it and get anxious when I don't have it when I go out !
Hobbies ; Writing, making dollhouses, taking care of animals, fashion, flower arranging, collecting animal bones (THAT I FOUND IN THE WILD!! I would never EVER harm an animal :( I just think anatomy is very fascinating!)
According to my friends, I seem very intimidating when you first meet me, but I'm actually very kind once we talk <3 (some of them said my spirit animal is a rat , I'm taking that as a compliment because I think rats are silly ^^)
------------------------------------
I hope this is good !!! I'm so so sorry if I did anything wrong or if I overshared, I have a bad habit of doing that ໒꒰ྀི´• ˕ •` ꒱ྀིა Have an amaaaaaaaaaaaazing day or night :3 Ly <3

VENTI
This was honestly such a hard decision
I didn't know if I should give you someone to match your vibe, or to go for someone to be opposite
I decided to go with venti since I think you two would be a cute couple
Extrovert loud boyfriend X introverted sweet boyfriend
I like to think that venti, though loud and annoying at times, would be very caring and sweet towards you
And by that I mean that he's very considerate and thoughtful, which he may not seem at first glance
You guys do have similar hobbies, a poet and a writer, isn't that a nice combination?
By that theme, venti would write A LOT poems about you
He finds your personality way too fascinating and charming not to, how could he resist?!
He also enjoys doing anything with you really, he won't miss a single chance to spend time with you, even if you're not even doing anything he'll just simply enjoy your presence in the silence then.
SHUICHI
Different from venti, shuichi is more introverted and quiet
Though it may be a big difference in personality between those two, I still do believe that shuichi is very lovable and loving and a good match to a lot of people
And as for why I picked him for you
Shuichi would somewhat be a nice partner, he's caring and loving after all, and I like to think that a guy like you deserves all the love in the world
And shuichi can provide you with a lot of love, he might not be very physical about his love, but he is verbal, he will tell you from time to time that hes proud of you, that he enjoys your company, that he loves you.
Another of his love languages is acts of service, so do not be surprised if he brings over some sweets to you from time to time
Also I matched you up with him because shuichi is a good listener, and would absolutely adore hearing about your hobbies, and just generally if youre ranting he will gladly listen
A thing he loves about you specifically, is the way you're always thoughtful of others and try to include them, it always brings a smile to his face
Honestly shuichi is just a perfect cutiepie, and I think he would match and compliment your personality very nicely

Part Seventy-Seven
Summary:  Baldwin Montclair had a string of ex girlfriends, a single child, and a  lifetime longer than most people could dream of to make all kinds of  mistakes. His family knew one which kept coming out of the woodwork to  irritate him every other century

Martin knocked on the door before swiping his guest id card and letting himself into the lab. 'I bring gifts!'
'Chris, Martin.' Miriam barely looked up from her microscope as Martin walked past her, carefully putting the sealed package he was holding down before shaking the man's hand.
'It's a pleasure to meet you.'
'Likewise.' Chris looked him up and down. 'Um..'
'Vampire,' Martin and Miriam chorused.
'Ah.' Chris turned his attention to the white box. 'What are these?'
'Blood samples.'
Miriam looked up, confused. 'Marcus already sent us a full blood work from Ransome and the rest of the children.'
'I know,' Martin said, innocently, as Matthew and Diana came into the room.
'Eighteen year old male, approximately 1,010 years old...' Matthew snapped on some gloves and started gently snooping through the box. 'Twenty-four-year old male, approximately 670 years old... twenty-eight-year old female, 663..'
Chris whistled. Miriam raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms.
'How were these samples taken?' Miriam asked.
'Willingly and without malice aforethought,' Martin quipped, crossing his arms back at her. She narrowed her eyes but turned back to her work without comment.
'It's killing you, isn't it?' Diana grinned, leaning into Martin's side.
'You have no. idea.'
Diana laughed.
