Several are my beloved and supportive friends B'*)#This comic in particular is one that I've been thinking about for a very long time and I'm so happy to finally be here!#I was trying to think about how to explain the social rules of the forehead ribbon and the reason lwj was so upset #and the metaphor of 'it's kind of like wwx accidently undoing lwj's bikini in front of a crowd.' came to mind.#of course there's a bit more to it than that but the point here is that - accident or not - it still embarrasses lwj #wwx doesn't get the entire context behind it (at the time. Now he *does* and it all makes a bit more sense)#But he knows he made lwj upset. He knows he doesn't want to put lwj in another embarrassing situation.#Not after all this. Not after everything. I think the thing with perfume sensitivity that gets me so good is the fact that like, there's such a strong degree of separation from the cause, and yet such a strong connection to it, too.

Like, with something like chhinkni, you have to intentionally put it in your nose. Yeah that's hot, yeah it's hot that it works so effectively, but there's some extra intentionality to it that makes it somewhat stale after a while.

With something like pollen, or even dust (which is maybe my second favorite in this respect?) it's more of an ambient type thing. You can directly relate it to its cause (a flower covered in pollen, a dusty cabinet, etc) but it's still generally the ambient particles in the air that are causing the actual effect. It feels like too much separation to me--still nice, but feels more like a natural sneeze if anything.

Perfume is like the perfect blend, not to mention it's typically very effective if you're actually sensitive.

It's got the intentionality--you have to buy it, spritz it--release it from its cage, as it were. And from there, it's got the ambient power--logistically speaking, it's the particles of the scent getting up your nose, particles which are particularly concentrated in the bottle for this purpose, but more than anything, it's the scent--it's this sticking, very slowly dissipating concentration of scent which hangs in the air and sticks to everything it touches, in turn making that thing a new source for the scent.

You generally can't see it. But you'll know it's there, you can feel its presence, even from this distance. Even this far from the initial spritz.

You can feel its aura. And it's gonna make you sneeze.

Hello! I love your work esp your comics and am wondering if you have any tips on drawing architecture and backgrounds? 😇

the only tip I have for drawing backgrounds is get comfortable drawing boxes. you can figure out how to draw just about anything if you can draw a box. what's a street and all the props on a street but a bunch of boxes on a perspective grid, etc.

additionally

-Framed Ink/Framed Perspective for learning about compositions

-the Etherington Brothers' tutorials is a great place to start if you're just getting into the backgrounds/environments game

-Thomas Romain's tutorials/art advice

there's also a bunch of great tutorials on youtube on the subject of background drawing depending on what you want to accomplish!

#my thing about architecture is that sometimes you just gotta sit down roll up your sleeves and do it #translators note: do it = observational drawing and then make creative decisions from there #<< this is largely my approach for learning a lot of things. master studies of the titans of background illustrations too #many a terrible attempt to study AKIRA's backgrounds exist in my older sketchbooks before i realized i should break things down into #boxes haha #ask tag #even now i tend to take the shirow miwa approach to backgrounds lmao (minimalist backgrounds) because i kind of #find doing prop work tedious
