Trans youth are under unimaginable amounts of attack from the adults who should be loving and accepting them for who they are. If you’re one of those kids, it’s not your fault and you don’t deserve to be misgendered or dismissed.

Things are always pretty purple at Mombian, but I’m feeling extra purple today for #SpiritDay, GLAAD’s annual event to show support for LGBTQ youth and speak out against bullying—which to my mind includes both personal bullying and the sweeping bullying of anti-LGBTQ laws and rhetoric.

Day Nineteen
It's Spirit Day! I loved to see how many students and staff were wearing school gear, or otherwise dressed in our school colors. I got many compliments on my own look, particularly my hair ribbons and glittery nails. I like dressing up for all the themed days, but especially this one. School pride!
Since I am a wizard and I've been doing this for a while, I made sure my students would be in the middle of multi-day assignments today. In Global Studies, they're researching and citing some information, finding and citing some relevant images, putting it all on Slides, and creating a polished little presentation. In GOV, students are reading Federalist 10 and 51 and drafting questions for a Socratic discussion. The due date for both these assignments is Tuesday.
That meant I had no grading on planning to do today, and the students who were absent because they hate pep rallies or dismissed from class to get ready for said pep rally (students in band/student council/dance team/choir) didn't really miss much.
It all went well, and the pep rally was great fun. There was a bit of unsportsmanlike conduct by one class, at one point, but overall? So good. Student Council did an awesome job planning the games, and our band and drum line sounded fantastic!
Big Homecoming games this weekend, of course, followed by a dance. I'm not chaperoning this time, though, because I'm running a half marathon on Sunday. Wish me luck!
