Because I play on a longer lifespan (I used to kinda double the ‘normal’ lifespan with MCCC, as the ‘long’ lifespan just is a bit too long, but now I have a system where every human year equals 3 sim days approximately), I have added some extra goals for myself for this generation too:

Complete the aspiration ‘Bestselling Author’  -> not started yet, I'm planning on Penny starting a writing career first and inspiring Kit to write too

Get the ‘Energetic’ lifestyle -> in progress, but with the running away and the pregnancy, this faded to the background a bit

All toddlers max out all toddler skills (to get the ‘Top Notch Toddler’ trait), extra fitting for his generation -> not started yet :-)

All teens max out the scouting career -> not started yet :-)

Offspring roll: 5 + 3 (Yup, that's 8! 8 kiddo's... I hope Penny will be fine with this, because these two are endgame to me)

Part 2 of the Sims!MP100 AU is finally here!!! [Part 1] [Fanart for pt2: x] [Fic] [New Server]

Some more lore was added to the AU!

So basically, Mob and Ritsu were orphaned when they lost their parents to a house fire. Since they had no other relatives, they had to be put in the foster system. Reigen, (who already knew Mob before it all happened), decided he was going to do everything in his power to take care of the poor kid and keep him out of the foster system. He tried to adopt the two brothers, but there was a big pushback from the court. Reigen was single, unemployed, a smoker, and didn’t exactly have a good track record for, well, anything. There were innumerable cases before Reigen was able to finally win over the court... or at least, partially win them over. He was able to adopt Mob, but Ritsu wasn’t so lucky. Ritsu was sent to be fostered by an older woman with a lot of cats. Ritsu lives so far away now that he and Mob never get to see each other. While Mob still calls him from time to time, it feels to him like he lost his brother in the fire that day too. 

Reigen is doing his best to be the most loving parent he can be to a kid in this situation, but its hard when Mob refuses to talk or share his emotions. Reigen’s also struggling to do everything he can to get himself financially stable. He’s been in interview after interview trying to get a job so he can support Mob. Its hard though, finding time to write resumes and such, when you’re raising a kid full time. He’s trying to manage living with a demonic cat, keeping the house in one piece, keeping his kid happy and healthy, and balancing his finances all while having the court breathing down his neck. Reigen is doing everything he can to prove himself worthy to the system, not just so he can keep Mob, but also so that one day he can finally reunite the Kageyama brothers.

Even though Reigen is his legal father, Mob still goes by Kageyama and doesn’t call him dad (yet). Its hard for Mob to really accept that his parents are gone now. Reigen respects this, and doesn’t try to force the whole “dad” thing onto him, but a small part of him hopes that one day, maybe when he gets Ritsu back, he can finally be his real dad. 

and now that that's done, here's what all that’s happened since we left! :)

-Reigen tries his best to help Mob with homework, despite not knowing a thing about math.

-And finally, finally, FINALLY Reigen is able to get a job! its a crappy, minimum wage job as a mailroom technician, but hey! if it pays the bills it pays the bills.

-That night, as they’re trying to sleep, Mob and Reigen are rudely awakened by the sound of their neighbors,,,, uhh,,,,, 

-(Reigen decides he’d rather lie to the kid about what those noises are)

-But since Mob isn’t able to get any sleep, he goes over himself to bang on the neighbor’s door. 

-Turns out? Creepy stalker neighbor has a lady friend! and now she and Reigen are yelling at each other... while she’s naked...

-This, by the way, is how they start the morning of their first thanksgiving together! :)

-Reigen is actually very excited, this is their first Thanksgiving as a family after all! He can’t wait to give him boy the most perfect Thanksgiving ever! :D

-And of course, it turns out to be everything but perfect. 

-To start off, their house is invaded by gnomes:

-Thankfully, Mob and Reigen are able to appease the gnomes through the power of singing and coffee (dont question it)

-They leave Reigen with seedpackets as a token of their gratitude. Reigen’s not really sure what to do with these, but he’s very thankful.

-The gnomes, however, then decide to surround Reigen’s bed, making it impossible to go back to sleep. 

-And as if things can’t get any worse, an old friend creep decides to give Reigen a call

-how this man managed to find out that Reigen got hired the morning after he got the call is beyond all of us. Reigen hasn’t even spoken to him. He hasn’t even left the house since he got the call.

-Doesn’t he have a lady friend now?? Why doesn’t he just go and bother her?? ?

-We finally decided that things were a little bit too chaotic at the apartment. Since both of them had the day of we thought, hey, why not have Reigen and Mob go out for a little morning jog? Some body improvement! 

