Au where Butch and Sonia get married and now Henry and Eddie gotta be step siblings, and they both suffer greatly because of it.
You might think Butch and Sonia would be terrible for each other, and have nothing in common, but you'd be wrong. They are actually weirdly into each other for various reasons. Butch likes a woman who will baby him and take care of him like a mom (he's traditional in the worst way). While Sonia likes a big scary police officer as her hubby cause it means he can constantly protect Eddie when he's out and about. He day drinks, she binge eats, and they both never get off the couch or stop watching tv. The only real conflict of interest between them is parenting styles, but Butch doesn't really care to discipline a kid that isn't his and Sonia doesn't give a shit about Butch abusing Henry unless he starts doing to to Eddie.
Henry and Eddie were very angry when they found out who their parents were dating, but Henry's dad doesn't give a shit what Henry thinks and Eddie's mom insists butch will be good for Eddie. Now that Henry and Eddie live together their dynamic is very Rodrick and Greg Heffley. You'd also probably assume Henry would abuse Eddie alot now that they live together but aside from typical older brother bullshit Henry leaves him alone. He prefers to bully him outside the house, mostly because, and he would never ever admit this, he's a little terrified of Sonia (she's a fucking massive 40 year old woman, and even if he did fight back Butch would beat Henry for it later).
Speaking of beatings, Henry notes that it's odd how Butch doesn't beat Sonia like he beat his mother. It appears Butch seems aware that with Sonia he's got a good thing going, and she's also bigger than him so she could probably kick his ass if he wanted, so he doesn't hit her. On the other hand, Eddie notes that the way she coddles butch is disturbingly similar to how she coddles him, but he's DEFINETLY not gonna unpack the implications of that shit.
Henry would never admit it, but a teeny tiny part of him is kinda bummed that Sonia doesn't care about him. Maybe it was a pipe dream, but for a hot minute he considers it might be nice to have a mother. Unfortunately, if you thought Sonia was a bad mother, just wait till you see her as a step mother. Even though Henry is an abuser himself, if this was cinderella he would not doubt be the one cooking and cleaning all day. At the wedding Sonia purpofully ignores him and leaves him out of all the pictures.
Eddie and Henry have not acclimated to living together very well, Eddie particularly hates when Sonia INSISTS Eddie calls Henry his brother. Because of that he'll sometimes go in Henry's room and be like "MY mother says dinner is ready, and she asks me to come get you because you're NOT my brother.". The fact they have to share a bathroom now only makes it worse, because Henry is unsurprisingly gross as fuck. His rooms a pigstye too, and his mom forces Eddie to help Henry clean it from time to time.
That's the only chore Sonia will ever let Eddie do, Butch has tried to force Eddie to help on the farm but Sonia hates it so he just lets him get away with not working. Henry finds that super unfair, but any complaints about this makes his dad threaten him so he keeps quiet until he can pummel Eddie for it later. Family dinners are super awkward, because Henry and Eddie don't really wanna talk to each other even on good days. That's fine for their parents because they constantly are so wrapped up in whatever gross flirting they're doing at the table to notice their sons silence or vehemnt digust with them. And don't even get me started on how awkward it is when they invite their friends over.
At the end of the day though, despite how much Henry and Eddie loathe each other for many valid and not so valid reasons, and their resistance to ever accept each other as family, there are a few... odd moments here and there. Fleeting moments where their parents are acting crazy, and they lock eyes, and there is a quick flash of understanding, and possibly even a bit of sympathy.

hey don't cry. have not one but two repressed queer characters named eddie who have the same actress portray different women in their life to represent being stuck in cycles due to trauma and/or guilt.

I'm in the BIT Club (IT Book Club)
Each week we read a certain amount of the book and I have thoughts and feelings about IT *Ba Dum Tss*
Warning: There are Spoilers
Week 1
Ch. 1
I really liked being in Georgie’s perspective, and the whole time he’s describing the basement I kept hearing the Jaws *dun dun* because of future events and just having the knowledge I have from the Miniseries, Movies (and Musical), like, dude, you have no idea how right you are! And that turtle wax made me go, “omg, does Stephen King even realize what he did there?!” and it’s like “yeah, ya goof.”
