Trinkets Chart for Darkon

I enjoy making trinket charts for DnD. I made this d100 one for my DnD game that's set entirely in Darkon, which I've called The Iron Crown. There's a lot of easter eggs in here, but thought this could be a fun thing to share on a Friday morning while I ignore my actual job.

And here's the consolidated list (mostly?) All from Diamond in the Rough, character notes below cut (not in same order as pics)

Considered a few different systems for assigning gems (gemstone family, value, etc.) but ultimately just went with color/relative familiarity of gem. There’s so many cool gems out there~ (I was trying to not be too repetitive with types/use more common ones though Quartz has a million interesting varieties!)

Mega Man, Blue Sapphire Sphere I wavered a lot on his ‘trinket’, Sapphire seemed obvious (especially with Proto being a ruby, both are corundum gemstones) but also considered blue diamond, alexandrite (blue/purple color shift), and aquamarine. For the jewelry, was also considering an atomic model (for chemistry?), a screwdriver, and slightly regretting not considering circlet

Roll, Amethyst Earring: primarily always wanted amethyst, but also considered heliodor, padparadscha sapphire (but it wasn’t quite the right color? and perhaps too obscure), tanzanite, morganite, zoisite, kunsite, iolite, (purple gems etc.) For shape, was considering spikes/fangs though that’s also Treble and Punk’s lol

Bass, Emerald Snake Arm Cuff: loosely based on a real arm cuff I saw in a book. Also considered black diamond, green diamond (he’s the titular ‘diamond in the rough’), and black opal

Proto Man, Ruby Aviator Badge: I went with ruby in the end, which seemed most obvious choice, but also considered red diamond and bixbite (red beryl)

Elec Man, Black Opal Ring: Also considered chatoyant Sapphire, Alexandrite (??? color shift?), chrysoberyl, angelite/anhydrite, and even hawkeye quartz (loosely inspired by a real hawkeye ‘lightning’ ring, before that I was thinking cufflinks, but seemed weird for him to become either a pair of gems, or even a single cufflink lol)

Jewel Man, Colorless Beryl (Goshenite) Monocle - also considered rock crystal, diamond, and Padparadscha sapphire. Apparently both beryl and rock crystal were historically used for eyeglasses. Monocle is a reference to gentleman thief archtypes, also they are just fancy. (Also I realized while drawing this that having a plique a jour monocle chain is probably super impractical, oh well lol)

Top Man, Imperial Topaz  Pendant in a Jeweled Egg - also considered alexandrite and spinel (for the pun, heh) and spessertite

Kalinka/Mega Girl, Rose Quartz Blossom Barrette: Pink :) though I considered other lesser known (but more valuable) pink gems

Quint, Alexandrite Wristwatch: Quint is a time traveler (of sorts), also considered model armillary sphere/astrolabe, a screwdriver, and jade or malachite or nanocrystal

Wily, Agate Cameo Belt Buckle: Loosely inspired by his skull belt in some of his game art, also considered amythist

Dr. Light, Alabaster bead on a bookmark tassel:  Dr. Light likes books! Was also considering rock crystal and goshenite

Ring Man, Zircon Hoop Bracelet: Reference to both his namesake and his carney background. Was also considering class ring (before assigning the ring to Elec Man) and a circlet. ‘Zircon’ just sounds circusy, must be the Z

Magnet Man, Garnet Horseshoe Amulet: garnets are apparently magnetic, also considered fridge magnet

Cut Man, Citrine Paperknife: for obvious reasons. I also considered topaz for the gem

Guts Man, Tourmaline Paperweight: funny/fitting pairing with the paper knife, the shape is in reference to the boulder he holds in game art (for a brief week, was a rock crystal until I realized those are clear lol smokey quartz would have made more sense)

Punk, Spinel Motorcycle Chain: ‘Spinel’ may be a derivative from Latin ’spina’ which means thorn

Rush, Labradorite Bone Collar Tag: Went for the pun!

Treble, Howlite Fang: and ditto for Treble

Blitzø Redesign🐴

Made my own redesign on Blitzø for fun! There’s a lot I love such as the trenchcoat jacket, the circus motif, the facial marking, spikes, the boots, the pendant, etc.

Toned down the circus motif, going for subtle ringmaster vibes especially with the jacket, mixed with dark business attire. To give off how he tries to hide and move on from his past, similar to Moxxie as @a-sterling-rose pointed out but also too connected to just go cold turkey from it.

