Disney Branded Television Greenlits ‘Sofia the First: Royal Magic,’ Sequel To ‘Sofia the First’ Slated For A 2026 Release Date.
Today, Disney Jr. announced a series greenlight for “Sofia the First: Royal Magic” a continuation of “Sofia the First” and remains one of the most successful global preschool franchises for The Walt Disney Company. The spin-off got picked up for development back in November 2022 under the working title ("Royal Prep Academy")
“Sofia the First: Royal Magic” follows Sofia as she attends The Charmswell School for Royal Magic, where princes and princesses from across the EverRealm will continue their royal studies and also learn all types of magic. During her time at Charmswell, Sofia discovers she is the most magical princess in the realm and must learn how to master her powers while making new royal friends. Each episode will contain two 11-minute stories, each with a new original song.  The sequel is created and executive produced by original series creator Craig Gerber. Ariel Winter (“Modern Family”), who voiced the role of Sofia, in the original series, is set to reprise her role. Additional casting will be announced at a later date. Many of the creative team from “Firebuds” are involved in this series, including Krystal Banzon as co-executive producer and story editor, Kris Wimberly as supervising director, and Craig Simpson as producer. The series is produced by Disney Television Animation. The new series is currently in production and is slated for a 2026 premiere on Disney Jr. and Disney+
Gerber added, “I’m incredibly excited for the chance to return to Sofia’s enchanted world and tell the next chapter in her story. At a new school specializing in royal magic, Sofia will learn how to master her magical abilities while discovering the power of friendship and teamwork from her new royal classmates. Over the years, I have heard countless stories of how much the original series meant to young viewers and I’m hoping the new show will delight the next generation of preschoolers.”
Ayo Davis, president, Disney Branded Television and VP of Current and Development at Disney Television Animation said, “Since its debut in 2012, ‘Sofia the First’ captured the hearts and imaginations of preschoolers everywhere for its beloved characters, memorable music, adventurous spirit and meaningful storylines. The enduring charm and appeal of Sofia is undeniable, and we’re excited to continue sharing her journey in ‘Sofia the First: Royal Magic.’”
The “Sofia the First” franchise still holds the record for the Top 3 cable TV telecasts for Girls 2-5 and, lifetime to date, has garnered over 755 million views on Disney Junior YouTube.
Sofia The First: Royal Magic is one of the many projects by Disney Television Animation to introduce the studio's iconic franchises and charactes to a new generation of fans, other projects include "The Proud Family: Louder And Prouder", Disney Junior's "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse 2.0", "Phineas And Ferb" as a revival and a reboot of "Darkwing Duck" by Point Grey Pictures (Nickelodeon Animation Studios "Tales Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles")
New interations of "TaleSpin" also by Point Grey Pictures (Nickelodeon Animation Studios "Tales Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles") & "Recess" with the original creators are in very early development at the studio.

Rant alert
If Sofia the First: Royal Magic is a massive flop I will unbury Walt Disney himself and make him roll is his grave.
I loved how in the original they kept bringing back old characters and referencing previous scenes and events, I love it when shows do that.
Normally pieces of media revolve around the main characters and how they interact with the world around them, sure it builds a story but it mostly builds a story of the main characters and a surface level view of the world around them. Obviously there are exceptions and minor characters who have effected the main characters growth in an important way sometimes get brought up again in passing thought or sometimes make small cameos. However, I love it specifically when minor characters are brought up repeatedly both in passing thought and in physical presence because it builds on a stories world in a more in depth way. You aren't only focusing on how the world has effected the main characters, you are also focusing on not only how the world has effected the side characters but also how the main characters have effected the side characters. It builds on how the world is structured and how much of an effect the main characters have had on the world around them through the side characters. It makes the world you're viewing seem more alive in a way because you get to know every aspect about it. Sofia the First. There's so much to go over that I won't do a complete deep dive. Cedric. Cedric the person who got hands down the BEST character arc in the show. Cedric's progression as a person from misunderstood to villain to hero was AMAZING. I love how you can actively see the development in his character in most, if not all, of the episodes he's in. I love how in each of those episodes you can SEE the effect that Sofia has on his confidence in every episode he's in. I love that he isn't taken as just a joke. He's taken as a person. He's developed as a person. I might go in depth of each of the episodes he's in but somebody who I think does a really great job of explaining Cedric's growth throughout the show is Rockotar on youtube. (Also I ship Cedric and Greylock.) Hugo. Hugo's development as character who went from actively pushing gender norms to defying them with the help of Sofia was great in my opinion. He goes from being the antagonist pushing the belief that activities are rightfully separated by gender to defying that separation himself. I love the fact that it isn't shown as something he just thinks, it's a belief that started due to his own father's beliefs. A belief that he grows out of directly due to the help of Sofia. He grows so much in just a couple episodes and it's great. Of course there are a lot more characters that have shown growth in Sofia the First, some others being Miss Nettle, Princess Vivian, Amber, and Kazeem, but this is getting long. So, I wont go on about characters and I'll keep the scenarios built up short. Some aspects I liked about Sofia the First were, Sofia's influence to the students and staff members of Royal Prep, The Secret Library, and Sofia's adventures in the mystic isles as a protector, it shows the effect Sofia has on the world around her. This doesn't mean that shows that don't have this aspect are immediately bad or shows that do have it are immediately good, also some shows just don't have the correct plot for this aspect or they don't focus on the right things for this aspect to really be needed, but it's something that I liked about Sofia the First that I really hope they bring back and stick with. It made the world feel so much more alive than if Sofia just moved on from each character without any real growth among the. It also made it more realistic in a way than if Sofia moved on from each character with them instantly being changed in a single episode. I may have gotten some things wrong or repeated some things, if I did feel free to let me know. This really was just a yap session on how much I love the story telling in Sofia the First. Let me know if I should continue this with a more focused perspective on certain characters or situations/episodes. (Also I did have to cut like 5 whole paragraphs out so lemme know if you wanna see those.) If Sofia the First: Royal Magic is a complete flop I will cry and pretend it never existed.