Martin and Gallowglass had taken to Chris the moment he'd helped Diana answer an alchemy question during their first year of faculty at Yale. Since then, their opinion of him had gone from strength to strength. It was taking every ounce of willpower Martin had not to simply drag Chris off to a bar and info-dump all the hilarious and funny anecdotes he'd been dying to share with him for the last five years.
________________________________________________________________
'We need more information.'
'Good morning,' Martin murmured, not looking up from his book. Matthew swiped at his feet where they were resting on one of the storage cabinets along the edge of the room but Martin tipped his chair back and 'walked' it out of his reach.
'We need the Book of Life.' Diana rubbed her back and winced. Martin shot up from his seat and offered it to her, and sat on the edge of the cabinet next to her.
'The genetic markers in the blood samples are indicating a pattern,' Matthew admitted. 'What that pattern will reveal about blood rage, only time will tell.'
'But we need the other piece of the puzzle now, to help us get ahead of everything.' Diana looked up at Martin. 'Please tell us where the final page is.'
'How close are you to a breakthrough, genuinely?' Martin asked, turning to Matthew.
'Weeks.'
'I thought the point of bringing in more researchers was to speed up the process?'
'Believe me, 'weeks' is fast.'
'Fair enough.' Martin took pity on Matthew's nerves and hopped off the cabinet. '..do you remember that second gift I promised you?'
Diana and Matthew's eyes grew wider.
***
Jack arrived on the doorstep of the house in Mayfair in a clean linen shirt and a modern black suit. Diana's breath caught in her throat; she could see glimpses of the little boy he had been, and it hurt to think she had not been able to be there to support him to be the young man he had become.
Choices..
She tried to make peace with herself.
'Dad!' Jack wrapped his arms around Martin, who hugged him back.
'How have you been?' Martin put an arm around Jack's shoulder, leading him over the threshold. 'Any news?'
'Everything's secure.'
'I meant about you,' Martin shook him gently, making Jack laugh. Diana hovered, not wanting to intrude on the moment, but Martin smiled at her, pat Jack on the shoulder and nudged him forward. 'Go on.'
Jack looked at her, drinking her in. He seemed hesitant, a little guilty, so she reached for him first, closing the gap and gently bringing him in for a hug.
'I'm so sorry for breaking your heart,' she whispered. 'You have always deserved to be happy.'
Jack said nothing, and buried his face in her hair.
***
It took a while to tell his tale with questions flitting back and forth between Jack, Diana and Matthew, but after it was done they sat, just holding each other.
'We shouldn't have teased you with a future we couldn't provide,' Matthew said, squeezing Jack's shoulder. 'I'm sorry.'
'You did, in a way.' Jack gestured at Martin. '..-'
'Dad,' Matthew prompted. Jack smiled apologetically, but Matthew just shook his head.
'Dad-' Jack continued, '-took me in because you introduced us. If it hadn't been for you we would never have met. I don't know where I would have ended up.'
'Philippe would have arranged something,' Ysabeau came into the room; behind her Gallowglass was staggering blindly up the hall, buried under a small mountain of shopping bags. Everybody winced at a loud, distant crash.
'Jack Blackfriars. It's so lovely to finally meet you.'
'Ysabeau de Clermont,' Martin waved in her direction as Jack got up and Ysabeau embraced him, kissing him gently on both cheeks.
'Heey!' Marcus whooped and gathered Jack up in a bear hug before they both suddenly froze.
'..you two seem overly familiar with each other,' said Martin, eyes narrowed.
'Run!' Marcus whispered, 'Save yourself!'
Jack leapt over the couch as Marcus tried to go left. Martin grabbed Marcus by the waist, heaving him off his feet and carrying him along as he reached the front door seconds before Jack, clothes-lining him up under his other arm and violently shaking both boys.
'How long?! How long?!!'
Jack giggled behind sealed lips. Marcus shook his head, refusing to speak.
'Fine!' Martin awkwardly opened the front door and started to walk out.
'Where are you going?' asked Phoebe, through tears of laughter.
'France! I hear there's an oubliette going begging!'