Added a waist belt with a buckle to look like a crossed out Ø.

Changed the red striped shirt to a collar shirt with a button up vest and dark turtleneck top underneath. Also added a ribbon tie with his moms pendant!

reshaped his moms skull pendant to be heart shaped ❤️. Added a little crack at the top💔…show it got damaged.

Added some tears to his pants. Also made his jacket more ragged & tattered and added some scrunch on his boots. To give off a guy who’s been through some scuffles.

Instead of the eye gloves, I added light yellow X’s.

Added more colors to help his look stand out but also incorporate the rest of I.M.P’s colors. Dark Red for Milllie, light yellow for Moxxie and dark navy blue for Loona❤️💛💙

Kept the red, black & white but also added more gray to give off how he’s a gray character(doesn’t do the greatest things and has made big mistakes but at the same time cares about others, trying to be better and improve).

Made his scars sharper to show where he got hit and added discolouration to his eye as it also got hit in the crossfire🔥 Also made his right hand white to show it got hit by the fire.

Added more asymmetry with his horn patterns, face, eye colors and hand colors.

I like when his design leans more to reptilian vibes so I went with that 🦎 especially since it’s implied his dad has some greed roots and it’s shown they have reptilian type hellborns. Gave him talons like Barbie does.

Curled his horns for a more circus vibe and to look like Barbies more. Also why I gave him talons and reshaped his head as her head also looks more reptilian.

Made his eyes more pinkish to lean towards lust roots more, having his moms eyes who's implied to be part succubus. Good chance the facial markings from her and that it was made to be their Circus’ symbol and added unto others painted like Fizz & Cash.

Made his tail more heart shaped, not to give off lust roots from his mom more but also to give off a broken heart on account of all his relationship issues💔. Also added round holes on the side to give off his marking too! Also added more stripes.

for the logo I made it a little name tag on the front of his jacket. I considered putting it in the back of the jacket but he also has spikes and I figure this also helps give off professional business vibes.

Also made designs of Moxxie, Millie, Loona & Stella🐊🐂🐺🦢

DCA Info Part 63: Halloween Outfits

Jinlong as Thorn Dragon

Much like how Diasomnia's costumes were based on Jiangshi, hoping vampires in Chinese folklore and their theme was based on East Asian Dragons, Jinlong's costume is based on western dragons, the kind commonly seen in fantasy literature or fairy tales.

In the Prototype, the outfit consisted of a gray gown with a gold and black collar, armor like accessories above the elbow, a belt and cuffs. The skirt appeared to have a slit at the side that reveals purple ruffles. The outfit also includes a pair of gray stockings with thorn detailing and black heels with gold trim and soles.

The Final Version of this costume has the colors differ greatly, now having a purple and black color scheme with the interior of the skirt being green and now having black ruffles. The outfit now has a pair of silver and black heels and purple stockings with roses and thorns. The gown additionally includes a chain attached to the belt buckle and said chain is attached to a heart charm with a sword in the center.

Elu as Bear Totem

Inspired by the world of Brother Bear, Elu's ensemble is based on Kenai, the protagonist of Brother Bear.

In the Prototype, the costume consisted of a tan parka with white fur trim, diamond like designs on the upper sleeves, and bear claw markings. The rest of the outfit consisted of a blue necklace with yellow diamonds and a bear in the center, a brown belt, a brown skirt and pants, with the pants having diamond like designs and brown shoes.

The Final Version of this costume keeps the costume mostly the same but the colors have been changed and the bear claw markings have been replaced by the same diamond like designs.

Allison as Rag Bones

This lolita like ensemble is inspired by Jack Skellington and Sally from Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas.

In the Prototype, the costume consisted of a yellow dress shirt layered underneath a black and white striped bolero blazer with gray trim and bows, also included was a black bowtie with a gray cat pendant with wings that resembled those of a bat. The skirt was designed with a patchwork like feel to it, with the skirt having three colors, green with stripes and spots, yellow with black dots and purple with stripes. Also included was a waist chain that consisted of black, purple and orange beads and having charms that resemble candy corn, a star, a moon and a jack o lantern.