Plot description of Royal Magic, the sequel to Sofia the First
(wow, I was still a kid when the original was airing. and I'm a teenager now, waiting for the sequel to release lol)
"Sofia the First: Royal Magic follows Sofia as she attends The Charmswell School for Royal Magic, where princes and princesses from across the EverRealm will continue their royal studies and also learn all types of magic. During her time at Charmswell, Sofia discovers she is the most magical princess in the realm and must learn how to master her powers while making new royal friends. Each episode will contain two 11-minute stories, each with a new original song."
what interests me here is Sofia finally realizing she's kinda OP for her age and the 11 min episodes. the former is funny, the latter is gonna be interesting because I think they could do something cool with shorter stories, but it's probably not too much to worry about because we'll probably get important 22 min episodes too
either way it'll be cool to see it get serialized eventually
uhh yeah I guess I just got outed as a sofia the first fan.......lol

Some of the first doodles I did of Sofia before starting on Sofia Royal magic. I was going off of the original show to just practice her. I draw her a little differently now but these were fun

i can’t help but wonder what exactly the intended audience for sofia the first royal magic will be. everyone in the original shows age demographic while airing is a teenager or adult now. and while a lot of fans are far from the age demographic, the new show definitely won’t be aimed at us.
i just wonder how well it’s going to do as a stand alone show, as many kids will end up watching it separate from the original series simply because it’s new. then again, it’s probably different now that we’re in the age of streaming, but i don’t see parents putting on the original 4 seasons just so their preschooler gets the lore for its spin-off. i have a nephew who’s in the age demographic, and his mom will just put on whatever’s on for kids the front page of a streaming service for him usually. if that’s the attitude for most parents, the show could come off pretty confusing and not super engaging to kids. and while it COULD be filled with exposition of the past 4 seasons, i fear that could get grating pretty quickly if not done correctly.
i’m sure the people working on the show have thought about the logistics, and i am absolutely thrilled for its release next year, i just kind of worry how well it will go over i guess. then again, sofia the first was a massive hit, so fingers crossed royal magic will bring in new and old fans to watch!

If "out with the old, in with the new" isn't the name of one of the episodes and it isn't about new magic and old magic, I will be sad.

Hiiiiii~ It has been a while! 💜 I have been super duper busy with personal projects and just not really feeling like working on anything else other than those (which is a good thing, actually!) but this idea came to mind and I really wanted to draw it!
I noticed recently how there are many Disney characters who have the ability to contact the Disney Princesses, so I thought it would be fun to draw a few of them together showing off their respective items that help them to see the princesses!
From left to right we have Lily (Disney Princess Royal Adventure), Sofia (Sofia The First) and Isabelle (Disney Enchanted Journey). I decided to call the girl on the right Isabelle since she doesn't actually have a canon name, and to my knowledge her voice actor is Isabelle Fuhrman so... why not just go with that!
I was originally going to draw Kilala (Kilala Princess) instead of Isabelle, but I decided I would much rather draw characters from things that I have a personal connection to. Sorry Kilala fans! If I ever decide to make a sequel to this art then I will draw her there because believe it or not there are even more Disney characters that are able to meet with the Disney princesses other than just these 3!
Anyways... I got to draw cute girlies with sparkles and pink everywhere, so that was lots of fun! ✨💜(´▽`)
✨Please do not re-post or use my work in any way without my permission! Re-blogging is ok. Reblogging helps me out! :D!✨