-We would later come to regret this decision

-Poor Mob has trouble keeping up with Reigen

-The two of them are enjoying their run so much, Reigen decides to go outside the city to run!

-They take a taxi down to Brindleton Bay, and then a boat out to a nearby island.

-Mob and Reigen continue jogging as they explore the area a bit! Mob comes up with the idea to climb up to the top of the lighthouse. They use the opportunity to get some stair exercises in. (Body improvement! Fight on!)

-The view from the top is gorgeous! Reigen can’t help but feel so proud of Mob’s progress. 

 -Mob, it seems, isn’t able to wait until Thanksgiving dinner to tell Reigen how he feels. 

-Things, it seems, can’t get any fluffier. 

-Then of course

-That’s when everything goes to shit

-Reigen is now freezing to death, trapped on an island, far away from home, with not much time left before his body temperature drops so low that Mob has to watch another one of his father figures die. 

-The chat, of course, is handling this very calmly

-Luckily, Mob spots a house on the shoreline!

-Thankfully, there was a very kind family living there!! A Mom, her son, her young daughter, as well as their dog were there when Mob arrived with Reigen

-The woman didn’t hesitate for a moment, but went straight to work saving Reigen

-Reigen resisted help at first (he didn’t want to be seen naked), but they were eventually able to get him in the tub

-Mob stood by and waited nervously as we watched his dad slowly return from the brink of death

-Thankfully, THANKFULLY, the woman was able to save him!

-Mob is more than ecstatic to see Reigen alive and breathing, he doesn’t even wait for Reigen to leave the room before he gives him a hug

 -The woman was kind enough to let them stay over at their house until Reigen’s body temperature went all the way back to normal. She even lit him a fire to warm himself by.

-While Reigen is sitting by the fire bundled in blankets, trying to get the cold out of his bones, Mob finds himself making a new friend. 

-The woman’s son and Mob bond over their shared interest in video games!

-Mob also discovered their piano! His playing sounded pretty awful, but he’s trying his best!!

-We’re suddenly distracted from playing Mob when Reigen’s moodlet shoots through the roof. The cause of his excitement? 

-He saw a doggo

-he does have the dog lover trait after all, who can blame him

-Reigen is able to recover before nightfall, and he takes Mob home for the night, both of them having made a new friend.

-Reigen decides he’s gonna try and salvage this disaster of a holiday with the grandest thanksgiving meal Mob has ever had!

-He goes to work trying to prepare the turkey, despite having no cooking experience, and having completely and utterly destroyed every single meal he’s tried to cook so far.

-Surprisingly, Reigen manages to cook the turkey without burning it!! 

-The two of them decide to go and get themselves dressed while the turkey cools. 

-But of course, the sims gods refuse to leave this poor family in peace. 

-For when they return to their thanksgiving turkey they see-

-Disaster

-In perfect Christmas-Story fashion, Dimple decided to go and EAT THE ENTIRE TURKEY

-The chat panics

-That turkey was $75, more than an entire paycheck for Reigen

-We begin frantically deciding what objects of furniture in the house aren’t necessary. I mean, how badly do they need a toilet anyways?  

-An unexpected hero jumps in at the last moment to save the day: Reigen’s new job! Despite the fact that Reigen hasn’t even gone to work yet, they decided to give him a holiday bonus!

-Reigen is able to remake the entire meal with his bonus! Surprisingly, the family is able to spend the rest of their dinner in peace, with no weird or traumatic events to ruin their day. (Its like a thanksgiving miracle!) Mob talks to Reigen about his new friend, school, his favorite animal, video games, and other such things. 

-For a moment, it feels like Family

-Reigen, it seems, can’t seem to shake off what Mob said to him before the near-death experience at the lighthouse. He decides that there’s no better time than the present for him to tell Mob how he feels.  

-Despite all the trauma this family has had to endure, they both go to bed feeling happier and more loved than ever before

-All’s well that ends well I guess?

Capp Manor - Day 3

Our visit to the Capp Manor begins with an awkward breakfast.

Juliette: Oh great, you’re still here! Tybalt: I live here, you dumbass! Juliette: Not for long! Once I’m in charge, you’re gonna be alone living in a Tiny Tudor!

Mercutio’s still pissed off.

Hermia: Geez Merc, aren’t you supposed to be headed to school too? Mercutio: I’ll head over once I finish up here, you hard-hearted wench!

Hermia: I better not miss the bus because of this idiocy.