________________________________________________________________
Jack gave the taxi the address and soon the tower of Christ Church Greyfriars loomed in the distance. The church had been burned in the Great Fire and bombed in the Second World War; the crypts below it were still structurally sound though, and Jack led them down into them via a secret door set in a corner of the public garden that had been built where the church used to be.
'Welcome.'
Andrew Hubbard stepped out of the shadows, stopping in front of Diana. He bowed stiffly. Diana bowed back.
Martin stepped up beside her.
'I understand you are here to collect?' Hubbard said.
'Yes. Thank you, for keeping it safe all these years.'
'Of course.' Hubbard lead them deeper into the catacombs, weaving beneath the foundation of the church until they were standing beneath the altar.
'Don't worry,' Hubbard reached into a corner and withdrew a folded step-ladder. 'I brought a ladder.'
'Do you want to do the honors?' Martin asked Diana, gesturing to the ceiling. She slowly climber the ladder, Matthew carefully steadying her by the elbow and then the waist as she reached up and felt into the crumbling dirt layered over a sealed box set into the roof.
'It's light!' She carefully pried the box from its hiding place, a thick wave of discolored light tickling through her fingers flashing purple-blue-green-red and sparking out as the magic sealing the box recognised her; the owner, come home.
'Father Hubbard's the only one who besides Dad and myself who knew it was here.' Jack explained, proudly.
Diana slid the box open. Resting on a pillow, bright and dust-free, was the final page of the Book of Light. Two alchemical dragons locked together in eternal combat, the blood from their wounds falling into a basin containing two pale, naked figures.
'Edward Kelley sent it to me the autumn after you left.' Hubbard explained. 'He told me not to let it out of my sight.'
'Hubbard mentioned it when we saw each other again,' said Martin, taking up the tale. 'I explained what it was and told him not to let it out of his sight.'
'I prayed he was lying.' Hubbard looked grim.
'What did you know about the Book of Life?' Diana asked.
'One hears rumours.. The witches' first spellbook, the binding of the vampires to their timeless existence; the creation of the daemons. It was unclear what I should believe but I knew the book was dangerous.'
'Dangerous?' Matthew asked, as Diana slipped the page into a plastic folder and into her bag.
'The fight for the book could well destroy us all,' Hubbard drew his coat around him as if to ward off a chill. 'Or it could be the salvation of one species but damn another.'
'It belongs to everyone,' Diana reassured him. 'We're not going to put any one species on a pedestal.'
'I hope so.'

TIPS FOR MY GURLIES WITH STRICT PARENTS!
for people who struggle with parents checking your phone, these are some tips you can use for your tumblr blog to keep it hidden!
PLEASE MAKE SURE TO READ THE DISCLAIMER AT THE END !!
Tumblr media
001. use the web instead of installing the apps on your phone!
for tumblr always log in through the web whenever you wanna post or be active, in that way parents won't be able to locate tumblr and you can delete the traces from your web history.
for pinterest, make an account and again always log in through the web, make some boards where you save pins you want to use on your blog and download them onto your phone storage only when you have to use them and then immediately delete them after that.
002. for editing apps, download when you want to edit something and then after editing and saving the edits and using them on the blog immediately delete the apps, and the edits from your phone storage.
003. for storing drafts, you may use tumblr directly but sometimes the app glitches and deletes it or does not save the progress so an alternative for that could be specific notes storage app with login and backup options.
i will suggest miuu notes(for android), it has an option to log in with email id, keep your drafts backed up(have to tap the button manually) and easily access them in any phone once backed up with the specific email id, the app also has a pin lock which you have to enter everytime you open it. so you have the option to back up the drafts up to date and delete the app whenever necessary and then reinstall it and get back the drafts.
i will not really encourage using google docs since it'll be easily accessible to parents during phone checks.