Georgie and Bill’s relationship was so siblings. People don’t always write siblings being assholes to each other while also showing that they care about each other. I think the butthole jokes weirdly show that off the best, and Georgie is so cute about Bill saying “shitty butthole” — very little kid of him.   Also, when Georgie kisses Bill on the cheek and Bill tells Georgie to be careful before leaving, I never thought it was weird while watching the other media, so when it was pointed out how unusual it was it got me thinking about why did they do it that time? Was it the turtle or was it just one of those moments that really stands out to you because it was the last time you saw that person and it ended in tragedy or was it something else completely?
Something that really surprised me was that an adult “saw” what happened and actually went to go check on Georgie. Any other time I’ve seen this scene it almost always cuts away right after Georgie is attacked so I had no idea. Plus adults suck, so anytime they aren't it’s always wild to me.
Ch. 2
This chapter is so brutal, obviously. But like, fuck, dude. What adds to the harshness of it all is like this shit has happened and can still happen. My heart felt so disgusted by what those homophobic pricks were doing. And the hopelessness of Don crying out for anyone to help, and running back to Adrian and not being able to anything was so sad and sickening.
And with Pennywise showing up to finish off Adrian I find myself thinking, not at the time but looking back on it, Pennywise is not as bad as those jackwagons. Is that weird to think? I mean, Pennywise is a murder-crazed space clown god thing, what are those scum sucking fuckwads excuses?
Something I found interesting is how kinda neutral the cops were? ACAB and all that, but I thought they were gonna be evil and that’s that. But no. Sure they aren’t supportive of the gays but they didn’t go out of their way to fuck with them, and one stopped the first altercation and told the warthog sniffers to fuck off. Again ACAB and at the end of the day they are, but I was kinda thrown for a loop when they weren’t vile creatures.
On a happier note; the Elmer Curtie part was really funny. Man has a successful gay bar in a small, homophobic town and it takes him 4yrs, give or take, to realize it. Amazing! And when he figures it out he’s like, “Most of my patrons are polite, I never have to pay for damages because girls aren't an issue, and I’m making money?? I see only positives!” Also, it’s totally canon that he ships Don and Adrian.
Ch. 3
This was a hefty chapter, and my favorite out of the 3 for this week. For a chapter as a whole; I liked the back and forth of who was narrating for each Loser’s parts (other person, that loser, other person, that loser, other person, that loser), and a thought I’m sure no one has had before; IT should really be a TV Series. Chapter 1 and 2 could easily be their own episode, and each of the Losers’ sections could be their own episode too!
Stan- Okay, starting off strong and sad. Really surprised that Stan is first, and we’re in Patty’s head. I learned way more about Patty than I ever did with the Miniseries and Movies combined. I mean in total her screen is like what? Over 5mins?
The people need to know that puzzles are Patty’s thing! I repeat, girl has hobbies away from Staniel!!
That part about her not being allowed in that high society club dance, describing her beautiful dress that made her look like a mermaid, the sound that her heels made on the gravel when walking back to the car, the laughing she hears and how that will affect her even years from now, that shit is crushing. And her and Stan's relationship is so nice and sweet. She doesn’t always get him, but she loves him so much, and they’re each other's person. He’s gentle with her for their first time. I made an audible “awww” when Patty said, “Don’t hurt me, dear.” and he said, “I will never hurt you.” Then the moment got ruined with remembering what’s gonna happen, but I digress.
So when Patty goes to check on Stan, again, it’s way longer. The one thing that really stood out to me is that she notices all the unusual things Stan is doing, things that he never really does but it’s nothing that she feels like she needs to bring up with him. And then it’s too late, and those out of place things are just playing over and over again in her head. It got me thinking about Georgie's chapter. The kiss and the concerned warning that the brothers do for the last time they would ever see each other. And how it stands out to them but they say nothing about it, and thoughts of these mistakes and what they should have done will stay with (sadly only) Bill forever. And now with Patty. Fuck.
