nothing like having an epiphany about a repressed memory of almost dying as a 3 year old and being saved by my father in both this lifetime and my lifetime as Sizhui and then thinking I should probably fix the sign post my underclassmen trashed like nothing happened

I keep thinking about kins and what mine say about me!
Imo, they are a fun ways to interpret your own personality and make sense of your emotions from an outside perspective. They are also just fun!!!😋
I don't have that many but I think for now my biggest one is Lan Xichen. But for all the wrong reasons!!!😅
It came about cause people kept saying in the whole series I was most like like either him or Sizhui. 😄

gusubun asked:
grown or not...he is going to bury sizhui in rabbits. best to lay there and just let it happen. the rabbits will ensure that birthday wishes come true.
Sizhui was of a mind no matter how old he became or go. No matter if he went from being older brother or father figure he would always look up to Lan Wangji as his baba. He knew immediately where they were going when they went along the rounding path that led to the bunnies. Sizhui loved the bunnies as well and often would go out to feed them even when it was not his chore to do.
Tumblr media
They were in many ways siblings, he sat quietly among them and knew they would hop to him. He was a soft and peaceful sort when he had no reason to be rowdy. Then suddenly there was a flash back to his childhood. One bunny, two bunnies, three bunnie, four bunnies---he was being buried in bunnies again and while SIzhui was growing older there was no less delight and happiness to be among the soft fuzzy kin.
“Baba” he managed to get out but did not maintain his regal posture giggles escaped him as he was buried. He knew there was no getting out of it. The many bunnies were warn, with twitchy whiskers and of course they bounced and nosed at him for attention, or food. “I made my wish.” he laughed.  He did it was a tradition He wished for many times with his baba, with the bunnies, with his family. For their happiness because his own was tied to it.

Summary:
“Lan Sizhui. My friend. My kin. My brother in arms”. “I hear you”. “I’m dumb”. Lan Sizhui agrees internally, still having enough love and understanding towards his cousin to not voice his thoughts.

@multeasers asked
Tumblr media
[ mojito ]  what is one goal they are working towards? Immortality, even if Sizhui is unaware of it in some of his verses he is poised to become an immortal. So it is a goal he isn't even aware of but he is working towards it.
[ cosmopolitan ]  what is their happiest memory ever?
It would be between two moments before he remembered the things from his childhood it would be the day that he was give his ribbon by Lan Wangji, he was so proud to be a part of his family, and the sacred ribbon was just one step in that direction--also knowing what it meant to wear one, as his restraint, but also the fact that it bore the inner family cloud along it--meant that he was truly family to Lan Wangji. A little A-Yuan was overjoyed to finally be safe, to belong somewhere and to know he was loved and it wasn't going to be taken away from him. After memory is when he finally remembered that Wei Wuxian was his XianXian, it had been resurfacing for a long time and he was trying to buy a clue, all the way through the Coffin City arc, and after the Temple he finally knew, and the moment that he was able to hug the man who single handled saved him and his kin--even if they came to a bad end and all that was left was he and Wen Ning, he had his XianXian back.
+ [ old fashioned ]  what would their adult self tell their kid self if they could go back in time? If he was able to meet his child self he would not really tell him anything because he wouldn't want to run the risk of changing anything for him. He would have to endure. He would treat himself well and likely feed him as much as he could, knowing that he was malnourished by the time he got to the cloud recesses and that he would have been a taller boy, if he had not suffered from that--he would just tell him to not loose his sunshine. Something he totally wouldn't understand as a child he'd just be happy to have so much food--but would understand much later in life.

(to the previous anon)
ah I see, I’m still kinda new to being a fictkin in general as I only really realized earlier this month. It’s interesting to think how even before I realized I had a lot of similarities to the characters I kin. Practically everyone I know that also has compared me to my source or said my source reminds them of me including my own mother who I was somehow able to get into mdzs. She even said that when I was little I acted like my source (of course little too) like how I used to cling onto the people I liked’s legs and then she said I grew up to be like my grown up source too. It’s also interesting how bodily I’m about the same height as my source too, only one centimetre shorter. Or how my name in Chinese as my family is from Hong Kong also ends in hui. Like I parallel my source so much it’s crazy. My apologies for rambling.