The Final Version of this costume is slightly altered, with the dress shirt now being purple and the bolero blazer now having orange stripes and bows, as well as having puffs. The chain of beads is now gold and features skulls and the skirt now has a red tartan part replacing the green portion. The skirt's interior is also now purple. The stockings are made to resemble stitched up legs and feature the same patterns on the skirt. For footwear, Allison sports a pair of black loafers. Allison wears a black headband with a pumpkin on it and the pumpkin has purple bat wings. On the topic of wings, Allison also sports a pair of fake wings that resemble those of a bat with black trim and the interior being purple with Halloween patterns on it.

Briar as Wilting Baby's Breath

Resembling a wedding dress, this costume is inspired by another one of Tim Burton's films, Corpse Bride, with the outfit being based on Emily, the titular corpse bride.

In the Prototype, the costume consisted of a white sweetheart wedding dress with baby's breath flowers on the left side of the bodice and white roses on the right of the two layered tattered skirt.

The Final Version of this costume remains mostly untouched but now includes a blue bead chain around the waist and the second layer of the skirt is now sparkly blue with swirl like patterns. The dress also appears to have a baby blue tint. Briar also wears a pair of pale blue heels with white stockings. Briar accessorizes with a blue tattered veil with baby blue roses and a pair of white gloves with the left side having ribbon.

"As Agent Mulder Says, There Are Many Different Kinds of Vampires"

He was a random man-- that was all Scully could think as she rounded the motel bed and found a jean-jacketed redhead bent above her partner, mouth attached to Mulder's neck. For a split second her mind played games, reintroduced the gasping phone call to make this a less horrifying reality; but that ended when her partner's assailant raised his head and snarled at her, eyes glowing outlandishly green as blood poured over the enhanced incisors in his mouth. As a doctor, she knew that quantity of blood likely came from the two strategic punctures on her partner's neck. As a woman, she couldn't believe in that scientific possibility for a split second.

In that moment, smalltown attacker charged.

To her horror, scientific probability truly betrayed her then. Though Scully was shooting before she hit the ground, John Doe effortlessly took each bullet to the chest, jerking left and right, left and right with every hit. Finally, spitting blood all over her face, he dug his fingers into her shoulders and slammed her hard against the ground, purposefully knocking the back of her skull over and over into the carpet. Dazed, a fuzzy wave of disassociation washed over her even as Scully felt two (oddly unstable) incisors sink into her neck.

There was a wail of pain-- she thought it was her own-- before everything became a blur of motion: thuds and thrashings, a violent crack of ripping wood, and an anguished gasp for mercy before it crescendoed into a shriek of agony.

Then Mulder appeared in front of her calling "Scully, Scully" as his hands fluttered to her face before sliding down, back and forth in the blood across her neck. Scully's vision cleared enough to see Mulder's eyes glow an unnatural green.

Scully listened to her partner call in the incident while trying not to think of the facts: that an impaled body was sprawled out on the motel floor, that her eyes looked sick and traumatized, and that her partner's carotid artery stopped bleeding sometime between Ronnie's second attack and his death.

A sharp, burning pain wrapped around her throat; and she dropped the wet washcloth to shakily slap around, find the source. Her necklace sizzled, twisting and crackling across her traumatized skin. Scully scrambled to unclasp it as the agony heightened-- and pulled away, horrified, when her fingertips scorched on the cross pendant.

Mulder ran in immediately to help and made flinching noises as he feverishly finished the job. With a final tormented yelp, he dropped it into the sink, both of them looking from the tiny chain halfway down the drain to the red mark blooming into a cross below her clavicles.

Her tears hadn't stopped since she'd sobbed, "Am I denied my faith because of what I am?" Hours and hours later they stood in her motel room after Mulder wrapped up the witness statements with Sheriff Hartwell, Scully's necklace between layers of cheap tissue, and Scully herself in a firming embrace.

Both of them rushed out before dawn when a herd of wild Texan RVs squealed out of the lot, effectively emptying the entire town in under ten minutes. With two hours to spare before the sun rose, Mulder retrieved his phone from the pocket at her side and yelled "Call Skinner!" before running out to investigate whatever was left.

Scully was thankful for the fifteen spare minutes he gave to collect herself. Five of those fifteen were spent breathing her professionalism back to life.

Agent Scully could neither confirm nor deny Agent Mulder's claims that Ronnie Strickland's abhorrent actions were tied to the alleged nature of his vampirism. However, she could state for the record that perhaps his collaborators-- or Mr. Strickland himself-- would be able to explain his actions more thoroughly, as any evidence had disappeared along with his body and the vanished residents of Chaney, Texas.