Two things I can now confidently say now about Stan is he’s autistic and the man fucks!
This is such a little piece and I haven’t read the whole book so technically the whole picture isn’t there, but Stan is autistic. The way he talks and interacts with people, he’s logical and doesn’t feel the need to explain himself. ‘Cause why would he? He’s right. Speaking as a person that also falls on the spectrum, reading this little bit about Stan at least makes me go, “Hmmm, gonna file that for later.” Also, and I really wish this wasn’t the case, I really appreciate having Stan not come off as cold and heartless. He jokes around and clearly loves his wife. Almost like he's a person and not some broken robot. What a concept!
On a hornier note, Stan likes sex. The Miniseries understood that. It’s so great that when they leave the clinic, Stan's first words are, “I never do”, and then clarifies, “Think about procreation during.” Noice. I don’t know; I just really like knowing that the dude fucks and he likes it.
On a final note; I’m interested in finding out why he remembers more than any other losers. Like, I know but I’m curious to see how the book will explain it.
   Richie- Richie has ADD/ADHD!
From the need to play music (the louder the better) to either help him focus or distract him.
All those voices he does, him wanting to please the people he talks to, and not wanting to say or show what he’s actually feeling or thinking? That is so masking!
I know with every character there are a lot of thoughts going on in their heads, but Richie’s on a different level. Not only does he have a lot of thoughts, but he’s also talking to a lot of people, using multiple voices, and he’s quick on his feet when on the spot. Plus I know he has the gift of gab (aka never shuts the fuck up), he’s moving around a lot, and he’s keeps getting distracted with little things going on around him. His brain is all over the place.
Imma call it; Richie wasn’t bullied for his glasses (I mean he was but shush); he was bullied because he has ADD/ADHD! Kids don’t need to know what it is to spot it and hate you for it. Talking from experience as an ADD kid (or that weird annoying girl).
It’s really sad that the main memories that he remembers is the bullying, the names they called him, and getting beat up.
I’m glad he had friends that loved and cared about him.
Also, holy crap! Richie said, “You bet your fur” first!
Ben- …Okay, real talk? Ben’s part was so funny! I already brought up that the amount of times Ricky Lee’s name was so fucking funny to me here, but the waitress, the lemons, and the amount of stress Ben was giving Ricky Lee was really funny.
Of course I feel bad for Ben but to be in Ricky Lee’s POV is really something special!
Sorry, not that much to say. I guess something to add is Ben needs therapy (no duh). In this case I’m talking about his body image issues, and for what he put his body through and I bet is still doing to look “perfect.”
Eddie- I don’t think I have to bring up examples on why Sonia sucks and is a terrible mother; you saw all the words about her.
Everything that was shown about Eddie wasn’t surprising. I think reading the source really showed me the fights that he has with himself might be his biggest problem (those words come from his mother but you get it) And I really like that you can tell, even through all his fear, that Eddie is a capable person and is very brave.
Also, I was expecting Eddie to have a long list about everything he takes but, good lord, that list really did go on forever.
I don’t know how fans feel about this, considering all the fanfics I read I think I’m really in the minority, but I don’t think Myra is abusive?? At worst, I think she kinda manipulates Eddie into feeling bad and getting her way but like I don’t know, it feels like she’s fucked up like Eddie but in a different way, they both seem to be stuck in this life. Even what I said about the worst seems a bit too much. I actually feel bad for her. I’m really surprised because, again, all the fanfics I’ve read, things I’ve seen online talking about her and Sonia’s similarities, and I guess the little snippet from the second movie shaped my original opinion about her.
And can I just say, I hate how Stephen King describes fat people. He makes it seem like the biggest sin a person can have is being fat. Like, “Of course they're a bad person. Didn’t you see how big they are? I mean how could you not?! Fat people are so gross!” I just — it makes me uncomfortable. Especially ‘cause, oh I don’t know, BEN! Let’s see how that goes.