I saw you were looking for nielan headcanons and couldn't resist offering this one up. It's been living rent-free in my head since I read saber sheathed.
LXC teaching little Jingyi Nie saber techniques, dressing him in Nie-patterned robes, etc. since he IS technically the Nie heir. And it makes him happy to see the best parts of NMJ reflected in their son.
The Lan elders are NOT happy about a Lan kid learning Nie techniques and dressing in such an un-Lan way, and try to put a stop to it ASAP. Maybe some of the other kids bully poor Jingyi for his un-Lan-ness too? :(
Up to you how LXC (with help from LWJ? LQR?) deals with the situation.
"Lan-zongzhu," Lan Yanjian declares, "It is high time something was done about that child."
Lan Xichen looks up from his papers, unimpressed: and not for the first time, curses the forty years between himself and this younger second cousin of his grandfather, who seems to believe he holds far more sway in their clan than he actually does.
“What does xiao-shugong imagine could be done?” he inquires, re-inking the tip of his writing brush. “Lan Jingyi is a child. He goes to his lessons, and plays with Lan Sizhui and his classmates, and does whatever the junior disciples do to occupy themselves, these days. What else is there to say about him?”
“Your favoritism has not gone unnoticed,” snaps Lan Yanjian. “The child forgets himself constantly, and you have done nothing to stop it. Improper dressing, improper sword forms, a tongue ill-befitting any child in whose veins runs the blood of Lan An--”
“Then our blood must be very poor indeed, if one child picking out new lapels for his clothes and learning saber forms from the Nie disciples would shame it,” Lan Xichen hums. “If that will be quite all, xiao-shugong, I am desperately busy today. You know, I might go so far as to say that I haven’t seen the sun since last week.”
“Lan Huan!”
“You may take the issue up with Shufu, if you like,” he says sweetly, “but I doubt it will go anywhere. The duties of the zongzhu’s immediate kin never end, you know--or perhaps you might not, considering...”
Lan Yanjian is gone before Lan Xichen can finish his sentence.
Lan Xichen laughs into his sleeve, and goes on with his audience reports.
He is still half you, my heart of hearts, he thinks. Still your baby, as well as mine. I have seen to it.
I will give him everything of yours that is mine to give; and someday, when Huaisang agrees, I will bring Jingyi to the shrine in the Bujingshi to see you, and pay his respects to you as your son.