004. for email if your parents are on the really strict side i would suggest making a new gmail for all these accounts.
for example, my main gmail is (fullname)@gmail.com which my parents are aware of, and the gmail i use for my tumblr and pinterest is (someothername)gmail.com so for all these apps use the "someothername" mail id so then it'll not be so easy for them to find out (unless they look through the list of google accounts being used on your phone)
DISCLAIMER ! these are some tips i have good faith in, but i cannot guarantee you'll never be caught if you do this because some parents are so strict that they do find ways to know everything.
i personally do not have such parents, and i also use their email id for some of my apps too(they never check/have never checked my phone). for my blr & pin i just use a different gmail id cause i'm scared of getting it mixed up with my main because it is used a lot with my uni and everything.
so all this is not entirely from personal experience it's just something i believe could work. don't just trust me blindly, and i beg of you not to use these methods to gain access to content that is not for your age (ahem ahem pre teens) thank you and i hope it helps those who genuinely need it!!

⛓Keep us chained to your blog by sharing a WIP for WIP Wednesday!⛓
Hi Anon!
Ok, it's obviously not Wednesday but, let's do this... Although to be truthful, I don't have a lot of WIPs (there's a lot of content to be posted in the longfic but I figure it's technically not a WIP any more).
So a couple weeks ago, a few of us were weekend slumber party spitballing AU ideas, and this urban fantasy AU came up in conversation . And though I really don't know if I am actually going to write it, little bits of scenes have started popping into my head so I jot them down. Not sure if it counts yet as a WIP, because I haven't committed to writing it...
Kenshin had been in a killing mood again.
The dead tsuchigumo had been left on the bartop at some point in the night. Shingen circled the decomposing body, noting that a cascade of yellowish haemolymphatic fluid had already oozed into the floorboards. Parts of its exoskeleton were scattered across the back bar as if flung there during a toddler's tantrum. One of its legs had been planted in the tip jar. The location of the other seven legs... still undetermined.

Smart Paperwork and Invoicing Tips Every Trucker Should Keep in Mind
Tumblr media
Introduction
If you’ve ever found yourself buried in paperwork after a long haul, you’re not alone. For many truckers, managing invoices, rate confirmations, proof of deliveries, and other documents feels like a second job. It’s a side of trucking that often gets overlooked but plays a huge role in how smoothly your business runs—and how quickly you get paid.
As an owner-operator or small fleet owner, keeping your documents organized can be the difference between fast payments and frustrating delays. That’s why we’ve put together this blog full of essential truck dispatching paperwork tips, based on what we’ve seen working firsthand at MBM Dispatching. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to clean up your back office, these insights will help you stay on top of the paperwork so you can stay focused on the road.
Why Managing Trucking Paperwork Properly Matters
In the world of trucking, time really is money. Every delay in submitting the right documents can mean waiting longer for your payment. Missing or incomplete paperwork can lead to disputes with brokers, rejected invoices, and unnecessary stress.
Professional dispatching services like MBM Dispatching help take that load off your shoulders. While we handle a lot of the documentation process for our clients, we also encourage drivers to stay informed and organized. That’s because when paperwork is handled the right way from the start, it protects your business, improves cash flow, and makes your week a whole lot easier.
Tip 1: Always Keep Digital and Physical Copies
One of the simplest but most effective truck dispatching paperwork tips is to always keep both digital and physical copies of every important document. Whether it’s a rate confirmation, bill of lading, proof of delivery, or invoice, having a backup can save you time and money if something gets lost or questioned.
At MBM Dispatching, we recommend using a simple cloud storage solution like Google Drive or Dropbox to save scanned copies of all your paperwork. That way, even if your phone gets damaged or you misplace a folder, your files are safe and accessible from anywhere.
Tip 2: Double-Check Documents Before Submitting
It might sound basic, but small mistakes on paperwork are one of the biggest reasons payments get delayed. Whether it’s a missing signature, incorrect date, or wrong load number, brokers and factoring companies can reject your invoice for even minor errors.
Before submitting anything, take a moment to review each document. If you’re working with MBM Dispatching, your dedicated dispatcher will often catch mistakes before they go out. But building the habit of double-checking everything yourself ensures nothing slips through the cracks.