Despite seemingly being against missing the bus due to idiocy, Hermia thought it would be smarter to move the trash into the manor’s compactor. Y’know, the same manor that takes half a sim hour to walk up to? So, yeah, the trash is staying out for now. She can deal with it when she returns.

Four hours later and she’s back!

Hermia: How the heck do I only have a B+? I know I had trouble focusing on getting my work done after all those deaths in the family, but I’ve been catching up like crazy lately.

Tybalt: Herms, why don’t the teachers at school like me enough to give me anything higher than a B+? Hermia: How the hell does my idiot older brother have the same grade as I do? Our education system must stink as bad as this trash.

I think Mercutio must have some kind of trash kicking sensors installed in his brain. The moment Hermia put the trash back into the can, he returns to kick it over again.

Hermia: Hi Merc. I see you’ve come over to kick our trash again. Mercutio: Yeah, so? Hermia: But wouldn’t you prefer to annoy my brother instead of getting revenge on me? I mean, I’m cool as a cucumber, so you won’t get much of a reaction here, but Tybalt’s another story entirely. Mercutio: Now that you mention it, that sounds like a hell of a lot more fun! Hermia: It is! Oh, and if you really want to rile him up, mention the new memorabilia in his room, I promise it’s worth your time! Mercutio: I’m looking forward to this.

Juliette: Alright! Another A+!

As Juliette was celebrating her academic success, Tybalt spied a Monty in his room.

Tybalt: The hell are you doing in my room, Monty?! Mercutio: Whatever the hell I want, Crapp! Tybalt: Well I didn’t invite you, so you have to leave!

Mercutio: I don’t need your permission to do shit, Crapp! By the way, nice kitty stuff you got there! Are you that desperate for companionship that you blew your nonna’s inheritance on a crapton of cat shit!

Tybalt: I didn’t buy any of this cat shit! It was all in my room when I woke up this morning! I bet my ass that you snuck in and placed it all in here while you were kicking over our trash last night! Mercutio: If that’s the case then your ass is mine, Crapp, because I had nothing to do with this conspiracy of yours!

Tybalt: Damn, you’re annoying! Maybe you’ll go away if I close my eyes. Mercutio: Like that’s gonna help. Tybalt: Screw you! Mercutio: In your dreams.

Upon seeing that Mercutio was at her house, Juliette found herself in the mood for some loving from his little bro.

Romeo: I love my girlfriend. Juliette: You’re so smart, babe! Smart AND hot!

Not long after the two lovebirds made their way inside, Consort arrived home with his pregnant daughter in tow.

As soon as Consort walked through the front door, Hermia made a beeline toward him to ask for some help with her homework.

Hermia: Grandfather? I hate to be a bother, but can you please help me with my public speaking homework? I really need help with that subject, and I can think of no one better to help me than you. Consort: Of course, Hermia, I would be delighted. Hermia: A+ here I come!

Juliette was surprised to see her aunt coming home from work with her grandfather after what happened when they last saw each other.

Juliette: What are you doing here, Aunt Regan? Grandfather told us that you were on bed rest. Regan: I was, but I had a sales pitch that I couldn’t afford to miss. My doctor said it was fine for me to go provided I didn’t walk around too much and kept my stress levels down. Juliette: I see. Well, I’m glad everything’s okay. Regan: Thank you for your concern, Juliette, it means a lot. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to sit down somewhere, my feet are killing me.

After making sure her aunt wasn’t doing anything too reckless, Juliette made her way downstairs for a meal of mac n’ cheese.

Tybalt: I can’t believe I’m eating mac n’ cheese with a bunch of Montys. Hermia: C’mon Tybalt, they’re not that bad. Romeo: Yeah, we’re not that bad. Tybalt: I’d rather die than share a table with a Monty. Juliette: Is that so? Well, I heard the ghosts outside have been particularly angry as of late. Tybalt: Geez, Sis, has anyone ever told you how much of a bitch you are? Mercutio: Well, that’s one thing we can both agree on, Crapp. Tybalt and Juliette: Shut it, Monty!

And right on cue, the ghost of Julius Caesar decided to grace us with his presence.

Julius: HAS ANYBODY SEEN MY SON?!

Be patient dude, he’s coming.

After realizing his son was nowhere to be found that night, Caesar’s Ghost decided to haunt the inflatable pumpkin on the manor’s grounds. Meanwhile, Hermia and Regan are attempting to have a conversation in the background.

