Thinking I might redesign and/or finally design a smarter base for ec-4o!Dust. Because a farm-house is funny, but doesn't make much sense anymore.
So, I think it's smarter to have an old government base as his location. It'd have good space for storage when Blue eventually comes along, a bunch of old firearms for Dust's obsession, and would be a safe and defensible location as long as Dust's Paps keeps an eye out for intruders. It makes sense for a lot of plot points too, and adds an extra symbolic layer?
Like, Dust being there, he wasn't familiar with the government so he just clears out and burns whatever is left in the "office space" so he can make it into a house. He patrols the other two or three buildings every once in a while, but for some reason he doesn't know, folks avoid the place like the plague. He lives the solitary life he wanted.
Then Blue shows up, and he lets him and Rust share the space with him, for supplies and money in turn. Society is rebuilding, and Dust is gonna need to catch up. Blue has no clue why it's intimidating for his shop to be set up in an old government lab. He's unaware of the implications, but he's such a friendly guy that customers eventually warm up to him. The scariness of the government is lessened, because the old government that destroyed the country is gone, and now there's a kind soul helping others in its place. Rebuilding trust and comradery unknowingly.
And later on when other characters interact with the space, it gets Life in a way it never had. When Ink gets his hands on it and paints murals on the walls of the workshop in vibrant colors. Saejun is my favorite, because when he moves in, the other extra workshop is transformed into a garden, a green-house. He does hydroponics and breathes life slowly but surely back into the dead dirt, flowers cracking through the concrete style. It's a bright green spot that branches out in all directions like veins. Plants grow up the sides of the office, and harmless nature-creatures reside there.
When Cross, and Error, and Night and Dream find this place, when they're repaired, it has very little life. They're afraid of the war just as the organics are. Will it happen again? Are these people tampering with our codes? But no. They get to see this place turn into a home. Shelter others. Recreate lost things from scratch. It's a paradise they never got to see in their lifetimes. It was never in their calculations.
And then when Geno and Reaper show up. Geno, a guy who'd been stripped of his whole life, forced to start and finish a war that took millions of lives. The answers he seeks are all in an old government building, a place that ruined his life. He swore he'd see things to the end, though, so he approaches it expecting the worst. And instead of government officials that somehow escaped his vengeful wrath, he finds a ragtag group of monsters and robots, who are living peacefully in the location. Some of them resent him for what he did, but others accept him with open arms. He's not sure how to react for a long time. The belief that something good prospered through the war us unthinkable.
Then Reaper. He's under the belief that tech is his enemy. He was raised to resent the robots, even before the war. The war only proved his family right. And so seeing this place, with robots living freely? It made him furious. He'd been stripped of his weapons after attempting an attack, though, so he had to bide his time. And yet, the longer he stayed, the more he heard of each robot's story. How they were manipulated, and had their very essence altered. Their bodies and functions forced to do something they never wanted to. That struck a bit closer to home. But it was Saejun and Axe that really hit hard for him. Axe was raised in a Cult. That was what he'd called it. One that made him believe things that harmed him. One that forced him to do things against his will. For everyone else this was a place of relaxation, but for Axe it was a place of healing. And Reaper realized, begrudgingly, that Axe's story felt a lot like his own. And maybe, just maybe, he might've been in the wrong.
And idk this place that once brought so much fear, a place where robots were customized for a horrible war? One that Dust barely survived, one that Blue was too young to remember, one that everyone either participated in or was forced to live through? The place that started it all heals the damage done by it. Smth smth story symbolism?
Oh, one last thing: Lust's recovery was initially meant to be in a hidden room of the farm-house, but now I'm thinking there was a scrap room in the warehouses that no one ever got to, and Lust was put in there because his model was just too impractical for the remodeling for war-machines. There's a lot in that room like him, but he's the only one with his files still in his ecto. So, his experience with this place is jarring too. Last he remembered, he was being ushered into a building with other ectos, and they were being scrapped. Now he wakes up in the same location, but none of that horror is to be seen, instead replaced with a bright workshop and even brighter eyes looking him over worriedly. He was freed from his programming constraints while Blue worked on him, so he has to learn to be an actual person, and this place he was sent to to become a pile of scraps became his first real home.

Out of the Abyss - Act 1 Part 8 - The Relentlessness of the Fairways (2/3)
With some more tempering of the prism from NANCI, a chain came out of it, shooting straight to the Nebula Marble and coiling around it. She tapped again on the prism, now having the chain slowly but surely dragging the spaceship towards the moon.
Both ABBI and SPACEBOY would have cried victory if it wasn’t for the fact they knew better. They looked at each other, nodded in agreement and took out their dagger and gun respectively. The only words spoken then were from the captain :
   - “Let’s hope there are survivors…”
Before the ship had even reached the last quarter of its way down, weeping shadows leaped from it, heading for the moon like missiles.
Our duo was ready, but against all odds, NANCI intervened.