Tip 3: Stay Consistent with Your Invoicing Format
Your invoice is more than just a request for payment—it’s a professional document that reflects your business. Using a consistent format with clear headings, accurate dates, load numbers, and payment terms makes it easier for brokers and factoring companies to process your invoices quickly.
MBM Dispatching offers invoicing support as part of our dispatch services. But for drivers who prefer to send invoices themselves, we always recommend keeping it clean and consistent. Over time, this kind of professionalism builds trust with brokers, which can lead to better long-term relationships and faster payments.
Tip 4: Don’t Delay Submitting Paperwork
The longer you wait to send in your paperwork after completing a load, the longer it takes to get paid. Some brokers have cut-off times for same-day or next-day processing. Waiting even an extra day can push your payment timeline out by a week or more.
We advise all MBM clients to submit their documents immediately after delivery whenever possible. Snap a quick photo of the signed POD and send it in. If you’re using a factoring company, they’ll appreciate the speed—and you’ll appreciate the faster deposits in your account.
Tip 5: Use a Reliable Dispatching Partner
If you’re managing all your paperwork on your own while also driving and booking your loads, it’s easy for things to fall through the cracks. That’s why one of the best tips we can offer is to work with a dispatching company that understands documentation and can help manage it for you.
MBM Dispatching takes care of most of the admin work, including document tracking, follow-ups, and file management. We know that for many drivers, this part of the job is the most stressful. By taking it off your plate, we help you focus on driving, earning, and staying compliant without the constant headache of chasing down signatures or clarifying broker requirements.
FAQs
Do I need to keep physical receipts and documents, or are digital copies enough? Digital copies are generally accepted, but it’s still smart to hold on to physical copies for at least a few weeks in case any issues arise. MBM Dispatching keeps digital backups for our clients to ensure everything is in order.
How long should I keep my paperwork on file? For tax and audit purposes, you should keep documents for at least three to five years. Using digital folders helps make long-term storage much easier.
Can MBM help me if I’ve already lost documents for a past load? Yes, if you were dispatched through MBM, we may have backup copies on file. We always recommend reaching out as soon as possible so we can help recover the necessary paperwork.
How can I make my invoices look more professional? Use invoice templates that include your logo, MC number, contact details, load number, pickup/drop info, and payment terms. MBM can assist with invoice formatting as part of our dispatch service.
Is paperwork support included in MBM’s standard service? Absolutely. MBM Dispatching provides full back-office support including document management, load confirmations, and invoicing assistance.
Conclusion
Paperwork might not be the most exciting part of the trucking business, but it’s one of the most important. Staying on top of your documents helps you get paid faster, stay compliant, and avoid unnecessary stress. The best part? You don’t have to manage it all alone.
With MBM Dispatching by your side, you get more than just dispatching—you get a full team dedicated to making your business run smoothly, both on the road and behind the scenes. Following the right truck dispatching paperwork tips and partnering with a company that understands your needs will give you the edge to grow your operation with confidence.
Let MBM help take the pressure off your paperwork—so you can keep your eyes on the road and your mind on what matters most.

Creating A Budgetfull Home Without Hitting The Bank And Budget
Intro:
Creating A Budgetfull Home Without Hitting The Bank And Budget
When I moved to a new city for college (or work), setting up a decent-looking place felt impossible. Buying furniture, appliances, even a mattress — it all added up quickly. That’s when I came across rental services like appliances on rent. Honestly, it changed the game. In this blog, I’ll share how I built a cozy, practical home without spending a fortune — and why renting might work for you too.
💰 Set a Realistic Budget: Don’t Burn Your Wallet Too Soon
Tumblr media
How I Figured Out What I Could Actually Spend (Without Regretting It Later)
Let’s be real — when you start thinking about setting up your own space, it’s super easy to get excited and overspend. I did that too. The first thing I bought was a bean bag I barely used. What I should’ve done first was set a realistic budget.
Here’s what worked for me:
I listed out the must-haves: a bed, a basic table, fridge, and fan.
Then I separated the “wants” (like a TV or fancy décor).