Julius: Woooo! I’m a SPOOOOPY pumpkin! Hermia: I swear, it’s like Paranormal Activity in this house. Nothing like my house back when my parents were still alive. Regan: Can we please change the subject? I’m getting the creeps just thinking about the night I saw my great-grandfather reenacting his death next to my bed. Hermia: Sure, Aunt Regan. What do you wanna talk about instead?

I honestly feel kind of bad for Hermia, because Regan’s idea of changing the subject involves talking about her sex life.

Regan: I'm telling you, Hermia. I’ve never had better sex in my entire life. I don’t know if it’s just the hormones, but goodness, my Corny certainly knows how to pleasure a woman. Hermia: Uh... Regan: Why, just the other night he --

Hermia: Aunt Regan? I know you’re trying to be cool, but I think telling your niece about your sex life isn’t exactly the right way to go about it. Regan: Oh, I see. I must have gotten a little carried away there. Hermia: A little? Regan: Yes, I didn’t mean to go into too much detail. I just thought it wise to let you know for future reference since neither of our mothers are here to tell you how amazing sex can be when you’re with child. Hermia: Right...um, thanks?

Caesar’s ghost continued to walk around the manor’s grounds after the residents went to bed and all the guests had left.

Also, a little fun-fact courtesy of someone who cares a little too much about this neighborhood for her own good: Despite having the family aspiration icon floating above his head, Julius Caesar is not programmed as a family sim. He actually has the unfinished “power” aspiration, which, from what I’ve read, is basically a mixture of the fortune and popularity aspirations, with the aspiration levels being the same as a romance sim’s. He’s not the only sim to have this aspiration either: The Grim Reaper, the Hula Zombies, the Pollination Technicians, the Ideal Plantsim, Rod Humble, and even the Penguin all have this aspiration as well (but it’s best not to check it if you’re not careful, as doing so will bork your game). Outside of those NPCs, there are other deceased sims in Veronaville with the Power Aspiration: Hamlet Dane Sr., Stephano Arlecchino, Momentilla Bramble, and Judith Dottore; however Caesar is the only one you’re able to resurrect in-game.

And let’s end the update with some more teen drama.

Tybalt: Your beauty sleep won’t change the fact that you’re ugly on the inside, Sis! Juliette: Well, at least I’m not ugly on both the outside and the inside. Tybalt: The hell did you just say?! Hermia: I’ll see myself out.

iPhone 11 vs iPhone X - and Why I Didn't Buy the iPhone 11 Pro

I’ll start off be talking briefly about my experience with the iPhone X.

Just over two years since Apple launched it’s flagship phone, featuring a new design, new construction and heavily updated hardware, the makers of all things sexy (that man can legally pay money for anyway) have released the iPhone 11.

While the iPhone 11 may not be distinctly different to any of its predecessors, the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max certainly are - just flip them over and take a look at the back - you’ll know what i mean.

Having got my hands on my iPhone X at launch in 2017, my excitement was quickly culled by a screen issue. Well, basically, it didn’t work - apart from flashing and showing me a few colourful lines, i couldn’t really use it.

A trip to the Apple Store, and an amusing comment about Samsung having supplied the screens for the X, i left with a new replacement.

Two weeks later, i was back at the Apple Store with exactly the same problem! I started November 2017 with an iPhone 7, and entered December on my third(!) iPhone X.

This third handset served me well, and didn’t really miss a beat until the summer of this year - then the problem began…

First, Face ID failed. It took me a couple of days to realise that every time i opened my phone, i had to use the passcode.

I made an appointment with apple, and they diagnosed a problem with the Face ID sensor - this despite the fact that Animoji’s still worked flawlessly! This was something no-one could really explain, and owing to the €585 repair cost from Apple, the nice employee there whispered that i could get €500 cash back for my iPhone X and then i could use the money to buy a different handset - the iPhone XR.

Now, i had done my homework before making this trip to the Genius Bar. I know, at worst, the Face ID sensor would cost around €90, and i’m no stranger to taking apart iPhones (I have daughters who like to break the screens on the things), so i thought i would repair it myself.

One hour, and €24 later, i had installed the new Face ID sensor, which by the way also contains the front camera and proximity sensor (the part which automatically adjusts the brightness, and plays voice messages through the ear piece when you lift the phone to your head). The problem still remained. Everything worked as it should - just no Face ID.

I decided to leave things as they were - there was no way i was paying Apples repair cost - they would probably have done the exact same thing i just did, with the same result!

Going back two months ago, the shit really started to hit the fan as far as my phone was concerned!

I noticed apps were complaining about not being able to use location services. Sure enough, when i opened maps i had no location. My family couldn’t find me anymore on apples stalking service either! GPS dead now too?

