Introducing "This Gilded Abyss" by Rebecca Thorne! It's got an underwater city! Submersibles! Art Deco art styles! Hurt/comfort! Enemies(exes) to lovers! Badass Lesbians! Horrific murder scenes and epic fighting sequences! Underwater disasters! And much much more!

I bought the book two days ago and finished it this morning. And I cannot recommend it enough. The characters are clever, witty, and bad ass. Not to mention there's a little bit of spice✨🔥🥵 for those of you looking for something a bit naughty 😉.

I honestly can't wait for the next installment in -what I understand is going to be a trilogy- the series and am now reading another one of Rebecca's books "Can't spell treason without tea" which so far I also thoroughly enjoy.

I just finished "This gilded abyss" by @rebeccathornewrites and boy did it hit me right in my 'princess and knight' fix. Kessandra - aloof, cunning, merciless and sexy as fuck - is SUCH a great princess and her interplay with Nix is frustrating in all the best ways.

Lovely setting. Militaristic with a tuch of biopunk, and plenty of lore only hinted at. I can't wait for the sequel

You've been isekai'd to the fictional world of what you last played, read or watched (whatever was the most recent option)…what was it, would you survive and what would you do in it?

Hello Anon, thank you for this sweet and interesting question. I had to think about it for a while, tbh and since the thinking things have come up. So my answer is a little longer.

So at the point when I saw this question I had just finished "This Gilded Abyss" a week earlier and couldn't really remember if I had read/watched/played anything else. Definitely not played, I do not have much time right now. xD I came to the conclusion that I had not read or watched any other fictional stuff since then, just listened to my true crime podcasts and been busy :D (I know my life is super interesting rn, isn't it?)

So, me in the world of "This Gilded Abyss" .... would not end well, that's the short answer. It's a novel (the start of a trilogie to be exact) about being trapped in a submarine while a mysterious illness breaks out. While I wouldn't get the illness, by logic of the universe (you get it if you can afford certain enhancements), I'd be one of the people being hunted by the people effected by the illness who basically turn into zombies. So I'd by hiding out as long as I can, but then the heros would need me to be brave, I'd do it and I'd die doing that, by just making a stupid mistake, I think. Something along those lines.

Since thinking about this I have watched some more Adventure Time and I can honstely say Ooo would drive me crazy :D But maybe that's my outside perspective. Maybe, as an inhabitant I'd be much more used to the wackyness. I think I'd fare quite well in Ooo actually. I could just tab into my weirdness and not be judged? I want to be, not a human. Also not a candy person. Just someone minding my own business and pick an choose which adventures to take part in? :D Wouldn't that be fun. Maybe like a time traveler, just sometimes popping in and then the people go "Oh, it's them again!"

I’m reading This Gilded Abyss by Rebecca Thorne and while the whole book has had excellent tension and angst so far things just got really intense.

Characters:

• Seargent Nix Marr, lost her best friend Quian during an underwater mining accident, blames Subarch Kessandra, her ex-girlfriend, for his death.

• Subarch Kessandra, a member of the royal family, and also a soldier, ex-girlfriend of Seargent Nix Marr

Situation:

Kessandra is on a mission to travel to the mines again despite swearing to never go back, and has asked Nix to go with her because of a serious threat to their home of Valkeshia and its citizens. Their city basically runs on a substance they get from the mines called ichoron. It has become part of daily life: decorations, weapons, medicine, medical enhancements (like Kessandra’s ichoron eye). And Kessandra believes it’s killing people through an illness called dethalos that drives the ill person to commit horrid murders before eventually dying violently. These such murders have occurred on the submarine they, along with soldiers, and many guests, have taken to Fall (close to where the mines are). Someone onboard has dethalos, and they need to find out who.

Kessandra thinks it’s only a matter of time before she comes down with it, and she tells Nix what her real job is. She’s not just Kessandra’s bodyguard on this mission (though the primarch really is trying to kill her and tried to do so with the tunnel collapse that killed Nix’s best friend Quian), she’s supposed to kill her if she comes down with dethalos. Kessandra asked this of Nix specifically because given their past she believes Nix is the only one who would actually kill her, and would do so at the right time. She believes Nix wants to kill her, and Nix had thought she wanted to as well.

In a matter of minutes, the full extent of his plot will unfold and it'll all look like a tragic accident while the master behind the strings remains in plain view. A treasure to obtain, the cure to his itch for a delightful slaughter burned beneath the composure of meticulous fingertips, laying the proverbial dominoes up to be knocked down at his own behest when the moment arrived to the slow ticking of the clock.