I looked at rental prices and compared them with second-hand buying options.
Finally, I decided on a monthly limit — ₹3000–₹5000, which covered most essentials via rentals.
You Can Start With Basic Budgets No Need To Take Everything At First
🏡 Plan Room by Room: One Step at a Time, Not All at Once
Tumblr media
When I first moved in, the biggest mistake I almost made was trying to do everything at once. I quickly realized that the smarter also a cheaper way is to set up one room at a time, starting with the ones I use the most.
🛏️ Bedroom: Comfort First
This is where you sleep, chill, and binge-watch after a long day — so it has to feel good. Rental Must-Haves:
Bed with mattress (double or queen size)
A basic wardrobe or clothes rack
Curtains (cheap but effective)
💡 Pro Tip: Look for rental combos like “bed + side table + mattress” — it’s cheaper than renting each item separately.
🛋️ Living Room: Chill Zone Setup
Even if you live alone, the living room is your mini theatre, gaming spot, or tea corner. Essentials to Rent:
A basic 2 or 3-seater sofa
Small coffee table
Optional: Smart TV or a TV unit (if budget allows)
💡 Alternative: Use floor seating, cushions, and a rug until you can afford more. It looks cozy and saves ₹₹₹.
🍽️ Kitchen: Function Over Fancy
Most rental places don’t give a full kitchen setup, so I had to handle it myself. Appliances I Rented or Bought Cheap:
Fridge (rented)
Microwave (optional, but great for late-night snacks)
Gas stove / induction cooktop
Basic shelves or racks for storage
💡 Hack: Look for pre-used appliances on OLX or Facebook Marketplace if renting isn’t available
💸 Buying vs. Renting: What’s Cheaper for a Basic Home Setup?
Tumblr media
When I moved into my new place, I had this big question in my head: Should I just buy the furniture, or rent it for now?
At first, buying seemed like the obvious answer. You pay once, and it’s yours forever, right? But then I started looking at prices and... wow. Even just getting a decent sofa and bed was adding up fast.
Also, there’s stuff people don’t tell you. Like what happens when you move? Or if you suddenly don’t like the style anymore? Selling used furniture is a headache, and honestly, I didn’t want to deal with that.
On the flip side, I checked out renting. And yeah, it felt kinda weird at first — like, furniture subscriptions? But honestly, it made a lot of sense.
I didn’t have to spend a ton of money up front. Everything got delivered and set up for free, and if I want to switch things out later, I can. Plus, when I leave the apartment, they’ll just come take it back. No stress.
🤷‍♂️ So What’s Better?
If you’re settled, have the budget, and you’re sure about your space — maybe go ahead and buy.
But if you're like me that figuring things out and moving soon, or just not ready to commit surely renting makes life a whole lot easier.
In the end, it’s not just about saving money. It’s about saving yourself from a whole bunch of hassle.
This version sounds more like something a person would say in a real conversation or a casual blog. Want to test this in ZeroGPT now? Or I can adjust it further based on your writing style.
🛋️ Make It on Rent, Still Feels Like Yours
Just because you rented it, does not mean it can’t feel like home. When I first got a sofa, bed, fridge on rent, everything looked… well, basic. Functional, yes. Cozy?
✨ 1. Add Your Own Touches
I bought a few cushions, throws, and rugs from a local store.
Added some fairy lights, posters, and indoor plants.
Even a cheap ₹100 photo frame with family pictures made a difference.
Suddenly, the same “rented bed” felt like my space.
🧽 2. Keep It Tidy & Organized
Rented stuff can feel “temporary” if it’s messy all the time. I made a rule: no clutter on the sofa or table. Clean bedsheets, a tiny tray on the center table, and even a scented candle helped the whole vibe.
🎨 3. Mix Rent with Owned Stuff
I didn’t rent everything. I bought small décor items, a shelf, and a lamp. Mixing rented big items with your own tiny pieces keeps it both affordable and personal.
💬 Final Thought:
Renting gives you the freedom to explore, change, and grow — but your vibe is what turns a space into home.