Bev- This is really brutal. Besides Bev beating the ever-loving shit out of Tom and scream-laughing like the beautiful mad lady she is when she's outside, my overall favorite part is how Tom is able to sound cruel and vile but also show just how pathetic and dumb he really is.
He really is a top tier abuser with no skills of his own, and has the mind of a whiny child. I hope his balls exploded into bloody nothings, and the wounds Bev gave him never heal and he’s unable to cover them so he never forgets what happened and his outside matches his insides. (btw scars are cool and okay but fuck this turd)
I’m glad Bev found her strength again.
Bill- I learned you can do anything if you have the unjustified confidence of a white man. I wanted to say that college Bill was being really egotistical, but what the fuck do I know? It worked out great for him.
Seriously though, I’m trying really hard not to jump the gun but I know that book adult Bill sucks and the live action adult Bills don’t. And overall Bill seems okay in his section buuuut, I don’t know; I’ll keep trying to take in the book without my prior knowledge.
I like Audra, and finding out how they met. I think it’s sweet that you wouldn’t think they would have ended up together but they really do seem to love each other. And Audra really seems to care about him. What a nice, good lady. Sure would be a shame if Bill became human trash and taints what they have.

my week seven notes!
would not disagree with anyone who says these are the darkest chapters of the book so far. in these chapters we get a ton of reminders not only of the young age of our protagonists (and antagonists) but the extent to which small town life can become insularly horrific. let’s get into it!
before we go thru the chapter itself i want to point out something i liked about the little story time moment eddie has, which is this paragraph here:
Tumblr media
i love this for a lot of a reasons, but i think it especially hits home how hard it is to change, to grow out of the ways you’ve been taught as a child. eddie sacrifices himself emotionally, never saying what he feels, caught in a loop of medicine and motherwives. towards the end of the chapter we’ll come back to this but i wanted to make the comparison easier by mentioning this idea here first.
in chapter sixteen eddie finds out that his asthma medicine is really just water— one of his mother’s ways to enforce his cooperation through health scares. i think this chapter is great for developing sonia, i think the way it shifts to her perspective is really interesting as it gives us both a look into her reasons for manipulating eddie (not that she would call it manipulation) as well as an outsider/adult’s perspective on the kids. i also like a lot of eddie’s internal monologue, and how he most of all represents the way the losers rally around bill, like in this bit here:
Tumblr media
we know from earlier chapters that eddie tends to hear his mother’s voice, a running commentary of what he should and should not do, something that lasted into his adulthood. it’s interesting to see that at odds with his great respect and hero-worship of bill, and i think this line is a great setup for the confrontation he has with his mother later.
eddie also confronts another terror in this chapter: henry bowers, who at this point is nearing his craziest. this is the first time he’s caught one of the losers alone after the rock fight, and he breaks eddie’s arm. eddie has never felt true pain like that, and ends up laughing, prompting this reaction:
Tumblr media
very similar to some of pennywise’s reactions in the face of things it doesn’t expect! pennywise felt fear when richie used his voices on it, and henry feels fear when eddie laughs despite his broken arm. the losers are taking away the power these entities have over them when they act subversively in these intense situations.
later on at the hospital we get literally one of my favorite eddie lines:
Tumblr media
she’s only eating me because she loves me, and all the while mike hanlon talks in his interludes about the love derry and pennywise have as they consume each other. but where that form of ‘eating’ goes both ways, eddie’s mother feeds on the weakness she imposes on him out of her own fear. still, i think it’s a comparison worth mentioning.