Both ABBI and SPACEBOY were left stunned by what the shadowy crab had done for them.
   - “Woaw…” the young man managed to utter, “This was quite a daring decision to make. I guess your friend wasn’t at her first run in with them either, was she ?”
   - “I don’t know for sure but… that is likely.”
Their attention was drawn back to the ship as they heard a yell coming from it. A yell hoping for a response.
   - “HEY ! CAN SOMEONE HEAR ME ?! SOMEONE HELP US, PLEASE !!”
   - “LITTLE JACK ?” answered SPACEBOY, “IS THAT YOU ?”
The Nebula Marble was close to landing. The whitish shock of hair of a young man who seemed to be about SPACEBOY’s age presented itself at the railing of the ship. Relief washed over him as he smiled for the first time after an anxiety riddled time span that must have felt like an eternity.
   - “CAPTAIN SPACEBOY !” he exclaimed, “I knew you’d come for us ! WHAAAA-”
LITTLE JACK had lost his balance when the ship finally landed, but he quickly got back up. The chain that had triced the ship retracted back into the prism.
A crow flew to the young space sailor.
   - “Squack ! What are you waiting for, LITTLE JACK ?! Lower the ramp for the Captain to get on board !”
   - “Aye-aye, CHIEF CRUE !”
   - “No need !” said ABBI, “We’ll be here in a second !”
   - “Squa ?”
The young lady tightly held the captain with her tendril-like arm, and advised him to hold on tight to her as well. She managed to carry him as she climbed up the hull with ease and eventually jumped over the railing.
   - “... Wow.” let out JACK, astonished.
   - “Impressive.” nodded CRUE.
SPACEBOY drew closer to the other young man and the SPACE PIRATE CHIEF that was now perched on JACK’s shoulder.
Tumblr media
While less obvious with the crow, both had been affected by Black Space’s plague. But a good look around the deck showed they were among the least affected within the crew.
The young captain then asked the dreaded question :
   - “Where is father ?”
He got answered in a rather unpleasant way as a hoarse cough resonated. SPACEBOY looked behind. It had come from the bridge.
   - “Father !” he exclaimed as he ran up to the source of the sound.
And there he found PINKBEARD. The old captain was sitting on the ground, back leaning onto the helm. He was in a pitiful state. The plague had severely spread itself across his body, only leaving a few coloured spots.

disjointed fandom posting sorry but it just hit me that pwotr is like. the only rpg where a companion never once left my team
#you can guess who it was jgkdfg#but yeah i think it has to do with disapproval not being a thing in the usual sense#Daeran was there 24/7 but my team in general is very stable compared to how often i switch it up on bg3 or the dragon ages#it's like . Daeran Woljif Seelah Lann + free space that gets swapped around (but most often it's Arue)#like aside from the point when woljif isn't there for plot reasons - i think the only time seelah and lann werent there-#was at the trap for the Other?#and that was only for plot reasons again bc basically Elluin was 99% sure the situation would escalate/#he'd wind up murdering a bunch of inquisitors and. yk. don't generally want the paladin and the guy who can't stand your bf there for that#though maybe I'll change it in future because it would be spicy if they WERE there to see it... hmmm#anyway yeah it's very interesting to me how consistent it was comparatively#honorable mention to Wyll for being the only other companion from an rpg that I don't recall taking out of my team for 99% of the game#and Zevran for being there for about? 80%? Orion didn't take him into the deep roads for blight safety reasons#it's a LITTLE bit funny to think of Daeran as the one companion this happens to djkfg#similar to the Dorian Bit of the high class character forced to trudge along the dirt fdjgk but.. better#because he's deadass forced to do it dnfmgbdh#I have this one particular thought in my head about the abyss as well.#about being made to follow along the heart of Alushinyrra as essentially a glowing target?#and how that's somehow both the worst and best outcome of being in the abyss in the fist place?#i mean he says it himself retroactively about the battlebliss. there's a certain sense of safety that comes from sticking close to the kc#and that's also why Elluin Does keep him with- it's a risk either way but if we gotta bring an aasimar into the Abyss#and that aasimar just so happens to be someone he has a vested interest in keeping safe#he's much better off where he can see him at all times rather than at camp#gods something about this visual. standing right there as the person you're following walks in front of you-#provoking the 2d highest authority in the entire /realm/ - a realm that's already been hostile to you from the very second you stepped ther#yet somehow - against all sense or better judgement . you know it's going to be fine?#(yes in a sense Dae may be safer than anyone there on account of life insurance and the Other itself in a sense but still)#im shaking the bars of my enclosure etcetera#river rambles

a very small thing i hate is when people say "i will be there between this hour and this hour" because they are always inevitably going to turn up at the later time but i have to be ready for the earlier time just in case
so i end up.... sitting here.... waiting....

Both Halfdan and Rethel have times where the Curse gnaws at their minds and starts pulling them into the same headspace as they had as Husks. Sometimes it's something small like memory problems or zoning out, sometimes they find themselves partially transforming and/or growing aggressive the way they would have with most any unlucky lost soul stumbling upon them in the Chasm.
#hc; halfdan#hc; rethel#//Heightened emotions tends to hasten/worsen these effects#//There are several times where gaps in their memories leave them so stressed it ends up with them shifting back to those forms#//And it is NOT recommendable to approach them in such states#//They WILL lash out thinking they're being attacked#//Halfdan has it slightly easier than Rethel; since he's lucky to have a Vision#//Rethel was shifted back due to Abyss Order's intervention#//So it's easier for her to succumb to it#//There are times they get EXTREMELY claustrophobic; sent into a panic within a certain space or around many others#//Rethel in particular can hardly stand being in crowds for very long before she starts feeling the urge to transform#//As if to hide in that headspace and let whatever her Husk's instincts drive her to do happen#//Will not feel too much remorse once she gets back to herself. Just a 'it was either them or me; and I choose me' & compartmentalize it#//For Halfdan; that happens when he finds himself in the dark & feels trapped in it; transforms to avoid dealing with his severe fear#//And woe betide anybody who runs into him in that state; he will NOT be merciful#//Best to carefully let him ride out the feeling and--carefully--work to change the conditions of the place#//Lighting candles; opening windows--sneak around to do so; bc if he catches you while in That state-#//The best solution is to calm them down/remove them from those situations BEFORE they've transformed#//It's the safest means to help them and will prevent the next time from being worse in the process#//Halfdan constantly has a Crisis abt if this means he is truly more monster than man; with how easily he transforms back into his Husk self#//Rethel has fully embraced she no longer is human; is prolly a monster now; but would strive to do no harm