Whether it’s a ₹500 bean bag or a full living room set on rent, if you love your space, it’s yours no matter who owns it.

Yes, I Got a Cloud Server for Free Forever Here’s How You Can Too.
Let me tell you a little secret: I'm running a cloud server right now—for zero dollars. No tricks, no expired trials, no surprise bills. Just forever free. And the best part? You can do it too.
This isn’t one of those “free for 12 months” offers that quietly auto-bills you after a year. This is 100% free forever, and I’ve been using it to host websites, run experiments, and even power a personal VPN.
Here's how I did it—and how you can get your own cloud server for free too.
Tumblr media
🧠 First, Why Would You Even Want a Cloud Server? If you’re a dev, student, entrepreneur, or just someone who wants to mess around with tech, a cloud server is basically your Swiss Army knife. You can:
Host your own blog or portfolio
Deploy web apps
Run bots or automation scripts
Set up a secure VPN
Tinker with Docker, Node.js, Python, and other cool tools
Learn cloud infrastructure (and impress your next job interviewer)
But traditionally, cloud servers cost money. Not a lot—but still enough to be annoying if you’re bootstrapping.
🧨 The Hack: Free-Tier Cloud Servers (Yes, They’re Legit) Here’s the part most people don’t realize: some major cloud providers offer "always free" tiers. These aren’t trials. They’re permanent free resources designed to bring developers into their ecosystem.
Let me break down the best ones:
🟢 Oracle Cloud - The Real MVP What You Get (Always Free):
2 Arm-based virtual machines (VMs)
1 GB RAM each, up to 4 vCPUs
200 GB storage
10 TB/month of data transfer
👉 This is what I'm using. It’s not just a toy—this thing can run websites, apps, and even a Minecraft server (with some optimization). It’s shockingly good for something that costs nothing.
Pro Tip: Choose the Ampere A1 (Arm) VM when signing up. They're the magic machines that stay free forever.
🔵 Google Cloud Free Tier 1 f1-micro VM (in select regions)
30 GB HDD + 5 GB snapshot storage
1 GB outbound traffic
It’s more limited, but solid if you want to dip your toes into Google’s ecosystem. Great for small side projects or learning.
🟠 Amazon AWS Free Tier 750 hours/month of a t2.micro or t3.micro EC2 instance
5 GB S3 storage
Other bonuses like Lambda and DynamoDB
⚠️ This one’s only free for the first 12 months, so set a calendar reminder unless you want to wake up to a surprise bill.
Honorable Mentions (For Web Devs & Hobby Projects) Flyio – Run full-stack apps with generous free bandwidth
Render / Railway – Deploy static sites, APIs, and databases with ease
GitHub Student Pack – If you’re a student, you unlock a TON of free cloud goodies
⚠️ A Few Quick Warnings Before you go server-crazy:
Stick to free-tier specs (e.g. Oracle’s Ampere A1, Google’s f1-micro)
Watch bandwidth usage—10 TB sounds like a lot, until it isn’t
Avoid regions that aren’t free (yes, it matters where your VM is located)
Set up billing alerts or hard limits if the provider allows it
So… What Can You Actually Do With a Free Server? Here’s what I use mine for:
✅ Hosting my personal website (no ads, no downtime) ✅ Running a WireGuard VPN to stay safe on public Wi-Fi ✅ Testing code 24/7 without killing my laptop ✅ Hosting bots for Discord and Telegram ✅ Learning Linux, Docker, and server security
Basically, it’s my own little lab in the cloud—and I didn’t pay a dime for it.
Final Thoughts: Cloud Power in Your Pocket (For Free) In a world where subscriptions are everywhere and everything feels like a money grab, it's refreshing to find real value that doesn’t cost you anything. These cloud free tiers are hidden gems—quietly sitting there while most people assume you need a credit card and a corporate budget to get started.
So go ahead. Spin up your own free cloud server. Learn. Build. Break things. And have fun doing it—on someone else’s infrastructure.