The Doctor of the Luna Witch Coven, Aspen Ecko, is a young medical student who wants to use science and medicine to help people and society evolve and stir away from the beliefs that witches can only do harm. However much he doesn't like to admit, he might have to reply on his own magic to help him out a little, but he is confident he can do it.

He is very smart, genius in fact, loves reading and stays up late studying medicine and practising spells and charms. He also has particular love for horses as he thinks they are majestic creatures.

BORLEY RECTORY

At midnight on February 27, 1939, "the Most Haunted House in England" burned itself down in an inferno of anguish after a century of ghostly existence. Captain W. H. Gregory, the owner, watched a pile of books throw itself over, breaking an oil lamp, which quickly poured its blaze throughout the Borley Rectory. Screams from the fiery, vacant house filled the night. Excavations later revealed a woman's skull and religious pendant under the foundations.

The bleak, twin-gabled Victorian mansion in Essex County was built on the site of an old Benedictine monastery, erected in 1362. Legend tells of a monk and a nun who wanted to elope, but were caught before they could. He was hung. She was bricked up alive. The Reverend Henry Bull added a wing to the existing structure in 1863. His family was plagued with ghostly activity for the next sixty years: phantom coaches, whispering voices, stomping footsteps on the stairs, bells ringing, writing on the walls, objects disappearing and reappearing, stone falls, headless specters, keys throwing themselves from locks, unexplainable cold spots, and other ghostly phenomena. One daughter's sleep was broken by a handless slap on her face. Most commonly reported was the nun, gliding along a dark path named the nun's walk. Organ music and eerie chants echoed from the nearby Borley Church.

In 1929, famous supernatural researcher Harry Price was asked by a national newspaper to investigate. Price picked forty people "of leisure and intelligence" to spend the night at the rectory. They watched objects move, saw soap sail through the air, and felt the temperature plummet. One guest was locked into the dining room by a ghost. The key was on the inside, with him. I've been struggling to write much of anything lately so these are very likely to get scrapped in the end, but what the hell.

I've been working on writing Kit's main timeline out in full rather than just shorts because it was feeling disjointed to me. So here we are right from the very opening in the helicopter:

She’d personally seen the footage of him crush a man’s eyes from his very skull all while touting that he was a religious man who heard the voice of God. It only sunk in just how deep they were as they flew to the compound, into the heart of the cult’s territory. They were utterly alone out here, a few against the many. Legion. Burke, the US Marshal who had dragged them into this, sat across from her. His face was gruff but there was an undeserved smugness to it, like he somehow thought these were all the numbers he'd need to take on an army of half-crazed believers who'd put their faith and their lives in the hands of a man and his siblings. But she knew better. 9mm handguns wouldn’t be enough to quash the hordes. It was like snapping elastic bands at a dragon, all they’d end up doing was pissing them off. But it wasn’t her place to argue or complain, she was given her orders and she’d see them through, for better or for worse. 

The mood in the copter was tense, she hadn't felt this sort of tightness in her chest since she'd gone to war twelve years ago. Flying over the grounds that led to Joseph's compound was eye-opening for Kit. She'd never flown over them before. She'd driven the roads, travelled all the way up into the Whitetails and down to the Henbane, but the Valley was where she spent most of her time and being up above it all suddenly made the life she had seem very small, sheltered even. 

The massive statue of Joseph put her at unease. Religion had always made people do stupid things. To act out in ways where there was a for and an against and there was always bloodshed. It begged for war. She'd seen it herself, been wrapped up in the middle of it and now here she was facing that same type of enemy again. Someone who thought they knew what an unknowable God could possibly want, someone who claimed to be His messenger. A shiver coursed down her spine, it seemed to be a shared feeling as the other Deputies and Whitehorse all became more skittish at the sight of the Peggie idol.

At the compound, smoke rose up into the air. The already dying light of dusk greyed out even further by the fires scattered as their source of light below. Rows of white houses and sheds surrounded the old weather worn church. It looked like a ghost town from up above, no power, paint peeling from the wood walls, seemingly abandoned. But knowing this was where the Father presided meant all of its appearances were a lie. This was a viper’s nest and they were about to walk right in.