Then, sure enough, the next problem occurred. And then the next. And then the next.

At the point where it (or I) finally gave up, my as new on the outside, but completly rotten on the inside, boasted the following list of ailments:

Face ID sensor failure

Proximity sensor failure

GPS failure

Battery in 'service' condition

It rattled (?)

Battery from full would run down to 3% in a matter of minutes, then stay at 3% for several hours

SIM card not recognised / Searching for network

Screen hanged or shudder while animating

Gyroscopic senor failure (this is a guess, but when you picked the phone up and tilted it in any way it would swith off)

Eventually, 10 days ago, my iPhone X decided enough is enough, and refused to switch on for any longer than flashing the Apple logo at me for a second or two.

So, with all this in mind, a had to pull the trigger and get a new iPhone - but which of the iPhone 11 range would be best suited to me?

Being a photographer of course, the new tripple lens system of the 11 Pro really appealed. However, the standard Pro has the same size as the X, and i wanted more real-estate under my thumbs. So, the Pro Max was clearly the way to go right? Wrong. Here's why. In one sentence. 4 characters...

Yes, four-hundred-and-fifty-euros is what Apple deems a necessary bounty over the price of the standard iPhone 11. Why? Well, that's the big question! The short answer: A bigger, better screen, bigger battery (of course, it's a bigger phone) and the tripple lens rear camera.

My reasons for wanting the Pro Max were the camera system and the big-assed screen. However, there are two points of contention here for me where it makes it really difficult to justify the extra money:

1. The Pro Max features the tripple lens camera. BUT, the sparkly new toy of the ultrawide lens is available on the standard 11 at the cost of the telephoto lens of it's predecessor. The wide angle lens is the toy i wanted most, and the standard wide angle lens of the 11 is stablised and has up to 5x digital zoom - which in fairness is only really usable up to 2x - which is perfectly acceptable in most use cases.

2. The 11 is built around the chassis of the iPhone XR - which makes it, and therefore it's screen bigger that that of the iPhone 11 Pro. It's not that easy for me to understand why apple did this - they must of had a bunch of unused X and XR chassis hanging around in storage somewhere.

Of course, the 11 Pro Max is better, but just how much better? Here's a little, to-the-point-comparision to help you decide:

The Pro Max (both Pro's) has more RAM 6GB vs 4GB

The Pro Max has a better screen: 6.5'' vs 6.1'', 1242x2688 463dpi vs 828x1792 324dpi resolution and Retina vs LCD (as far as screen sizes go....it's a bigger phone! The 11 Pro for reference has a 5.8'' 463dpi retina display with 1125x2436 resolution.)

The 11 has the Aluminium/Glass construction, similar to that of the iPhone XR vs Stainless Steel / Glass akin to the rest of the X series - is this really a big concern?

Both Pro handsets have the tripple camera system - which we already covered.

The 11 Pro Max has 3400mAh battery - again, like the screen, it's a bigger phone, and that bigger screen needs more power - so this makes sense - and is it really an issue. The extra juice equates to about 3 hours more contiuous use over the 11 standard.

The forces swinging in favour of the 11 Standard vs the 11 Pro Max

Massive price saving - on contract up to €15 per month.

Same A13 processor as the Pro's.

Same 12mp f2.2 front facing camera with up to 120fps (in 1080p) video

Lighter weight compared to the Pros

Same 4k 60fps capability with the rear camera array.

Waterproof - just like the Pro's, allbeit up to two meters and not 4.

Same sound system as the Pro's.

Range of colours available (not that important to most).

All in all, my decision to pull the trigger on the 11 over the 11 Pro Max was influenced by not being able to justify the higher cost against the better quality screen, which most users won't notice anyway, and the extra camera, which the majority of users wouldn't miss either. Plus, i don't think i have any pants or jackets with pockets big enough for the Pro Max, which would mean i'd need to buy one of those silly round-the-neck-pouch-thingies!

Living with the iPhone 11

Well, it's been a good start!

There are, needless to say, some really noticable improvements in this phone when comparted to my iPhone X - apart from the obvious fact that it works!

The A13 processor is markedly faster than the A11 of the X. Lightning fast in fact. This has, so far, been most noticable for me when using Face ID. You look at the phone and it opens in the exact instant your face is in front of it. 4GB of RAM, compared to 3GB in X certainly play a role here too.