and, after sending his friends away the first time, sonia is faced with a version of eddie she’s never experienced before, and actually afraid of; his anger and cunning in this argument with her is so good and it feels deserved, like a huge win for eddie despite his being in the hospital with a broken arm. but the one thing i want to bring it back to again is sacrifice; like i mentioned before, eddie is willing to emotionally sacrifice himself for people like myra and his mother, and the conclusion of this argument is an example of that:
Tumblr media
eddie will play along, continue to use his medication despite knowing it doesn’t work as long as she lets him continue to see his friends. and as much as it feels like a win here in the moment this is probably why eddie was unable to let go eventually, and ended up with that cabinet full of medicine and a wife that could be his mother’s twin. he gave up the fight for his own wellbeing to stay with his friends.
i think chapter seventeen is the most disturbing, as it centers on one of the most interesting side characters: patrick hockstetter. i love this point of view we get of his life, and of the murder of his younger brother, i think it’s a great way to compare the daily lives of derry’s people with the thing that haunts it’s sewers. patrick is not a demon from outer space, he’s just an emotionally disturbed child, the kind that slip through cracks because they don’t draw attention to themselves. his teachers and classmates are afraid of him but unable to explain why, and because it’s the end of the 50s there’s no push for him to get psychiatric treatment. patrick believes he’s the only ‘real’ thing, and takes a sick interest in killing local animals, but the most horrifying thing he does is murder his younger brother avery. not out of malice, but out of inconvenience. avery changed things in his household, and patrick didn’t like it, so he ‘took care of the problem.’ the thing that stood out to me the most, however, was his dad’s one quick moment of suspicion:
Tumblr media
he was almost able to see it, but was unwilling to accept it or even consider what patrick had done. this is like. the Point of pennywise to me. these little moments of ignorance and denial that add up, allowing horrific things to happen without consequence.
anyways, patrick’s death is satisfyingly scary, i think it’s definitely grosser than what happened to eddie corcoran, and i liked that bev as the observer understood that pennywise was using her father’s voice when speaking to patrick, just another way to make her feel guilty and scared. and while this chapter laid on the solid horror, the ending is actually really sweet, with the losers investigating patrick’s refrigerator and reassuring bill that they’re in this together to help him.

God i fucking love Eddie and Connor having this big petty rivalry over richie, its so funny. They'll do absolutely anything and everything to humiliate the other and get closer to Richie, all while Richie is fairly clueless about their shenanigans. The ONE and ONLY thing thats off limits for them is their family, because even though Connor and Eddie hate each other they know outing some one to their homophobic mom or cousin is a fucked up thing to do. Anything else though? Totally on the table. They're very evenly matched too, when one wins the other one snaps back real quick. Connor will start talking shit because he knows Eddie can't play video games well and Eddie will clap back with the fact connor can't ride a bike. I'm amazed they haven't tried to kill each other yet.

Okay, can we unironically talk about Eddie’s mommy issues because I feel like some people seem to forget about them. Or maybe they just don’t realize he has them. These people all claim “Myra’s not abusive” or how she’s “not a stand-in for Sonia” and that she just “loves Eddie too much”. Myra doesn’t love him at all. She’s every bit as mentally and emotionally abusive as Sonia. And it’s shown in both the book and the movie
Eddie was ambivalent about proposing to her and only did so because Myra had more or less talked him into it. This shows she doesn’t care about what he wants if it doesn’t align with what she wants. Like Sonia
Myra tries to blackmail Eddie with guilt about leaving her alone. That is clearly mental and emotional abuse. Like Sonia
Myra obsesses over Eddie’s nonexistent health issues and insists that he’s sick in situations that he’s blatantly not. Like Sonia
Sonia and Myra are played by the same actress (Molly Atkinson) to reflect how deep Sonia’s lasting psychological impact on Eddie was
Whenever mentioning IT and marrying a parent-like figure, everyone talks about Bev. And, while she did do that, Eddie did so as well. Some people seem to forget that just because someone isn’t hitting you or trying to rape you doesn’t mean they aren’t abusing you. Being told what you can’t do your whole life can be just as (if not more) damaging to a child and could even last far longer than being beaten. I’m not saying what Bev (and anyone else who’s been physically abused) went through wasn’t anything. I’m just saying that she wasn’t the only Loser who was abused and people seem to forget that