Prompt: I don't know if you've seen this post, but I was immediately taken with the idea of Wangji and Sizhui being unknowingly blood related and finding out even later than Sizhui regaining his memories, and the upheaval it would cause in the Lans to have their Twin Jades be Wen, if you'd take inspiration from it :) over-the-misty-mountains. tumblr. com/ post/ 633693829282889728/ -🪐🦆🌌
A/N: This isn’t based on that specific idea, but hope you enjoy it anyway!
-
“Uncle?”
Lan Qiren looked up in surprise. Others might have difficulty parsing Lan Wangji’s emotions, but Lan Qiren had never had that issue, for better or for worse: Lan Wangji’s current tone might appear neutral on the surface but was in fact deeply distressed.
Moreover, Lan Wangji was not supposed to be here. He had been out on a night-hunt with Lan Sizhui, the two of them taking advantage of Wei Wuxian’s absence visiting the Lotus Pier to spend time with just the two of them, and they were not expected back until sometime in the afternoon the next day. And yet -  here they were, both of them, coming to his door when there was less than half a shichen left before they would all retire to sleep.
That fact, Lan Wangji’s tone, and Lan Sizhui’s face – twisted into an expression of mixed shock and concern and curiosity – all indicated that something had gone amiss.
“Are you well?” Lan Qiren asked, putting aside the guqin in front of them and waving them in. “What happened to bring you back so early? Were either of you..?”
“We are unharmed, Great-Uncle,” Lan Sizhui assured him, which only meant physically.
“Wangji?” Lan Qiren asked.
Lan Wangji seated himself in front of him, Lan Sizhui following his example. “Uncle,” he said again, and his tone was – perturbed, Lan Qiren decided, rather than actively upset. That was something, at least. “I have a question.”
Lan Qiren nodded permission.
“My mother…”
Lan Qiren did not flinch, but it was a matter of self-control. He had promised himself long ago that once his nephews grew old enough to understand, he would allow them to ask any questions they wished and hold nothing back – and yet it had always been Lan Xichen who had asked, never Lan Wangji, even when Lan Qiren suspected the questions had come from Lan Wangji originally.
Although he supposed Lan Xichen, still in seclusion, was no longer an option…
(His heart hurt for his eldest nephew, so cruelly deceived and used by those he loved most. He had tried so hard to keep him from such a fate, and had been just as unsuccessful as when he’d tried to keep Lan Wangji from loving Wei Wuxian.)
“Yes?” he prompted when Lan Wangji did not continue. “What about her?”
“Was she – surnamed Wen?”
Lan Qiren blinked. “What?”
“We encountered an array during our night-hunt,” Lan Sizhui said quietly. “It was designed by some unknown ancestor with a preoccupation with bloodlines – the array could only be opened by cultivators who were blood related. We had initially planned to send a message back to the Cloud Recesses to request assistance, and yet found that…there was no impediment.”
Lan Qiren was no fool: he had known of Lan Sizhui’s origins from long before, having looked into it at once when Lan Wangji had first brought him to the Cloud Recesses as a child. And even if he didn’t, Lan Wangji’s adopted ward, who was later claimed by Wei Wuxian, shadowed lovingly by Wen Ning – he would have to be dead and stupid if he hadn’t figured out by now what Lan Sizhui’s original surname had to have been.
“Hanguang-jun’s lineage on his father’s side is well known,” Lan Sizhui continued. “And so we thought…perhaps…”
Lan Wangji’s face was carven as if in stone.
Braced for a blow.
Lan Qiren exhaled slowly.
“No,” he said, and they both looked at him, surprised. “She was not. As far as we have ever been able to determine, your mother had no living kin. If she did, I would have told you long ago and sought to contact them on your behalf, no matter who they were.”
He saw the minute relaxation in Lan Wangji’s shoulders – he had guessed his nephew’s concerns correctly, the fear of realizing that his trust had been truly breached, that the Dafan Wen had been even more cruelly abandoned than he’d thought. But then, a moment later, true puzzlement entered Lan Wangji’s eyes.
Lan Qiren cleared his throat.
“You have supposed the issue from the wrong end,” he said, and turned to look at Lan Sizhui. “The relation is not Wangji’s mother, but rather – yours.”
Lan Sizhui’s mouth dropped open.
“The matter was uncertain,” Lan Qiren said, his hands folded together. “And it was only recently, when the Ghost General returned, that I was able to confirm my suspicion…it did not seem to me to be necessary to mention it to you, as you had already been part of our family for so long. I see now that that was an error.”
One of many. He was only human, could only try his best, and yet he had made many errors, almost always as pertained to family.
“My mother was – Lan sect?” Lan Sizhui asked, puzzled. “But the family records – I didn’t think there was any recorded marriage between the Lan sect and Wen sect anywhere in the last three generations.”
Lan Wangji’s fingers tightened on his knees. “There was no marriage,” he concluded, correctly. If there had been a marriage, it would have been recorded no matter what the elders felt about it. Just as Lan Wangji’s marriage had been recorded.
“No marriage? Then how –” Lan Sizhui fell silent.
He knew, too.
“We believe that your mother was Lan Yanmei,” Lan Qiren said. “A cousin, from my own great-uncle’s line of descent. Her name is listed in the family record.” He paused briefly. “Her death is listed as taking place during the burning of the Cloud Recesses.”
She did not die then, of course, although they had – hoped. But their hope was in vain; she would live at least one more year before dying, a life in misery and despair that ended, according to a guilty Wen Ning, by her own hand. If Lan Qiren has one consolation, it was that Wen Xu preceded her to the grave.
Lan Sizhui nodded slowly, his eyes distant, but Lan Wangji looked at Lan Qiren sharply. He remembered, even if it had not yet occurred to Lan Sizhui, that Lan Sizhui’s childhood education had largely been handled by Lan Yanying, a quiet girl whose older sister had been lost in the war.
“You have always been a member of this family,” Lan Qiren told Lan Sizhui, ignoring his nephew for now. “As you would be even if you did not share a drop of our blood. Any questions you have, we will answer, but know that it does not change the degree of affection that we bear for you.”
Lan Sizhui murmured a thanks and excused himself with a salute, followed shortly by Lan Wangji.
Lan Qiren sighed, but turned back to his guqin.
He could only do what he thought was best, whether for his nephews, who he loved as sons, or those they had claimed as their own. He would make mistakes – had made terrible mistakes – but he hoped that they knew that he did it out of care.
Lan Wangji would be back to discuss it, he was sure. Or perhaps, if he were lucky, he would do what he did as a child and send Lan Xichen.
It would be good to see Lan Xichen again.