The screen is clear, sharp and blacks are nicer than on the X dispite only having an IPS LCD here - i really see no real disadvantage of not having the OLED of the X - it really is a pleasant experience. The larger screen of the 11 is really nice to have in a phone that is only 20g heavier. A 3110mAh battery means extra play-time when compared to the 2617mAh cell in the X. And the final, really noticable thing is the front camera. Snapping a selfie for the Mrs, it really is noticable there is an addition 5mp in the front camera!

So, what about the camera?

This is where things get fun.

Enter the camera app, and you're by default in the standard wide angle mode. Hit the 1x button to jump to ultra wide angle, and, fuuuuuuck! How does that happen! I love having a really wide, border fish-eye lens on a DSLR - and this thing is just as much fun!

Even though the screen is of a lesser resolution and pixel-density when compared to the iPhone X, images and videos just look so much better. This is potentially down to the new, faster A13 Processor combining with the new IPS LCD.

Portrait mode looks great and focuses better and faster than before. Although the filters on offer in portrait mode still leave something to be desired! One really cool feature of portrait mode, is now you can adjust the aperture when editing the shot afterwards, this adjusts how blurred the background is, which is pretty cool!

We also now have the ability to shoot 4k video at 60fps, which means when using the clips in editing software you can slow these down to 24-30fps and have slow motion which remains crystal clear and natively in 4k resolution!

As mentioned, the iPhone 11 packs 2 cameras, but unlike the X the 2x Optical telephone lens has given way to an ultra wide angle lens.

The specs:

26mm f1.8 Wide Angle, 6 element lens with 100% focus coverage and on-board image stabilisation. Focus areas as before can be selected in the camera app. This lens uses Apples new Deep Fusion engine. There’s no setting for this, and it only works with the ‘Photo Capture Outside the Frame’ turned off - more on this soon!

13mm f2.4 Ultra Wide Angle, 5 element lens with 120 degree field of view. Focusing on this lens is Phase Detection auto-focus. Which essential means you can't, and don't need to select your focus area. Selecting areas of the screen while in Ultra Wide will of course set your exposure levels as always in iOS.

Night Mode

Night mode is only available when using the default wide-angle lens. It effectively lengthens the shutter speed depending on what the phone decides the available light is. It really does work well, but i suspect there is some serious ISO hocus pocus going on behind the scenes, which could have a negative effect on what you can achieve in this mode.

So, be warned, Night Mode is cool, but your phone is slowing down it’s shutter speed, and it can shoot at 10 seconds depending on the light - so you need to keep still. The on board stabilisation of the wide angle lens will help you out to a degree - but anything over 2 seconds (which is shown in the moon logo on the top of the screen, and you’re gonna need some kind of tripod.).

Ready for something clever? And confusing?

Deep Fusion. Yeah we mentioned that already. Some kind of Apple hocus pocus going on in the background that only those in cahoots with the dark arts will understand. It makes pictures with the default lens look sexier - and that’s about it. We don’t need to know any more.

BUT

The camera has one final cool-assed feature…

When shooting in a 4:3 or similar ratio, the phone will effectively take an image of everything outside of the ratio up to the maximum ratio available. This means, you can come back later and expand the crop of an image to add the parts that were outside the frame of the original shot. Neat. Watch out though - this feature only works when it’s activated in the camera settings in the settings menu. Aaaaand when it is active, then Deep Fusion is no longer active! I said it was confusing right?!

Missing 3d touch?

Yup! It’s gone. Did you ever used to test your strength by pressing the bathroom weighing scales as hard as you could? Well, that experience with the iPhone has finally been taking away from us. Is it an issue? Well, we used to long press things to get them to move or provide an expanded menu so i’m not really seeing the issue. Many have complained, but many also complained when the headphone jack disappeared. No-one died right?

Conclusion

Well, it’s early days, and as you’ve seen by my two lazy-arsed pictures taken with the phone to demonstrate the wide-angle lens, i’ve not done much shooting with it. But i’m excited to. The ultra wide angle lens looks a lot of fun!

For users of the iPhone X, upgrading to the 11 is a must! For XR/XS users, if you don’t care too much for taking pictures then stay maybe stay where you are. The speed advantages of the new processor are really cool if you’re into gaming, but otherwise, sit it out - in September you’ll most likely be able to get the 11 at a bargain price.

If you’ve money to throw away, then get the normal iPhone 11 and send me the €450! Of course, if you’re a rapper, then your trousers will most likely have pockets large enough to accommodate the 11 Pro Max’s girth!

When You Are Planning To Buy A Smartphones Choose Best Provider

Investing in high-quality mobile phones for employees can increase productivity and connectivity, especially when your business uses work applications to get the job done. This smartphone purchase guide is built with the needs and constraints of small business owners in mind, many of whom lack internal IT talent and have limited experience in purchasing hardware for the group. By completing the steps outlined here, you should be able to eliminate the inappropriate options and find the right phone to help your team work efficiently.

Step 1: Select Your Smartphone Service Provider.

The first step before buying most commercial technology is to set a budget. However, for smartphones, this is tricky because long-term costs are related to the ongoing payment service and the hardware itself. In addition, the choice of service provider is just as important as the choice of mobile phone, because even high-end iOS devices are useless even without reliable coverage. For this reason, we encourage all small business owners to do their homework on the service provider before purchasing any equipment.

Step 2: Buy Ios And Android Devices.

For simplified mobile device management (MDM), we recommend that small business owners choose a common operating system for all their mobile devices. Using different versions of Android across devices is usually not a problem; however, managing Apple (iOS) smartphones and Android phones is not necessarily complicated.

Unless you have a good reason to choose iOS for your business, such as running a specific business application that only works with Apple products, Android is usually a better choice. There are more types of Android smartphones with more security features and a wider price, so if you avoid Apple, you will have more choices. If you choose to buy an iOS smartphone, you should expect each device to cost at least $750 at the low end, while a rugged Android smartphone can be purchased for as little as $130, and the most luxurious one can buy up to $1,000. If these numbers look shocking, keep in mind that many service providers include monthly financing in the service charge, so you are unlikely to pay the full amount in advance.

Step 3: Compare Specific Features.

At this point, you should narrow down the range of service providers and operating systems, so it's time to look at the specs to find the right smartphone for your employees. Not all specifications are critical to your purpose, so if you can't think of an OLED screen or a headphone jack, don't let these details affect your buying decision.

Battery

For business users, battery life can be a success or failure, as is charging time. When looking at the phone, keep in mind that the manufacturer claims that the battery life is like this - a claim. It is best to compare the claimed battery life published by the phone vendor with the battery life recorded by the review site for the phone. Unless your staff includes a field worker who has been deployed to a remote location for several days, a battery life of 6 to 8 hours is sufficient.

Camera

Most mid-range and higher-end smartphones come with dual cameras: front camera, self-portrait and rear camera. Self-timer cameras are especially important if your employees will use their mobile phones to video chat with customers. It may be helpful to read the comments on the smartphone camera and view the sample images, as you can test and drive different phones yourself. The reason we recommend this method instead of simply comparing the specifications is that the camera and lens specifications are relatively complex to see if you have no previous experience with the camera. But in general, most standard business users have acceptable cameras in phones over $500.

Display

Today, even low-end smartphones have a good display, and for most business users, the display won't be or damage the mobile device. However, there are some exceptions. If you have equipment that field workers often use extreme lighting (or lack of lighting), graphic designers or other creative employees who will use the phone for design work or other displayable scenes, you should look at the monitor specifications. Many high-end iOS and Android devices have OLED or AMOLED screens instead of LCD screens, so look for those descriptors and high resolution, which is determined by the dense PPI (pixels per inch) rate.

Port And Slot A surprisingly large number of new luxury smartphones no longer have a headphone jack. If you are not sure which type of port and slot your employees will use on a regular basis, ask them before making any purchase decisions. With the headphone jack, microSD and SIM card slots are widely used, so if you are not sure, please ask for this. If you plan to buy a smartphone without a headphone jack, you should factor in the cost of the wireless earbuds into your business hardware budget.

Processor

In the past five years, the way smartphones have been handled has changed a lot. Even low-end (less than $300) and mid-range ($300 to $500) smartphones have the ability to meet basic needs such as text messaging, web browsing and access to applications. If you want top performance, you can choose to use the $1,000 device on the fastest processor on the market, but it is certainly not the only viable option for business users. If most of the applications your employees will use are widely used business applications such as Evernote, Trello and Slack, the standard processing power should be fine. If your staff will use an application that involves processing large amounts of data or advanced visuals such as VR, MR or AR, choose a high-end smartphone.

Safety

As with design preferences, security requirements vary from user to user. If you need enterprise-class security features, you can benefit from choosing an established handset manufacturer such as Samsung. Samsung offers an add-on product called Samsung Knox, which is essentially a lightweight SaaS MDM solution. You can also choose a third-party MDM solution, but for micro-enterprise and solopreneurs, it may be easier to get everything from one provider.

Storage

Most business users do not need a lot of mobile phone storage, and may be in addition to mobile game developers or people who will spend a lot of time downloading and storing large amounts of sensitive data or media on their mobile phones. But in general, the 64GB of storage built into most smartphones should be enough.

Step 4: Buy A Smartphone For Your Business.

Hopefully, by now, you have identified one or two devices for most employees, and you can buy a smartphone for everyone on the team. Many SMB users choose multi-layer smartphones to meet the needs of their subordinate, mid- and senior employees. You may also want to consider investing in an MDM system to manage the hardware of your business.

Researc low-cost M2M router  hers Pinpoint the Source of a Mysterious Magnetism

In a newly published study, researchers from SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory proved that the magnetism in the LaAlO3/SrTiO3 heterostructure comes from the titanium atom.

Scientists from SLAC and Stanford have used finely tuned X-rays at the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL) to pin down the source of a mysterious magnetism that appears when two materials are sandwiched together.

Why is this mysterious?

Neither material shows a hint of magnetism on its own.

Both materials are perovskites, a class of mineral oxides whose unique electronic properties are of great interest to scientists. Perovskites already have a variety of industrial uses, and researchers are busy trying to find ways to transform some of them – such as the high-temperature superconductors – into materials that could transform our energy grid or help create environmentally friendly fuels.

These particular perovskites are known as LAO (lanthanum aluminum oxide) and STO (strontium titanium oxide), and both are insulators. But when sandwiched together, the resulting “heterostructure” can conduct electricity at the interface where the materials meet. In fact, w4g modem routerhen cooled to near-absolute zero this heterostructure becomes a superconductor, conducting electricity without any resistance. Even more puzzling, it displays magnetic qualities at the juncture where LAO and STO meet – something neither material does alone, even when doped with impurities to tune its properties.

Which particul healthcare  ar atoms acquire this new property? That&rsq Industrial IoT Router/Gateway  uo;s what the researchers wanted to learn, and the results of their study appeared this week in Nature Materials.

The researchers studied sample heterostructures, each one an extremely thin layer of LAO on an STO substrate. The samples were grown by the group of Harold Hwang of the Stanford Institute for Materials and Energy Sciences (SIMES), a joint SLAC-Stanford institute. Hwang is an expert in this heterostructure; he’s been studying it for a decade.

SSRL Staff Scientist Jun-Sik Lee said the group relied on one very important property of SSRL’s X-rays: They can be tuned to just the right wavelength to probe the properties of a specific element. In other words, the researchers could use the X-rays to look only at the titanium in the STO slice of the heterostructure, or only at oxygen.

Their investigation pointed to one culprit. “We’ve proved the magnetism comes from the titanium atom,” said Lee, though precisely what is causing this change in a fundamental property is unclear. What’s more, the magnetism arises in what’s called the “ground state” of the titanium atoms, when they are at their lowest energy. In fact, the researchers pursued magnetism in the titanium atoms all the way down to 10 kelvins, 10 degrees above absolute zero.

That’s intriguing, said Lee, because the structure of this magnetic ground state in the titanium of STO is the same structure required for it to be able to transition to a superconductor. This hints at the possibility the LAO/STO interface may exhibit another unconventional behavior: magnetism and superconductivity coexisting, a possibility that, said Lee, “is quite unusual in our conventional understanding of physics.” One of the identifying characteristics of a superconductor is the way it repels magnetic fields.

Unfortunately, the researchers weren’t able to study the magnetic titanium at temperatures low enough to cause the heterostructure to transition to superconductivity. However, their research does support the research of SIMES member Kathryn Moler, published in Nature Physics in 2011, in which her research team detected both superconductivity and magnetism existing at the LAO/STO interface.

Hwang noted that even after almost a decade of investigation by many groups worldwide, this seemingly simple interface continues to generate new surprises. “One of the dreams of our field is the notion of ‘materials by design,'” he said. “We hope that these studies of unexpected emergent phenomena, such as the magnetism here, can lead to an understanding by which we can predictably engineer the properties of artificial heterostructures.”

Chi-Chang Kao, director of SLAC and a co-author of this work, emphasized the close collaboration between the SLAC and Stanford members of the group. “The collaboration started from a series of meetings Harold organized to introduce his group’s research, and is a prime example of the kind of work suited to being tackled together, applying SLAC’s unique resources – such as SSRL – to the scientific problems of the SLAC and Stanford community,” he said. “There are many other examples, and I hope to foster even more of them going forward.”

As for next steps, Lee just laughed. “There are a lot of next steps,” he said. “We’ve passed on a very big question to everyone. We’ve said, ‘OK, we got this result – now we all have a lot of homework to do.'”
